I guess I'm just fine but okay so I'm drowning in a sea of uncertainity! I love him/he is not the one for me! Somedays I want to hurt everyone.
Functioning on this level is difficult. I don't have to worry about anyone's feelings but my own and no one is worring about me. That sort of teamwork has died! I'm happy......or am I? I'm just fine I think?
Yes this is the manner in which my mind is working currently!

Oh honey tell me about it!
I've seriously had thoughts like "Just walk through that door and everything will be forgiven and we'll be fine..." and then follows "No we bloody well won't be fine you cockbite! I'll slap you till you spin if you dare show up here!" Then with the "Who am I kidding? Never gonna see him again anyway! And he was obviously all wrong for me. But I love him so. And I miss him.
And dammit why doesn't he miss me??"
Blah
See I can't start thinking about it or, like you and probably everyone else, I stop making any sense and just worry about what it was that made everything suck.
There should be some kind of "Dumped" support group where we can work all those tangled thoughts out!

I guess we have a semblance of that here, though

I broke up with him. It's so hard to think of or explain mostly I just want to bash my head into walls and be done with it. I want him to be happy and then I'm angry he is okay? I suck I'm confused I'm pacing in crazy cirles.
This is hard! It finally feels real and it's really scary!

Well, I'm proud of you. I know you were getting unhappy there, so it's good I think. I can't tell you if or when the hurt will go away, though. But hey, we're girls, right? We supposedly have nine times the pain tolerance... Wait, that's for physical pain. Um...
Boys are stupid anyway!
Boys are stupid. Throw rocks at them!
I had that on a postcard once, after my first semi-major breakup. Always made me feel better. Also a really tight sexy shirt with a Pinochio picture on it that said "Boys Lie". I kinda regret getting rid of that, now.
You know what we need, of course? (other than finding smart men to replace the stupid boys, of course) We need ice cream! Or maybe s'mores flambe.

You... don't like chocolate? But... it's chocolate. I mean, in a way you're lucky because almost nothing will make you fat faster than too much chocolate. But for me, next to sex, chocolate is the best thing on the planet. It and cherry vanilla ice cream. Something about the creaminess... I dunno, I'm a strong believer in the phrase "everything's better with cream." (take that however you like)
Gah! Creamy chocolate sounds good right now!

I used to have a postcard of a drowned looking kitten with the words 'hang on in there' underneath.
I'm afraid thats about the best advice ican offer, even if it is a little trite.
I also had a fridge magnet with the message 'Before you criticise someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticise them you are a mile away and have their shoes.'
(bu bu ba dum tssh)
then there was 'we must have courage, faith and chocolate fudge cake'
and finally 'if you want the best seat in the house you'll have to move the cat.'
eh, that one doesn't really help much.
Ok, to distract you.
As someone mentioned up there ^ Men in make up, yes or no?
I vote yes. I'm not talking bases and blusher and stuff. But on the right guy, eyeliner is just drool worthy, and you can't beat a clam rocker, glitter ahoy! I mean i'm talking here of glam rockers. Turning up for work or to mow the lawn in a rainbow shaded lightning stike on your forehead is not the way to go, and eyeliner is a night time look, but ieven like dark nail polish on guys.
Saying that, its really pissing me off the way the cosmetics industry, having succeeded in implanting paranoia and feelings of aesthetic inadequecy in the female half of the population is now trying to reduce the men to mirror avoiding wrinkle phobes with low self esteem and cosmetic induced credit card debt (whats next - Hey two year olds! your wrists a little chubby? One to many dimples? buy our nasty chemical potion with its pretty packaging and inflated price tag before you hit five and its too late for you!)(Loreal i'm looking at you you 3rd world abusing animal abusing paying customer abusing fat-cat benefiting amoral slimeball sons of hellbitches)
*cough* 'scuse me.
Any way. men, to summarise - make up -eyeliner, special occaision rock god excess yes. Girly base and concealer, bronzing and fake tan (other than on a Queen)No way in hell.
In a related question - clothing, do you like guys who dress up? Are you into saville row suits? crazy Wossy confections? trackies and trainers? Or do guys who pay too much attention to what they wear (beyond is it clean and is it whole) freak you out.
I personally love a guy who takes time to build up a distinctive style, and who is adventurous in his dress - i think its a wonderful indicator of taste and personality and shows of passion and creativity, even if its sometimes a little out there.
But syaing that I wouldn't totally discount a jeans and t shirt kinda guy.
Yey! Its Tristans missus! See you in September!

