i'm the owner of http://jewel-staite.net and recently (and rather belatedly) i've started a little "happy anniversary" jewel project. her and matt wed nearly three years ago on april 25th. what i'm trying to do is fill an online book full of well wishes from fans. those will then get printed out and sent to her as an anniversary gift from the fans.

I have wished them many returns.

Is it OK that I join the celebration, but still think that Jewel is one of the most divine things to walk the earth?

I've never written a fan letter before. Jewel Staite may get my first ever. Jewel is closest to me in age, followed by Summer: so I think Jewel's totally shiny. And other Jewel-like things.

Oh god. I think im beginning to understand how the girls feel when they're writing in a Nathan thread...

Aztechrome, I was going to do a wordy one too but kept it short after seeing all the others. Maybe with your longer one in there other folks will see that longer ones are ok :)

Jaina, you appear to have some comment spammers on your site (the second post on the frontpage, that has 5 comments right now - only one is real). Might wanna look to that ;) Also (I asked there but I don't know if you're checking comments) - do you have an RSS feed?

i have a lot of spammers unfortunately. spambots which automatically spam the comments there, about 30 odd a day. i manage to delte them every day but unfortunately i may just have to stop allowing comments :(

i'm still skeptical about that being jewel's myspace, until i hear it from the girl herself. ever the skeptic!

I heard of a good tactic that apparently works against comment spammers - I don't know if your software supports it or not though.

Basically on your comment page you put something like this along with the other input boxes in the HTML:

Which, for anyone unfamiliar with HTML, is a text box called "check" that's positioned 1000 pixels offscreen. So a human will never see it, but because of the way it's done, it's pretty difficult for a spambot to figure out that humans won't see it. And spambots tend to try to fill in every box on the page.

So then you just reject any comment that has anything in that box.

(If you want to be even more cunning you could call the box "subject" or "name" or something that spammers would expect to have a meaning - no human will ever see it so it doesn't matter)

I don't know what software you're using, but if you have access to modify the php files, I know enough programming to help you implement this if you're interested.
