About 14 hours ago, Serenity had edged up to #14, but just checked and got a very pleasant surprise: it's at #4!
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/new-for-you/top-sellers/-/dvd/all/
Considering that #1 and #3 are the same title ("March of the Penguins"), I personally consider Serenity at #3. This bodes well!

This is sooo shiny! I mean, look what other HUGE titles it is edging out, and it's only on pre-order! And the Firefly DVD set is #14!!! I'm so proud of everyone. *tears* I bet Fox is kicking themselves now!
Hears to hoping the DVD sale soar even more when it's finally released. 9 days! I know I'll be first in line as soon as my store opens. Guaranteed. (who cares about our sub-zero weather?)

Shiny. Now it's about gorram time someone notice all this anticiaption and think about a) Making plans for a sequel or b) Bringing back a certain cancelled series.

Checked just before bed last night, and it had slipped to #5, edged out by Family Guy...
and Jayne's voice popped into my head, demanding to know:
"What'd you all order a family guy for?"
Just checked again, and Serenity's back to #4, with Firefly at #14!
Now Mal's voice is in my head:
"I'm thinking we'll rise again"

Even # 5 is very good for our BDM. It keeps it in the top 10 and keeps it visible to people to generate interest & sales.

Errm...Just a question.
Isnt 4th place, BEFORE release; That is, only preorder, kinda impressive?
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Andre83, yes, exactly! Plus it's beating out some kickass stuff.
BrownCoat1, yes, you nailed it! Anywhere in the top 10 is magical. I get that there's lots more mass market stuff out there, so I'm pleasantly surprised (if not downright walking on air) that our beloved movie is doing so well.
That really speaks to the quality and fan devotion.
Now the big question: does Amazon still spam? I haven't bought anything from them in about four years, but am mighty tempted to order one copy, just to help out the numbers. I'm planning to buy my "main" copy at BestBuy in about 8 days, 30 minutes.
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Not really, I am sure they count all pre-orders as sales. So if its #4 then it has sold enough to be in 4th place.
NOTIFY: N | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Hello. I'm brand new here.
I'm a "discovered the show on DVD" fan and can't wait for the Serenity DVD.
I see it's back at #4. That is very impressive.
Mal:"Well look at this! Looks like we got here just in the nick of time! What does that make us?"
Zoey:"Big damn heroes sir!"
Mal:"Ain't we just!"
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Quietude, I think what Andre83 meant is that it's at #4 based entirely on preorders, which is extraordinary!
We're a now-now-now, can't-wait society. It's inspiring that a semi obscure movie is beating out big names like "Madagascar", "Family Guy", the 40th annniversary re-release of "Sound of Music", "Lost", and hey, even "Oprah".
I'm really not bothered that the only two titles currently outselling it are "Revenge of the Sith" and "March of the Penguins". Those are holiday blockbusters, with a lot of orders by lemmings.
Hmmm... will be mighty exciting to see where it is one week from today!

I got to say having 'March of the Penquins' and 'Star Wars Episode III' ahead of 'Serenity' surprises me.
The first is not as good as a class BBC documentary, and who would actually want to buy Episode III?
Fight for the Future? More like fight to raise the IQ in America.
Got to point out also, that alot of Browncoats over the world will be ordering Serenity from Amazon.com so having extra features in their respective countries is a very good sales tactic. I know I will buy the british version, and probably end up buying the Australian one as well, after I match up the extras and see whats missing. Boy am I sad :(
P.S. Chipmunk didn't see your update until I entered by own update. Funny we almost said exactly the same thing. Plus you are right, pre-orders to 4th place, so people without product for their money yet is pretty amazing.
NOTIFY: N | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
You're not sad! You are supporting a good cause! Thats not being sad, thats being enthusiastic, which in this case is good :)
And Episode III kinda has a bigger fanbase then serenity so i dont understand how you can be suprised its in front of Serenity. But not to worry, serenity will pass it soon enough, you'll see :)
(of cource i'm optimistic)

The reason I was surprised Star Wars Episode 3, was selling more than Serenity, is that its been a long time since it showed. Plus my personal feelings on leaving the cinema after watching it were, I am glad its over and I never want to see it again.
To know people are still actually buying Star Wars is more than a little disturbing.
Imagine telling your kid, alright first watch the first 3 bad episodes it gets better after that.

While it's nice that it's up there right now, it's also attracting trolls who are writing disparaging reviews of Serenity to try to discourage newbies from trying out the movie. It's important that we BURY those idiots with positive (ie. realistic) reviews to make sure that everyone who might buy the BDM for Christmas, or whatever, won't be discouraged from it by some moronic troll.

I just ordered 3 more boxsets and 3 movies...
We're at 4/15 for the movie/boxset
As 1 & 3 are 2 versions of the same movie, I hearby claim spot number 3 in the name of the Independence (but don't let any other movies get combined the same way please

Hmm... Wonder how far down the list the fullscreen version of Serenity is cause it aint in the top 100.

Whats with all of the Star Wars Bashing? As A NEW Firefly Fan (just dicovered the DVD Series, I do not watch much tv) I am a little supprised at this. Ignoring the merit of Ep 3 itself, star wars is an extremely popular franchise. People buy it to complete thier collection. Most Star Wars fans are not "Lemmings" but are in fact just like you... Fans Who had to Wait A LONG TIME for the completion of one of their favorite Series.

