The "Trash" ep that made it to Kazaa is now available for download from my server. 
RULES FOR DOWNLOADING PLEASE READ!!!

6 users max / 1 login per IP address allowed
17Kb/sec max upload per user
idle time-out 5 min (sit idle on the connection this long and you'll get auto booted)
session time-out 12 hours (if you've been connected to the server this long you'll get auto booted, even if you're actively xferring data)
PASV xfers and RESUME are supported
DO NOT HAMMER THE SERVER!! You know the server is going to be very busy...be patient! The server will auto ban you for 24 hours if you attempt to connect more than once every minute. Check the settings in your FTP client to make sure it will comply with this requirement!!

well that didn't take long...
already the server has auto banned two people:
one with an ip address ending in 177.241
one with an ip address ending in 16.207
and i'll bet it's because their ftp clients tried to open up 2 connections to the server at the same time, then kept on trying over and over after the 2nd connection was denied until they got banned.

I don't understand computers at all so could you make this a little "incomputent" friendly.
Let's start with: What's an ftp client? How do I get one? What do i do?

Whee, let's see if the Poptart/Satyrgirl can help.
An FTP client is a "File Transfer Protocol" program. (Is that not correct? I believe so...) You can download them at downloads.com. I suggest using a trial version of GlobalScape's CuteFTP. It's the easiest.
And FTP directly connects your computer to someone elses using the information given by Trs80. CuteFTP will be very helpful in showing you where to plug this info in.
If you have a firewall (and you very well might), you need to go to 'edit' 'settings' 'connection' 'firewall' and then click the little box next to 'PASV'. This will keep your connection from screwing up.
You should then go to 'connection' and set 'retry delay' to at least 90 seconds. You'd get booted for hammering from the server, otherwise. Hammering is when you try to connect too many times in a row too often when you're not allowed on a server.
Once this is all done, you can go back to the connection manager window and click 'connect' on TRS80's server. You'll have three windows to look at.
On your left is your computer's folders. Open the one where you want to download to. On your right is TRS80's stuff. Double click the file. It will begin transfer.

I've set it to wait 90 seconds between retries but now need to know if someone knows how I can find out what MY IP address is. I want to know if I managed to accidentally ban myself while stumbling my clumsy ass feet around.

I feel blessed with the good fotune of this awesome community. I download as I write. I didn't know ftp from a whole in the ground 20 minutes ago but I learn quick. the internet is quite a tool. thanks trs80!!

It should tell you in the little message that TRS80's server gives you whether you're banned or not. Something like "You've been banned!"
Unless you hammered for a while, I doubt it banned you. If you can't connect, odds are good too many peeps are already on. CuteFTP sets the standard retry at 60 seconds, so you didn't really hammer at all if you tried connecting before setting your retry to 90. I've just found 90 to be more acceptable all over the board, which is why I told you to put it at 90.
It'll keep you safe if you decide to foray deeper into FTP territory. :]
But, about the IP, just do a search on the internet for "what's my ip address?" and it should give you a site that'll tell you. There are TONS of those. Try Google.

Kazaa should be a lot better to get it from in a day or two if you can't get it elsewhere(like his wonderful ftp!)
Once more people get it on kazaa it'll be easier to find and faster to get, I've got 3 people getting it from me right now(albiet at 2 KB/sec each :( )

If so, and you get "control connection closed" it means you're getting cut off, I believe. Doesn't necessarily mean you're being banned, but I'm not sure how to deal with it. I've never had it before.

Oh, likely just means there are too many users on. I don't think you can manually enter filenames to the transfer que, or you might be able to setup the program to continue trying to connect until you can, and then have it auto download for you.
But, barring that option, you'll just have to try back later. My file transfer should be done around 6:30 AM, EST. Could try back then.

For people with it on Kazaa. There's a program called sig2dat ( http://www.fasttrackmovies.com/sig2dat_install.asp), [see the function "signature calculation] which allows you to build a link to the file, so people don't have to search for it. Users paste the link into their own copy of sig2dat, and then Kazaa picks up the download. If anyone could do this, I'd appreciate it.

As for whether you're banned on my server...if your connection is immediately closed and you never see this:

First, wanna say thanks to Pollaxt (if he/she reads this board) and and a huge thanks to TRS80 for the actual download. I've got it up on Kazaa(lite) now. I will warn whoever tries to download it from me: My ISP gives me a really, really crappy upload speed of 128Kb/sec which if my math works out right would make it a 5-6 hour download minimum. My Kazaa(lite) is DarinPo. If it won't come up by looking for Firefly - 1x13 - Trash then try looking up the Gag Reel and finding my user name and select the option to search for more files from the same user. Now, I'm gonna try and post the sig2dat thing...hopefully it'll work.

Hmm, is this board incapable of taking the sig2dat data and turning into a valid link? I even found a "Sig2Dat for Dummies" type website and it looks like I did everything right. Oh well.

I'm trying it now. It sort of seems to work. What you posted isn't quite right. I took the second part, and prepended "file:" in front, like this:
File:Firefly - 1x13 - Trash.avi

You then half to shut down Kazaa and restart, and the download should show up in the traffic window.
The download window says "more sources needed" though, so clearly it can't find you.

What are you trying to do exactly? When you generate a signature. You can click url style, then you copy to clipboard and past that into the message. You can then post the link into internet explorer. HOWEVER, you still need sig2dat to decode it.
It seems like you've generated the signature okay. I don't know enough about how Kazaa works to figure out why it won't pick up the file.

oh my gods the joy! I watched the teaser also and now I can't get the big grin off my face! I was lucky enough to have someone directly transfer it to me through Windows Messenger. I can't find it on Kazaa, and I've had it shared for several hours but no one is downloading it from me.

