Firefly Pets?

I was wondering if anyone has named pets (or maybe children) after characters in Firefly. (Or if it's only me!)

I rescued a stray cat (male) back in October and he is Jayne. (I also have 4 other cats, named after various flowers and astronomical features).

We just adopted a big dog last week from the shelter and my husband named him Hoban (in honor of his favorite Firefly character.) He is 70 pounds of Irish Wolfhound mutt and has the sweetest personality.

So....anyone else?

I don't have any pets, or children for that matter, neing 15 and all. If I had been into Buffy and Firefly, I probably owuld have fought to get my sister to be named Buffy or WIllow or Kaylee or something.

Well, it's not really a pet...but my friend gave me a flamingo purse. It's like a stuffy with with a zipper and a little hole for your stuff.

I decided to call it Fanty since "mingo" was already in the name of the animal.

Ya, I'm probably crazy, but o well.

Serenity will fly again.

there is currently an appeal going in our musuem to raise funds to extend our ant colonies home. £5 to sponsor an ant and you can name it anything you like.

If I had £50 we'd have soldier ants called Mal Zoe, Jayne and River, Worker ants called Simon Kaylee, Wash, Inara and Book and I'd petition the nice guy up there to call the Queen ant Serenity.

but even if its not offical, little ant-y mal is running around up there already. He's the one thats constantly trying to escape the colony and go explore the museum.

I have a ginger cat named Hoban Washburn, or Wash for short. We've had him since he was born, and he's nearly two now.

Everyone who meets him asks why he's called Wash and are disappointed to find out it's after a TV show character. My Vet has imagined we called him "Wash" because he kept sleeping in the washing basket.

Sadly, no one has yet set "Hey, is he named after Wash in Firefly/Serenity".

That is totally why we are calling our dog Hoban instead of Wash although his full name is, obviously, Hoban Washburn!

Our vet asked about his name and now he is going to rent the Firefly disks and check out the show. We may have a new Browncoat in the making!

Speaking of FireFly pets, does anyone else think they couldve had some in the movie/series? No more cows obviously, but maybe somethign small...a canary or something. ^_^ Just an animal lovers thoughts...

I vote for cats.....they can get all the space rats out of the hidey-holes in a Firefly class ship. A litter box trained pet would be a neccessity on a ship as well. Cat...definately cat.

Gekkos. I noticed that Serenity had roaches inside the floor/bulkhead, and gekkos eat lots of roaches.

I don't have any pets, but so far, my car's named Hoburne"Wash" Washborne, my laptop's name is Jayne, and my PC is Zoe (like a motherfuting tank!)

I have this weird feeling that I'd end up naming my future pets after Buffy characters before Firefly O_o;;

I don't - but my brother has a horse they got recently and called it Zoe. Imagine my surprise when I bought them Serenity for Christmas thinking they'd loved it and he and his wife told me how much they hated Firefly! Heathens...

Of course they hate everything I buy for them and feel very free to tell me about it so I figured at least this year if they were gonna hate what I bought anyways - I'd at least let us benefit from it! Who know - maybe he'll watch the movie (without whatsherface around) and I'll convert him yet. He loves Buffy so I don't get it. Mine is a strange and unusual family. I think he's soaks his brains in pickle brine at night. It's the only thing I can think of.

I have two male black hooded rats - and you guessed it, they are called Fanty and Mingo :)

They are difficult to tell apart - Fanty has a very small black patch of fur at the base of his tail.

Mingo is very bossy and always pushes Fanty to the side when it's 'treat time' and Fanty is more amenable to cuddles...

Have two dogs that were acquired before I became a browncoat so no firefly themed names - yet
I seem to prefer scruffy type dogs so new one would be Jayne, or Hero of Canton (that could also be it's registered name and I could shorten it to Hero and call him jayne when really pissed!!)

I like the idea of ferrets and rats being fanty and mingo!! Ferrets could also be serenity pets.

With my years of cat-box and birdcage experience, I can't erase the ugly picture which forms when I think of Serenity in her tailspin if there were a cat -- or any kind of pet besides maybe a gecko -- aboard.

I don't have a pet named after a Firefly character yet because I became a Browncoat late in the game. After rewatching every single episode this past week I know my next pet will sport a name from the show for sure! Now I just have to figure out which name. Of course, it will have to do with the pet's personality and looks. I would love to have a female cat named River though, or a dirty old mut named Jayne. :D

All my pets at this point have names from Buffy and LOST. We have Xander the Rat, Locke the cat, and Kate/ Sawyer my two turtles. :)

I have this computer that one second is normal and the next second decides to go crazy so I gave it the appropriate name of Albatross. I'm also thinking of naming my child (which I've sworn never to have)Inara. I find that to be a beautiful name.

And I'm definitely going to name a pet Wash or Mal depending on it's personality. If it's bold Mal and if it's silly Wash.

I remember reading a thread from someone who named her daughter Kaylee. Might even have been Kaylee Jayne, I don't remember becuase it was a bit ago.
I personally don't have anything with names from the verse because I haven't gotten anything that needs naming since I became a browncoat. After my current cat, which I've had the last 13+ years, I'm not sure I want another pet, but you can bet that the next car I buy will be named "River", esspecially if I can manage a zippy little number in green or blue. But if I end up with another big brown car (like my very first car, some five years ago) I will call it "Mal" or "Zoe". Might be awhile before I get a new car, though. Maybe I can get a paint job on my current one and change it's name! (It is currently named "Canbe" from a character in a little book called The Phantom Tollbooth) We shall see. Light green or blue, re-christened River... yeah, that'd be nice.

We're getting chickens at my mom's house this spring for eggs. I'm naming mine Kaylee, since she'll never get any action 'cause the eggs are for eating.

I thought it was pretty clever.

I thought about naming all the chickens after the characters, but that one seemed to fit best (especially since we're not getting any roosters). Maybe if one is badass and fights a lot I'll name it Zoe.

We have wild cats on the Mosque property and I've managed to 'rescue' two kittens and named them Inara and Kaylee. Will post a pic if I can so you can see why. Sooooo Cuuuuute! (10 points for anyone who gets THAT reference -- it's not FF/BDM)...

Well we have 4 cats. None of them are named after FF crew members but its a pretty sure bet that they had seen Serenity before we did. Why?
Because I every time I walk outside I swear I hear them saying "Mal...Mal."

when we were thinking of names for my daughter (or son we didnt know at that time) I got to choose if she turned out to be a boy my choice was Malcolm Xavier Brauner, and when she came out a girl i lobbied to no avail for Kaylee Marie Brauner. ( i was shot down and she ended up Kaleena Elizabeth Brauner. Funny thing was, she was born a year before firefly. lol

A friend of mine recently bought a shiny blue fish, and after much debate, are calling it Jayne.

But wait there's more...I didn't say where they lived, did I?

Well, now, this new fish has another title as it happens. Yep, he's the Betta of Canton(MI)...a fish named Jayne.
