Give me one good reason why you should all live...just one good reason.

The Powers that be has granted me ONE wish, so now I have the ultimate power to eradicate you vermin, but the catch is, if one person can come up with a good argument why you should all live, I have to back off.

My finger is hovering near the pretty red button of absolute destruction, which on of you can prevent it, or is this another thread down the toilet of life?

Why should humanity live?
What good is it?

So far I am liking what I'm hearing here. My hand is hovering menacingly over the button of absolute destruction for humanity here. Personally, I say kill them all, but thats me.

I'm drunk and mad right now.

anger is useless when you think about it.

Don't listen to him, River Tam's a fictional character in a T.V. show that we all love but has been canceled and is never going to come back because the media is controlled by money grubbing assholes who want a wider range of un-dedicated zombies instead of a demographically smaller but much more dedicated fanbase! You must punish them all by destroying humanity and all posessive creations that they covet so dearly along with it! Destruction is the only answer, take no prisoners while spilling the blood of man, JIHAD!

... River Tam

Perhaps you thought I was kidding. I was not.

Just the other day, I tried to explain this. In Bushwhacked, River is gazing at the stars, marveling at the wonder of it all, like a child. A girl that can't not feel, feels it all. And what she sees is beauty. How awesome is that! With what she's gone through, you'd expect her outlook on the Verse to be a tad grim. Instead, she beams, from ear to ear, truly lost in the Majesty of it all.

What powerful message! That's the signal you cannot stop. And when it reaches you, it touches you. And suddenly you want to hold! Simply that, to hold the line! And you don't even know what line exactly. But you know you want to hold it, for her. For ever.

The world, when you're in Love, is supposed to look better; the clouds allegedly fluffier, the sun a little brighter. Why, that's all tzao gao! Because the world, with River Tam in it, is still a pretty go-se-ty place; except now, because of her, I want to make it a better one. She brings me hope and reason. Nowadays, when I wake in the morning, I want to wake up the in morning. When it's pouring, I bid the sun to come and do his shiny work; and where there's fire, I call for the rain again. Hope makes better worlds.

So, I humbly ask you: because of River Tam, please hold off on pressing that smite button. We can win this!

Gee, now you almost got me depressed, too. :(

I really like a little hope, better, though. Which is just what I'm trying to say here: find a bit of hope, or a symbol of that hope for you, and hang on to that. Hold!

I can be cynical, too; I choose not to. We deserve a chance. And if there is still one thing in this world that gives you hope, then I'd say: let us live. As simple as that. For me that symbol is River Tam. Perhaps you no longer perceive such reason, or none strong enough. Only you know, of course. But I'm still going with hope; makes me happier; makes me, well, hopeful.

Could you possibly get a move on with this thing? There's over a foot of snow on the ground, I'm stuck at work, and I have no clue how it's going to work out when I get off. It'd be a whole lot easier just not having to deal with it. Not to mention, this Asarian dude's way too cheery, we need a little bit of rapture to darken his day. Then I'll be happy... happy that someone else is miserable... damn, that's so pathetic, but it's kind of like my version of TV.

Watch Firefly, that's what good humanity is.

If you can not understand how that extends beyond fiction than I can not help you there because if that can't make you see the connection to reality letters on a screen have no chance.

Words are abstract symbols, total absurdity only made real by agreement, they'll never matter as much as any one person, fictional or otherwise.

Nah.

Summer Glau is a class actress;
River Tam is a class act.

Big difference; huge!

And the world will see more Summer Glaus. But I will not care for them. But there will only ever be one River Tam. And I will die alone, loving her alone.

But can we maybe vote on the whole murdering people issue? I'd like to keep them both, please. :)

That is reason enough to not push the button, but the possibility of more Mal in his tight pants cinches it as far as I'm concerned.

I suggest you have some breakfast, re-view Firefly or/and Serenity and rethink this thing.

But there's gotta be some middle ground here. Let's assume somebody's carrying a bullet for us right now and we don't even know it. Can we then do it the Tracey way, and die of old age before it finds us? It has both; it has the dying; and it has the waiting. Call me chipper, but I like it that way. :)

Oh, HELL no! I don't want to do the "dies of old age" thing! If it's gonna happen, I'd rather it be quick and relatively painless.

I don't wanna see it coming.

Jayne says, "My kinda life don't last long, Preacher." I agree wholeheartedly there. That's my kinda life!

Just think: if someone pushes a button, it's not like you'd notice. One minute, alive and kickin. Next minute, crispy critter.

No pain. No worry. No suffering old age and the deterioration of your body. You didn't even see it coming.

Now, who DOESN'T think that sounds good?

Here I sit with a steaming mug of coffee in hand, and supporting the world's first white wine hangover....silly me. Who the hell gets drunk on white wine?

