What do you all think of the season 2 finale? Heck of a place to leave us hanging..

Select to view spoiler:

I just cant believe the Adama's would let their Battlestars crew compliment be so compromised... sure let the rest of the fleet settle on the planet but the military guys would surely maintain combat rediness.

Not sure I like the one year jump in the story.. feels like we missed too much.

But DAMN I love that show!

I'm actually really excited about it, especially after listening to the poscast. I think that they will handle the change well. If they don't though, well, honestly -- I would rather them do something bold badly than watch the stories decline in quality as they do the same old thing worse and worse and worse, like so many other shows.

What I can't believe is...

Select to view spoiler:

Adam's mustache! Someone needs to shave that thing off!

And when they are done doing that, they can cut Starbucks hair and throw Lee in the gym. Fat Lee is funny, but not so good for the eye candy.

Tyrol & Cally! Finally. She carried such a torch... and she's so sweet. I was really happy with that development.

I loved Baltar crying when he saw his Six again in the... flesh, I guess.

I can't wait for a Laura/Adama reunion. They are my favorite "I want to see them in scenes together because they are both awesome beyond belief and I honest don't care whether that means that they are friends (though this is the best, especially when Laura laughs), enemies, lovers... whatever" couple in the 'verse.

I also enjoyed Brother Cattle. I really enjoy all the cylon characters, but his model definately has the best reaction to getting caught. :-)

So say... I was happy.

Without any JW on TV, BSG is the only thing that's "must see" to me. My only concern with the direction they are going is that it will turn in to a flashback fest alla "Lost". That would just suck!

That said, I also admire the writers/producers willingness to take big chances and will reward them with my viewership even if they do end up sucking for a while. I believe they have the talent to bring it back around. (Kinda like season 4 of Angel moving into season 5. )

Now if they could only get in some of the funny - that's what I miss most with the JW drought on television. Veronica Mars is pretty good but just not as compelling for me...

(sigh) Come back to the small screen, JW!

It was great that they came up with a end of season episode you couldn't see coming.

I liked it for the most part with a couple of exceptions:

Select to view spoiler:

I am not sure about the 1 year leap in time. Sure who wants to watch some boring episodes of the colonists setting up tent cities, but come on, surely there were stories to tell, character development to cover, relationships to build on. Maybe a leap of a month or two here or there, but a whole year?

I like Adama's mustache.

Fat Lee? What the heck is that about? He always seemed to be big on fitness & working out. I guess it is supposed to be another indicator of how lax the Colonial military has become with a year of nothing to do, but it seems he would have time to hit the gym.

Why would Adama let the battlestars get so depleted on crew that he can't launch a CAP or even get his ships to a combat ready status in a reasonable amount of time. Why even fly a defense fleet if they can't defend?

I did love Starbuck's new look and her line "Same thing we always do. We fight them 'til we can't anymore."

Of course the worst part is we have to wait until October now for new episodes. Ugh!

It was good stuff. Did not see that ending coming. Sucks that we've got to wait until October, but it begs the question of what will be occupying the 10 p.m. slot when the Stargates return in July? Hmm...I could surmise, but I won't get my hopes up...

I saw the ending coming. It seemed pretty transparent to me. Maybe I just watch too much sci fi & it was a plot device used too many times or something.

Just pissed about the whole October thing...

I want to kiss the writers and the actors...All of them!!!!

So many series drag crap out WAY TOO LONG to the point where you don't even care anymore. BSG's season ender totally drew me in, had my thoughts racing and kept me VERY entertained.

Baltar shows his true colors as the bad guy we love to hate.

As for the reason Galactic was in the shape it is in....remember...the military is ultimately controlled by the civilian authorities. Kind of reminded me of the state of the military during the Clinton years.

Yeah, who needs combat pay or VA benefits?

But I think that the depletion of the colonial fleet was the only natural course left. There is this big wide world where people are starting a new life. Down there is where their families are. When their tour of duty is up, what reasons did they have to reenlist? They had been told over and over by the Baltar administration that it is safe. And unless there is a good *reason* nobody would enlist in the now obsolete military. Nether Adama could stop the depletion of their forces. The civilian authorities had nothing to do with it. It was the people who abandoned the fleet.

