My wife & I we're having an interesting conversation last night while waiting for Lord of the Rings to start. We we discussing the now defunct Enterprise thread. So she asked so what other Sci-fi shows do you Browncoats watch.
The only other that we watch is Stargate-SG1. In fact i just read the transcripts from season 1 thru season 6 episode 3. That way I'mm all caught up with what's showing on the telly. Not only that we record Sg1 every Sunday night because we're at church. It's quite a tradition now.
So the question is, "What other Sci-fi do you watch & why?" no flaming just asking."

I used to watch the X-Files, but now my enthusiam for the show has dropped to zero; I'm now using my old X-Files VHSs for recording eps of 24. Sometimes I watch Farscape when my aunt and uncle tape it for me; it's such a strange and complex show that it's hard to jump into, but the quality of the program is undeniable, and Scorpius is a really cool villain. Mainly I like to play sci-fi and fantasy computer games... does that count?
Oh, yeah, and I like a little program called "FIREFLY" as well! The shock!

After the last couple episodes where what's his face is up walking around and having conferences with the president after getting shot! in the neck! that they've treaded right into science fiction.We'll watch X-Files and ST:TNG in rerun.

If so, then also Buffy in rerun.
I really enjoy The Dead Zone and hope they start showing season three pretty soon. We'll watch Dead Like Me when that comes back on, too.
My newest favorite show is Carnivàle. It's not science fiction, per se, but it's definitely some kind of genre tv-- most people compare it to Twin Peaks. Most Firefly fans I've talked to about it really, really enjoy it. And its second season is supposed to start airing 'late 2004' according to the hbo press releases.
I've noticed that many people love watching SG-1. I've never seen more than I few seconds of commercial, but I'd like to hear about why people dig it.

For my wife & I it's all about characters. I like the alien stories of X-files. Loved the ep where the greatest baseball players were all aliens. Who'd a thunk it. We lost tough with Smallville, but hope to watch the DVD's a friend has. Never tried 24. Love Sg-1. Next to Firefly & Sg-1 the only other show we really loved was Season 1 ONLY of Dawson's Creek. Ok I'm not allowed to be banned for that. Once agin it was about characters. Tried Andromeda. Why??? and we really dug some of Voyager, so disappointed when all was said & done. Love the thread responses.

Me too - if the characters aren't well written, well acted or show some kind of development, a series loses my interest pretty quick. Andromeda, case in point.
I like Stargate SG-1, Angel, Smallville, Jake 2.0, although I'm not saving anything. I used to save everything, but it became too frustrating since networks like to pre-empt with sports so much. Reruns can be a wonderful thing.
I also like shows that have a supernatural aspect to them - Joan of Arcadia is fun that way because you never know what that intial request is going to bring in the end.
I'm also greatly anticipating the release of Carnivale on DVD. Not having HBO, I feel I'm seriously missing out on that one.
Generally, if a new show has a sci-fi/fantasy/supernatural aspect, I'll give it a look-see. Since the end of Firefly, however, I'm determined not to fall for anything. So if I ever get overly-cynical about anything, now you know why.

I hate sci-fi with a passion, with the one exception being firefly. I became interested in firefly more for the western aspects of it.

Babylon 5 any chance I get. Best Sci-Fi I have ever seen-Firefly is every bit equal to it. Both make me think.
Andromeda, because it is such hokey, poorly written, badly acted CRAP. The writers should have their hands broken so they are incapable of using any form of writing instrument or computer. The corportate sphincter squeezing out that crap and backing that show should be bankrupted so we can be assured that they will never again be able to provide it. If Televisions were toilets, we would be swimming in crap. It still amazes me that it is in its fourth season.
Enterprise, because Andromeda makes it look good.
Alias, which I guess qualifies as Sci-Fi. Fun to watch, appeals to my escapism.

