Serenity Might Fly Again?
Loni Peristere, visual-effects supervisor for the SF movie Serenity, told SCI FI Wire that there's hope for future flights of the cast and crew of the movie, which just came out on DVD. Director Joss Whedon—who also created the canceled Fox TV show Firefly, on which the movie is based—expected that the movie might draw the low numbers it did in its theatrical release, Peristere said in an interview. But he added that the movie's sales on DVD, which came out on Dec. 20, are running neck-and-neck with the hit comedy Wedding Crashers, which bodes well for a possible Serenity sequel.
"We kind of expected this from our audience," Peristere said. "We did so well on [Amazon.com] with the Firefly box set and the performance of that helped us get the movie made. We wish the audience would get up and go to the theater, but it shows that they like to keep coming back and revisiting the world Joss created." Serenity made $25 million at the domestic box office after it was released Sept. 30.
Whedon and his crew are waiting to see how well the DVD numbers go before proceeding with a Serenity sequel, Peristere said. "We really hope to return to this work," he said. "We love the characters. It's fun storytelling, and we all love using our talents. ... It all depends on Joss. He's not giving up on the characters. He had incredible writers who had a million stories to tell, and we're all just hanging out and seeing what the world has to give us, and given the opportunity we'll make more."
In the meantime, fans of both show and movie can enjoy the DVD's various extras, which include an Easter egg: a featurette about the making of the Fruity Oaty Bar commercial that appears in the film. "In the main menu, if you play around with the buttons you'll find a featurette of the Fruity Oaty Bar," Peristere revealed. (From the main menu highlight "play," then press left, which will highlight a marker on the right side of the menu; press enter to see the featurette.) "It's all a lot of fun," he said.
This is great, I am so excited for this series! Sounds like the dvd sales are doing real great even though there are no advertisements for serenity and Wedding crashers are still getting adverts...

When it comes out in the UK I'm running, not walking to the store. For the first 350 yards. Then I'll be crawling probably. I'll let you know if anyone carries me.
And then I'll run in again! And buy Seven Samurai, or that wonderful film Sideways, or probably that frankly astonishing 'Edge of Darkness' BBC mythic thriller.
Only one copy for me. Nobody tells NervousPete what to do. Especially when he has a viewing list a mile long.
However, rest assured I will nag others.

This is 100% fan driven too. I highly doubt non-Serenity fans would buy the DVD from the cover art or blurb on the back. Buy more DVDs! Give them to others! Can we get a donation drive to buy DVDs for some needy group of folks? I've bought four DVDs now -- I'm greatly running out of people to give them to! *sigh* Guess it is time for "Plan B": Buy copies of Serenity, find cars with open doors or windows, place a copy in their car. If I don't get shot, think of all the new fans I could make!!?!

That's a great idea! What idiot executive cancelled the show in the first place? I have never seen a show where the actors were so comfortable with their characters right off the bat. I love Star Trek, but I have to say, that the first 12 episodes of TNG, DS9, and Voyager should have cancelled those series as well, the acting was so bad and the characters so ackward. Firefly blows them away, but some idiot reality show lover executive decides that WE don't want to see Sci-Fi shows, we need more Survivor. Firefly has left me needing to know these characters more, and I hope we all get that chance. I have a few people I can buy the DVD for, if I can find it!

Hey, don't go being mean to DS9, that was my favorite Star Trek series.
Anyways, when the inevitable special edition comes out, we can spend a bunch more money on it again and hopefully, Universal will make a BDS.

Sorry! Wasn't trying to be mean. DS9 is also my favorite. But the characters of all the Star Trek series didn't really become endearing until late in the first season, or early in the second. What I was trying to say, not so gracefully, was that if they hadn't had the words Star Trek in front of them, I don't think they would have made it. The characters of Firefly are so interesting and so well played, I just don't understand how it could be cancelled! I don't think it was even given a chance! I guess I'm still in the denial stage.

I was just messing with you. No harm meant. Though I really do agree with the fact that the characters grew on you on DS9, whereas on Firefly, I immediately had my favorites and loved all of those people. It was cancelled mainly because of poor advertisement, a horrible slot time, and Joss and the execs usually didn't see eye to eye, and example being that they aired The Train Job first instead of Serenity, the pilot.