Anyway, I got on this forum and came right to this thread because the title was so compelling. It turns out that I am the author of this particular thread! I don't even remember being on the computer last night. This is a grave sign that I should never drink, and post on forums even though I do agree with the thread title.

Why should humanity exist? Personally, I dont see any reason for it to exist, but since I have no ultimate weapon of absolute destruction, and no pretty red button to push to set it off, I really just need to STFU and sit the hell down.

And the guy who called me an attention whore. Anyone who posts on any forum anywhere is an attention whore up to a certain point including yourself being an attention whore by calling me an attention whore, so get a clue.

Anyhow, I need another cup of coffee and then I'm taking my hungover self, and I'm gonna head over to the Battlestar Galactica board/forum, and argue about last Fridays episode.

Hangovers should be outlawed.

ok, gross racism no, I'd go back and amend that one but then your reply would make no sense. It likely he didn't even think about what he was typing and meant nothing by it. But there is no way that you can say his words were more accurate.

Muslim and Islamic people are NOT the ones holding the bombs. Islam, just like Christianity and all the other belief systems, actively condems violence (mind you, never read the books, couldn't do an accurate breakdown, this is what my muslim friends have told me) And theres no way in hell you can blame the actions of the few twisted nutcases on the thousands who live and die peacefully like everyone else.

And that kind of woolly thinking is to blame for lots of problems, which is why I made an issue of it. It's that sort of lack of definition that gets Paediatricians' hounded out of their homes and attacked when a child is found dead.

Its kind of a personal issue, a mosque was bombed recently in my area by people who didn't recognise the difference between the religion and the extremists.

I mean by the same token, he could have said 'are you Christian or something?' There've been Catholics killing Protestants and vice versa in Northern Ireland for god knows how many decades.
Blowing the crap out of other people has nothing to do with religion or nationality, and everything to do with madness and hate, so 'political and religious extremists' is way more accurate.

And like I said, i'm in a lot of pain at the moment and not in the mood to tolerate things I would normally let slide.

I apologise to everyone for making you read this stuff, but I think it had to be pointed out.

Yes, I fully accept that I am an attention seeking whore. But first and foremost, I'm a BDH whore. So no blowing up the planet with out my say so, Nathan is way to precious!

Um...in case you couldn't tell by my signature line, I'm being a smart a$$. Very little that comes out of my brain is serious.

I assumed the original thread-starter was just drunk and bitter and I had no problem stirring the pot and playing a little Devil's advocate. Maybe not the brightest move on my part, but who takes this stuff seriously?

Did anyone really think the Powers That Be gave one person -- a drunk person, I might add -- a button to push to end all humanity?

Let's not be so serious, folks. That's how jihads and genocides happen in the first place. Might as well laugh while we're alive 'cause we sure as heck won't be doing it dead.

Aw thank you! It good to know that i'm not the only one who thinks there s a difference.

This thread is kinda like when you get really pissed (um, drunk for the none English) and text an ex propositioning them. Go on, own up. How many people have done that?

I am glad to say i've never propositioned an ex (theres always a very good reason why I break up with them, so...) but I have phoned one and started rambling crap at them. I do have one friend who we have to confiscate her phone on entering the pub.

It quite hi-larious some of the things i've seen people do under the influence. (dry-humping an apple tree being the most, um, memorable visual)

I've stolen Road cones and Road signs, but like the drunken Monkey ninja that I am I have never been caught, so no embarrassment. Though Friday last week I did meet two Canadian Women in a bar out in London and destroyed any chance I had with them by pronouncing Canada as "Canadeeaa", which considering it was midnight and I'd been drinking since 2:30 was quite understandable...

I think the most embarrassing thing was when I propositioned (in quite a classy way I might add) a girl I liked, and she turned me down (there’s more too it...) something I wouldn't of done had I been sober cause I'd of realised she would have turned me down (hey she had met me...)

aww.

I've made it a rule never to ask guys out sober.
I did it once when I was fourteen and have vowed never to do it again.

The most recent embaressing drunk moment was new years, I'd met two other Firefly fans at the party, and we went out to set off a load of fireworks in a nearby field, and got yelled at for shouting 'ooooh, shiny..' and 'oh look at the pretties' repeatedly at the top of our lungs. Quite tame compared I suppose.

Hey, ShadowChild, :)

On the one hand I'd have to agree with Asa too (oh, wait, gorammit, that's me! lol). And as for the destructive side, I dunno, I love River; and I love to talk about River; and I love to be with people who love River; and I love to be with people who love to talk about River. :)

And I just found a particular person here today who made me feel, well, like I hope they don't push that button! :) So, let's don't, and say we did; in fact, let's not even say we did.

