Hi, I saw this news headline on Yahoo and thought it was worth sharing.

Anthony Stewart Head [Giles] and the creator of "Buffy," Joss Whedon, are still talking about doing a TV movie called "Ripper." It would focus on Giles' darker side.

I would love to see this movie made. Hopefully not in the cartoon mode they were originally discussing. I'd love to see Giles being a bad ass (like he isn't one already).

A "Ripper" cartoon? I think you got confused.

I thought they were going to make a Buffy cartoon, but the green light turned red.

I can't find the article right now, but Joss and Co. put some stuff together(scripts, artwork, etc.), but they ended up not being able to sell the animated show to a network. for whatever reasons.

Here's the thread I was thinking of:

Saw a webpage awhile ago with art samples from the cartoon plans. It was being drawn by the same artist that did the characters for Batman Beyond, with a similar style.

I'd like to see this movie because I missed the series. I intentionally didn't watch it because Giles doesn't interest me, but by the time I found out Max Perlich (Whistler) was in it, it was all ready over. Whistler is in it, isn't he? He's my all time favorite character out of BtVS and Angel, so I hope it works out.

This thread IS a bit confusing. I know they were talking about doing a series, but I thought it hadn't happened. I would LOVE to see a movie and/or a series for "Ripper", mainly because I LOVE ASH (Anthony Stuart Head). He was, imo, a VERY (and surprisingly) hot "Dr. Frakenfurter" in the London Production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show (he has a really wonderful voice too). LOVE Whistler too...

A similar article was released today:
'Buffy' Star Likes Being Called 'Giles'

He and "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon hope to make a TV movie in coming years called "Ripper," which would focus on Head's frequently bemused character's darker side.

Although the idea could become a TV series, he said, neither he nor Whedon want the character to get mired in a monster-of-the-week format.

"He said he's more interested in the character of Giles and what happens to him alone, his solitude," Head said.

Really? Are you sure it didn't become a series? I heard it had. There's Yahoo clubs for it and it's on the internet movie database. I don't know, I thought it was a miniseries or something. Maybe it only played in the UK. THat was my impression. I don't know.

I search for Ripper on tvtome.com.

http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-4548/

Welcome to the Ripper guide at TV Tome.
This spin-off series from Buffy the Vampire Slayer will follow Rupert Giles, formerly Buffy Summers' Watcher, as he returns to his native England to find a course for his life in working with the Watchers Council in their quests to protect the world from evil. The show was scheduled to have a September 2002 premiere, and then a July 2003 premiere. These dates were false, however and production of the show hasn't even started yet. Joss Whedon assures us though that Ripper is not cancelled, but it's the farthest project from his mind at the moment. The most we know about his style for the show is that it will roughly have six episodes per season and the show might premiere with a two hour TV Movie. All of this has yet to be written in stone though.