Cool, still flyin' at #4 at this moment :) Firefly's at #17.
Interestingly, Firefly's in the top 100 on amazon.co.uk (at #99), which I think's pretty impressive. Considering I'm sure many people bought Firefly with Serenity from amazon.com, hopefully Firefly'll be moving up the table soon :)
For all those who don't know, Serenity Region 2 is now available for preorder on amazon.co.uk :D Let's get it into the top 100!

Amazon. search on Serenity and scroll down the list to the bottom. It's there. Same prices.
Or click the "Buy Serenity" link on the upper left of the home page for this site and then click the "Serenity (Widescreen Edition)" link you see on Amazon. Scroll down to "other Languages & Versions)
I been trying to convince my mom that widescreen is better than full screen. She thinks she's getting ripped off cause part of the screen is black...

Their old TV (with tubes!
) finaly died after 20 years so we got her a widescreen TV to replace it a few months ago and she doesn't argue about it anymore. It's just that very few full screen version are being sold cause fans know even the original TV series was shot in widescreen. I'd guess, it's mostly people like my mom who are really bothered by the black bars on screen or who simply don't know the series history that are buying the fullscreen version.

Well I just ordered my UK version of Serenity.
In regards to the Star Wars bashing. If I had to wait 20 odd years for the completion of the set and saw 'Sith' I would be mighty disappointed, which I was. It was hard not to fall asleep during it. I just wish that Lucas hadn't been so artsy fartsy to give the original (brilliant) movies numbers like Episode IV and V and VI. If he hadn't done that Samuel L Jackson wouldn't have add to play such a one dimensional character and get killed off so poorly. All I can say is 'Who could have done this?'
Either that or I am just getting old and jaded, then again Serenity made me feel the same way I did when I saw my first Star Wars movie in a theatre 25 odd years ago. Marvelous.

i actually thought episode 3 is on par with the original trilogy. yeah, it had some boring parts, but so did episode 4, which people never seem to admit.

I just noticed that we're one of only four movie in the top 100 that are preorders... And we're in the top five [#4 thank you very much
].
They are [in order of appearance]:
1. Serenity [Widescreen]
2. BSG Season 2.0
3. Wedding Crashers Uncorked
4. The Shield Season Three [?]
Everything else has been out for a while and we're toping them all in most orders. That a true testament to use. In the top five of orders out of 100 and we're there in all preorders? Thats Fantastic.

MtnScott, I strongly suspect that at least 99% of Firefly fans are Star Wars fans. None of us is dissing Star Wars, per se. Yes, there's some good natured (e.g. Quietude & Andre83's
thoughts on kids) bashing of the prequels, but in the context of loving the originals, and feeling "somewhat" let down by the prequels.
True fans tend to buy DVDs the first release week, 'cause... well,
we're Fans. A more pragmatic reason is that DVDs are generally discounted somewhat their first week, and it can take months (even years) before the regular price comes down to the first week price. Granted, some Fans (particularly financially limited ones) do hold off on holiday releases, in hopes that relatives will give them something they really want (one of my friends is "not allowed" to buy any DVDs in December - he's making an exception for Serenity).
Given those data points, I feel it's reasonable to surmise that most of the current "Revenge of the Sith" purchases are last minute holiday gift purchases. It's those folks whom I classify as "lemmings".
The most compelling data point that the lemmings are hard at work, is that the full screen version of "March of the Penguins" is selling so well. Fans don't buy full screen. I rest my case.
From a practical point of view, Serenity being at #4 might attract the attention of the lemmings. I don't care who buys our BDM, just buy it. Go lemmings go!
Not to diss non-humanoid lemmings, in any way, 'cause I'm a rodentia-phile, and despite their racing stripe impairedness, they're a vital part of sub-arctic ecology - humanoid lemmings, not-so-much.

That is what suprised me. ROTS is by far the best of the Prequels (tied for 1st in the series imho). It did an excelent job of closing the story. FF fans should be proud for thier accomplishment to be in the same realm as SW sales. It really says something about everyone here and the franchise. I guess I just hate when someone tries to rip down something I care about to try and elevate something else.

Films usually jump up in sales a lot when they're actually released so it has a good chance of going to no 1 - though Christmas might be affecting it.
Also: it's #2 on playusa.com - which is the region 1 import wing of the European play.com and is probably mostly used by people in the UK.

Not to sound to fan boy about this but, This Rules. I missed Serenity in theaters but I found a "last Chance" theater today so I finally get to see it and this way I can buy it 6 day after viewing it.
I hope the Amazom numbers keep rolling in and "Serenity" can go the way of "Pich Black" only by the Gods let it be better than "Ridick".

MtnScott, personally, I don't hate the prequels, and for what it's worth, last week I put library holds on all the prequels (I own the originals), so I could watch all six movies in order, ideally over a two to three week period, just so I can honestly assess them all as a complete series. I'll post back then. Peace?
Sirvec, you don't sound like a "fan boy"... least, not to this Fan! Feel free to see it at least once more in the theater. My wholly personal opinion is that it's best viewed at least three times on the big screen, in order to grok it in fullness.
