How about Oakland/SF California?

It just occurred to me that a good place to have a screening might be the Orinda Theatre in (you guessed it) Orinda, CA. I know it's a bit of a drive for most of the Bay Area, but it is right at the Orinda BART station and anyway, it's just a thought, because I always go to movies there. It's so much less crowded than other theatres in Oakland (it's only 5 minutes from Oakland via the Caldecott tunnell) so I wonder if they might be more reasonably priced seeing as how they don't get sellout crowds all that often and might welcome the business.

That's about the typical level of planning for "pre-planning" on the site. More or less anything definitely higher than "bandied about" gets listed, because that lets us list, well, many. Heh.

The NYC screening is going to be a secret screening. No one will be told where the screening is going to be held until it is over.

The only info I think that is available right now is that the NYC screening is in Pre-Planning mode and there is a Browncoat yahoo group that you could read posts about what they are doing.

Just got back from the theater in Albany today to pick up tickets for me and co-workers and asked them to tell me how many had been sold.
The grand total thus far: 45. And that was after I bought 12.

So... uh... just saying. ;) That leaves 2755 seats open.

I just received a call from the manager at the movie theater we had reserved. The screening at the AMC Carolina Pavilion 22 has been cancelled. The manager told me that she did not know that it was a Friday when she set all of this up and that they would not make enough money from us. Sounds familiar.

I have called many different venues but they either said no or priced us out. Therefore, I am passing the torch. If anyone in Charlotte or the surrounding area can procure us a theater then please do so!

Last year Toronto and Vancouver kicked and screamed and were even close to rude when the first 2 prescreenings came and went and there was no love for Canada. And lo, we became part of the magical Happy Birthday to Joss screenings on June 23rd.
So, this time around, Montreal and Edmonton are joining us in the special screenings.
In Toronto we have 450 seats to fill. Come to lovely Toronto!

I am destraught Anonymous1, i have two problems:
A) Tickets need to be pre brought for the 200 minimum mark and they need to be brought with a credit card which i lack.
C) Forest Hill is a distance which i normally wouldnt complain i spend a couple of hours on public transport just to go to the city for a day but its gonna be late and gettin back in one piece may be a problem.

* what a pain but i'll try.

Note yes im aware the is no B) point that is coz it flew away sorry

I haven't read all of the posts in this thread, sorry, I just don't have time!, but have those of you who are organizing the screenings in your area thought about contacting the press?

They tend to be all over Charity screenings, and groups of rabid fan geeks (to the press, that is all we are, but it can be used to our advantage here) would be something they are likely to cover.

It would be a way to get coverage out there either by a short piece on tv or in the newspaper. Free publicity. . . and a way for Universal to take notice.

I would love to see Serenity on the big screen. However, "Equality Now" supports "reproductive rights" (i.e., loves abortion) and will not get my funds from attending this screening. Is this not an issue with anyone else? Who gives a shit about what Whedon's favorite charity is? His role is merely to amuse.