Oh man! I'm in such a River mood, like you wouldn't believe it. :) Okay, just to rip off Yeats a spell,

Here’s a reason, what right does any human have to decide the fate of another, let alone what right does any human have to decide the fate of the entire species?

Here’s something, if we're worthy of life, as a species, we shall survive, if not we'll destroy ourselves. We're already on that path, so let it take it's course, we'll either realise our mistake and evolve, or we'll destroy ourselves for the bottom line, either way, we'll know the truth...

I can't disagree with much of what you say, and I don't want to try and 'shoot you down' 'cos you seem a nice person and your motives are good.

I totally agree - Islam is not an inherrently violent religion. As you say, none of them really are if you go by 'the book'. And the vast majority of muslims you meet will be decent, respectable people not entirely consumed by madness and hate, especially if you look in western countries. I reckon I detest attacks upon mosques and the like as much as you do.

Thankfully we have lots of reasonable people in our society such as yourself who are well aware of these truths. What sometimes irks me (not as much as mosque bombings, but still) is how reasonable people with good motives strive to utterly vindicate the Islamic world as a whole.

I sincerely hope that I'm not inciting people to go and blow up the decent, respectable people in the local mosque, but I do believe that the pervading atmosphere of hate towards the west in the Islamic world is the starting point for the extremism. I can't claim to be that knowledgeable about what they preach in mosques the world over, but there is I believe an unreasonable antipathy towards the west that stems more from an inferiority complex than supposed western aggression and persecution. Maybe they don't often preach violence, but they do seem to preach anger and contempt towards the west. This, in my mind leads to extremism (in extreme cases).

When someone like Jonus makes a quip associating Muslims with terrorism or violence I will probably not find it funny, but I don't think the stigma is an entirely unfair one as this kind of problem is unique to Islam in my view (I would have to argue wars and statistics in order to press this point so we may have to agree to disagree on it).

Ok, you can go with that plan, but with one proviso - one of those scientists will find a way to let men have babies, and the ghosts of all the desceased red-heads and brunettes will gather round to point and laugh while BB 'pumps out' his dozen.

KPO - yup fair point, be we will agree to disagree on the stigma thing, i'm not saying that there isn't one but thats its almost wholly created by the distortions of the media - theres all those thousands upon thousands of Muslim and Islamic people who condem the violence but they are not news worthy so the average man in the street only sees the (relitively few) extremists and rioters and shapes his opinion from that.

Even in a great Depression few if any starve, and even in a great war the number who suffer by it is vastly surpassed by the number who fatten on it and enjoy it. Thus my view of my country is predominantly tolerant and amiable. I do not believe in democracy, but I am perfectly willing to admit that it provides the only really amusing form of government ever endured by mankind" -HL Mencken

No!
Destroying the whole biosphere is not what I had in mind. I want humanity to suffer and suffer big. I want all major cities destroyed. I want all farm lands ravaged. I want all foodstuff contaminated, and I want all animal life to die. I want at least 97% of the human population dead by nuclear or biological means, and I want the remaining 3% to suffer...suffer to the point where the angels shall weep.

I want the remaining humans fighting over rats for food, I want cannabalsim to be rampant. I want the very soul of humanity to despair. I want nothing but dust in the mouths of the survivors.

Humanity is not fit to exist. Everytime I go out of my home and get a "taste" of human existance,I am always convinced right there that humanity needs to go, has to go. It is a cruel, mean, evil thing that simply needs to die. It's so called goodness is seriously out-stripped by its capacity for complete evil.

I stayed home from work today because I simply cannot deal with the monsters called human beings.

Some person here said that he's tired of people who's lives are screwed up, so they want to take their anger out on the innocent, decent society (What decent society is that?) well, I have news for you, my life is by the so-called civilized world, is a good life. I make more money than I really should be making. I have 3 houses, 4 cars and I belong to several prestigous country clubs, so financially, my life is ideal. I have no enemies, no debts, and I could up and decide that I need a vacation right now, and go touring around the world; I have money and freedom.

But screw all of that. The human race needs to go, and if I DID have the means to end the planet....by the god's I would in a second, so tonight, all you relgious types better get on your knees, and thank your god's that I don't have the power of global destruction in my hands.

Have you contemplated that suicide might be the easier option? :)

100& relief from all stupid humans.

0% effort in killing them.

0% boredom and disgust afterwards.

If you're still looking for good sides to humanity: only humans can make ice cream. I consider that a serious upside.

Well, it was a little mushy. Maybe not to the point of suffering to the last breath, but pretty close.

Nothin' worse than bad cornbread.

Suicide? Yes, I think of it often, but thinking about it is much different than actually doing it. I rather be in orbit, in a spaceship watching humanity get what it deserves...nuked into the ashes without mercy.

If you destroy humanity you destroy Joss Whedon and there is no coming back from that.