If Twilight Zone is Sci-Fi, then that. Nothing else, really. Occasionally Enterprise, during baseball because the Simpsons wasn't on.
For movies, I love The Fifth Element. Leeloo is so shiny. Back to the Future, Young Frankenstein (Well, it's almost Sci-Fi), and I don't know, really.
I also enjoy CSI and Monk. And Casablanca and Roman Holiday.

watched a lot of b5 while it aired (now i got dvd's of it) 2001:a space odyssey is good, as well as apollo 13 (contact, with jodi foster is worthwhile). most of star treks with borg storylines were good. andromeda, that show is wrong on so many levels. long story short, it's a mess! sg1 is a decent sci-fi show. i like rda from mcgyver! i'd be remiss for of course not mentioning FIREFLY! enterprise is a half baked hodge-podge of junk! (it's like something gene roddenberry threw up in the toilet and wouldn't flush down). liked the first dune mini-series, second one not so good. the ALIENS movies were oh so very good. first predator movie had interesting points. anybody READ any good sci-fi lately? recommmendations?
p.s. how could i forget FARSCAPE. that show will be missed!

Just found out from sci-fi wire that Tru Calling is adding a seven episode arc with Jason Priestley during February sweeps.
Guess Fox wants to kill off that show too!

Hmmm, well, I think 24 is an strangely warped parallel universe that in many ways resembles ours, yet is ... different. That's Science Fiction all the way.

I have an affinity for most of what David Weber has written (I have seen some negative comments recently-I dont recall where) , as well as John Ringo. Some Dean Koontz, as I feel that some of his stuff borders on Sci-Fi.

My husband reads David Weber. Also, the "Bolo" series of books. He's much more sci-fi than I am. I prefer fantasy, i.e. Laurell K. Hamilton's "Anita Blake, Vampire Executioner" series and JD Robb's "In Death" series (she has a really interesting take on what the world would be like in the future). As far as TV shows, we like Enterprise, SG-1 & Angel, in addition to a lot of mainstream shows (CSI, West Wing, etc.).
Does anyone remember the mini-series "V" that ran during the 80's? Man, was I hooked on it! LOL.

Yeahehe, "V", I remember that back in the day, I was pretty keen on it too at the time. Its funny though, I saw it again a year or so ago and it was nowhere near as good as I remember. One thing though, I reckon Firefly WILL be ageless, it will still be excellent in 20 yrs or so.

TV sci-fi shows I like are:
Stargate (good stories, great special effects, a hot babe and Mcguyver...can't go wrong )
Star Trek (they don't have any of the cool stuff from TNG but I still like it)
Tremors (loved the original movie and the series has good stories)
Hmmm, that's about it. We need more (new) sci-fi on tv.

/ Stargate SG-1: I catch the affiliate airing of this (one season behind) since I'm unable to catch the Friday night eps on Sci-Fi channel.
/ Smallville: it got really interesting in the last season when they had less of the "monster of the week" episodes and focused more on Lex Luthor's eventual decent into evil
/ Enterprise: it improved just a tad bit when it started the whole Xindi story arc and now I want to see where the show will go
/ Angel: got hooked on it during its third season, I too wonder how the W&H aspect of its fifth season will play out
/ South Park: I still get a kick out of their twisted humor at current events; the latest being the ep where the kids are in Canada and meet up with Saddam (complete with his new "bum" look) aired just 4 days after it was on the news!
/ Carnivale: from day one this show has just amazed me. It is so dark and filled with imagery that I usually re-watch it to pick up on the minute details. I am eagerly awaiting its second season sometime in aught-four

for the xindi storyline on enterprise: check out the second prequel movie for star wars and compare the similarities to what's currently happening on enterprise. what a rip-off trek series have become! dumb dialogue, women in cat-suits, and wimpy male leads! counting the hours 'till they cancel this ill-conceived show!

Star Trek- xindi attack Earth because they think sometime in the future humans destroy their race.
Star Wars second prequel movie, Clone Wars- old geezer tricks everyone into big war so he can obtain absolute control.
One episode of Stargate did make me say WTF though. They fly a fighter to destroy a new weapon on a spaceship by blowing up it's exhaust vent. I was just waiting for O'neal to joke about The Force being with him.

Currently, Carnivale and Angel.
Shows that live on in DVD land... Buffy, The X-Files, Hercules, Xena and Twin Peaks. Out of all of them, only X-Files qualifies as true Sci-Fi.
But Firefly is the best of them all!

