So I had a little time to kill while members of my family were shopping. It's a little buggy at the moment, but give it a whirl and let me know what you think.

I like it!!

But I can't enter me yet, the Geocoder can't find my little town! Doesn't surprise me none, but I'll check some local stuff and come back.

"Why did this get so complicated?" Mal

This is so cool. You rock Haken.

For some reason, I'm in Antarctica. Either the geocoder thing is off or the map is off.

Yeah, had a bug. Problem fixed. If you enter your long/lat again, it should put you at the right location.

Yeah. And, really, for our purpose here on FFF.NET, it needn't be since it's all in fun. Besides, the coordinates derived from geocoding isn't very accurate.

I don't have a GPS, nor a GPS feature on my cell phone, but if you do, I would like to see how accurate those coordinates are when plotted on the Google map.

UK browncoats, you can get your latitude and longitude by going to www.streetmap.co.uk.

All you need to do is enter your postcode, click on "search", then when your map comes up scroll to the blue box near the bottom which says:
"This product includes mapping data licensed from Ordnance Survey". In this box you can click the link which says "cick here to convert"... and you getthe lat and long.

In Haken's map you need to enter the lat and long that are in brackets, not the bit that says "N.." and "W.."

This is an excellent idea!

I've added my name to the map. It's kinda weird and cool to be able to see all the towns and cities in your area, and pin point your exact location.

Thanks for helping out us U.K Browncoats too Britchick!

And, thanks for submitting the map Haken! This is an excellent addition to the site.

Thanks Britchick for the help, to be a bit quicker Uk Browncoats can just go here and enter their Post Code at the bottom:

0&type=OSGrid

Then it's the numbers in brackets for Lat and Long

For Long. and Lat. numbers you can get them from many maps. If you know any pilots, or are near an airport (one for small planes) they will have an accurate avation map called a sectional map. Or you can just use the numbers of the airport itself.

My guess is: JavaScript is either off or doesn't work properly (the map makes heavy use of it).

An engaging novelty!

Close. Actual location is about 80 kilometres southwest of the noted point. Of course, I only entered to the .01 minute each way.

On a quasi-unrelated note, it seems I've made a FF fan out of my non-tv-watching brother. Does that seem right to you? Aargh, another boxed set to buy.... It's all Haken's fault!

Some additions to our little map.

- Map will now center on "you" when you first view the map. A helpful feature for those of us who are not in North America and are across the pond.

- Your coordinates and note will now display as default. Helpful when editing.

- Notes will now display in the popup info box. I'm limiting the length to 25 characters for now. I might increase it depending on how it'll affect performance. Also, avatar/image display is coming soon, but we'll see how much time I have this week on working on this.

Give us a hint on the format of the latitude and longitude required and maybe it won't put a good ole Tejas boy in Southeast Asia

37 25 19.1 N Lat
122 05 06 W Long

should be entered how ?

Hey Johnboy, Go back to the page that has the map with all of us on it (the one from the link above) and there is a space on the left hand side of the page in which you can copy and paste your latitidue and longitude in there. Then hit Map It.

Appreciate the response,
I know where to put it... just not the proper format that it is expecting....
my coordinates are in hours minutes seconds from google earth...

but nope...
entering my lat and long in the format..
37 25 19.1 N
122 05 06 W

and it transposes it to
372519.1
1220506

which puts it in Antartica -
closer, but still not Texus

I use the Decimal Degrees format on the map for longitude and latitude.
