Assuming we'll have another BDM, what 5 things would you like to see happen/what changes would you like to see?

1. More emphasis on ensemble cast/dialogue/character interaction (as in Firefly), less on plot progression at any and all costs.
2. Return of Greg Edmonson as composer (and some inclusion of the Ballad).
2. New logo -- that Papyrus thing is just lame - return to Firefly style logo preferable.
4. Introduction of more test subjects from alliance program.
5. Explanation of Blue Sun.

Okay...fine, six:
Bring back Wash (evan as a Reaver if need be).

Yes, Blue Sun DEFINITELY needs to be the main focus of the story at some point. I'm thinking River knows more than just the Miranda cover-up... she just doesn't know she knows.

And it's true, the character development in the film wasn't nearly as good as in the show; obviously Joss had a lot of story to get through in very little time. I read somewhere that the basic plot of the movie was intended to be the storyline for the first two years of the show (which is good, because it means there's obviously more left to tell). I thought the film did an unbelievable job overall, but I have to admit that Book and Inara were absolutely ROBBED.

As far as the music and the logo, I loved both, especially in the title shot where we pull back from the name and pan around the ship... just gorgeous. And the ballad was included! An instrumental version, at the end of the credits. I loved that.

No.

Sorry, but one of my biggest pet peeves in ANY story is when characters are brought back to life... which is too bad for me, probably, since Joss loves to do this all the time. Feel free to hate me, but personally, I didn't even think they should have brought back Angel on Buffy. That was a fantastic and incredibly powerful death (and my personal favourite episode, actually), and undoing it just cheapened the story for me. Yes, we love Wash. That's why his death had such an impact, just like Joss wanted it to. To keep that impact, to keep the story honest with real consequences, he needs to STAY DEAD. The story can continue without him, and I'm sure his legacy will be felt.

Wow, thanks for the tip about the ballad -- I'd never bothered getting to the absolute end of the DVD. Makes me feel better. :)

As for Wash, it's already stated in the Serenity visual companion that Joss considers his return a possibility, so you never know. :)

And I agree completely on Book & Inara, particularly Inara as the scenes she was included in were very out of place for her (the intense combat scenes) --- she simply did not need to be there and could have remained elsewhere while the crew went off to find Miranda. (And through all of it, we saw almost no interaction between Mal & Inara (and none of Mal's usual concern for her safety) except in the begining and ending of the movie, as if she weren't even there -- and got even fewer lines). It was completely pointless. Not to mention that without the companion training scenes that were cut, the audience is left without any knowledge as to her profession, or even why she's there in the first place. As far as anyone knows, she's just Mal's ex-girlfriend or some such. Book I can forgive somewhat, if only because I feel that the presence of the Operative was meant to fill Book's role in the film -- as an impression of what Book may have been, so we didn't technically need as much of Book. Just my take.

#1: Blue Sun, absolutely. Possibly the return of the blue handed men so we can find out what exactly they are.
#2: Inara's back story and more interaction/exposition with Mal
#3: I badly want to see how Zoe handles herself. I think there could be a lot to her character there. Whereas Mal kept flying after he lost everything in Serenity Valley, I want to see how she manages the same thing after losing something important on Miranda (this is one of the reasons, other than the obvious, that Wash cannot come back. Much as I grieve, I agree that bringing back the dead is a bad idea)
#4: Of course, what happens to River now. Is she totally sane or just more stable? And what other secrets might she know?
#5: Hmmmmmmm, I dunno. Maybe there could be a brief shot of a building that says FOX that then gets blown up? Now that I would like to see.

Seriously, though. I think that now that all the intros are out of the way, there's plenty more room for character development in the sequel. (And I'm with the previous posters in thinking that there's likely plenty more to explore with River, and that Miranda is likely not the only big secret in her head.)

It'd be quite shiny to have another secret of some sort revealed of course. Whether it's Inara's, Book's, or the story behind Blue Sun, or even something we don't even know about yet, I'm all manner of excited about the prospect of finding out.

