A less expensive browncoat

I've seen a lot of people talking about buying an actual browncoat but the replicas are so damn expensive. For some reason I received a catalog from this company that makes a lot of frontier style clothing. Can't speak to the quality because I've never purchased anything here but the price may be worth the risk. If anyone is interested here is their website:

Less expensive is good. What item were you looking at that said "browncoat" to you? I see a black leather duster, but it's not very close.
Thanks for posting!

Just do a search on "duster". The one on the top left of the page just screams "browncoat".

With some dark brown suedecloth or fake leather, one could add cuff turnbacks.

You know, even the pants at the bottom of the page are similar to Mal's. The suspenders, though are bit different but could be, in theory, modified appropriately to make a close approximation to his standard getup.
Sounds like a nice little project...

I think this is closer by far than the leather duster,

It's cotton, but the collar and cuffs are closer to an original Browncoat.

The coat is fairly close. You would just need to take the hem up about a foot, since the browncoat was a 3/4 lenght coat, not full length.
As for the pants, the closest match out there are the frontier pants at Wild West mercantile. Shawna (aka, the costume designer) asked me where I got mine because they were just like the ones she used. You just need to add the piping on the sides.

Been seeing a few people post about their actual browncoats lately and it finally spurred me into buying one for myself. I bought the one from sportsmansguide for $60. Not a bad coat for that price. The color is a little lighter than I expected but it is brown, not to be confused with tan or beige. My only mistake was I ordered it maybe one size too big. Since it is made of cotton I'm thinking there will be some shrinkage upon the first washing so it should turn out okay.

That's good to hear because I also ordered one from that site a while back (haven't got it yet, had to order through a friend as that site doesn't do international shipping - and they've just posted it over to me, so just a matter of time now...). So I guess I'm being greedy because that'll give me two Browncoats (lol) but one is my smart suede one that I got for my birthday - and this one (from the sportsmanguide) I plan to modify (well, have modified - I'm hopless at such things) and maybe get some of those cool Firefly patches for it.
- Shiny. Let's be bad guys.
