According to posts I've been reading at IMdB, George Lucas ripped on Serenity and Firefly and Whedon calling them bargain bin trash. The posters provide no link but said it was in an interview featured on www.supershadow.com.
Does anyone know if this is true? Has anyone actually seen this article or interview?

Dear Mr. Lucas, I love all your movies. I was wondering if you have ever seen the movie Serenity written and directed by Joss Whedon? Many critics compare it to the Star Wars Prequels and how much better it is. "It is the best sci-fi movie I've seen since The Empire Strikes Back." I was wondering how you felt about the movie, did you like it?
George Lucas: The best way to judge how could science fiction films are is to examine their box-office earnings. Serenity took in a weak $ 25 million dollars in North America. Revenge of the Sith crushed this figure with earnings toppling over $ 380 million dollars. Hence, Star Wars is fifteen times more popular that the hack work produced by Whedon.
All of Whedon’s TV shows can be found in the bargain basement bin for DVD’s. Buffy - The Vampire Slayer, Firefly and Angel can be bought for $ 10 bucks for the entire season run. Anti-popular is the way I describe it. All and all, Serenity is just another piece of crap in the wall. That will surely drive you insane.
umm... asshole.

Wow, that is pretty harsh especially coming from the man who wrote Episodes 1 through 3.
Is this interview actually credible? It looks made up to me. Like someone was writing it from pure fiction rather than an actual interview. I don't want to brand someone with something they didn't even said.
But if Lucas did say this well then...We'll have to do something about that.

Honestly, I USED to enjoy the first three SW. But I've really had a distaste for it since all of the marketing hype and whatnot. It's become a huge name that's slapped around (Burger King) to make millions.
After reading that, I knew I already hated Lucas, but now I hate him even more. Lucas wouldn't know good writing, character development and intelligent dialog if it slapped him in the face.
George Lucas

I will no longer be purchasing anything with your name attached to it--you're dead to me, please burn in hell, now and forever more.
Find my words harsh? What can I say? I'm a prick, espessially when someone insults something I hold dear and they compair it to the drivel that they enjoy.

If that is true are we supposed to look on that as a good thing or a bad thing?
Serenity was hailed as what the Star Wars trilogy was and Episodes I-III weren't. (Obviously this is on a level deeper than such superficial things as aliens.) And along those lines the original Trilogy, when compared to modern day movies, is bargain bin trash.
What destroyed the prequels, in my opinion, was that they tried so hard to be flashy, they lost everything, when they went for impressive effects over characters. But the characters were all that ever mattered, when you grabbed a cast of unknowns and gave them a good story it was greatness, but that was a long time ago, Lucas lost touch with that.
Give me the bargain bin trash I say, at least it's real, it doesn't have enough of a budget not to be.

I think this particular part of the interview absolutely HAS to be a hack or crack job. In other words, it looks to me as though that particular answer may have been hacked by someone. It just doesn't match the tone of all the other answers he gave.
Especially the typos ( " . . . The best way to judge how COULD science fiction films are . . . " )?
I really don't see how there's any way that Lucas actually said these words.

Actually, on second thought, I think the ENTIRE interview is fake. I think it's someone's attempt at uber-sarcasm as a form of humor.
I'll take Serenity any day over Star Wars and I can't stand those three prequels, but to be fair -- there's no way that's Lucas speaking.

There are a couple Petitions out there trying to dismantle the site. The site is one big lie, so the odds that the "douche bag" of a webmaster actually getting an interview with lucas is slim to none. Yeah, as a refugee SW fan, let me say that Supershadow is a total fraud. He claims to be Lucas's best friend and that he spends his days at Skywalker Ranch editing the films. He's a total crackpot. Every few weeks the message boards would get some poor uninformed newbie who didn't know any better spouting some trash about "Kane Skywalker" or some such and someone would explain (usually not very politely, another reason why the 'verse is so much better than the Galaxy Far, Far Away) that Supershadow's dubious credibility to him.
Honestly, anything you find on that site is complete and utter bilge.