I have to say, I love men in eyeliner. For some reason I think it looks better on men than on women; I have no idea why. And maybe a little accentuating blush in fleshy tones, too.
I also like a man who knows how to dress. Nothing too elaborate or anything, but looking good. Nice pants, clean shirt free of wrinkles, that kind of thing. Also, I'm a sucker for fishnet on either gender. Fishnet is the sexiest fabric ever invented. As long as it's not overdone, I would say the gothy look can be fabulously sexy. This of course includes eyeliner and black fingernails.
There's something! Nails! I take supreme care of mine; I keep them as long as I can with smooth edges. Smooth edges is very important. I would love to meet a man who took that kind of care with his nails because it can be so sensual. Usually when a guy tries to run his nails along my skin or otherwise scratch me, his nails catch and it ends up hurting. Any men who would make sure their nails were really smooth? Or do ya'll even think about that?

I second the makeup question to the men. I never wear wakeup, although I know i look a whole lot better with some eyeliner. It's just... work.
Eyeliner on men? I may have already shared... indie rocker with black boots, cut off shorts, a sparkly shirt and runny black eyeliner. He was alos about 5'4", but I was soooo in love. *sigh* He had a girlfriend who could break me in half, so no luck.
copilot: I let one go two years ago, and it was really difficult! I thought about him a lot! But I knew I could better, and staying with killed my chance of ever having something better. Hang in there, it will get better!!
tristan and jsusagi: you both are too fun! I agree about the long hair, jsusagi, as long as it not all nappy. Get a trim every once in a while guys, so it stays nice and soft!
Men crying - if a man's really got something to cry about, I find it touching if he'll cry around me, like he trusts me enough.
I don't cry much, but I had an interesting experience a few months ago. An idiot in a minivan turned in front of my little Jeep Wrangler (on a highway, going fast!) and I was absolutely sure there was badness coming. Squealy brakes, skidding sideways... we missed by inches. I got home (this was less than a mile from my house) and laid on the floor in hysterics for like 10 minutes. It was very bizarre. Excellent venting though, I felt pretty good after.
Anyway, that was my tangent for the day.

Hang in there CoPilot. I'm sure you'll be fine as you've made a decision that many people never make. You're not settling for being in love only.
Topics at hand:
I am fond of men who know how to dress for the ocassion. I don't like having to tell someone that jeans and sneakers aren't appropriate attire for some events. But, I DO love a man in NICE, well fitting, stylish jeans and a nice fitted white or black t-shirt. Das is good.
Dressing up should mean more than khakis and a shirt with a collar. I've met far too many men with that definition. Spend some money on a couple pairs of flat front, well fitted slacks and you're good. There's nothing like well fitting slacks. There's a time when a man's arse is pretty pleasing.
And remember, if you can get away with only one suit in your life, make sure it fits well. Fit can make a less expensive suit seem more so.
Manicured hands? I can't really expect anything as my hands have a tendency to show some wear and tear. I may sit in an office all day, but my hands don't show it. I'm actually a little embarassed by them, especially when I go dancing (swing dancing that is). But, working with horses and the manual labor that goes with it means less ladylike hands. It's a trade off I'm willing to make.
And besides, I'm not fond of manicured hands on men. Clean, trimmed and free from huge callouses is good enough. Soft, with perfect nails, etc is too much. (Speaking of which, Pres. Bush has incredibly soft hands....hrmmmm.
)
Crying: Eyes welled up at appropriate moments: very attractive. Sobbing uncontrollably: freaks me out. I often wonder if I'm just a cold hearted bitch because I don't cry often...maybe twice a year and when I do it's always in private. I have one friend that always seems to be on the verge of tears. It can be so exhausting b/c I feel like I have to talk her down from the ledge.
Eyeliner and long hair on men? Like it on the right ones. I do distinguish "surfer" long hair from "heavy metal" long hair, though. I don't like rocker hair, but surfer hair is good.

Good morning, sorry I'm late. Looks like I missed a few days and a few dozen posts.
Tristan, sorry about your Monday. My boss is in Boston and I'm planning on spending the afternoon in a microbrewery watching the U.S. vs. Czech Republic. It's a nice way to ease into the workweek.
Won't try to catch up on all the questions but I do try to keep my nails short and rounded.
Questions:
How many guys out there have had a professional manicure and/or pedicure? One time thing or do you have a set appointment?
How many ladies have taken their significant others in for this service?
How would you react to a guy telling you he gets his nails done on a regular basis?
I had my first manicure a month ago and it was a unique experience. For reasons I won't go into, I was at a salon with my buddies and their wives when the peer pressure took hold. I could not be talked into a pedicure. Later I regretted my stubborness. After seeing a pal of mine sporting the smile of the enlightened buddha while this young girl carved away on his feet I was envious as hell. Still don't see myself plopping down the cash for it on a regular basis but I could be persuaded to do it every now and again.

