OK - I normally just lurk here but I am coming out of the shadows of Inara's shuttle to put my money where my mouth is....
The UK has just got to do something for 23rd June! We cannot let a country of former colonials (no offence intended) out-do us!
I am willing to try and put something together, but I can't do it alone. I need a squad of volunteers... or failing that, some companions... is there anyone else out there in UK-land???
I'd even go as far as putting together a charity screening, but if we talk about it, I'll go along with anything. I just think it'd be a shame if we didn't try.

There's a UK Browncoat from Leeds who was talking about a possible screening.

If we are still at the choosing a city stage, can I suggest somewhere like Manchester? Its central, and a lot closer to Scottland than London is, which mean that Northern Browncoats would have a much easier time getting there. As far as I know they have a cimema that plays older and popular movies like The Prince Charles down in London does.
I wanted to suggest that I arrange a screening in Liverpool for northeners etc, but Manchester would make a much better location.
I'm willing to help make any other screening happen in any way I can though, so just ask if you think you can make use of me.

I'll second that. London's a little to far for me to travel (North westerner myself) but Manchester would be good. Maybe the Scots could come to that one too.
If people are interested I'll look into possible venues

HEY GUYS! been lurking for lthe last few months but I'm bakc with a fab idea for UK browncoats, not sure if this has already been propsed but we could all send letters to Empire mag from now till the big day.
For those of you that don't know what emire mag is I will explain: Empire is the biggest selling film magazine in the UK and they are on our side! their critics have called the BDM "Glorious" and are calling Nathan Fillion and Mal "the new Han Solo". The've printed a 6 page special on the BDM (entitled "Serenity WOW) and the relase of it on dvd over here in the uk was the cover stoy of Empire's "at home" suppliment (it shows a cartoon Serenity smashing out of a TV in space!)
We need to specifically target 3 Empire guys with emails and letters, James Dyer (he wrote the 6 page special) Olly Richards (reveiwed the film and gave it a 4 out of 5 "Very Good" rating (basically meaning that they urge you to go, even if you dont generally like tht sort of movie)and Angie Errigo (she wrote the flattering DVD release article)
The end result of this campagn would hopefully be an artivcle written by us or on behalf of us in Empire Magazine, perhaps even a sponsered event in the uk of some kind. I'm gonna need some help with this so i might make a separate thread for us Brits, wot do you guys think?

Great to have you on board!
I too am in London and would love to organise something. Maybe we should get busy.
I feel it would probably be good to have a "south" event and a "North" event so as amny people as possible can have the opportunity to be involved.

Great to have you aboard Darklighter9! I have already thought of this and have a little inside knowledge. Depending on the response from the UK Browncoats, I was going to personally approach them. They (Empire) respond better that way rather than a mailing campaign - at worst they just need to know numbers.
It was one reason why I was thinking of both a North and South event - mkore publicity for them. And I was also going to approach SFX who are also totally on our side.
I do think that maybe, if there are enough people out there interested that we need to get ourselves more orgainsed - like the yanks - possibly through threads but maybe through a UKK Browncoat site for the events.
Ideas anyone? The main problem I seem to be having is recruiting UK Browncoats. Can we all get the singal out?

Its a great idea to get SFX involved, those guys love Firefly and Serenity, and they tend to be more level headed about fan groups and such.
I do think that one person appraoching them with mass support would be better than hundreds of letters being sent in. Its more professional and doesn't create the panic about 'rabid fanatics' that i've seen some magazines go on about.
Empire is a great magazine with a huge readership, but again we have to be really careful to present the cause in a none crazy fans way.
And a north and south set of events would be just the thing.
From where I am, it cost £5 to get to manchester as opposed to £50 to london. So one in the north is much better for northeners. Leeds, as someone was talking about arranging, would be ok, but the west side would find it more difficult, like I said before, Manchester is a litle more central.
SFX have a great forum and the writers actually post, so checking that one out would be a good idea.
and like I said, i'm willing to help in anyway I can.

I'm an active member of the Empireonline forums and as soon as a sig or av has been produced I'm going to attach it to any past and future posts I've made on the site. Thanks to Kiftgirl for this! It would be good to use her already set-up link over at Yahoo to organise this fantastic day/days.
Can we finalise where, as in which locations, we are going to hold these. I'll organise London if there is enough interest for this city for the South event.
I need to know the locations so I can communicate these to the media (sorry, I'm excited as I've had 2 calls already this morning wanting further info!!!) Seems this is likely to be an historic event!

Hi, the UK map is abit out of date and I`m not overly inclined to update it, but it does give an idea of where people are (ish).
I just thought I would mention (as someone pointed me here) There is a `Theme Park Job` on the 23rd of June at Alton Towers, Everyone is welcome, just a day of fun for Browncoats and I`ve ordered in some nice weather - this has been a topic on cantstopthesignal.co.uk & serenitymovie.org - if you fancy coming, don`t need to do much, just turn up (preferably wearing something vaguely spottable as a flan) as early as possible, although If you PM me before the event, I can give out a mobile phone number where I can be got in touch with during the day (makes it easier to catch up with people)

Hi shinygirl91,
Start a thread here or maybe on that UK yahoo group like "Calling all Ireland Browncoats!"
Or "Ireland Charity Serenity Screening Anyone else want one?"
Ask if there is a yahoo group or anything for Ireland Browncoats?
How about "Searching for Determined and Brave Browncoat in Ireland!"
That is all you need and a few friends to attend the screening.
Decide on a theater. Contact the theater. Have the theater get the film.