I certainly agree with PhoenixRose about Zoe's reaction to Wash's death. I think there are many plotlines that could be explored with Zoe's grief, not to mention the fact she could finally get the character development she so richly deserves. I always felt she and Wash never really had enough air time.

Ranting aside, here's my top five:

1. Going more indepth with the culture and history of the verse. You can only get so much from costumes and language. I think just one scene explaining or elaborating on a significant historical event (like the war) could add so much to the story.

2. More of Jayne. Not for the usual reasons (well, not just for the usual reasons), but I think there's a lot we don't know about Jayne. His character (in a way) is designed to be one-sided, and I don't think it has to be that way. And just to show how evil I am, maybe some positive interaction (hint, hint) with River. Sorry, but I just love Rayne fics.

3. Actually doing more than just alluding to a relationship between Mal and Inara. After waiting through the entire series for them to finally admit their feelings, I don't think I'm the only one that feels screwed over regarding their characters in the BDM. Simon and Kaylee is nice and all, but Mal and Inara would be way more interesting.

4. Maybe incorporating some of the minor characters from the series into the movie. YoSaffBridge is always fun, and Badger or Niska would also be interesting.

5. Perhaps the characters could also find out more about Book's past. I know it will be hard with him dead and all, but if he really does have Alliance connections like we believe, then that could end up being a major plotline. I would give us a way to bring at least one character back without using the clone or ghost-that-only-River-can-see angles.

-Sigh- So many ideas, not enough production companies to understand the validity of them.

At last.

GREAT question:

1- Like everyone else, more BLUE SUN! What's the deal with those people?
2- I'd like to see what "normal" River's like. Her possible role as the new pilot is an interesting place to start.
3- Jayne's family. You know those people are gonna be hilarious.
4- I agree with the previous, YoSaffBridge. She's a classic and a hottie.
5- The announcement of eleventeen more sequels and a new series.

1: Least 5: Most

1: I would definitely like to see what happens to Zoe. She didn't deserve to loose Wash, but I wonder if Zoe will hold up so we can see how strong she really is.

2: Though there is interaction between Mal and Inara if you watch the deleted scenes, the actually movie had very little. We deserve more of this.

3: Humour. Apart from a couple of lines ("Define 'Interesting'" "Oh God, Oh God, we're all gonna die?"), there wasn't much of Joss's trademark wit.

4: Book. Early's line from the series "That's not a preacher" gives us more questions than any thing else regarding the 'Preacher'. We want answers! Is it just a coincidence that he came on the ship at the same time as an agent and a fugitive, both from the core planets? Anyone?

5: Simon and Kaylee. We left them beginning what will most likely turn out to be a very happy relationship. The only problem is that I can see Joss doing something horrible in a film, although he might not as he already did the leaving thing. If there was a series instead of a movie, on the other hand, Joss has a habit of killing off family characters (Buffy's Mum and Tara to name but two). For God's sake man, don't kill them off. Their time together (if they don't die) will most definitely be the only slice of true happiness left on the ship. **SNIFF** No, I'm not crying, just got something in my eye.

Oh, and I know it's against the rules, but more of the Blue Sun dudes. I call them the Gentlemen. It's a good name. The Blue Man Group was taken.

Phoenixrose said: "Wash cannot come back. Much as I grieve, I agree that bringing back the dead is a bad idea)"

I agree. It takes away the possiblity that something bad could happen to the characters. There's less anticipation if you know they're not gonna be at risk. Then again, that anticipation lasts only through the first viewing, and since Firefly lends itself to multiple viewings, that edge-of-the-seat thing doesn't make up a large percentage of the whole experience.

But, bringing back characters from the dead still feels like a cop-out. How about Wash has a brother -- played by Alan Tudyk?