The reasons the ratings were so bad on Firefly were:
A: They had it take on MLB playoffs
B: THEY PLAYED IT OUT OF ORDER SO IT DIDN"T MAKE SENSE! The first episode THEY showed was "Train job." So halfway through the season, all of a sudden, everybody's just meeting Simon, the Sheppard, and River has been in cryogenic sleep for weeks! It failed because of Fox's inability to be inteligent!
C: NO ADVERTISING! I didn't know Firefly even existed until I found the box set in the store after the show was cancelled. I watched Fox all the time. Now, I refuse!

I give 'em to two to four years... Joss has Wonder Woman and Goners to do... it generally takes three years to make a movie from scratch. About two years for a sequel.
That doesn't mean people can't do only one thing at a time... but... it does mean that I've got a feeling that he is going to be more focused on other projects for a while.
This means though... keep buying the DVD... keep it high in the Must Want category... with the revenue that this could create and the amount of browncoats made every day this next movie or next series/show could be blockbuster material. We all just need to be patient... and persistant.
Brilliance is like 4WD... I allows you to get stuck in even more remote places...

Yes. I waited for Firefly. Watched the first episode, cringing, thinking, "Joss, this will never make it." After a couple more episodes, came to love it. Did my bit contributing to the cost of the Variety advertisement, likewise one of the Big Damn Cakes that were sent to the cast/crew. When the show was canceled, with three episodes never to be seen and no DVDs in sight, I stopped watching TV. Really. Haven't watched TV since. Why should I? I watch a lot of DVDs, though.
BTW people, if you don't know already, "Space: Above and Beyond" is on DVD.

And now the waiting begins. Will there be more TV? A movie sequel? Super-Extended Special DVD editions? No one knows, but we all want to do our part, even knowing it could be a losing battle.
There's something very familiar about this feeling. Ahh, yes. This is what it was like after the series was cancelled.
Of course, much as I hated that experience, and am not looking forward to reliving it, I just can't give up. I'm a Browncoat. Fighting uphill battles against all odds is what we do.

Just a random thought here, but about a month ago the Fox show 'Bones' made a clear reference to Firefly in its opening dialogue. I figure a nice package of DVD's and Sets for the writer's would be really well received. Not sure how to go about this but it might be worth a shot. If we continue to invade pop-culture with references to Serenity-Firefly I can't see anything but good coming from it, especially a BDS!!

Here is an amazing story for all to read.
I hate Sci Fi, it never interested me. One day I went to this really cheap movie theatre and saw a movie called Serenity. Although Serenity served as the begining to what many call an end. I think it was what opened the door. This is the first SciFi show that I like.. no love and the first show which I have ever been obsessed about. I am actually writing this from work, thats how obsessed I am. After I saw the movie, I went out and purchased the TV series, and I put my name on the waiting list on Amazon for the movie. This movie can convert anyone, I have single handed got more that 10 people to open up and enjoy a real TV show.
I just felt like sharing :biggrin
Oh yeah make sure you vote for the return of serenity on the sci fi link.

Thanks for sharing, FOXMUSTDIE, our stories resemble each other. I saw the movie on a whim, what a great day that turned out to be. I hit the internet as soon as I got home & found out about Firefly. Went out the next day and purchased the set--spending the rest of the day watching all the episodes. You'd have to know me to understand that this is not my normal behavior--nor do I become obsessed with television series. Obsessed is the key word here--and it resembles me--ha!
Since then, I've had may converts & have purchased ten copies of the BDM for Christmas gifts. Everybody in our family is a proud owner. My in-laws have my Firefly set--for two weeks now, and I'm having withdrawal symptoms--lol. Thinking I'll be purchasing another set and leaving the in-laws with the first. Seems they must really like it.

I'm not sure I'm going to buy multiple copies either. I've never been the type to buy extras, and I refuse to buy the BDM or the show for people as gifts if they've never seen it. I don't like the thought of our BDHs sitting on someone's shelf and not being seen. However, after the conversion...
Don't worry, I'm compensating by scooping up all of the books and comics I can get my grubby little mitts on.
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, Fox!

Farscape was this way too. I'm really surprised that people aren't comparing Firefly's season one to Farscape's. Both came out incredibly strong from the first episode.
Brings up an intresting debate though. Could Firefly have maintained this momentum for multiple seasons? This is something that Farscape could not accomplish, as by season 3, it did not resemble what we had seen earlier (IMHO). We'll certainly never know.
So, does the bulb that shines twice as bright, last half as long?