Because I am an American. And what does an American want? Democracy?
Capitalism.
I want to sell out and settle down. For one day only, it's a blue light special on Aisle Three. My wormhole technology... and a free set of steak knives... for all the tea in China. And anything you can imagine to pay me... welcome to my cold war.

Couple of things:

1. Hated the leap in time, but BSG started skipping a few weeks each episode for the last couple ones (specifically after Apollo got blasted in the bar). This is the only time in my life where I'm actually cheering for a 'wake up and it was all a dream' or 'travel back in time to fix things' ending.

2. I really don't like Dualla and Apollo. It seemed to come out of nowhere midseason, and it meant they killed off Billy. I loved Billy!

3. The mustache... gotta go... seriously. (What if Mal all the sudden had a beard in the next movie?)

4. October?! What show has a nine month hiatus?!

I don't know. I still watch every week, but it seems to me the show's been going downhill for a while now. It moves too fast (character and relationship development), skips too much, and is too soap opera versus drama/ action.

I think that they thought they were safe they just started to feel safe,

Select to view spoiler:

and that the Battle Star Crews were less nessary and as for launching the Alert fighters they would just be killed by the Cylons any way so why risk the lives of pilots to try to save the people in an attempt that would more than just fail to get them off the world but get everyone killed in the process. So they choose to live and fight another day.

Did any one else notice that Adrimal Adama was wearing a wedding ring? Could he be married to Laura Roslin?

BSG has be one of the best shows on still on TV.

I believe a certain Time Lord and his TARDIS will be in that time slot, or some 1-hour slot on Fridays.

Unless they do 2 hours of Dr. Who every week, which is what they're staring off with this Friday.

I'm sure Moore did get some inspiration from Firefly. I recently watched a documentary about the making of Battlestar where Moore talked about how he was doing something totally new with the special effects and the camera work.. as if he was the first. Call me crazy but I reckon the unsteady cam and the out of focus space scenes etc have all been done before...where have I seen that done before.... Oh yeah FIREFLY!

But I still love Battlestar, its just a very close second to Firefly.

It irked me that Moore has never paid homage to Joss and Firefly when he clearly has stolen some of Joss's concepts..

It was definitely a great season finale...

Select to view spoiler:

I liked the leap in time - I felt like the show moved a little slow, so it was great that they shook things up like that.

I didn't like that they let the military go the way they did. It just didn't make sense. They know the cylons are out there looking for them, so why would they get so lax? I just don't get it.

I didn't notice Adama's wedding ring - very cool detail. I'm looking forward to that story.

And a heavy Apollo was kind of silly...

Overall, I really enjoyed it. Can't wait for October.

That finale is one of the reasons I love the show, and the Sci-Fi channel for the way they promote it. They don't push all the surprises on you during the promos. FOX or CBS (in the States) would have been all over the 1-year jump in the previews, trying to say "Look at how clever we are!".

And Baltar... his true colors come out, not because he's really evil, but he's self-serving and in power, so he does what he wants and to hell with everyone else. (And no, I'm not going to go political.)

I'm curious as to where they are going to go from here, though. But I'll be watching!

I loved the BSG S2 finale.

Select to view spoiler:

I thought the leap in time was brilliant. At first, it threw me for a loop cause they jumped forward a year and, therefore, there were a number of changes that I needed to process in the short period of time before the close of the episode. But I think it was a great move. Showing that everybody has become complacent. I believe that's why the one-year leap was necessary. People won't relax overnight. It would take awhile for everyone to settle into their daily routines and take on new roles and responsiblities and ultimately forget about the Cylons. Remember that they were led to believe that the Cylons were going to leave them alone, not only being told as much by one of the Cylons, but it was also demonstrated to Starbuck and her group during their rescue mission on Caprica when the Cylons pulled out. The Cylons totally lulled them into a false sense of security.

I really can't wait to see where we go from here. Not just with how the Adamas plan on cutting through the Cylons and getting their people off the planet and to safety, but also the little stories. What will come of the Six/Baltar reunion? Will the Cylons somehow discover that Sharon's baby is among them? How will Sharon react now that she's on the other side of the cell door, so to speak?

October seems so far away.