Yeah, could do without a Wash resurrection. Zoe trooping on alone would be interesting to watch. A potential pregnancy's been touted about on other thread. But most importantly, just to see how the chica would do without her emotional side being on show. She's always been taciturn but not as bitter as Mal. Would be interesting to see where that went.

Simon and Kaylee as the replacement 'couple': how does that work in with Simon's relationship with River? Which could lead into...

Development of the Mal/River relationship. There's something about the way he interacts with her that I can't quite define. But I want to see where it goes.

Jayne in love. With a VERY strong woman. Who turns him into the frightened little boy he is. And then makes him into a man.

And all the other stuff too. I want it all.

In a way, I kind of dread the idea of a sequel, if only because of Joss's habit of letting happy couples be happy for a while, then doing something unpleasant. I like Kaylee+Simon, damnit, and I don't want to see them have a WillowTara thing, or even worse, a XanderAnya fiasco.

That said, in fantasy top 5, in no particular order:

1) The Hands of Blue
2) Kaylee
3) The Cobb Clan.
4) The Companions Guild and its intrigues.
5) Blue Sun.

How, gorramit, is the Xander and Anya situation worse than the Willow and Tara one?

Xander ran out on Anya at the wedding because he didn't want her to lead an unhappy life because of him (By the way, I haven't seen Season 7, so if you mention it, by God, I will cut you open, I swear it), but it's still mendable. Probably.

For God's sake man/woman/whatever, Tara was shot through the heart, Willow put a bullet in the guy that did it before tearing off his skin, then tried to destroy the world. In between those events, she managed to hurt Anya, Buffy, Xander, Dawn and nearly kill Giles.

So, yeah. Willow = Harder time.

So let's hope it ends like neither. If Simon does leave Kaylee (And let's pray that he doesn't), it'll be an Angel and Buffy thing, if anything, because he left her to protect her. I think. Well, if he leaves (Still praying here), it'll be because he's a fugitive and it would be for her own safety. Probably.

Also, just in case you don't know, the popular theory is that Blue Sun and those wierd Hands of Blue guys are the same. Well, the Hands of Blue work for Blue Sun. I think.

Whoa, too much space for one post.

I say worse for the two people involved. Eventually, you can move on from someone dying. They're gone. Not cheapening it, or anything, but it happens, and then the aftermath happens.

The XanderAnya situation, on the other hand, nobody's dead. The other person is still there, and is going to still be there for the foreseeable future (until they get killed off too.)

Which is worse, the torture from losing someone, or the torture from losing someone, and then having them right there in front of you every single day? Especially when, on some level, both still care for each other.

Guess it's a matter of opinion.

Well, I finished the series and went back and watched Serenity again last night.

I definitely would rather Firely was back on TV. 1 movie every couple years wouldn't do the character development justice, that these characters deserve. I prefer the slow (VERY SLOW), development of River throughout the series, for example, learning one new thing about her in a hour, rather than the "Holy crap! *Poof* she's a bad-ass" method that the movie needed to take to tell a bigger story in 2 hours.

Plus, I just think the crew of Serenity is maybe better suited to tell smaller little stories, rather than the bigger ones that are needed for movies. I prefer to see them doing a job.

Anyway though, back to reality, where movies may be the route they will have to take. Here's how I could see movies telling the stories of the crew.

1. Serenity - River's story. Already told, basically tells us who River is, and where she came from.

2. Shepard Book's story. I don't know what it is, but I'm sure it could make quite an interesting movie. Was he an Alliance Operative? A spy? An Assasin? I'm sure there is a "movie quality" story there to be told.

3. Zoe and Wash. It would almost be a romantic comedy, until he dies, at least.

4. The War - Mal's story (with a lot of Zoe too, I'm sure).

5. Inara's story - No explanation needed. Perhaps do it last and then have Inara and Mal ride off into the sunset together to end it all.

Jayne is actually my favorite character, but I don't see him having a "movie quality" story behind him. He was basically a petty theif. I think his stories are better suited for TV.