Shepard2be, thanks for the uplift...and I envy you!
Never had a professional manicure or pedicure. The pedicure alone would require an angle-grinder and much persistence. I have rough feet, and am happy with them the way they are. As for my hands, I work with them everyday, and there are some callouses that I need...I don't really have rough hands, just well-protected.

No worries Tristan, Friday will be here before you know it. I have to take advantage of these Magic Mondays whenever I can. They don't come around too often. I'll lift a pint for you.
At the time I was in agreement with your opinion on the pedicure. Noting that the salon had few power tools at hand and not a 220v outlet in sight I held back.
Although my buddy had something akin to hobbit feet and they still managed to find a ginzu blade that took care of everything. They can handle anything short of hooves evidently. I will have to try it out next time.

Wow...maybe I will have to try out a pedicure, then. Sounds interestin'.
JSUSAGI (my wife) asked a question that I sorta overlooked..."What do guys see in females". I am sure this has been answered before, but I'll go ahead and start...I don't think she has the two days it would require to dig through all the other threads.
The first thing I try to look at are the eyes. They tell alot about the person inside. After that, personality...and it is important that one is present...does not have to match mine. Sense of humour, positive outlook on life, open mind, and joy of life are all things I look for.
As far as the physical, I think the general consensus so far is that most of the males here do not like stick figures...or society's version of a beautiful woman. We can all appreciate them, but a real, genuine, human woman is preferred. To answer the wife directly, you do not have too much around the middle, your butt is absolutely wonderful, I love your boobs just the way they are, and your face is beautiful, unmarred by the slightest blemish. You are what I have been looking for as a partner, because you have all of the above-mentioned qualities and more. (I know, fellow posters, enter sappy music here
)
Alright, that was my two cents
.

I tend to abandon things like 'surfer' and 'rocker' and just stick to defining by 'clean' or 'skanky'
Skanky hair, no. I can't even touch anyone with unwashed hair. (working in a museum that seems to attract hoards of unwashed miscreants has made me a little oversensitive to dirty things) (I feel justified though, since I started leaving handwipes every where and got some anti-bac soap in the washrooms the colds that were plaguing me have eased of)
Sorry, no I hate long hair when they just don't look after it, when it was badly cut 7 years ago and hardly washed and rarely even brushed, its horrible.
Generally im not a fan of long hair though. Sometimes I don't mind it, I know a few guys with great hair and they suit it long, but basically, the only reason i like long hair is because I think guys look so much improved when they cut it shorter.
Not short short. I hate buzz cuts, but any where between say, Alan Tudyk and Sawyer from Lost gets my vote. (basically, enough to run your fingers through, but still gromed or styled)
Which brings me onto nails I suppose.
I don't know, I've never had a manicure pedicure, facial blah blah blah, (I 've never been baught flowers or sent and valentines card either (boo hoo, woe is me.)with having a nail biting problem, (I stopped several times before and started chewing the skin on my lips and the inside of my cheek, the nails are the least unsightly (and bloody!) of the three) and a budget that is often operating in the negatives, its just not something I know about.
But just on the idea of it, i'm not adverse. If a guy wants to do it, then yeah, fine, nicer hands and feet.
The only thing I don't like about things like this is when they have more bathroom products and take longer to do their hair or whatever, than me my sister and my mother combined. I also am not interested in talking about things like that (oh, you should go see so and so at such and such, she did marvellous things with my hang nails and did you know blah blah blah) that sort of thing is about as much fun as talking about calories.
So, yes, go if you want, but don't let it turn you into an idiot.

