I was wondering if there would be enough interest in a SE get together. I live in Jacksonville Beach, Florida and would be happy to host my fellow browncoats (if there is by chance any Blue Sun wannabes, I have a crate similar to the one Safron rode in that you will have to sit in for the viewing). Not in the least trying to brag, just trying to entice by stating Firefly is nice on a 65 inch HDTV with progressive-scan and Bose surround sound. Of course anyone further away is welcome as well but figured I would try local interest first.

Well it would be a Shindig as well as a viewing party, just so we could get to know each other face to face and the like. I understand the lengthy drive, and dont fault you a bit.

You may also want to see if you could get something hooked up with the upcoming con in Jax, Dreamcon. Who knows, maybe you could even find someone who games regularly with the con-founder and his family. Don't know who that might be....

As a quick update it looks like a very good chance of a Firefly convention taking place with Dreamcon, up here in Jacksonville during June 2004. I will post more in a sepoerate thread as i get more information to you.

Tampa Bay, FL here. I've driven the Jax route before, it's not too bad. Might be willing to put together a convoy to head up that way. Got us a few browncoats in the neighborhood, and we normally get something o' the like together for the drive up to DragonCon in Atlanta every year.

I just found this site and would be really interested in meeting others in the Jax area who think this show is the best gorram show in the 'verse.

Well here is the plan. We will be having an all day Shindig on Saturday January 31st starting at 10 am. It will take place at my home in Jacksoville Beach, Florida. There will be of course the DVD's being shown on the aformentioned video setup, Firefly T-Shirt making (bring your own solid color plain Tshirt, donations for ink and tranfers are accepted but not required), and general fun in getting to meet the rest of the community members. Later in the evening I will be taking everyone out to Chili's on me. As far as food , snacks , and drinks during the day, there will be some provided but you may want to bring some along with you. There is limited space of up to 14 people so its first come, first serve. I have had a number of emails already with confirmed people, just email me at killianf@bellsouth.net , and I will email directions to my place.

Well, I got back last night from the shindig, and what a mighty fine shindig it was. Hats off to Serenity's Son for opening up his home to us and his gracious hospitality. We made some shiny T-Shirts, watched some Firefly and had a blast. If anyone gets the chance to attend one of these things, I highly recommend it.

No power in the 'verse can stop me.

I was glad I was able to get us all together Astriana, Hirostone, Adeptus, Spectre, Karla, Amanda, and Aleta. Unfortunately due to Superbowl, our Atlanta contigent was unable to make it as well as a few other last minute cancelations but still, we had a blast. I hope to do this again real soon. It was great to meet you all. Please stay in touch.

I'd like to introduce myself - I'm also in the Tampa Bay, FL area and am an avid fan myself. Could you give me more information regarding the local Browncoats and their get-togethers? I have the Firefly DVD set, and am interested in attending a shindig or other get-together with others who have the same condition!

Did you go to the Orlando Premiere shindig?

There's a group of us old-timers that got together every month for a year to set that up. Pretty much, that's why we did it! A good excuse to get together with our Firefly friends.

We usually refer to ourselves as THE FL Browncoats but I know we don't want to be excluding anybody.

We set up the following website for the Premiere shindig but I have a feeling we'll be turning it into a regional fan site.

I wish I had gone to the premiere shindig, but I didn't know about it. Sometimes I forget just how handy this big damn internet thing can be. I'll check out that site and hopefully can be a part of future shindigs.

I wanted to go to that premire...but didn't b/c of my friends who were tagging with us to the movie. Also, i would've not been able to bring 3 people who knew nothing about the show.

Hey folks, sorry it has taken me so long to get back to this post but, I am the person who started this thread so long ago, and held the Shindig. We are thinking of having one again when the DVD release happens for SERENITY. It will most likely happen on this side of the world Jacksonville but, we may wind up coordinating one or two for those further out since Tampa (4 hours away) and South Florida (3 to 4 hours away) are a little far for people to drive.