And, I'm sure I'll anger the Kaylee fan-club too, but I see her as having even less of a story to be told than Jayne. She was a backwoods little girl who had very little life experience, it seemed until her job on Serenity.

Maybe Simon's story could be told. How he tracked River down, and made the contacts to infeltrate the Alliance and get River back. I'm not sure if it's movie worthy or not though.

The absolutely, must-have, cannot-live-without story in BDM#2 is Inara and Mal. Together. Without one of them dying. I've been watching vids of the two of them, and rewatching episodes that feature the two of them, and gorramit, Mal deserves to be happy for once in his life! And Inara deserves to have her story told! And I need some release to all this angst that's been building up!

Um. Yeah, I'd like to see Kaylee's and Simon's relationship develop, and the Cobb Clan (fantastic idea, Milford!). But those are kind-of subplots. Also, Book's back-story and the Blue Sun, those are two mysteries I would love to see explained, as long as we can tie that in to Inara/Mal.

Seriously, Joss, if you're reading this thread for inspiration some day - don't make me come over there. Just give me my Inara/Mal storyline, and nobody gets hurt.

Also more on Blue Sun and how they are involved with River ect.

Also i wouldnt mind seeing how Simons and Rivers parents could be involved too.

Forgot to add;

More development of Book and how hes involved with the Alliance(e.g. on that one episode when he gets that card out)

And lastly to see how Kaylees and Simons relationship gets on.

4. We need a past on Book. And Inara also. Also, is she still in the Guild?

5. Kinda joking, but my husband would like a quick shot of the Operative in his new life running into YoSafBrige. Mal, figures they deserve each other and moves along.

Things I'd like to see, huh?

1. More exploration of the Mal/Inara thing. Definately NOT them getting together. Having a happy, working relationship would not last long with Whedon at the wheel, and besides, the possibility of them getting together always makes me smile. Like a little girl.
2.Absolutely NOT Wash coming back to life. He was buried with a big hole in his stomach, and a zombie in the Firefly 'verse would seem out of place. Especially if he and Zoe were to get back together... Introducing a "Wash's brother" character is out too. Unless he was a completely different character, it would be like the show was trying to copy the original character dynamics, just with a different actor playing "Wash". That would be unpleasant. Although, one thing that COULD work as a kind of "resurrection" would be The Operative becoming a Shepherd and coming on board to be a kind of Book with a intense suppressed depression thing going on. But that's just because I like The Operative. He's like Early, but not as touchy.
3.Blue Sun. Not a complete reveal-all, but showing to be sure that they had something under their Super Wal-mart exterior. Or maybe not. The mystery of the Blue Sun Corporation is one of my favorite things about the 'verse, and I wouldn't want that to be ruined.
4.The return of Kaylee's poofy dress! This category also includes Jayne's hat.
5.Badger.

2) Blue Sun & Blue Hands. The bad guys need more exploration. For one thing we already know they are bad. Lets see how much worse they can get

3)Although Jayne is considered Mals second in the funny dept. he is really good with the dramatic parts as well. My wife still hates him for what he did to Simon and River. " What you gonna tell the others? Make somethin-up." Yepper I do feel sorry for him. This character needs to continue on.

4)Saffrin. I do believe I was married to this girl in another life. Maybe hubby 106 or something. Great actress. One for the guys to vent on.This girl is so crafty and beautiful shes the one we love to hate ( while lying in her bed, just don't kiss her on the mouth) she needs to come back in the BDM2.

5)This is a possibility in the BDM2. Books character explored further. Even if he's no longer around. maybe have the crew come upon some info about Book that sheds more light on who he was.

Last thing. Whether we like it or not. The whole idea of movie making is to make money. This means new fans. Ones that don't know much about FF/Serenity. Our ranks must swell. This means 30 minutes of backstory and covering old ground. I know everybody wants 2 hours of new material but some parts of a sequel will have to deal with what has gone on before.

