A Proposal So We Can All Start Moving Forward!

As recently appointed and annointed official FFF Event Leader, I hereby suggest the following proposal ~

• Kaele's Browncoat Army shall mark June 23rd as their Serenity Day and continue moving full speed ahead with their mission.

• FireflyFans website shall mark September 30th as their big, splashy day to celebrate Serenity.

Each group will of course be doing all kinds of shiny work throughout the Summer to reach out and grow our fan base, conduct all manner of Firefly/Serenity themed events for the fandom to enjoy, promote sales for FF/S licensed products, donate DVDs, and generally invigorate our fandom.

This suggestion is made with the sincere wish that we use our energies now to move forward in a positive and constructive direction. This solution will preserve the work that Kaele's Browncoat Army has already put into their campaign for June 23rd, and also still saves a shiny FFF sponsored Serenity celebration for September 30th. Each group can still share these days, this is only meant to suggest which day to choose as their "Big Day".

The serenityday website and FFF can cross-promote, and we encourage all fans to feel free to participate in as many of the events and promotions as they can. Two groups working on plans will double our efforts and greatly increase the successfulness of our campaigns!

Sound like a workable plan?

Yes, I do agree with you on that point. But since Kaele's group already has a website with the serenityday url, and they've made the logo thingy, well, looks like it's in the best interests of moving forward to just let that go.

But we can still use "Serenity" in the September 30th day name! Here's some possibilities:

• Serenity Day with Sprinkles
• Serenity Day - This Time it's Personal (I know, I know... it's been done... but there's a reason it's a classic...)
• 11th Hour Presents Serenity Day ~ An 11th Hour Production (For some reason, this one sounds really cool!)
• Serenity Day 2 - Electric Boogaloo (Did I mention I'm sleep deprived?)
• Serenity Day - Live Nude Girls (People WILL notice this title... )
• Serenity Day - Fight For the Sequel (Okay, not subtle... but hey, it is what we're thinking!)

So many ways to go with this one!

there can never be too many days to celebrate Firefly & Serenity in my opinion!

On the 23rd (to celebrate Joss' birthday) I'm expecting to go to a fund-raising (for Equality Now) screening of 'Serenity' in the Bay area, and I plan to buy extra copies of Firefly & Serenity to loan out to friends and family.

On Sept. 30th I will participate in any and all events or activities to celebrate the one year anniversary of our BDM ...

But we should avoid any "aggressive" vibes, the tone should more be like a celebration of all things Serenity, and a big THANKS to Universal for the BDM.
The sales and (hopefully) media coverage will speak for itself on the sequel part, if there is anything to say.

Because of the recent events I'm gonna point out that those are just my thoughts, I'm not about to start any hwai.

Oh, and BDM Day might be a bit too non-specific. Could be the Blind Dentists of Michigan Day for all I cared, if I were a non-'coat.

Well, the list is a bit of whimsy to lighten the mood... although that title will cause folks to look twice, or longer if we actually make good on the claim...

It's a fun title... but the September 30th day will be geared more to a "Thank You" to Universal, and celebration of the anniversary of the premiere of Serenity's general U.S. release.

We will of course still be working hard to encourage a BIG show of support via buying DVDs and other licensed merchandise. However, if the sales, letters and attention on that day does impress Universal, then that's fantastic. Ultimately the decision is up to them regarding sequels or continuation of the 'verse in another form, so it's better to take the pressure off the anniversary and just enjoy celebrating such a shiny day.

Don't know about the other folk, but I'm like totally joking with ALL my suggestions! Just havin' some fun.

The thread's main aim is to feel out if this proposal is something folks can get behind. The whole "which day is Serenity Day" debate is a speed bump on our road to the Summer campaign.

After a "yay" or "nay" is heard from Kaele's group, then we'll have a better idea if the plan is a go.

Never fear, a really cool, not at all dorky, name will be dreamed up for September 30th. We're just having fun now... I think?

I've always been partial to, "Big Damn Anniversary" with a thank you letter campaign and a drive to purchase all things Firefly/Serenity...(and donate them to libraries if you've already got stuff! www.whedonverse.org)

11th, now that you're official and all, I've got people assembling a mailing list of different websites. Once it's compiled, it is definitely headed your way. :) Part of the reason I wanted to start something was to help organize a coherent way to hit Browncoat related sites, especially in a place as large and varied as cyberspace. Now we can pass the list down the line for each event and notify the fandom in a consistent and methodical way.

Other suggestions for our Summer of Serenity:
**Firefly/Serenity clothing days - be a walking billboard!
**Approaching bookstores or movie stores to donate - I know Borders will do a percentage of sales during a specific time, so that's an idea for Sept., all procedes going to Equality Now!
**Printable magnets to download - purchase magnetic sheets from Staples (I got mine from KMart) and stick 'em anywhere you can!

I think this is a great idea, and a logical comprimise that respects all of the work and passion that people have exhibited towards this concept so far. I had originally volunteered to help canvass LJ, but backed off a little one the kerfufflage started. I'm a newbie to this fandom (although not to fandom in general) and I confess I was a little taken aback at the (for lack of a better word) nasty turn that the conversations took regarding what seemed like it should be a celebratory thing. 11thHour, I'm really exicted that you have suggested a positive way for moving forward, and that other people seem content with this solution.

So, to whomever is organizing whatever, I'm still happy to help pimp out the event/s on LJ at a variety of communities whenever we have set information and graphics.

I do agree with you. But, as far as I know, Kaele's Browncoat Army still wants to use "Serenity Day" for June 23rd. That name seems more logical for September 23rd, but their group has already moved ahead with plans and it seems that they will be keeping that name.

"Firefly Day" will be great to use at some point, and it's good to know we already have a domain for it. I'd LOVE to be a part of creating a special day for Firefly at some point... and the "FireflyFans" website would be the perfect sponsor!

We still have some time to come up with a good name for Sept. 30th. A name which includes Serenity and celebrates the 'verse... yet won't confuse or put-off those not aquainted with the movie.

We all will be working to attract new fans, so we need to keep in mind how the name will sound to the uninitiated.

Serenity Day would still work best, logically, but I understand that it may be too late to change the name for June 23rd.
Anyways, my suggestions are...

June 23rd: Serenity Day
Inbetween: Summer of Serenity
September 30th:

- Rise of Serenity (in sales, too, and it shows that it's not over, but just beginning)

- Serenity Rising (more or less the same)

But it doesn't have a DAY in there. We can't have "Serenity Day" and then "Serenity Something Day", but on the other hand we need to point out that it's a day after the summer campaign, or it's gonna look like a confusing mishmash. That's a funny word, mishmash.

I was just thinking about Serenity Appreciation Day for a second, but that would be SAD, lol.

Of course, names for June 23rd and September 30th could be switched, if still possible and agreeable.

So ultimately, I'd like

June 23rd: Serenity Rising
Inbetween: Summer of Serenity / Serenity Summer Campaign
September 30th: Serenity Day.