Causal said it, y'all. We're browncoats and we'll fight a battle outnumbered, underpaid, and weak, but we'll still fight because every day our ranks our growing and our spirit strengthens. We can win this war and get our show back, I just know it.
Keep runin' up that hill, browncoats. The enemy (ie, Fox) has lost the higher ground for long enough for Joss to make a movie. If we keep pushing I'm sure we'll beat them off eventually.

Blue Star Mothers already send tons of stuff a week. We just need to get the videos into their hands.
I think Right now there are more or less 150,000 troops in threater. They dont all need the video. but at a company level this could be achieved.

Fox Execs --- phooey!
I've been impressed by the number of people who've bought from this group ( http://www.cafepress.com/blood_love_etc/811178). But then, FOX has made it their business to leave a lot of people sore about the loss of beloved shows.
I try and console myself that they will, in there is justice in the afterlife, be forced to watch their own crappy reality programming 'round-the-clock for eternity. Oh yes, they *will* suffer!

Last time we raised box-sets for thetroops it was a grand success. Look through the archives here and you'll find some details.
I seem to remember that it was easier to work with the navy from a tech p.o.v. The sets in Iraq may not be NTSC or something; they definitely are on the ships.
I would also receommend buying a copy of the boxset and the movie and donating them to your local library, assuming they carry dvd's. It is amazing how many people watch movies from the library. And they're more willing to take a chance on something since they don't have to pay; it's a constant fan-converter.

I agree, I want more episodes. It should start back right where it left off, and I want to see River freak everybody out with her slow realization of her unique abilities. I guess this is the penalty for taking the UK shortcut instead of waiting another several months for an official German release. I can see no other reason.

Howdy fellow browncoats, I have just recently joined the ranks with a story not unlike many of yours. I saw the Firefly series on Fox, and enjoyed it, but not to the extent that I do today. It was often hard to catch, and aired out of order. I was happy when I saw that the Sci-Fi channel had picked it up, but it was still hard for me to see the show. When I finally saw the movie however, my intrest was completely revamped and I recently purchaced the DVD box set. I can't stop watching and don't want to. Do yall think that perhaps a video game could emerge from the Firefly verse that could generate revenue and and enough new fan interest to help get Serenity back in the black? I loved Microsoft's freelancer, and they're making games out of everything these days, and movies from games.

This show appeals to all of us, even those of us who don't like Sci-Fi because it gives us characters aren't the perfect little prodigal children all adhering to a single mold like Star Trek nor living in the impossibly heightened hyper-reality of Star Wars but are deep, intelligent, compelling, and above all real people locked in a world where virtue is not always rewarded and the good guys do not necessarily win. I believe that these corporate empires with their love affair for easy profit killed our show because its uniqueness, intelligence, and artistic strength paled in comparison to the force of their rapaciously deaf, dumb, and blind greed.
My point in all of this is that if we can't force Universal to restart Joss' short-lived masterpiece by playing by the rules then let's change them. The weakness in leaving it to Universal is essentially the same as leaving it to FOX (with some differences, but the same fundamental problem). “Selling” as Joss himself admits may not Joss' strong suit, but artistic vision is. The goal is to transform the equation entirely.
We are the central force in keeping Serenity flying so perhaps that is the way to restore the show to TV AND keeping it alive on the big screen. Star Trek and Star Wars did it, so why not Firefly?
Many of us (old guard and newfound conscripts alike) have already proven our devotion to the cause in the only language these suits understand: money. These suits have the power and influence to resurrect Firefly back to TV format but are seemingly blind to our incredible victory in taking a show that lasted only thirteen episodes and impressing a demigod of a conglomerate enough to make a major motion picture (which still didn't get the saturation advertising (commercials on primetime networks advertising both the movie and the SERIES in one 30sec+ package) nor marketing (in the form of enough theaters) to give it a chance to truly fly). As I said, we might need to re-think our strategy.
Here is the crux of what I propose:
1. Joss forms a corporation whose purpose is to buy Firefly’s way back into existence as a series. This corporation like all corporations will have shares so we browncoats can in essence buy ownership and share a stake in Firefly’s success. We can control Firefly's destiny instead of sacrificing massive amounts of money to dimwitted shortsighted suits only interested in cheap profit. We can use this ownership to negotiate with Sci-fi (owned by Universal) and buy a decent timeslot and pick up the series with the same cast, writers, director, etc. under Joss's direction. Then he won't have to continually "sell" his vision to those unsymPathetic fools because we will directly harness Firefly's resurgence. Of course, this requires an investment (note that the purchase of shares will provide dividends) from us in Joss' foundling company sufficient for it to go public. Once public, our options will increase and Joss can guide Firefly’s fate back to the forum it was meant to be in the first place. We can, at Joss' direction, promote the series properly through mass media and in junction with Sci-fi to bring the series back to life. From an investor’s point of view even if the corp. ultimately failed the investor is likely to recover most of his money anyway. This is just one idea, but I haven't heard anyone mention it before so I thought I'd offer it. By relying directly on our own strength and minimizing the powers of those suits that do not care about anything greater than the bottom line TODAY, Firefly might live to fly again in the way it was meant to. (And Universal can keep making movies while we keep Serenity flying on TV). Or…
2. (Adaptation of 1.) Universal offers Firefly fans a chance to contribute money directly to a fund specifically set aside for the express purpose of providing Firefly the funds required to pay either wholly or in some fixed part the cost of one season of the revitalized series on Sci-Fi at a decent timeslot. Same cast, crew, direction, etc as before, picking right up where the se