I find it amusing that if someone posted the same sentences with Zoe or Inara or Kaylee as the subject, they would be totally flamed from several quarters for being neanderthals.

Ah, reverse discrimination. You don't have to love it, just recognize it when you see it.

But on to the topic of the thread: My pet peeve with franchises is the one-upmanship. Next installment has bigger sets, bigger budgets, more eye-popping special effects, and less and less dialogue/character development.

In the next movie, my take is they're suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome, sneaking around much like they did in the TV series, trying to earn a living, trying to keep flying. They don't want a high profile. I have faith that Joss could come up with a major plot point that would carry a movie, yet allowed for tons of ensemble work by the cast, alot of typically awesome yak-yak and off-kilter humour -- the trademarks of the Joss that we know and love. He could write a Firefly phonebook and it would be compelling. Hell, he probably has, to help him with the backstory. Just a list of 'verse business ventures could speak volumes. I myself am leafing through the yellow pages right now looking for "Spacecraft -- Previously Owned".

That is a really good idea. If Book was an Operative, that would give us his back story in a subtle way. Course, he's have to be in an abby for awhile; he couldn't just start being on the ship. I bet it takes awhile to become a Shepard. Plus, Mal would kill him!
Lots of really good ideas on this thread actually. The only one I have to take issue with is the idea of Zoe being pregnant. I'm sorry, but do we all know the definition of "Jump the Shark"? I agree with Girlaskew that it would be far "too schticky" not to mention totally out of place. Not many people have touted this one, though. I really love most of these ideas. I just thought of a story line that would upset a lot of fans... if you think you might be easily upset, better skip this one.

Suppose Zoe discovers she's pregnant... but decides to have an abortion rather than raise the child alone. Nasty idea, I admit -- but Joss is known to be gleeful about jerking his viewers' strings.

Not sure we should consider Zoe "alone" in that respect, Doncoat. Hell, that kid would have more family . . .

Mal was raised by a solo parent, if I recall, from what he sez in Our Mrs. Reynolds.

Imagine how awesome Kaylee would be as a babysitter. She'd be swapping the shotgun cartridge teether that Zoe prefers for something a wee bit more user friendly.

And i had the same thoughts about the possible pregnancy of Zoe. It could work, but it would most likely just complicate things and make things lame. Thats a bad sitcom move. Thats where sitcoms go to die.

For TV :

Just start the show back up 5 years later. Its that simple. No gimmicks, no stupid ideas, just life on Serenity. Thats the show. Life goes on.

For Film:

Keep it going where it was going. The fast pace of the movie was fun, just plow through the story.

It boils down to this.......

Nobody was going to go go buy Firefly on DVD (who hadnt already loved it on TV) unless they saw Serenity.

Nobody wanted to go see Serenity in the theater, cuz it was "that lame TV quality Sci-fi crap show that got canceled 3 years ago" unless they already loved Firefly.

So that leaves it to people like me. I heard so many good things about Serenity ,(5 star reveiws, word of mouth) that after not being able to get anybody to go to the actual theater, i rented it on DVD. And that was it. And after dragging the series out as long as i humanly could (6 months) as a huge Star Wars fan i felt cheated. "Wow, the new Star Wars suck." I thought. If only they could have spent 150 million dollars on Serenity instead.

So right now we are in a very strange position.

I already posted what I want in the BDM2, but I need to add two more things that I absolutely want to see.

1. More scenes with Kaylee and the Captain. I love the big brother/little sister relationship.

2. The family around the dinner table, like old times. There wasn't nearly enough family togetherness in Serenity.

1. More Zoe. Anything with more Zoe, except pregnancy, unless Wash comes back.

2. This more has to do with the fact that he SHOULDN'T HAVE DIED IN THE FIRST PLACE (not that I'm bitter), but I just want Wash back. Though I can't think of a single way for Joss to do it properly, without making it just awful and trite and stupid.