So how many people thought that when the preacher starts praying on Caprica and everybody takes their helmets off, they were all going to get shot in the head?

They kind of deserved it too. Why? First, they don't know the enemies not out there; they just can't see them. PLUS! Why did nobody question the preacher's (whose not in combat gear and fairly unruffled) presence? Think about it. From Starbuck's point of view, it's kind of understandable. He could have been with the football dudes and she just didn't notice him in all the shooting. But what about her boyfriend? He should know whose with his crew (especially since he knows the cyons look like us now). So if the guy's not with them, he must have been with Starbuck's crew. Except why would they bring a preacher and not even give him combat gear?

See that's the kind of gaping plot hole that really irks me. It would have been so COOL if they all take off their helmets and everybody gets shot except the main people and a few red shirts for later and they all get captured and have to escape or something.

Plus, they completely forgot about the farms of "thousands of pregnant ladies" and what's up with Starbuck's torso scar? Apparently that has had no lasting effect.

While this greatly bothered me too, I will say in the military's defense:

They didn't fall for it, Baltar did. Though I hated Adama turning into a pansy on what was clearly a military matter. Didn't they have an agreement on the seperation of powers?

Even though I'm starting to resent the way the show ended, I still shouldn't have to wait till October so Dr Who can be feisted on unsuspecting BSG fans who'll tune in in August only to be horribly disappointed!

I think the whole thing is a dream/premonition sequence...one of those "this is what will happen if Baltar is elected" flashes.

Next "season" they will end up going back to before the election, which will be a shame because the current path looks kind of interesting and fresh.

Well, it's not like they're sneaking it on people. They've been talking up Dr. Who's addition to the line-up for months, and have made it public when BSG will return. And there are plenty of people really looking foreward to Dr. Who (though I'm not one of them).

The Cylons are pretty easy to spot. Reflective metal doesn't blend with trees and plantlife.

Also, I believe the preacher was with Anders' group. When Starbuck and Anders met up, Anders mentioned that their base had been found and attacked. Most likely, they took in the preacher thinking that he wasn't a Cylon and the preacher gave away the location of their base.

Why doesn't the preacher have combat gear? Maybe they were too busy running from the Cylons to notice he wasn't fighting.

No one in the military would ever fall for that.

The military was in the habit of trusting Sharon on occasion. It's not a stretch to believe that, after a certain period of time, they'd latch onto the notion that the Cylons might be telling the truth. Everybody was so tired of running and living on the ships that they probably wanted to believe they were safe. They wanted to live a somewhat normal life. Which is why people dropped out of the miliatry when they could. They were just tired. Remember the episode "Final Cut" in which Adama and Roslin had D'Anna Biers make that documentary? The people in the military at that time were it. There were no reserve troops. They did their jobs no matter how exhausted they were and they never got a break. So when the time came when they began to feel like they were safe, they started taking advantage of it. It wasn't just a cut and dry "Okay, we believe the Cylons." It was something that took place over many months. It was a gradual feeling that they could maybe begin to relax now. And once you get that feeling, why would you want to go back to the way you were living? On the run, tired, seemingly no end in sight. They didn't suddenly trust the Cylons, it was more of a psychological thing where they convinced themselves that they were okay now. And there's really nothing Adama could do about that. I'm sure he felt a bit of it himself even though he, as well as others, felt it was their duty to keep watch.

Also, they thought they had a good hiding place. In actuality, they did. The Cylons wouldn't of found them had that nuke not been set off.

I think the whole thing is a dream/premonition sequence...one of those "this is what will happen if Baltar is elected" flashes.

Next "season" they will end up going back to before the election, which will be a shame because the current path looks kind of interesting and fresh.

I hope not. It is an awesome way to end a season but a stupid way to ruin an amazing story line. Are the writes are so desperate for stories that they decide to make that a dream? Every other story decision has been pretty good why do something that has been done on nearly every other Sci Fi show. I've only see something like this on one other show. Alias has a two year jump and they did a good job with it. The writers are better than that, Plus what do they gain by having it be a dream? Laura a president again? They can impeach Baltar and then have a new election. What do they gain if they don't have the Dream Sequence? A place to do even more amazing things with but we will have to see.

Don't think it's "a dream" or any such situation.