It's ludicrous, and frankly somewhat disturbing, that around half the posters in this topic seem to be at least considering the possibility that this is for real. Do you think so little of George Lucas?? No matter what you may think of him personally, no one in his position would be stupid enough to badmouth another sci-fi movie like that.
Also, as several people have pointed out, the entire website is clearly a joke.

Three minutes of reading various questions and answers left no doubt in mind that the interview is a fake piece of go-se.
"The best thing about Star Wars is that it doesn’t look like regular science fiction. The uniforms worn by Kirk and Picard in Star Trek look horrendous. The futuristic look you talk about is not the way to go. I want Star Wars to always remain timeless and classic. The designs have to be organic and not machine like. I think you don‘t understand what Star Wars is all about. I think we should leave this all up to SuperShadow. He has his finger on the pulse of Star Wars and he always makes the right decisions."
The ridiculousness of the whole thing is hi-larious.

I have been a big fan of Star Wars since I was a child but, Lucas' coments strike me as petty jealousy. When you look at why the early movies are better than the later ones and why we love Joss' work, it is the characters and dialogue.
Lucas has created (sometimes borrowed) a great world to tell his giant saga. Firefly is all about the characters and dialogue, something Lucas seems to have steadily forgotten how to do well as his career has gone on.

George Lucas, I have a question for you: In Attack of the Clones, on Kamino, when Obi-Wan, Lama-Su, and Taun-We are walking in that corridor, we see what looks like the bottom of the Star Trek Enterprise, is that where it came from?
George Lucas: No, the Enterprise of Star Trek did not originate on Kamino. The events of Attack of the Clones occurred approximately 170,000 years prior to the first, original Star Trek TV series. What happened is that I got permission from Paramount Pictures (the film studio that owns all rights to Star Trek) to let me use this design. I love ripping off the ideas of others so I can spend less time thinking about Star Wars. It saves me much time to borrow ideas so I can spend more time with my super model girlfriends. This George Lucas "interview" is so very, very fake... for so many reasons.
If it has prompted any extended arguments on IMdB, or admonishments against George Lucas, then I find this troubling... troubling because it means people can be duped so easily. Apparently, critical thinking is in short supply these days.
The Star Wars fanboy who wrote the "interview" probably wants to get George Lucas' attention, even if it means doing it in a negative way.

This is obviously drivel. It seems to me that in the land of Hollywood--most everyone seems to go out of their way to sucker up or put on a kinda show for everyone else. Meaning that if a particular director doesn't like something another puts out--I doubt you'd hear anything from first said director about it. If they like what the other has created--they'll go on and on about it. The consensus being that you never really know who may be on top of the game next--so don't cut your throat or burn your bridge. 'Everybody play nice'. Of course there are exeptions to this rule--those who seem to rattle the fences a bit--like our Joss. However, even Joss doesn't seem to strike out with too much venom--with him it's more implied and wrapped up in humor. I've seen interviews with Lucas as well--and he is much more professional in approach than the 'bozo' on this site.

I agree, we know it is a fake. In regards to people being down on 1,2,3 it is becuase it lacked the chemistry between the characters that 4,5 and had, which is actually one of the things I love so much about Firefly/Serenity.

I completely agree, this interview is bull crap.
Oh, and episodes 1,2, and three 3 were just not as good as 4,5,and 6. The latter had the most interesting characters and a wonderful story to boot. 1,2,and 3 were just oversaturated with special effects and such that just took away from the story and characters.
That's why I believe Serenity is such a better movie than the recent Star Wars films. Because it was made on a lower budget, the special effects weren't used as much, which didn't detract from the characters or the story line. It's kind of ironic actually. A super special effects driven movie who's story is not so great does exceptionally well at the box office. On the other hand, the movie that is done well and has a more compelling story and group of characters does not do as well as the other movie.
Sometimes, I wish people would open their eyes and take a look at what their watching. Not everything is how it appears.