3. Book's backstory--the most intriguing (if not my favorite) storyline, handily squished by machine gun to tummy.

4. River tricksy-flying.

5. Inara's backstory, and will she and Mal just shut up and get it on already? Aieesh.

Hmmm...a lot of what I'm thinkin' has already been said, but...

1.) More characterization, especially for Inara. As someone already pointed out, she was robbed blind.
2.) Blue Sun conspiracies. Yeah, there's gotta be more than just one. I can't see them just making supersoldier readers.
3.) Wash & Book...in flashbacks.
4.) See how stable (or not stable) Zoe and River are.
5.) Enough half-naked characters to keep all us browncoats happy.

I've got no beef with the soundtrack for the BDM. I love it, and for the folks who are upset about the lack of the ballad...heck the strains of the refrain are through most of the music. It's everywhere folks.

Hey, I drool over them. I think every member of the cast is pretty drool-worthy, to be honest. And, you know, I think it would be unfair if there was eye candy for some but not others. There should be equality. Lots and lots of equality.
Anyway, I could talk about others things I want to see. Most of it's been talked about already, though. I like the last comment about Jayne, though. Where was Vera? I'd like to see a little more of Jayne's story in general, actually. I'd like him to have more... depth. Adam did a fantastic job giving some depth to the most 2-D character on the show, but I'd like him to have a little more to work with. I'd like to see him rescuin' some folk.
But see, that just proves that there have to be more movies. A lot more movies. Could never fit all of this into a couple hours. Esspecially family time, you know. Just sitting around the table or having small jobs to get done.
Hey, here's a thought! Maybe a few nameless execs could pulls their heads out of their respective asses and bring back the show. (I know, I know, it doesn't help to say it over and over. Can't help myself)

Bring back Wash (evan as a Reaver if need be).

For me, it would be the following:

1. Mal & Inara dealing with their feelings in the midst of a character evolution for Inara or a major issue involving her job and the Guild. Gotta have CappyCompanion angst as Inara deals with the Guild trying to dump her and coming to realize her beliefs have been misguided.

2. Zoe's handling of the pain of losing Wash. We need to see more of the "Out of Gas" Zoe redux with new facets from being a widow. Plus the issues of Silee (and possibly Rayne and Mal/Inara) going on to remind her of what she has lost.

3. Blue Hands. They got gypped in the comics, so more of the creepy f-ers hunting after River. Maybe combine it with the use of successful Academy grads and secret groups of Blue Sun hunting down their "prototype."

4. Reactions to the Miranda WAVE! I know I am curious to see how things will have changed after such a revelation....so I wanna see some social angst going on

5. Gabriel and Regan. With the above wave and River being more stable, I think some contretemps with Ma and Pa Tam would be good and work well with other ideas that might come up for plots.

Yeah, a lot of people seem to want this... understandably. And while I'm curious to see exactly what Joss has in mind too, I already have my own relatively confident theories; I know neither one is original, but they were to me, before I found out how many people shared them.

There are enough clues in the series to assume that Inara is dying, presumably from some fatal disease. Particularly this exchange from "Out of Gas":

INARA: I love this ship. I have from the moment I saw it.

SIMON: I just don't want to die on it.

INARA: (glances away) I don't want to die at all.

The implication seems ot be that since she has to die, she wants it be on Serenity. Put that together with the memory River reads in "Objects in Space": "I'm a big girl. You can tell me." To me, it sure seems like she's remembering talking to her doctor, and finding out about her terminal illness.

I guess this interferes with all the hopes for a happy Mal/Inara relationship. Sorry about that; maybe I'm wrong.

As for Book, after seeing the movie, one of my first thoughts was, "Hey! We got gipped! We never found out Book's mysterious past!" But then I decided, maybe we did, just in a very subtle way. Personally, I'd bet a lot he was an Operative. The similarities between the two characters (sigh... no, not just the fact that they're black) are too strong to ingore: the Operative reevaluates his life view, and turns his back on his military career, just like Book obviously did. And Book just seemed to be way too efficient a fighter, and know way too much about Alliance military procedure (including Operatives) for me to conclude anything else. In fact, if Joss was going to bring time travel into the 'verse (although I hope he doesn't), I'd say the Operative WAS Book. The two characters seem like the early and latter parts of the same life. What do you think?