Plus the fact that a great many people are living in there own version of hell and if you destroy them they'd probably appreciate it. Kinda wrecks your point.

Dark Angel, Firefly, Buffy, Angel, Enterprise, Farscape... anything else you'd like to cancel?

River, please do sign this, should you begin to seriously contemplate that whole suicide option.

I River herby declare it my intention that upon the occaision of my death I will leave my three houses, four cars, country club subscriptions, life insurance payouts and all contained therein, to the fine people at Fireflyfans.net. To be used solely for the purpose of financing that site in its continued mission of providing respite from the Firefly-free world, as well as amusing and informing its inhabitants.
I do however leave some of my boundless piles of cashy money to pay of the debts crippling FFFans less fortunate in financial matters than my self, but far outstripping me in the ability to Think Positive.
I feel that this would be infinitly more useful than blowing the entire planet to kingdom fucking come.

Alternatively, you can dump the sodding country clubs, sell one or two of the houses and at least two of the cars, use the money to fly to africa or wherever and start digging wells and building irrigation systems, outfitting hospitals and orphanages.
I.e use all of the material riches you are incredibly fortunate to posess in order to benefit people who still seem to give a crap about the planet they inhabit, who are grateful for every single second of experience they get, because its pretty much all they get. God even just tour the globe, benefiting no-one but your self and taking a really hard look at this little planet you are so casually dismissing because of one species of animal that doesn't happen to be to your taste. Shit, just even take out a subscription to National Geographic. Instead of sitting round a pool in a country club sipping down chemicals and glaring at all the over paid, overstuffed, souless, pampered idiots who apparently frequent the places you hang around a lot of the time.

You hate the people you are forced to come into contact with, but unlike many here you can at least change the people. And if after you've travelled the globe and are still so closed off and bad tempered that you cant find anyone you like, then no, you still don't get to blow up the planet. Because the people who actually live on this rock don't want you too.

Jonus, yes, I realise now that it was probably a joke, but my sense of humor was on holiday yesterday. 'parently still is.

**yes, I realise full well that this could all just be another big joke. But describing a list of wants that nasty and graphic goes way beyond any brand of humor I have ever known before. Its not funny, save it for when a serial killers convention comes to town.

What are you talking about? I was a volunteer in Green peace for 8 years when I was younger. I have traveled all over this gorram planet, and half those places I traveled to were hell holes devoid of anything good. I pitched in like a good girl and gave a hand in hope of giving others a better chance at a future. I have helped many people, and families in my time, but those were the days when I was an idealist. Those were the days when I had hope for humanity. Those were the days when I believed that there was something worth saving in humans. I used to LOVE people, but no more; I fucking woke up. Humanity is an enemy to be destroyed. It's just that simple.

The one thing human beings are perfect at is hurting, and killing. We are a mean-spirited species. We are mean starting from being children in the school yard, and we carry that meaness into our adulthood.

You can learn everything about the human animal just by observing children in a school yard. We are the masters of destruction. People are evil, just plain evil. And I need to escape from them.

BTW I signed your stupid letter, so if I get into a foul enough mood and decide to do myself in, you can have all that I own... knock yourself out.

Like a fire sale, don'cha think?

It's of interest to me how people who don't bat an eye at genocide have a problem nuking puppies. Now, make this a planet full of spiders and scorpions, and no one would have a single problem with the "kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out" mentality.

Ponderous, man. Ponderous.

Cute little puppies should be the 1st casualties of my crusade against humanity, and life in general. They should be the 1st ones up against the wall.

So far, not one of you have come up with any good reason why humanity should live....not one of you, though, I'm really not surprised. Its hard defending a species that are natural born killers.

Yes, you are correct. It is cruel, and it is mean. I want revenge. I too have become the monster, but that is to be expected. I never said I was innocent. I have spent my life being the "good girl" but now I realize that I must become just as mean and evil as all of humanity. In order to defeat evil, you must become evil.

What's the definition of "full"? I mean, is it end to end full, or could the scorpions all be kept in one place? If it's the latter, and as long as they are all kept happy and as far away from me as possible, then I'd volunteer to take the scorpions.

Unless someone else wants them?

I need no psychatrist, nor am I seeking one at this time because there is no need for one.

BTW, I read one of your posts in this thread where you claimed I was stalking you? Now why on earth would I do such a thing? What would make you so special that I would take time out of my life to stalk you? Is this male ego in action again?

I too had good in me till several years ago. Reavers are Buddhists compared to me. End it all, and take everything with you... PUSH THE BUTTON!
I also have money and don't have to work. I just can't stand the human race anymore.. I'm there for you if can't make that final effort and need help pressing down on the button.
But if you believe that someone will make an argument and convince you that you shouldn't destroy all life then add this one thing to that argument.

I like the way you think; you're my kind of stupid. --- I'll make you dinner.