Ron Moore said in an interview a couple days ago that the first 4-5 episodes next season would deal with the Cylon occupation of New Caprica, but that they would start looking for Earth again by mid-way through the season.

"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."

Remember the cylon's switch in their way of thinking? They first wanted to wipe out humanity, now they thing it is their job to save humanity from itself.

I think next season we will see them in the role of "benevolent dictators". Sure, they will be doing all kinds of horrible things to the humans, but it will be for our own good now.

If the writers can't find material in that rich environment, they should be shot.

I am still fuzzy on the whole nuke thing too. How could the Cylons have detected it a light year away through the nebula cloud? If Draedus can't see anything until it is right on top of you & even the planet is hidden from sensors until you are inside the cloud then how is it that the Cylons detected the nuke that far away?

You know, that's a good point. Hmm...nope, nothing there. So it would seem that they detected it while they were a light year away, but still waited a year to gather up their forces before jumping in-system?

The radiation from the nuke travels at... wait for it... the speed of light! ;)

If you're a light year away, if you spotted the blast as soon as any detectable effects reached you, that would be a year from the time the blast happened.

Also, presumably a nuke blast produces a lot of gamma radiation, which tends to go through just about everything. Nebula clouds, presumably, included.

Radation causes Draedus blockage as well but that the signs of radation are dectectable by other means that Draedus.

I don't see how anyone who follows this show hasn't seen it yet, but I'll just play it safe.

Not only didn't I care for the simplistic voter fraud scenario ( oh, we switched the ballot boxes ? No worries, no investigation , Baltar, you're the President. ), I also didn't care for the whole Peace in our time turn of events. After what they went though, to just accept the Cylon's change of heart at face value? No frackin' way!

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

I think if you haven't seen the episode you should avoid this thread but still better safe then have someone else be sorry and crying in their soup.

I don't think you would even have to think about the Cylons change of heart. Baltar made the Promise to settle on New Caprica before the Cylons told them that they were changing their hearts. The people just thought that world was a safe place to stay. It's just an non-issue for the people of twelve colonies. What would you do? Keep running from them or stay on a world that would have been completely safe if Baltar had never given that Six the Warhead in the first place. So when the Cylons land and don't just kill every one out right I think you just have to accept what it happening or just get killed in the process. What about what Kara Thace said at the end. So even though she is forced to stand there and take it for now, she vows to fight till her very last breath. Even the Adamas vow to return to fight. The real question is how can the win against an emeny that is so overwhemingly powerful?

Just finally got to watch both season finale episodes last night. I thought it was good, but not great. (I LOVED Cobal's Last Gleaming, if for nothing other than the amazing music!)

1) Let's get back to Adama's wedding ring. Has he always worn one. Wasn't his wife killed during the invasion? I agree that I want his interaction with Laura back. They are really wonderful acting with each other.

2) I'm personally convinced that fat Lee and hippie-hair Starbuck will both be fixed next season. Lee will have to get fit again to lead his ship into combat and Starbuck will have to form some sort of underground resistance or something. I think it was an un-subtle attempt to show how far they have strayed from where they were. (And the makeup job on Lee was terrible). I suspect Adama will also loose the cheesy mustache.

3) Chief will be the next president, al la Lech Walesa. Maybe Laura will be an advisor.

4) Where is Sharon and what's up with that baby in the creepy crib (from the dream sequence in Cobal's Last Gleeming?). Do the Cylons know that kid is there?

5) The big jump that they skipped that I want to know more about is how "our" 6 and 8 convinced the entire Cylon empire (for lack of a better term) to change their outlook on humans. And why did 6 say "Judgment Day" if she is so warm and fuzzy about humanity? I'm very perplexed.

6) I don't think Baltar is evil, he is just weak and narcissistic. I thought it was a dream sequence also, at least in the beginning. But I agree that it's real. The show was getting stale in plot and they needed something new. I really think his breakdown into a terrible president is because he totally gave up when the other 6 killed herself. He wanted to be president to be with her...at least that is my take on it. I suspect that his original 6 is going to seriously kick his ass.

OK - that's enough for now. I'm gonna watch it again tonight and see if I pick up anything else interesting.