Second, Obi-Wan circumvented Anakin’s progress towards greatness. Third, Anakin wanted a kind of unlimited power that the light side could not offer. These three factors allowed Sidious to trick Anakin into joining the dark side. If the Jedi had acknowledged Anakin as the best Jedi ever, had gotten Obi-Wan off Anakin’s back and allowed Anakin to do whatever he pleased, then the fall of the Jedi and Old Republic at the hands of the Sith probably wouldn’t have occurred.
Obi-Wan was on the defensive at Mustafar because he didn’t really believe he needed to kill Anakin. Obi-Wan loved Anakin like a brother. Obi-Wan was essentially the only father Anakin ever knew. Obi-Wan held on to the belief that Anakin could be turned back to the good. The only reason Obi-Wan defeated Anakin was because Anakin gave Obi-Wan no other choice. "

That will surely drive you insane.
umm... asshole.
from what i can tell, most of the stuff on the site is really just fan site stuff, i doubt George Lucas ever even talked ot the people on the site.

Okay, I can't stand it any longer. Anyone who is still not sure if the interview is for real or not, read it, all of it. It's very obviously satire. I think the guy who wrote it is feeling very jaded toward GL, like so many here, and is making fun of his self-important attitude. GL is gracious, but at the same time, he has bought into his own legend just a little too much. The "interview" is a satire about just that. I think it is supposed to represent what GL would like to be able to say. It's actually pretty funny if you read in that light. It's kind of like "A Modest Proposal", which suggested that the way to get rid of the poverty stricken is to...eat them. Some people even took that little bit of satire seriously. It's almost like Orson Welles broadcast of "War of the Worlds". When you write satire, you almost have to include a little disclaimer - This is only a satire. Any similiarities to real events is...meant as a joke.

Jonathan Swift wrote that little essay in 1729. Anyone not familiar with it, can read it online at http://art-bin.com/art/omodest.html .
I remember having to read that in English class. Even then some of the students thought it was supposed to be taken seriously, and told the teacher how much they disliked it.

Dear Mr. Lucas,
$10? I fear you are mistaken. FireFly is a lot 'cheaper' than that: it's price-less.
Please get back to us when Star Wars reaches that level.
Sincerely,
(Now, a quick word for those in this thread who think they're more fortunate than the less fortunate: this is not anger; this is irony.)

Greetings, I am a Starwars fan and I come in peace. I am known as one of the main enemies of Supershadow, to him I am known as Zoomlord and Darth Zoom, I belong to an anti-Shadow group known as Shadowscourge.
As some of you may know now Supershadow is a person known as Mickey Suttle. He is a cabinet maker from North Carolina, he is not and never will be an employee of Lucafilm.
His site is not "a joke", he is a crazed fan who has decieved thousands since 1999 and believes in his own head that many of his claims are true.
He even posts pictures he steals from porn sites and the likes of and claims they are his girlfriends.
Do not believe any of his claims or so called quotes from George Lucas.
For more "entertainment" from Supershadow go to Myspace.com/super_shadow. Thank you for your time, I thought Serenity was a great movie and I hope the franchise continues to grow- Zoomlord.

Hans Solo, er, Harrison Ford was on Jay Leno last night. He said he's now a jet pilot, like that black Clingon on Star Trek. That's cool that the pilot of Mellenium Falcon can actual fly in real life. But he looked REALLY old.

In case you are not already familiar with the site Supershadow is a fraud which has been sued by LucasFilm multiple times and also has often claimed to have Episode VII-IX scripts.