What a moving speech! I totally agree in most of your points ImperialKnight, I think that we could (and should?) do more than filling the moneybags of FOX and universal. It´s time to start on our OWN!

Lovely to see Serenity is doing what was hoped with the DVD sales.
I have bought as much Firefly/Serenity stuff as I can lay my hands on in the hope that my money will talk in the only language suits understand.
I know three extra people that will be going to see any Serenity sequel that missed the original showing at the flicks.
I'm sure lots of others here know new Browncoats too that will be going to support any future movies.

You have obviously thought this out greatly. We need to send a message to Fox (as I suspect they still own the rights) that we are this serious. We need to do so just as the fans did in '67 and '68 to keep TOS on the air. I think you've spelled out our requests/demands pretty well. See what the gang thinks...

FOX is a many-headed hydra, the F*X Network that cancelled Firefly is not FOX Productions who we will almost certainly be dealing with over the issue of copyright for bringing the series back. Others may know more background into this but several of Joss' previous projects have had FOX on the label that were never even shown on F*X Network without copyright infringement litigation arriving on their doorstep. As long as we move cautiously (and I think ANTIREAVERS step of enlisting the aid of a copyright lawyer is a wise step), pledge enough money, and get Joss and Co. to sign on, we may be flying back into the black sooner than we think.

I may be stepping on pins and needles here, but do we even know if Joss HASN'T negotiated another TV timeslot? When you think about it, these things take time. First of all, he has to make sure all the characters will be able to play their parts! The Baldwin is currently on another TV show! It might be a few years before all of the characters are available! He also has to shoot a few episodes, just like when trying to get a book published, you have to submit a few chapters, and submit them to major networks. And let's face it, SCI FI isn't going to get Firefly back on its feet again. It just doesn't produce enough revenue to get $2 million per episode! We'd need a major corporation, like FOX, ABC, or CBS. THIS TAKES TIME!
We MIGHT get lucky enough to have the series back in mid 2007, but realistically, we're looking at early 2008 IF the show ever comes back to the small screen. Joss has already SAID that he doubts that it ever will. He said, "Serenity will probably fly on the silver screen from here on out."
We need to face it. We have movies to look forward too, for now. Maybe, if the sequel to Serenity gains enough revenue, it'll return to the small screen. And as for us BUILDING a corporation, BUYING shares, or all of that, it's a wastefull effort. The money your AntiReaver friend has CAN'T EVEN BUY ONE EPISODE! To even propose to ANY network, you need THREE OR FOUR.
Sorry to burst everybody's collective bubbles, but just because a proposal is long, doesn't make it good. It's unrealistic and WILL NEVER HAPPEN. I'm sorry, but we can't even get 100,000 people to sign a freakin' petition for HBO to pick it up, much less the amount of people needed to buy a corporation.

