I heard there was just one comic but with different covers. Is that wrong? I'm hearing mention of three comics.

There were three Serenity comics in the miniseries, each with three different covers (so all our BDHs got their time in the spotlight).

The first issue had Mal, Jayne, and Inara covers.

The second issue had Book, Kaylee, and Zoe covers.

The third issue had River, Simon, and Wash covers.

The comics sold well and may be hard to find (I've yet to get #3 and I expect I won't find it locally). But, there will be a collection--or trade paperback--of all three, comingg out I think Jan 06.

Ok... well, I'm not too big on comics anyway. It is my understanding, though, that it tells things that happened in the gap between the show and the movie. If this is true, can someone please give me a synopsis of what I missed in the comics?

Eh - we see why the Hands of Blue men were taken off the Job and why the Operative was put on.

Someone we thought was dead isn't quite so much.

We say goodbye to two of our crew who we are to meet again during the second Act of the movie.

That's as spoiler free as I can put it.

The three issues should still be available - issue 1 sold out but there has been a second printing.

Have a look, worth $10 (If you only buy one of each).

Book and Inara leave the ship.

Just my two cents but I have a hunch since you've seen the movie (and I haven't, just to let you know) the events of the comics are either not that important to the movie or are reiterated in the movie.

Maybe someone out there who as read the comics and seen the movie can correct me--without spoiling the movie, of course.

But the things you mentioned in your spoiler section are the kinds of thing I'm thinking are also established in the movie.

If you have seen the movie you know if I'm right. If you haven't seen the movie, then you know as much as I do.

For those on this thread have seen the movie, please be aware there's at least one person here who hasn't.

Those were the two questions I had after seeing the advance screening, which were not addressed in the film, but which were answered by the comic spoiler. I had no answers to them before now.

But don't tell me what it is.

I guess this makes the comics canon. Has Joss made that clear?

The comics will be reprinted in a Serenity graphic novel that will be released in February (if I remember correctly). It will probably cost about $10 at the most, which is not bad considering it has all 3 issues.
But you won't be able to read it before the movie - thats the only problem

My understanding is yes the comics are considered canon.

Two other bits:

The graphic novel will sell for $12.95 (that's the list at Dark Horse.)

And this note, also at the Dark Horse site:
• Look for the Serenity DVD release in spring 2006!

Oops, I assumed people would get that my comment was a tad tongue-in-cheek. But on a serious note, how expensive are the comics over there? I assumed they were $2.99 each.