P.S. Sorry for the rambling, incredibly long-winded post.

I think that the Operative sort of was Book. Just...not literally. But I agree that the similar characters was probably Joss's way of giving us Book's past(ish). In a subtle way.
I've read a lot about it, but I still take issue with the Inara has a terminal disease theory. She's just too healthy. People have a terminal illness, they do not look that good, they don't move that well, and odds are they are not allowed to be Companions. I'm interested in her story because I just can't decide what it might be.

The Operative has to return for the next movie (although I'd far rather have a new series). He is by far the coolest bad guy in a long time.

AS for comments about charcater development in the film. Well it is a film. You have 2 hours in which to do a self-contained story. You either do action or character. You can't do both in any detail. That was BDMs one problem. Too many central characters. That's why Inara and Book lost out, because Joss had to tell a story. He could either tell one good story (as he pretty much did) or half a dozen small but under done ones.

Backstory.

We've had all the important backstories of River, Simon, Kaylee, Wash and Jayne. That's not where the mysteries lie. So...

1. Mal's backstory. What were the influences in his early life that led him to volunteer for the Independents? Which leads to...

2. What was the earth-shaking -- personality-wise -- event(s) that occurred at The Battle of Serenity Valley, that transformed his and Zoe's life so completely?

3. Zoe's backstory. What aspects of her birth culture allows her to be so steadfastly devoted to Mal? (NB: I think she is ronin and Mal is her substitute warlord.)

4. Book's backstory. Told by video diary, found beneath the mattress in his old quarters, strictly as an example.

5. Inara's backstory. Specifically, what drove her to leave Sihnon and go 'walkabout'? What's in her syringe and how does that affect her motivations?

Once we get past the backstory (which is why I'd call the sequel, "Shadow", btw), we can concentrate on the thrilling climax in the third cinematic installment. Doing a movie with a lot of backstory can be done very effectively, while simultaneously following a contemporary plot; "The Godfather: Part II" leaps to mind.

I'd call the final (contracted) movie, "Firefly", to complete the circle, and to emphasize its main hero 'character'...

Wishfully,

zoid

P.S.
6. Gotta see Jayne's mama...

If you check out the deleted scenes available on the DVD, plus the Visual Companion (pun!)/Joss interviews, they pretty much answer 2 and 3. Both the Independents and the Alliance left Mal in charge of I think 2000 soldiers in Serenity Valley while they negotiated surrender. By the time someone showed up to rescue them, he was down to a couple hundred. Zoe (career military) was the only person from their platoon to survive.

Also, the syringe...fairly sure that's for emergency suicide.

True, Joss does address my number 2 & 3 things I'd "like to see in BDM2", but only in a very superficial way.

As many have written over the course of my two years here, in many threads, there is indeed a special bond that forms between 'brothers-in-arms'. But as they and I have also written, it seldom results in the 'life-debt' style of connection that Mal and Zoe exhibit. In fact, in the case of extraordinarily traumatic events, participants tend to be driven by a need to get as far from each other as possible, to avoid continuous and unbearable reminders of that horrific episode in their lives.

So, with all due respect: Nope. That story's not been told. The fact that Joss went so far as to remove a scene with just a hint of further information on the subject from the pilot episode, indicates (to me and others) that Joss has more to reveal on that score.

So, I'll leave in my request to have that story told. And there is definitely more going on with Zoe than meets the eye. I wanna see deeper into her character's formative past and motivation.

As far as Inara's syringe goes: I refer you to Joss' commentary on the Firefly DVDs for (again) the pilot episode, in which he says a lot of people thought her syringe was for suicide; but that it wasn't, it was part of her "secret". That's from The Man himself.