Your judgments are based on misconceptions and weaknesses not supported by facts.
1. 2 million USD an episode is simply crazy and demands a cold and forceful inquiry to justify it. This extreme figure is reducible at least in part explained by a change in venue to Vancover where Scifi does most if not ALL their Scifi (as well as serving as the hometown of Jewel Staite(Kailee) and possibly Nathan Fillion(Capt. 'Tightpants') who also lives in Canada). This reduces the cost in two very significant ways: one, the cost of keeping the door open, the crew fed, and set built and maintained in Canada is FAR, FAR less than the Hollywoodesque excesses of L.A. and for doing important show business in Canada has raised the prospect I am told from those that live there of government subsidies to defray operating and/or material expenses; second, Scifi has CGI scripters and computer modelers who aren't used to buying up pleasure palaces on Manhattan Island every two payperiods. Give me a break...Firefly principal focus was always on character development, interaction, plot, and story-driven conflicts not recreating Star Wars universe with every episode. Special effects where present are often far less and more muted than Battle Star Galactica and Scifi affords that plenty with ease and grace (Universal OWNS Scifi - consider that too). Aside from a fixed cost in constructing the set and requisite props and sundry gear as well as maintaining the set there is no significant equipment related costs. The actors and actresses on staff weren't A list famous and so can not demand multi-million dollar salaries. Advertising and Marketing were literally non-existent and so no costs are justifiable in this regard. Joss himself may have commanded a respectable wage but he is certainly no corrupt politician or the typical multi-national Corporate tycoon to add up to that ridiculous figure. CGI scripting and computer modeling simply is *NOT* THAT excessive or so obscenely difficult yet legions of them were utilized - why? for what? What did we get aside from a few shots comparable to Babylon 5; maybe even less shots than that. Transportation? It is true that Nathan Fillion and Jewel Staite lived in Canada prior to the show but they simply wouldn't want Lear luxury jet liners ala Enron

Found this on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serenity_(film) Sequel rumors
Fans of Firefly had hoped that if Serenity were successful, it might lead either to a revival of the television series or a film franchise. The former was always unlikely, since Fox still owns the Firefly television rights. Fans' hopes for further theatrical films appear to have been partially dashed by Serenity's poor box office showing. However, on December 1, 2005, IGN Filmforce reported that Universal had expressed an interest in making a Serenity TV movie for broadcast on the Sci Fi Channel (which is owned by Universal), and eventual DVD sale. It is expected that commissioning of a television sequel would be contingent on strong DVD sales of Serenity.[10] It should be noted that Joss Whedon, in response to the many rumors and speculations, has always said that nothing will be decided until the DVD sales are known.

Yes, we are continuing to fight years later, but with well justified hope. "Family Guy", cancelled by Fox, is again going to grace the small screen with new episodes. "Futurama", ditto. Both were brought back because the fans continued to rabidly devour the shows on the Cartoon Network. The continued strength in the ratings demonstrated that there was money to be made by reviving the francise. We can do the same by watching the reruns on the SciFi channel, and encouraging everyone we meet in elevators to do the same.
We'll get a BDS. Look at the other dross that gets redone.
Remember to branch out on your purchases. The Serenity Role Playing Game is a good way to demonstrate continued support for the series (by buying the suppliments & such) and shows the depth and continuity of the fan base. If series related books come out, try those too, & look on Amazon for Firefly related materials. My wife owns a cool "Shiny!" t-shirt, & I saw a lighter & ornament on FFF website somewhere. If anyone doubts this format will work, I'd just like them to look at the Star Trek monolith, which was built based on the book & convention base after the cartoon series left the air.
What was the Firefly reference on "Bones"? I don't watch Fox but I am curious.

I'm new here, and haven't felt the need to do this before, (even when my one sci-fi star Farscape plummeted in the night). Like many of you I have had to watch as the shows I love are trashed for more reality TV garbage. It sickens me really.
I too am guilty of never seeing the show when it was on the air originally. At the time Buffy was nearing it's end, and being an avid fan, it was one of the few shows I tuned in for during the week.
Wrongly I assumed that the show, being done by Whedon, would last long enough to catch up on after Buffy, and eventually Angel, had run their course. Sadly Buffy ended, and then Angel, unexpectedly shortly thereafter. I was saddened by both of their losses, and more or less forgot about Firefly.
My wife and I have collected all of the Buffy and Angel seasons and had moved on to other things when I heard about Firefly coming to DVD. I had not, (and have still have not seen Serentiy) because I was afraid without previous knowledge of the show I would be lost in the theater. Being a big fan of Whedon's work, we thought it might be worth checking into.
Upon seeing the release of Serenity on DVD, we made the decision to pick both up after Christmas to see what all the hype was all about.
Honestly I expected to be sorely disappointed, but went about shopping for it anyway.
First and foremost I had a hell of a time finding either the movie or the show after Christmas. I went over to Best Buy here in town and luckily they had a copy of Firefly stuffed in behind some other shows.
Let me tell you it has been one of the best DVD purchases I have made in sometime.
I never tought I would say this, but it's one of the best sci-fi shows on (or sadly now off) the air in who knows when. I have been watching and savoring every episode since I began watching a few short weeks ago. I only allow myself one or two episodes aweek in order to make it last, but it takes a lot of self control. I'll end it all with the movie, with the hopes that there will be more to come.
With shows like Family Guy and Farscape ( the latter if only shortly) pulled from mothballs, perhaps my hopes may not be in vain.
Just wanted to throw my hat in with everyone else here and declare myself (if not a little late) a faithful BrownCoat.
Keeping my fingers crossed,
Criten