How much weight do you think Baltars promise should carry with Adama given that Adama now knows about Baltars cylon involvement?

If I lived in a civilization of (12 planets?) and the cylons came in and exterminated billions and billions of people leaving 50 thousand or so I would never ever trust them and I would never want to stop running.. best stay on the move.

I think you are right, look at what happened, but when the best minds tell you that this planet is the safest possible planet around. That you can live a normal life and not have to worry about a attack happening again. Then month after month when there are no attacks you actually begin to feel safe. Even more months go by so many months that the last attack hapened so long ago that the amount of time you were on the run (nine months) passes without incdent. If you were one of the hold outs (Roslin and the Adamas) you would start to think Baltar was right and five more months go by and nothing happens. I doubt anyone would think the Cylon had a change of heart, Roslin didn't believe them. If she did she wouldn't airlocked the Cylons that told about the change of heart. I was just the Safest place. My other thought is, Why not stay on New Caprica when the Cylons are follwing us and when we arrive on Earth and the Cylons go there and kill all of humanity because the people can Defend themselves from the Cylons, when we the people of the 12 colonies couldn't protect our selves from the Cylons.

The people were told that the Cylons will not find us here. That they can't use Dreadus to detect us. That unless they knew there was a planet in the the nebula. That there is no way the Cylons could find New Caprica and they would have been right if not for the nuclear explosion they would never have been found untill the nebula dissapated or you left the nebula. So, would you will want to run when every thing and tells you not to (plus most of the Fleet wants to go to New Caprica)?

My thoughts on the season finale:

1) They have clearly set up an Occupied France scenario. Cylon occupiers (Nazies), a collaborating Baltar administration (the Vichy government), and a Starbuck-led underground (the Resistance). I REALLY hope that they don't just fall into following that template out of laziness. I am hopeful that they won't... they've incorporated other social templates (prisoner torture, abortion debate, faith-led government, et. al.) without letting the template become the story sans creativity.

2) The story is over. The fleet is in disrepair, low on supplies, and manned by a skeleton crew. They pose little to no threat to the occupying Cylon fleet. The human settlement is operating at a technological level several centuries behind the occupying Cylon forces. If they become too effective at resisting, they can just be "culled" up to and including wiping them out. The humans lost. They are defeated...

... So what kind of rabbit do the writers have in their hat to stand the humans back up and re-inject drama into the struggle? I don't think they would put themselves into a corner that they couldn't get out of. How are they gonna do move the story forward? Should be interesting

3) The story has always been about finding Earth. I am fairly certain that they will get back to that. Feels too early in the series to have them find Earth to help liberate New Caprica. So I'd guess that they will find Earth sometime later. This means they have to liberate New Caprica on their own. Whatever trick they have up their sleeve to get the story back on track, I doubt if it involves Earth. If they just abandon the whole "find Earth" theme and base the rest of the series on the occupation (a la "V"), then that will be such a let down.

4) What is the endgame? Again, if they never find Earth and solve their problems with the Cylons on their own, then the whole Earth theme was a decoy. That will be a letdown. If they do find Earth, what Earth do they find? Today's Earth? That will be useless to them. We would be nothing but cannon fodder to the Cylons. Will they find a future Earth with sufficient technology to be of assistance in the human's struggle against the Cylons? Or will the Colonials and the Cylons resolve their differences, form some kind of Alliance (forgive the word!), and then find Earth and set about providing us a leg up to where they are?

There. Done for now.

My final response to the show was -- "SIX STINKING MONTHS?!?!?"

Was bad enough (back in the day) when one had to wait three months for the new seasons to start -- when seasons were actually 26 episodes long, and ran from Labor Day to late May or early June (with some weeks off during the season for pre-emptive type things or the ocassional re-run).

Now they give us a (how many was it?) season that's barely long enough to run the opening credits, then they take a SIX MONTH BREAK?!?!

Someone ought to let these bozos in Hollywood know they can't mess with us like this.

Last time I was so irritated over such a stunt (the last time baseball went on strike about 16 years ago), I stopped watching it (baseball) altogether.

The producers, the Sci-Fi Network, or whoever better get their act together. No show is worth waiting SIX MONTHS to see the conclusion of a cliff-hanger.
