Megmac,
I'm a wimp about scary movies too, but this one looks funny as well as scary.
Nathan took his Mom and she doesn't like these things and she only jumped a little ( read the interview, that's how I know this).
I am planning on going... my husband is astounded that I WANT to go see a scary movie ( his fave kind!), but I haven't informed him yet that our illustrious Captain is the star.
I think it's gonna be so funny that it'll outweigh the scary, it'd be a shame to miss out on the Cap'n on the big screen ( Mmmm ) cuz of scary.
My 2 cents, anyway.

I haven't gotten the urge to see a movie in a theater since December, so this will be an event for me for more than one reason.
I can't think of a better way to end my self-imposed exile than going to watch our beloved Cap'n kick some serious space-slug a**. Hey, what can I say? I've got a thing for self-spoofs, too, so that just sweetens the deal.

*cries*
we saw a comercial for Slither at my house...and I immidently perked up and paid attention.
...my dad promptly forbade me to go see it.
*sob*
All he gets is that it's a scary movie. My dad isn't the sort that even ever had potential to be a browncoat...and I don't know what to do now. *sigh* Hopefully my mom will have her own place by the time it comes out on DVD so I can at least rent it...

I feel for you. Truly, I do. I remember what it was like, having to beg, cajole, and otherwise prostrate myself before my parents would consent to me see an "R" movie. The only consolation I can offer is that this, too, shall pass, and probably a lot sooner than you think it will.
In the meantime, try to look at it from your Dad's point of view. He's trying to protect his kid from the big, bad world, which is a noble goal, even if it does drive you insane at times.
Here endeth the proselytizing.

Hey, GOOD NEWS! Variety magazine really really liked Slither. The reviewer gave a special note of Nathan's performance, and he even mentioned Firefly and Serenity.
The reviewer did say, however, that the "breakout potential appears iffy" for the movie. He said that didn't affect how good it was, of course, just that the likelyhood that this will make huge stacks of cash isn't high. I guess we'll see.

There were only eight other people in the theatre, though, so that's unfortunate. Not as gross as I expected (but it IS gross, so beware) but FUNNY FUNNY stuff!!
Not my usual fare, but I will be adding this to my collection once it's out on DVD! There were some really funny moments! Nathan was excellent (as if he could be anything else!).
If you're on the fence, go see it! You'll have a good time!

Me, too!
This film is packed with information you can't collect in one viewing. Partly it's the fast and furious pace of some sections and partly it's the wealth of detail that Gunn puts in the background of so many shots.
This is on my DVD list and I plan to give the Pause button a serious workout.

Bun,
I got my Entertainment Weekly magazine today and they have a The Must List... kinda their pop culture- this is what we're all doing if we're cool thing. Guess what is at the top, #1?! SLITHER! That's right, fellow 'coats,
our Cappy's movie.
So go, and see it and make it a big hit, cuz it deserves to be on so many levels.

FM, too bad EW didn't put that out *last* week. Not sure the film will be in theaters much longer, so how many EW-readers get to be cool?
Good reviews, no crowds. Grrrr.

Bun,
My daughter and her boyfriend came home from seeing friends and they said everyone is talking about Slither... how funny it is and how everyone should go see it. If young people are talking about it.. it's gonna be seen for a little while longer.
I have faith that this film has word of mouth going for it.

James Gunn (SLiTHER director) reported this on website http://www.jamesgunn.com/index.html too.

Firstly, SLiTHER was listed this week as #1 on Entertainment Weekly's "Must List." "
So I ran out to the store to buy EW and you
subscribers must get the next issue first.
Is the EW issue you are talking about #872?
Whoops, found FOLLOWMAL's answer on the Appreciatin' Nathan thread at www.serenitymovie.org
And here is the FOLLOWMAL's cover pic:

Entertainment Weekly #872 April 14th.
Issue #871 has a review of SLiTHER.
I wonder how many subscribers EW has.

Bumpin' this for Birthday Boy...
Seriously, 'coats, this flick needs to be seen in a theater first, unless you have the all-time Huge Screen (10' diagonal might do, and full blackout conditions except for the EXIT sign) Surround-Sound home theater.
*Then* you can get the DVD and wolf down steak tartare while watching.
This probably won't be on screens much if anywhere past this week.
The good news is that the production budget (according to James Gunn)was only 15 million USD, so even with marketing $ included it could make its money back sooner than Serenity.

Theaters are making their decision.
Please see SLiTHER during this week and
it may last another weekend.

I saw Slither the night it came out and it was fantastic! I was in WVa for a funeral and was able to see it. Good thing too - the closest theater to my house is over an hour away!
I would love to see it again. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.

OM, I went through considerable hell and misery to get there and back, and there was recuperating afterward. It was well worth it to see it in the theater (surely the shocks work better) and I've got the DVD on my buy list.

Wasn't NZ the first place where one could be strapped into an enormous see-through ball and rolled down a hill, with a few gallons of water tossed in as an option?

New Zealand and New Zealanders have been involved in lots of firsts - but movie screenings are not one of them :(
So, June 1st?
CURSES!!! I'll be winging my way over to Australia that morning and will be nowhere near a cineplex for two weeks. I'll probably miss the whole thing unless thousands of NZers rush off to see it.
Thank goodness for multi-zone DVD players ;)
When is the Sliver DVD due out...

Awwww, bullet. That's right nasty. You won't be near a screen at all? (Our "plex" didn't show it, but the single-screen did.)
As for the DVD release date, one hopes they'll wait a decent interval, just for form's sake.
But I lust for the DVD. Hang decency, I say!

Grossly funny and funnily gross. I really enjoyed it...(and not just because of Nathan!).
Too bad I was the only person in the theater, though. Happy Birthday anyway, Cap'n.

I agree - decency is way over-rated anyways ;)
I want me some Nathany goodness, and I want it now!!!

While I'm not for a wholesale suspension of decency (as Simon indicates, it can be all one has left, out in the black) I believe that the Decency of Intervals could be bent for this DVD.
There's so much detail to be looked for. I caught enough to know this flick will be very satisfyingly viewed with Pause and Rewind.
Nathan is Bill, not Mal, and there's only one lashy shot that I noticed. Also a soft little good-ol-boy paunch. LOL. Gunn films from different angles than Whedon's. It's a different look for the same guy, but plenty of goodness.
Note that although "gore" is mentioned in discussions, there's very little. It's slime and goo, latex and CGI. Oh, and pulsation. Lots of pulsation.
Raving again...don't want to spoil it.

Thanks FLORALBUNNY for the bumps!
I got to see SLiTHER again today. I had
to drive out of town. So SLiTHER is
still in theaters!
Whew, I was so scared that it would
totally disappear.
Happy Birthday Captain!
Entertainment Weekly #872 April 14, 2006 showed up in the grocery store today
and I got my copy.

Yep. Saw it today in a theater. Fourth person
in the theater. And they were newbie people
who were laughing real hard.

The weekend estimates have not been

pickup on Thursday from Wednesday.
But that was before the drop in theaters
on Friday.
