Howdy,

So I know there are a ton of UK Browncoats because Serenity reached number 1 here in our box offices but so far I have seen little evidence of said masses. I know there is the browncoat webpage for us UK fans, but doesn't seem like much ever happens. This could be my complete ignorance of events or the fact that I am up in Scotland and am slightly removed from the goings on down in England. So yeah. Just wanted to see if there are others of you out there!

They mostly come out at night. Mostly.

Erm, wait a minute no, they're probably out in the day time. Well I am. Most of the day and occasionally some of the night as well.

In any case, I'm a fan, British, two legs and everything. From Hull (Or 'Ull as is known roundabouts) though I'm currently at Uni in Lincoln. Don't much hear about any events and probably wouldn't go if I did. Not that I'm unsociable; the things just don't appeal :(

I've converted a few people into fans but I'm yet to meet a fellow fan if you know what I mean.

Huh, nifty map! More than I thought.

I know what iccledames means though. i too have converted people but have as of yet met an actual fan! Crazy. Ah yes that nifty convention this weekend. Heard about it so very late, like yesterday and regretably am unable to attend. Sounds a blast though. So to everyone who goes...have fun!

Yup! I iz here way down in the south. Not alone either - I've converted two very close friends, one in London and one in Brussels, the latter being utterly distgusted at the news that Serenity is not going to be released in the cinemas out there. I also recently converted my dad, and another married couple, who knew nothing about Firefly, Angel, Buffy or one Mr Joss Whedon!!?

Currently trying to convert my girlfriend, her brother and his girlfriend...

So there will be more of us :) in time.

Hi Shiny, I used to live in Southampton. I'm in Cheltenham now.

I think there are a lot of quiet flans. I know because I only discovered that one of my colleagues was on the day after I bought tickets for a group of fans for the Birmingham preview. By then they had sold out of course so he had to wait for October.

Proper respect? Having seen 28 days later and Alan MOORE's book V for Vendetta, not to mention 1984, I didn't think the UK needed more respect. Anyone who has a mind thinks that offering proper respect to the UK goes without saying.

Now, I have no problem with preaching. I feel like spreading the good word on every rooftop I find.

But converting people is not my mission. Some will not be ready for it, and that's ok.

Tried to convert a couple of Jayne types here in Montréal, and it didn't work. But they're free to ignore it all, I guess.

On another note, I read recently this thought: The bigger the groupe, the smaller the ideal. So large groupes of Firefly fans are not necessary.

I tend to stay... independent.

And a big Hello and a big smile to all you friends accross the pond!

Come to work today and have talked 2 people into going and getting the series

Nice to see that there is a large community directing there attentions at making FireFly get the attention it deserves.

greetings to you all from city 17 (aka Edinburgh). well - i guess there are obviously plenty of 'us' out there. in fact, i probably walked past at least one fine upstanding 'browncoat' this very afternoon. i'm pretty much brand spanking to all this message board mallarkey, but i think i may have to start another thread'about the whole 'browncoat' terminology. maybe it's just me (and it usually is) - but I just can't help bringing to mind images of some disturbing coprophiliac 'dirty protest' each time i hear it. (and don't even get me started on that whole 'shiny' thing...)

I do indeed exist... I live in Manchester (most of the time)... and i'm damned obsessive about the firefly 'verse.
I know what you mean about our lack of presence online. Considering that some of the most prolific fanfic posters are from Europe I would have expected more to be from the UK.
If you look closely you can spot the odd English phrasing creeping into posts here and there but we are few and far between.
Possibly it is because region 2 DVD's can be so damned expensive and no regular channels (sky 1, BBC, ITV, Channel 4 etc) have shown the masterpiece that is firefly.
An awful lot of the fans in the UK were indoctrinated through word of mouth but we are alive and kicking and reserving our copies of Serenity just as passionately as the yanks!

P.S Any Keele Uni Students out there message me!

is there any browncoats who live cambridge, or in more than groups of two coz i feel like the only english that are talking about firefly are few and far apart, i want to talk to someone that understands what im talking about when i start going on about mudders milk! and hell even when i say im a browncoat!! we need to rebel in a well nice way... isnt there any conventions going on that we can all enjoy and well to be honest be very very english! and help boost the firefly fan base from this side of the atlantic!!!

Yes. I've lived here for the last 21 years and 3 months - since I was born basically.

