Calling all Central Scotland Browncoats!
Comicgirl spoke to the GFT cinema and we could book the cinema on the Sunday (June 25th - we know but hey!). We need numbers before we take any action - what would be really good would be 100 people willing to pay £10 each!

Maybe that's asking a lot, but that's the situation we are in! So get posting and start to grab your mates!

PS. Comicgirl is going to speak to Cineworld tomorrow too, but I thought it best to get this post up asap!

I'm figuring people just ain't all that interested. As I've posted on a couple of threads, SerenityinScotland and I are trying to organise a showing for Glasgow, and we've approached both the GFT and Cineworld, and they're both willing, but in order to book we'd need an idea of numbers and they'd need to know so they can secure the rights to show the film again. But so far there's been no response. Looks like the Glasgow screening could end up being a dvd and a big tv...

I just posted on both the Glasgow and Edinburgh University Sci-Fi/Fantasy Societies boards promoting the screening (well, Edinburgh as soon as they let me join the board ). I put my 'references' as cantstoptheserenity.com and this site. Wasn't sure whether to put cantstopthesignal.co.uk down instead, but I feel this place gives a better flavour of the 'verse for anyone who was curious. I asked any interested people to post on the threads I created so they are worth keeping an eye on.

I was just about to suggest contacting the universities! :)

One big thing to let people know is that it's for charity. A lot of people who wouldn't normally be interested will suddenly pitch in if you let them know what a great cause Equality Now is.

May be worth posting on there as well. We have had a couple of shidigs which were great.

Firefly bar is actually called Rufus T Firefly's (!) and is on Hope Street. I've never actually been, just stumbled across the name on Google. It's probably a complete dump...so I will have a look before June 23rd.

Firefly or "rufus" as most people call it is an ok pub playing msotly rock orientated music. It's alright, but i probably wouldn't go there as i know some of the bar staff and i'm not on best terms with the manager lol.

Ok so here's how i see it as far as who has posted on this thread.

That means we've got anywhere from 12 - 15 thinking about going. If we can get about 30 atleast to go then i think this could happen. The GFT is pretty big, it holds way more, but 30 + would be good going. Does anyone know if there's a forum board for forbidden planet in town? Serenity inscotland, it might be an idea to ask if you can put up a flier in there also, that's where all the series/scary (j/k) browncoats probably are.

Your numbers are prob about right, there might be a couple more browncoats over on cantstopthesignal.co.uk including some rascal called Euan who was confusing people for a while. We are now going for Cineworld as a venue - they can offer us an 80 seat cinema for cheaper and they were apparently nicer human beings. I think a decision is going to get made before Friday, so we can start getting the word out if it's go...
The idea of Forbidden Planet is a good one - also maybe the city centre video stores (as movie fans should be aware of 'Serenity'), plus any big stores that might be kind enough to display a charity flier. I thought maybe if I went and begged Borders/Waterstones they might let me slap one up in the Sci-fi books department. Maybe the same idea with Virgin/HMV for dvd sections. The worst they can do is say no right?

PS. Thadeuss, nothing wrong with a disagreement with a bar manager. "Too drunk? Waddya mean too drunk?"

Sounds great serenityinscotland. I'd love to see serenity on the big screen again! How much would the screen at cineworld cost if you don't mind me asking? It's just if we are way short of the numbers i could hopefully persuade maybe about 5 others to go that haven't seen firefly. Hmm, think i'll lend out my box set so they can get aquainted with it. I'm sure if you ask,cineworld will let you put a promo poster up at their cinema, we could also just put them up around town, hell most of the PR staff for clubs and bars do that anyway. Is thee not also a scifi themed bar at the cross end of sauchiehall street?

I'd be extremely interested in attending this, but as I am in Edinburgh and have to leave for a 4 day trip v. early on the Monday it would depend on the timing. If it was early to midafternoon I would definitely try to be there, but an evening event would be impossible I'm afraid.

Signed up specifically to add me and Him Indoors to the long list, if this is still going ahead - I have an appointment at three, but I should be able to make it to an evening screening.

It'd be my first time seeing Serenity on the big screen - I'm one of those dirty 'Oh! Whedonverse for £19.99 in Virgin Megastores, you say?' converts, and I didn't get a chance to see the film the first time around.

It's not going ahead sorry - the *swears vehemently in chinese* woman at Cineworld didn't come up with the goods. I posted on cantstoptheserenity.com a couple days ago with the bad news. I still want a screening though! I'm going to get a gorram screening in Glasgow if it kills me! I'm going to go and meet this woman in person this time. So we are off for now, but I'll be back!!