I was among those who -- like yourself -- thought, "Reavers. She's not going to be taken alive". But, we were wrong, if you believe Joss Whedon...

Respectfully,

P.S.
ronin (from Wikipedia):
"A samurai became masterless from the ruin or fall of his master, or after the loss of his master's favor or privilege. ...It is also a term used for samurai who had lost their masters in wars." (Emphasis mine.) And lest we forget, Kurosawa is the visionary most often referred to in the Western genre. His ronin movies have been outright reshot as Westerns, and have reverberated throughout the genre. Clint Eastwood's "Unforgiven" ( a personal favorite) is very suggestive of this theme. As a further example of how this applies, The Operative is now, by definition, a ronin. That's why he asks Mal how he continued after Serenity Valley: he recognizes Mal as a fellow ronin. That's a pretty powerful moment, a significant revelation.

Well, like most people here what I really want to see is the series back on TV, I would espacially like to see the first season finished so that we can close the gap between the series and Serenity in a better way and also to let Joss Whedon be able to finish it the way he always wanted. (and also to get some more Book and Wash into it before they go and die)
But in case that doesnt happen, heres my list.

1). Kaylee and Simons relationship, want to see it grow and just enjoy the fact that they are finally together.

2). More backstory and the secrets behind Inara, watched the commentaries on the Firefly Pilot not long ago and I remember Joss saying that the vial that she picks out isnt a suicide kit but something he wanted to work more in further ahead.

3). Zoe after Wash, would like to see how she handles losing him. Also I remember them talking about making a baby in Heart of Gold so I got kinda upset that they never got that far before he died, so im not totally against Zoe being pregnant (although I find it unlikely).

4). Blue Sun, the most evil buggers around. To bad we dont really know that much about them. Would be nice to get a better look at these guys, also now that the Alliance Government is having Post Miranda issues I think these guys will be the ones primary searching after River.

5). Backstory to Mal, Although we have heard much about it, some more flashbacks would be nice, really would like to see how the endless plains of Shadow looked like before the Alliance reduced them to cinder.

Keep spreading the word about Firefly!

1. Definitely a better soundtrack. Seeing Edmonson back on board would be awesome, but anything that gets back to the laid back western feel of the series would be an improvement. The soundtrack for the movie was the biggest disappointment for me.

2. Slow it the hell down. I know they wanted to placate the 'short attention span' crowd but I'm so over rollercoasters. The pacing of the movie was just too frantic.

3. Also related to pacing, Joss's dialog and character development deserve time to develop. More with the talky bits.

4. More of a personal focus. I know everyone is convinced a 'movie' has to be grand and glorious, but I don't buy it. Lot's of great movies are made about deeply moving, personal stories - stories that don't involve epic battles with evil. You don't see 'em much in big, damn, sci-fi movies, but bucking tradition is what Firefly was all about. And you DID see those kinds of stories in the series. It's part of what made it so cool.

5. Is it too late to get the real Simon back? Maybe Joss had imagined Simon undergoing some personality changing transformations between the end of the series and the movie, but it seemed more than than, especially given the re-telling of River's escape. The Simon of the series was the awkward rich boy, all genteel and out of his element. The movie gave us Simon Bond - 007.

Simon did come up with the plan on Aerial. But yeah, i see where your coming from. I guess he kinda would of had little impact in the plot if not for those 00 elements.

I want to see more interaction amongst the crew, particularly with Mal/Inara (finally doing something about their feelings and getting together), More Simon/Kaylee togetherness (Awwww!!!).

I don't care what anyone else says, I want Wash and Book coming back even if it is in flashbacks, (Come on people! This is Sci Fi, It could happen. lol)

Explanations on backstory on Inara's and Book's characters & and the Blue Sun/Blue Hands Guys.

I want to see what happens next with River and Zoe's characters and see how they deal with the changes in their lives. River's got to know more secrets, and there must be more triggers in her brain to unlock them...