Anyhow, we are generally more quiet and reserved about stuff than our continental neighbours. Though, considering that the French are our nearest and dearest, that's probably not saying much.

You do know that many of the worst atrocities of the American War of Independence were carried out by the "Patriot" side right? If you don't believe me look up the Gnadenhutten massacre for example

Interesting spin on things. Of course I could counter argue that since slavery is apparently legal in the Alliance, and that the slave owning landed classes are very much on top in the Alliance, they have more in common with the American Rebels.

You know we Brits abolished slavery here in England in 1772 and that fear we'd do the same in the Colonies was a major reason for the Rebellion right?

In any case if you'd like to argue this matter further (and good naturedly I hope) how about you start a thread in Real World FFF.NET and we can take the topic there instead of continuing to hijack this thread?

No actually it wasn't in direct retaliation for just the Burning of York (Modern day Toronto then Capital of Upper Canada) but for all the other Canadian Towns burned too.

The firing on the White Flag likely did colour Major General Robert Ross's view on exactly how many buildings he was going to burn though.

I'm from all over, but currently stranded in London.
Was told by a friend to watch Firefly when I said the trailer for the movie looked good.
Went out on a limb and bought the series (£14 - total bargain!), loved it, then bought the movie and loved that too.
I wish with all my heart that it hadn't been cancelled, but the tragedy just makes it all the more special to us.
Most of my flat are unenthusiastic fans, but I've met three others so far in my small social circle who have fallen for the wonder that is FIREFLY!
Anyway, I should technically be working for another 14 minutes, so I'm going to keep tapping random keys while occasionally looking at some documents.

we definitely do exist! I live in Nottingham, and have been a fan since i saw a ty advert for Serenity right in the middle of the adverts while i was watching Friends. It blew me away with its humour and effects. I went to see Serenity on my eighteenth birthday with seven mates- they loved it! A couple have bought Serenity on dvd, and i ordered Firefly off amazon and have wathced every episode three times! There aren't many of us u.k browncoats, but the number is getting larger all the time.

On the "Lound'n'proud" note, in an earlier life I was an active Trekker, promoting my local chapter of StarFleetCommand in Stoke-on-Trent, and regular convention go-er. Then I graduated from University, got a job and had no money or time for my mad hobby. Now I'm a dad and have even less of both.

My fandom is now one of quiet subversion, converting folks to the 'Verse in subtle ways.

And my 4 year old daughter can now sing the first verse of the Ballad of Serenity! That's ma gal!!

Hey all.

I've been getting more and more into Firefly since I started watching it again and again and again and I've been sharing the joy with about everyone I can.

I'm glad Serenity hit number one over here and DVD sales are supossedly massive but I'm not sure it's enough! One can only hope anyway.

I'm down near Gatwick airport, infact I work there so any of you Yankee Browncoats who want a hearty welcome to this side of the pond give me a shout! :)

Houston, myself, and I know what you mean. I spent four years at the University of Kansas in graduate school. It's in northern KS and I nearly froze my butt off walking to class every day. Of course, my sweet revenge came in August when I was the only person on the golf course when it was 95 degrees.

Ah Houston, my aunt stays there. Thats where I fly into everytime I come home. VERY BIG! lol. Oh just thinking about the heat makes me miss it! Already today it has rained, hailed, sun came out, hailed some more, and now it is a perfect spring day. I expect some more light rain and a few downpours before dinner! lol. Hi folks, just thought i'd pitch in, I'm a londoner although admittedly i'm at uni at warwick (near coventry) half the year, I only got into firefly in the past week or two after seeing serenity on dvd during which time i've watched all the episodes 3 times through + all the extras. Is there much by way of meetings for UK firefly fans?

Yep, I'm a UK browncoat!!! I first went to see Serenity, then I bought the Firefly boxset and I absolutely love it!!! I've managed to convert my sister, my mum and one of my friends and I am working on the rest. Unfortunately I'm the only one who is completely obsessed so I have no-one to talk to about it endlessly with.

Yup, we do exist, I'm a Browncoat from Glasgow, but I understand what you mean about feeling left out of things. Most of the conventions and stuff are all held south of the Border, but fear not, us Scots are about, we just need to rally ourselves!

I guess it is a lot easier to get around Britain than it is to get round the States. I won't tell you the journey I have to undertake for my hol this year!!
Still doesn't help if you have to worry about getting time off work so you can travel to all the events.

Are you living near the city centre? And have you heard about any Browncoat activities?
