The title asks it.
Give up all TV now and in the future (fiction, that is) for a seven year run of Firefly BEGINNING NOW!

Would ya do it?

...Lost...The 4400...CSI....New BSG....
All that and more gone....?

(You could keep what ya already have on DVD...)

In a heartbeat Chrisisall

I don't think I could do it. I love my House and Veronica Mars too much, especially the latter. And while I may love Firefly more, I don't think I could bear that, especially since it would mean that after Firefly ended there would be no more TV, period. Except reruns. I need newness, on occasion.

Number one: The other shows I watch would go to DVD--I'd just catch it after.

Number two: It'd free up more time if I just had to focus on Firefly once a week!

Number three: Aside from a few gems--what is of quality out there anyway?

No.

I love Firefly, and I mean that in an actual love sense of the word not just the term people use so loosely, but to stop new shows from being born, to do to current shows what was done to us? No.

Somewhere out there in someone's mind is an idea that could become a show, it's a worthy successor to Firefly, something that would be just as good. Even though I probably wouldn't care about it the way I do Firefly it deserves a chance.

It deserves a better chance than we were given and I wouldn't take that away.

I think the point was that you couldn't watch house on the internet if you made the choice. I don't know if this applies to you, but I think as a general rule if you need a loophole then the answer is, "No."

It has occured to me that though I would not do it myself, for reasons I already stated, I wouldn't mind one bit if someone else did.

I mean I wouldn't do it, but I'd be far from heartbroken were it done. Where does that put me?

Seven years might be a little long; how about "However long it can reasonably be while staying good and not jumping any sharks"? I know, I know... But every show does it eventually if it's on too long. Maybe it would make it seven years. That would be shiny.

I love Firefly. I really, really do. It's one of the best things that's happened to me. Honest.

The problem here is, you would be asking me to give up House. Aside from Firefly, that is my heroin. Hugh Laurie ranks second in outright coolness after our captain. I could give up Lost, Bones, Las Vegas, and The 4400 (even though the new season looks really shiny). But House? That strong a person I am not.

So I suppose I could give up almost everything. Just not House.

I'd have to go with "yes". Especially if the blackout applied only to fiction series (which includes reality shows, IMHO). We'd still have our sports, news, science and historical documentaries, and This Old House (no, not that House).

For those with addictions to other shows: if Firefly were the only thing on the air, a lot of good actors would be looking for recurring roles along with our BDHs. I could imagine Hugh Laurie showing up as Simon's old mentor at the medacad, possibly now on the outs with the Alliance.

Oh, the story lines...

I love Simon, I really do, but I don't think he would have survived a day working for House. Not that the captain is much better in that regard, but I truly think it would drive Simon insane. On the other hand, I can see House on the outs with the Alliance. He never has been one for following orders.

There's plenty of true Browncoats, chrisisall. But is it really fair to do away with some of the few good TV shows that are left? How about we get rid of all the truly bad television that's eating up the airwaves, like American Idol (or for that matter, reality shows in general), soap operas, stuff like The Insider or Entertainment Tonight. When you think about how much crap there is on TV and how much is spent on said crap, you don't have to get rid of the good shows to watch Firefly, because the money spent is enough to relight a thousand seasons. There is a middle ground here, and one can still be a good and loyal Browncoat while wanting to keep other shows.

Sacrifice, it's something that can be difficult for people to understand, and asking someone to make one, even for the sake of something they love - good luck. Your "Seven seasons of FF would have changed the world", is right on the money. What a good change it would have been...I'll be daydreaming about that for awhile. I myself LOVE Veronica Mars, House, and have just started with BSG and the 4400. I'd give them (and ALL other TV)up for seven years in exchange for a meager 14 new episode run of Firefly. Love and sacrifice, I'm with you Chrisisall.

No problem for me. I would give it all up in a second. Of course, this must be tempered with the knowledge that the only show I currently watch is Scrubs. I only get NBC (no cable) at home, so Scrubs would be the sacrificial lamb. I could do that.

If all TV shows stopped being made except Firefly? No.

It wouldn't be fair to all the other actors, crew, producers, writers, etc. to just tell them that their shows have been unexpectedly canceled due to some incomprehensible decision at their network, now would it? What kind of imbicilic creepy network could possibly be that inconsiderate anyway? (Oh yeah, that would be FOX, wouldn't it?)

If only I had to stop watching all TV shows except Firefly? ABSO-FRIGGIN-LUTELY!

My initial response was "NO." I enjoy a lot of other shows.

I enjoyed Serenity, but not nearly as much as Firefly. I felt several of the characters were off in comparison with Firefly.

But then I got to thinking about how many times I rewatch any shows that I have on DVD (LOST, Dark Angel, Monk, Seinfeld, The L Word). Then I thought about how many times I have rewatched my favorite episodes of Firefly and laughed at the same line I've heard 9 times before or caught something subtle that I had missed 9 times before.

I definately changed my mind. I vote "YES." I'd miss LOST the most, but I'd get by OK.

One thing I meant to write but forgot:

I'd be a lot happier with my choice if the seven seasons picked up after the first, and pretended that Serenity never happened b/c Serenity contradicts Firefly, most notably with Simon's rescue of River.

And it just wouldn't be the same without Wash. I could live without Wash. Shows that are willing to kill off popular characters seem to ring more true. It's dangerous out in the black. But I'd miss him.

Of course. I've re-watched the 4 FF DVD's and Serenity more times than any other TV show and/or movie. Firefly is the first TV show that I rented first, watched, and immediately went out and bought just so I could re-watch them all again whenever I wanted. Same thing with Serenity.

Yes, I have the 1st 2 seasons of Northern Exposure, but that was before I signed up for Netflix.

I like other shows (24, The Unit, etc.), but none of them have the writing, dialog, characters, actors, special effects, plot lines, etc., etc., and etc., of Firefly.

If Firefly was brought back, I'd hope that other writers and networks would strive to improve their shows.

It has a name, I call it Vera.

Okay, if I could still watch the Cubs (what can I say? I'm a masochist) and other sports, and if the other TV would come back after 7 years, so Joss could come up with another great show, then I'm in.

Uh, now what? Where do we sign?

Hmmm...since Lost is kinda pissing me off...I could probably live without it...

No Doctor Who or Robot Chicken though? Nope. Sorry. Couldn't do it.

Without a doubt, I would give up every bit of television for more Firefly. I would give up "Lost" (as much as I love that show), SG1, BSG, all of it.