All the sci-fi I like is old, Firefly has been the only thing this century I've really gotten into. Seems to me the the 90's was something of a golden age of Sci-fi. There always seemed to be something cool coming out,this centuy with the exception of Firefly not so much.
What I've got on DVD and video includes Babylon 5, Farscape, DS9, Voyager, Red Dwarf, original Trek, Doctor Who, Space 1999, Battlestar Galactica (1978 only thank you) The Prisioner, X-Files, Buck Rogers(1980's version total cheese but strangely enjoyable in an embaracing Velvetta sort of way) and that about covers it. I enjoy other stuff as well but that's the only stuff I bothered to buy pre-recorded. I got Twin Peaks as well but it's a bit of a strech to call it Sci-Fi.
The only thing still on the air I'm likely to get into is Jeriamiah,(a heinous misspelling? I don't know) I've never seen it but I'm a big JMS fan and it's comming to DVD this week.And in the tradition of everything cool getting cancelled this century it's likely to be cancelled soon as well from what I here.

Where I am there's not a lot of options for new sci-fi. We do have a sci-fi/fantasy/horror channel called Space but it's mostly syndicated stuff & re-runs unless they're showing a made-for-tv movie or a mini-series.
The only new sci-fi show I watch is Enterprise and I almost stopped watching it until they started this darker story line and I'll watch Angel too.
I watch Stargate SG-1 & Farscape when I get the chance and I own Seasons 1-3 (soon 4) of Babylon 5 and of course Firefly. Interestingly enough they've been playing Firefly on Space including the previously unaired episodes.

Well, I don't watch too much TV as I'm pretty picky in what I watch. The last drama series I've been full-heartedly attatched to was Miracles, which you all know was cancelled prematurely by ABC. Be sure to check out MiraclesHQ ( www.miracleshq.com) for more info on the show and the campaign to save it.
Other than that, I also liked Jake 2.0 (which also go the axe... why does this always happen to me!?) and I was also a X-Files fan, though I haven't bought any of the DVD sets. All of my television interests are sort of focused to save Miracles at the moment... =P

Its one of the many running jokes on Stargate that O'Niell has never actually seen Star Wars. He makes passing references to it---"My name's not Kirk. Its Skywalker."---"I thought we were going with Red Leader on this one?"---but he never gets really clever SW lines.
In a season 5 episode, Jack and Teal'c show up at Sam's house with Star Wars, and we learn that Jack's never seen it----and its one of Teal'c's favorite movies.
Anyway, Stargate is the current "big thing". Its best to see it from the beginning, in order----seeing it piecemeal, you will probably understand the basic plot, but you miss out on scores of running jokes.
Also, I probably said this above, but the best new show of this season is unquestionably Joan of Arcadia. I tried Jake 2.0 and Tru Calling, and niether of them was as good as Joan.

When a was younger, like 13-16 yrs old, I loved anything science fiction. I use to love Space Above and Beyond. Lately though, like in the past four years or so I have moved away from science fiction, because often in science fiction it becomes more about the story than the characters. I find shows like Earth Final Conflict and Andromeda a little corny (sorry to all their fans, don't mean to offend, just my own personal opinion). To me, Firefly is one of those extremely rare shows in science fiction that anyone can enjoy whether they like sci-fi or not.
By the way, if anyone was looking to buy a dvd set anytime soon I highly recommend Alias. Alias is another example of great tv. To me it is right up there with Firefly.
Also, need honest opinions here, should I go ahead buy the first season of 24 on dvd?

I'm just now seeing that for the first time. I got tired of hearing about this show I'd never seen, so I downloaded the entire first season off Bittorrent. Its good. Not brilliant, but definately good.

EFC....well, seasons 2-4 qualify as "a little corny". Season 1 is actually quite solid, and season 5 is unwatchable.

Unless you've got something against arc-intensive shows, then definately yes. 24 is a great show, and season 1 is the best its done----especially the first 13 episodes.

I thought farscape was clever and original. I'm not really a big SG-1 fan, but when the show got moved to Showtime I thought it was alright.