ImperialKnight, your idea (set up a corporation to buy the rights to Firefly) is exactly what I was thinking about. Browncoats say they're ready to put their money down to keep the signal going. So, it seems that some one of them could create a corporation (i.e., a "real" corporation with a real board and real business plan), sell shares to Browncoats to capitalize, and make its first order of business to buy the rights to Firefly from Fox. If Fox's ownership of those rights is the big blockage, then the logical thing to do is create a company with the legal and financial ability to buy them. At that point, more options open up because Joss can actually have meaningful negotiations with other networks. I have no idea how much money it would take, but I'd buy shares . . .
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
I'm thinkin tho Fox may take offense at a group of fans trying to procure a shows rights. Its hard enough for a different Network to get them let alone a group of fans... They may just see it in a way that if they were to sell it to fans it would set them in a bad stead with other networks, or something like that. Its a good idea and all, but the likelihood of it actually working is very minimal. I sugest we let the big guns sort it out for themselves. If they don't well, we can always just enjoy what we have now like we already do.

Oh, I'm sorry, excuse me. I got a little carried away.
I beleive that we absolutely can create a corp. to buy the rights, but I also agree that Fox would never give them up. I actually e-mailed the corporate office, and asked who I could send copies of the series and movie to, to try to convince the exec's that the show has many more years. My thinking was that if any of them had actually watched the series, it would never had been cancelled. And even though I feel the fan based corp is probably a waste of time, I would buy shares, and many of them, in the hopes that just starting the corp. would be enough of a buzz to get Fox thinking about the merrits of bringing the show back.

I will have to respectfully disagree with your thought that Fox would never give up the rights to Firefly. As others have repeatedly stated, it's all about money. Fox will give up the rights if Fox believes that doing so is best for Fox's bottom line. Remember that with the rights to Firefly, Fox also has the rights to all the income stream generated from Firefly (the profit from the DVD sales, the profit from officially licensing Firefly products, future development rights, etc.) There is a dollar figure that Fox would jump at to sell the rights, no matter who made the offer. I have no earthly idea what figure that would be; maybe it would be so high as to be out of the reach of our hypothetical Browncoats, Inc. But EVERYTHING is for sale, and we won't ever know what the price might be if we don't ever take any steps to find out.
Maybe it's another pipe dream. Seems that might be a Browncoat specialty.

Hey, Shiney777, I completely understand the whole nothing-worth-watching-on-tv scenario.
I'm not sure what the first step in creating Browncoats, Inc. would be. If it were up to me, I'd like to see a core group of competent Browncoats who are able (have the time and skills) and willing (think it's worth pursuing) to begin putting together some information. One of the competent "volunteers" should be a corporate and securities attorney who can advise the group on the legal niceties that have to be observed. Another one should be somewhat of an entertainment industry insider who can point the right direction to the right people to get a realistic number on what it would take to buy the rights from Fox. Depending on what information they put together, the whole thing might or might not be worth pursuing.
For myself, I'll stand on the sidelines and cheer (although I'm willing to help in small ways, my life doesn't lend itself right now to this kind of endeavor), and buy shares of Browncoats, Inc. when they become available. Are there any competent, able, and willing volunteers out there? Or, is it best to take the more passive route of buying DVDs, recruiting more Browncoats, and hoping that's enough (which it might well be)? I don't know, but time will tell.

I never said give up... Hell I want Firefly back as much, as any one on this forum, I was just stating that as FOX is a large company (a 500 company) it has its reputation to look to. How will they look if they were to sell the rights to a company made entirely of fans. Now I'm not saying it won't work, and it would be a first for the entertainment industry, i'm just trying to say that its going to be a lot harder then what you most likely think. Remembering that the stock market is a very fluid entity, half the fun will just be in floating the company let alone selling any shares. Still I hope to be proven very, very wrong. :)