I have heard many rumors about Lucas being a real asshole, now I believe it!
I also sense a bit of jealousy, lucas knows most people did not like the last three films he made (SW 4-6), they only made money because of the name Star Wars..lol..
Firefly/Serenity IS the best sci-fi story since the first and second Star Wars films, hands down!
Hey Lucas, I wont be buying a damn thing from you

I really hate George Lucas. I'm highly offended by the fact that he makes fun of people with mental disabilities, such as autism. I also find it insulting that he says stuff life "Thank you losers for buying all of my worthless stuff so that I can keep all my hot girlfriends." I do find it strange that he only says stuff like that on his best friends Supershadow's website, or that it hasn't become common knowledge after all these years. You would think the tabloids would report these things! Especially that he didn't even write his own movies (Supershadow did ALL the work).
God bless America

This man is an ASSHOLE. Does he not know that Serenity was a million times better than any of the prequels! Just because Revenge of the Sith made more money doesn't mean it was a better film.

Really guys, is it so hard to work out? You guys are too gullible. Apparently you didn't read the wikipedia article or listen to what I said about Supershadow.
He is a fake. He first popped in 1999 shortly before the release of Episode I and posted what he said was the Episode I script. Hundreds believed him and rushed to it. When Phantom Menace came out his script turned out to be merely a combination of lines from the trailer and some stuff he made up. The same thing happened with Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.
He is a universally despised figure amongst the Star Wars community and those few fans who believe him send him email wanting to talk with George Lucas. Of course he responds, claiming to be George Lucas. This explains many of the discrepencies between what he says and what Lucas says.
Example:
Supershadow claims the EU (books, games, comics, and such) are not canon whereas Lucas has actually stated they are. He also claims he was in ROTS and even listed his cameo. When Star Wars fans checked the cameo they discovered it was not listed by his name (Mikey Suttle) or under the alias Supershadowe claimed it would be (Shadow). Instead it was listed as a completely different actor and a different character name than what Supershadow claimed.
Face it, you've been had. While Lucas sure as hell isn't an angel he's not the asshole this fraud makes him out to be. Supershadow is the villain here.

I wouldn't call him a villain. He's a great satirist and if he can get people to believe his ludicrously obvious jokes, all the better. I would say the villain is human nature...bum bum BUMMMM

Villain is a harsh term, but I was a bit upset about the whole thing being that I both love Firefly and Star Wars. But I'm not sure satirist is a good word either. He isn't trying to send a message, he's deliberately misleading people for the fun of it, nothing less. Lucasfilm actually tried to take him offline at one point but failed due to free speech laws.

Okay, those people who are still believing this is real, WAKE UP AND SEE THE WHOLE PICTURE. Just reading the so called interview's supposedly by GL should prove what a fake this is. I mean read it. The answers sound like a 5 year old boy typed it up. I've seen plenty of interviews by Lucas and at every one he was gracious, well spoken, and actually kind to his fans. Now I agree that somewhere he substituted style over substance in the latest pics, but by no means would he diss and s*#t on someone elses movie. Lord, if that was the case then it would have been far more advertised than it has been. Nothing he does goes unoticed. Just READ the comments made supposedly by him. They were so obviously written by this Supernut. The man either has delutions of grandeur, is a rabid (check stalking) fan of GL's, or has stopped taking his special pills. I'll go with all of the above.
Seriously people, give GL some credit. Do you think he'd put himself in the position to slit his own throat? You know when I'll believe this comment is real? When I hear Joss tell us that it is. And since I've not heard him complain or ask for support from his fanbase, I'm going with the majority (and my own common sense) and say this Supernut needs to be removed for Firefly and Star Wars fans sakes. The man is making both fanclubs look bad. *Sheesh*
If I'm a bitch, then life just got interesting.

There's way to many people here trying to denegrate Star Wars because of their love for Firefly. Why can't you like both? Well Thought out comparison of the two universe is healthy, while name calling and profanity is just downright wrong.
From Joss' mouth, I've only heard him speak great things of Lucas and the Star Wars Universe. Why, he even tends to pepper some of his dialoque with Star Wars references (i.e. like the Episode I line Xander butchers in 4X01 of Buffy.)
To me, Joss has always tried to compare this little show to the Star Trek universe, only I never really see that debate on the boards alot.