I just searched Kazaa for the hell of it and found it. I've got mine up on Kazaa too.
If you can't find it under "Firefly - 13 - trash", search under "firefly interviews" and then if you see me (abbynormal) you can click "find more from this user" and you'll find trash with all my other stuff.

Since I have a Mac (no Kazaa) and this really crappy FTP program that doesn't have a retry feature, can someone please host it on Direct Connect? One of the primary Asgard hubs would be the easiest to find it on.

It was originally put online by a guy with the user name of Pollaxt. If I'm not mistaken he won an Ebay auction for the unaired eps. He said he'll try and get "The Message" up before he leaves for the Bahamas (whenever that may be). So hopefully we'll have another new one to watch soon enough. Edit: And "Dead or Alive" was never filmed. It was scrapped before production and elements of the script were used in other episodes.

Hi,
Yeah you're seeing that because the server is offline now. Now that it's the work week I can't be using up all the server's bandwidth for a non work related thing.
Sorry all, but that will be it until next weekend when it's possible other eps might make an appearance
FYI - in the time the server was up 435 people downloaded it. At 233MB per copy that amounted to 101355 MB which roughly means 101 GB!!!!

Yeah you're seeing that because the server is offline now. Now that it's the work week I can't be using up all the server's bandwidth for a non work related thing.
Sorry all, but that will be it until next weekend when it's possible other eps might make an appearance
FYI - in the time the server was up 435 people downloaded it. At 233MB per copy that amounted to 101355 MB which roughly means 101 GB!!!!

Just de-lurking to thank TRS80 and Javidrho for posting the ftp and http download links, very shiny. I have dsl at work but the firewall keeps me from being able to share so most of the time p2p users will disconnect me cause I'm not sharing. At home the trusty 56k is painfully slow but I can get eps through WinMX (if I have a few days) and share as well. I was able to get it from the link posted by Javidro, many thanks!

I downloaded it through BitTorrent. It was fast - only 20 minutes. I have never used Kazaa or BitTorrent, but it was easy. Now I've got it on Limewire (I hope)

Help? I am definitely looking to download "Trash". I am a mac user, so have no way of using Kazaa, unfortunately. I tried a few FTP applications and couldn't get anything to work. I then tried to use BitTorrent, but I keep getting an error that reads "Problem getting response info - [Errno ftp error] (60, 'Operation timed out'). I should probably just give up and wait until the DVD comes out, but I just don't want to. Any mac users out there? Help?

shiny! and thanks a million to LJC for the new site. I've been trying to ftp or find it on Kazaa for two days with no luck. Versaphile kept getting me an incomplete file, anyone else have that problem? The download from LJC only took me 7 minutes. of course, they crawled by like 7 hours anyway.

Hi everyone ! I'm also a Mac user, anyone with the time and inclination to also instruct me on how to download "Trash" ? I"ve never tried "peer-to-peer" downloads before and haven't a clue as to how it works. I tried the link to "versaphile", clicked on "trash" and could hear it, but couldn't see anything !

The file on the versaphile site played fine for me. Don't know much about Mac's but you'll need the divx codex installed on your machine to view the Trash avi file. You can get it at:
For PC
http://www.divx.com/divx/
For Mac
http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Download the free version (one on the right) and after you download it run the .exe and choose to install the codex (not the player). Then try and view the .avi again. Hope that helped.

Thank you. However, I can't download the avi file. I have divX though. I can't find a way to download the avi file. What should I use for it? Nothing I have tried works (see my previous post for more info if needed). Thanks again!

I have a fairly basic laptop with windows xp, dial up msn, and no second line. I do have a real player and quick time, but have never used kassa or any other programs mentioned here. Any advice? Ive never been too good with the FTP thing and i never did get a connection to the site... and i dont like kazza much myself if you ask me your best call is to just download it from

You might want to download a download manager before downloading Trash. It might take many hours or even days on dial-up to download Trash and you can save yourself a lot of headaches if you have software that will keep up with the download instead of just ending it if something goes wrong.

Hiya! Thought I would try this one more time. Does anyone here use a mac and, if so, can someone recommend software to me to use to download the trash.avi file? I don't want to view it in my network browser because that doesn't save the file and the quality is really bad. I have DivX but I still can't find a way to download the file. Please help? I have a Mac, I downloaded the episode using the BitTorrent link that someone provided.
I first had to do a Google search for BitTorrent, then download it, then I went to the site and downloaded Trash using BitTorrent.
After that, I had to download some plugins for QuickTime to be able to run it (I think it was DiVX).
Since then I discovered the link to the Hello Cowgirl site where you can just download it straight from the page. Its quick and easy.

The only ones I couldn't save from this site were the blooper reels.

If you're using OS-X, open the terminal application and type:
curl -o ~/Desktop/Trash.avi http://www.loony-archivist.com/temp/firefly/trash2/trash.avi.
Or whatever URL you want.
Option-clicking in Safari or Camino, if you use those browsers, will also directly download the link.

Well, you can download it with your browser (just go to http://www.loony-archivist.com/firefly/trash.htm and right-click/hold-click on the link and choose "Save As") and then all you need to view it is Quicktime. At least, on my iMac, I played ti just fine with the latest version of Quicktime.

p.s. to non mac users: Most mac users don't have a right-click button. For us a right-click is VERY similar to a control click.
Thanks again everyone! By the way - my husband told me he saw a UPS ad where a woman was holding a box that said "Firefly" right on it in the ad (something about a script?)
