When Simon looked at River and asked "Am I talking to Miranda now?" [River makes a face as if he is nuts]LOL
River's expressions tell a story without spoken dialog.
Especially while robbing the bank and is sensing who would be a problem while they went to work getting the payroll.

I think Serenity is very underestimated.

Wind, (can I call you "Wind"?)

If you've read my posts in your thread (and elsewhere), you know how I feel about Summer's performance in this film.

Yeah, there's the obvious things which stand out, but (as you so adeptly pointed out here) there's also the little things -- the facial expressions and reactions to another's lines.

Given the way Hollywood does things, I honestly didn't expect them to acknowledge her on this work, but it's sad that they haven't.

It's worse than sad. It's pathetic.

That's why many leave the mainstream.
Johnny Depp did but occassionally comes back for more meaningful roles (or big paychecks). But he did it much his way.
Many of his films are rarely accepted as mainstream. He is devoted to Tim Burton and john Waters for direction.Most of their films are not your typical
Burton escaped the curse of making sequels for Planet of the Apes. He did just one and walked away

Hollywood is full of self centered cannibals and will eat up those that really try hard.

I agree with your take but I don't think Hollywood is full of cannibals. They kinda act like cannibals but they are really dilettantes who ingore or demean anyone with real talent they consider a threat.

yeah, alot of people pan Blade Runner but I've always loved it and considered it one of the better sci fi films out there. When I was a teenager a long long time ago I read "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Phillip K. Dick on which the movie is based. This was one of the few movies based on a book that didn't disappoint me. One thing I've always wondered is what the Tannhauser Gate is?

Based on context, it makes me think of a "jump-gate" (as seen in Babylon 5), either named for a person ("Tannhauser") or serving a planet or sector named Tannhauser.

I think Hollywood is shooting itself in the foot. More and more people are getting fed up with the cheep ass plots, and demeaning tag lines. Unfortunatly there are too many people who will see anything because of being bored, so they make money still. Come a day there will be no one who will stand for that, or at least thats my fervent hope. Do I think Firefly was booted because of competitiveness? Hell no, cause if Firefly had been in a competition, it would have won. Only they "forgot" to invite it.

BTW, I went to see "Blade Runner" in the theatre when it was first released. I had no idea what it was about, and was essentially only going because a friend asked me to, and we both liked Harrison Ford (this was the height of the "Star Wars" period).

I was amptly impressed. I had never seen a film like that before. The story, the cinematography, the acting, the sets... The two chicks were hot, too. That didn't hurt.

Liked it the way it was told like a 1940's detective film, too. Nice production as a whole. And how many awards did it win? (Oh, that's another thread. Sorry.)