^You mean moved to Scifi? It started out on Showtime.
If you want my advice, don't make a judgement about SG1 until you've seen it from the beginning. I've lost count of the number of people I know who were lukewarm or outright hostile to SG1 after seeing some random eps, but became fans after seeing it in order.

Farscape, Buffy, a little bit of Angel, SG-1 when I can, Futurama,and a little show many of you might not of even heard of, it didn't last very long, but it's called "Firefly". 
and after that, I'm really only a maniac about "Six Feet Under"...I'm probably forgetting something though.

Stargate SG-1 is a good show, I've also become a fan of the new Battlestar Galactica, Dune, Children of Dune, Dark Angel, Andromeda and Firefly of course.

Firefly is by far my favorite, but I also like Angel, The Lost World and Starhunter. Angel needs to be around for a sixth season. What's wrong with the WB?

Right now, the only show on the air I watch with any regularity is Joan of Arcadia, but I'll keep an eye out for Wonderfalls which starts soon.
I've seen a few eps each of Tru Calling and Jake 2.0 but was not impressed much. Haven't watched either Andromeda or Enterprise after about three eps each in their first seasons. Really lame retreads, desperately clutching to the memory and legacy of Roddenberry.
I watch SG1 occasionally, but really wish I had had Showtime when it began, or had been aware of when SciFi began running the first season eps.
I had gone on record in a review at my site that Babylon 5 is the best SF that has ever been on television, but in the last year something else arrived that caught my attention, and if it had been given the chance just might have pushed B5 out of that top spot. I'm talking about Firefly of course. I am confident that I will be seeing more of it in the future, then later I can tell you whether it actually beats out B5.
Other than that, I have fond memories of several other genre shows that I would like to see back on the air, or else get DVD sets of them released. American Gothic, Brimstone and Dark Skies all deserved a better break than they got, the break that Firefly seems to have going for it.

some Space: Above and Beyond, but I never could figure out what its timeslot was
Buffy and Angel, if you want to count that
I stopped watching X-Files regularly just after the movie came out
Twilight Zone
Cowboy Bebop
Futurama
I watch all of these on a pretty irregular basis.
I have to agree with whoever noted the importance of the Western aspects of Firefly. I love westerns, and they can incorporate imporatant mythological aspects of American culture. And they are usually about cowboys or old west outlaws, who, along with pirates and bikers, are about as free as you can get.

I'm with you on most of these shows. I have Futurama and Firefly on DVD, but spent many of formative years watching ST:TNG. Lost interest in the X-files after Fight the Future. And Cowboy Bebop is my favorite anime of all time--and shares some elements with Firefly, which is probably why I took such a liking to Firefly when it aired. :D

I'm watching the last of SG1 at the moment, looking forward to Atlantis and also to Carnivale which has been shown in the UK yet but is apparently very good. I loved Babylon 5 (except the last season) which was amazing as was Farscape for the life of me I dont get why that was cancelled, I Like all Star Trek and find Enterprise this season(3) much improved. Gave up on Andromeda in season 2, I also liked Joh Doe which was amusing yet again not renewed. I liked Buffy, Angel and I tolerate Charmed (Kids!) and I cant say I'm impressed by Tremors at all. Or much else on the Sci Fi channel for that matter. And dont even mention Mutant X Aaaaarhhh!

Quite fond of Firefly (of course), Babylon 5 (new material is on the way!), Stargate SG-1, and Jeremiah - which I think is going to get "Foxed" by Showtime. In other words, IMO it's another excellent show that's probably going to get cancelled.

I set my VCR for three things a week:
Angel, Smallville, and Stargate SG-1. Don't have Showtime so I haven't been able to catch Jeremiah, although now that it's on DVD I'd love to catch it. Babylon 5 was my favorite show until Firefly came along, hence the screen name, so it's gotta be good.

I just got Jerimiah on DVD trust me when I say it is so worth the money and you'll be happy to know nearly half the episodes are written by JMS.Nine out of nineteen to be exact. And some new Babylon 5 should be comming out soon.