Why don't you have both. One in May and

Also you should tell http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com

Also could you start a thread here that
tickets are on sale now and asking people
to post it everywhere UK fans might be, because you need 30 tickets sold by the end of April or
there is no show.
Also, if lets say a Serenity fan in the United States wanted to buy two tickets for you to give
away from a radio station or something. Could
that fan say mail a US check for ??? amount to that address on www.kumara.org.uk
with a note attached. And postage,
how much US should that fan put on a envelope to get that envelope to the UK??

Tickets are buyable by Paypal which translates nicely between major currencies. If a US person buys tickets, they'll get them for GPB10 plus 50p P&P.

>with a note attached.
Vera> Tickets are buyable by Paypal which translates nicely between major currencies. If a US person buys tickets, they'll get them for GPB10 plus 50p P&P.
I TRIED...
I just tried to buy two tickets through the paypal link and kept getting an error
"Your payment session has expired. To complete this transaction, you will need to enter your information again."
This might be happening because I switched the
first screen to USA country.
Have you sold any tickets at all yet?

Sorry the Paypal link isn't working - I'll look into that.
We haven't sold many tickets, so barring a big rush very soon, we're probably going to have to cancel this and effectively lose GPB150 non-returnable deposit on the cinema.
As far as I'm aware there isn't a UK Bristol Browncoat organisation.

Oh my god! I'm the one organising the showing in LEEDS. (which is just as central as Manchester.)
I'm still in talks with the cinema's PR people. I'm so glad there's all this interest. It gives me some extra ammo.
Once i've got a definate answer, I'll let onetruebix know so it can go on that website.
Am so impressed with word of mouth!!!
Cortex and waves obviously work really well.

Wicca - email me (serenity@pettifog.com). If people organise UK screenings (and you need to do it NOW if you are going to - they need months in advance to get the reels via Universal) I will email the 2000 UK members of cantstopthesignal.co.uk.

I've finally stopped lurking and joined.
I'm in Bristol and was going to try to make the May screening. You mentioned below ticket sales haven't reached the minimum, so perhaps it would be best to move the booking to June? I could then gaurantee at least a handful of attendees besides myself!

MAJOR UPDATE!
Re: May 21st screening of 'Serenity'
Due to a scheduling error, the screening has had to be cancelled. The Cube microplex apologises for any inconvenience.
***
Those of you who bought tickets will get a refund from us very soon; the Cube are sending back our deposit. Once we have that safely in our bank account, refunds will be on their way.
In the mean time, keep June 24th (Saturday) free in your diary if you can. More news soon!

Hello ncr,
thanks for the offer if i do need help i'll give you a holler.
In the meantime i'd like to extend an invite to the shindig i'm organising in LEEDS. There's a thread somewhere on here and also on cantstopthesignal.co.uk.
Hope you can join us.

I'm based in Bradford and would definately be attending a Leeds June 23rd screening. I'm also willing and able to help in any way I can. I'm best with things that can be done by PC cos I work shifts and am not always around normal business hours. I also run www.browncoatevents.com which I am in the process of re-inventing and could use that to advertise/promote this and any other UK shindig/screening.

I will definately be attending SOMETHING on 23rd June. Not sure what yet! Has anything come of the talk of the London screening? If not I'll try to make it to Leeds and/ or Bristol.
What I want to know is what's going to be happening beyond another viewing of the film (always fun!). Will there be partying? Will there be dressing up and getting tipsy and much silly quoting of Firefly and dancing and carousing and meeting new people and making new friends and ... if the party really gets under way .. making a whole new generation of Firefly fans?!
Surely this is an opportunity not just to get together for a couple of hours but to really make a night to remember!

Cider, thanks for the offer. At the moment i'm waiting on the cinema PR people getting back to me.
We're looking at tickets being about £10 per person, but that's not definate yet.
Also there's plenty of pubs/bars/restaurants around. Once i know for definate about the screen exact time/date I'll let everyone know. If there's enough interest (25+) for something afterwards i'll look at hiring somewhere nearby for everyone to go.
In the meantime i'd like to invite you to the shindig mentioned in the above post. It's got it's own thread somewhere.
May 6th, 2PM, FireFly Bar, Park Row, LEEDS.
All welcome!!!

Gorram it! I'm going to be in London then at an important meeting I can't miss. Can you let me know when the next shindig you arrange will be?

Thanks for the invite but unfortunately I am working that day so can't make it - I would definately be interested in any other Leeds based shindigs though.

I heard someone mention SFX magazine.
Well on the 24th of June some members of the forum are having a private meet-up in Sheffield (We call our selves "Offtopicans" 'cause we post mostly in the off Topic section. Sad, we know
)
But most are "scouting" out the city for a good place to meet on the 23rd, so i'll mention them to bring along a copy of Serenity or Firefly just for fun (technically were all fans
and watch it many times) Thanks for the heads up
Cheers

Hey the screening in LEEDS is almost definite.
It's now got it's own thread.
It's at either 10am or midday on Saturday 24th June.
Sheffield browncoats are welcome too. We'd love to meet you.
Checkout the thread!!!

Phillipa,
I hope you were the person I was communicating with... we were discussing Kevin Smith if you are. I was trying to organise London but had a MAJOR computer crash (had to buy a new machine!) and have only just managed to get back online. Is your one still going ahead but now in June? I have lost contact with everyone and can't find the Yahoo Group list we were using to communicate.
Is there anything I can do to help your screening? I had a few media contacts organised.
Hope to hear from you soon.
One day.
One plan.
One army of Browncoats.
On June 23rd, we aim to misbehave.

Hello!
Sadly, when we floated the idea of a June screening in Bristol, we only got maybe four people interested (and I was counting you amongst them). We simply couldn't risk the best part of £300 on booking the cinema on that basis.
Keep hold of those media contacts please