Look back to the BDM: Serenity sails through the clouds spinning out of control. breaking apart. Suddenly the free lumber rains down and Serenity is one pilot short. That's what happened to the weekend. Question: If the woman you are activly persuing walks in to the bar where you are shooting pool and does not acknowledge your presence, full well knowing that you are there, is that a bad sign? Even if she is with the rebound guy that she supposedly dumped, is it strange that my feelings have not changed? And, last question. I have never had a manicure or a pedicure. I don't like the whole idea of paying somebody to do what I can do myself for free. Plus, I don't really like the feel of nail files. It gives me the whole fingernails on he chalkboard feeling. Sounds pretty weird huh? I do keep my nails trimmed for the most part. Phoenix- I personally do wear make-up and try to keep it natural, but for me it's entertainmnet and just about the only form of art I can participate it. I cannot draw, paint, etc and it's fun to paint my face..mind I am a pro ( I put myself through college as a professional make-up artist for movies and tv) but my specialty is horror make-up. Even so I still like to use make-up but I think any make-up that screams I am wearing make-up is a bad bad thing.
Seryn- Try fake nails ( not the icky you can tell they are fake acrylic, but the fiberglass look so real no one knows) I am a nail biter and fake nails have totally cured that. Also you ought to try demeter.com if you aren't a scent person. I hate most floral and musk perfumes but demeter has one not perfumes like cucumber, honey, sugar cane, and many more that are nice to wear because you enjoy the smell not as an attractant:)
NV- Well my vote is we women here grab the witch, give her a buzz cut and dump her in the middle of a sporting arena for being mean to you...or we could die her hair a horrible shade and I can use my wiles to make her look like the witch she is..She's obviously not good enough for you

Well, it's not a good thing. I think you handled it correctly, though...as long as you didn't pay too much attention to her (watching her, etc). You don't want to be the lovesick puppy.
IMO, storming out would've made you seem like a petulant child.
Question for you: How upfront are you about your pursuit? As old and cliched as it is: Women (and men) like a challenge (don't they? Maybe that's another question for the group). If she knows she's already got you, there's no reason to try and catch you. Maybe take a step back for a bit. Make sure you are still living your life, not just waiting for her to come to her senses.
MSG: I'm envious. I don't wear much make-up, but only because I am sooo uncomfortable with it. And, I don't like having to worry about getting stuff on my shirt collars. Blech! I currently only wear eyeliner and mascara but would love to feel more comfortable getting dolled up. Doing make-up well takes mad skillz...and I just don't have that going for me.

So where are y'all posting pictures of yourselves? Being new to the board, I'm dying to know what y'all look like. And who doesn't love a good wedding picture.

Well, My heart hasn't changed yet. Some nagging feeling remains. Something telling me not to be so quick to judge. Besides, the weekend went quite weel. I had three offers from mathmakers in town and one offer for very vigorous sex. I feel good. Kinda free. Besides, she'd been telling folks that she and I are really good friends and if that is all this whole thing is, I at least want to re-establish that. NOTE: "That guy". The rebound that she was with. He left a slime trail that smelled to high heaven. I think he knew I was there and I think he intentionally made her go there. Though it may not be fact, that is what it looked like. She was afraid of something. I'm hoping it wasn't me. That bad guy part of me is in there, but He may be under control. I won't fight anyone to show how tough I am. In fact, I might just take a beating if it comes down to it. My problem is allowing others to be hurt. Thats when the bad guy won't hold back. Slimy or not, she seen that I am not willing to compromise that. Good point too. I presented myself as a friend with interest. I can wait. She does have me, but now she will have to work for it.

My darling NVGhostrider (insert your real name which I almost typed) YOU are an amazing soul! I guess I should say something horrible about that person now but I've no ground to stand on. I reamed the love of someone who could actually end up being my soul mate yesterday. Sometimes people are confused and out of control. Just be happy you don't have to deal with her insainity at the moment. She is still the person you know and love but life is nuts sometimes!
It is possible that she's not with you because she doesn't feel good enough for you yet. That's how I feel right now with this particular person. It might take a very long time but I think you might be the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
An I carried such a torch.......For the Dark Lord

Hey, nobody in this thread should ever feel they are not good enough for someone else! I will not listen to that! All of you, all of us, are good people, despite what you may think of yourselves. I love and respect all of you, and think more highly of y'all than I do of people I know IRL. I am honored to know you, and everyone else should be, too. If they aren't, then they are not good enough for you.
I apologize for my outburst. This is just the way I feel about all of you, and I hate to see you hurt/confused. NVGhostrider and Copilot...it may not be a great big help, but I am proud to "know" both of you, and in the short time I have been talking to you, I have grown to care deeply for you. You are good people!

Funny you should say that. Yeah, thats what I think. I've had women tell me in the past that I was too good for them at the time. Later a few of them told me that had I been accessable they might have tried me out. I ain't asking for commiment right now, just the chance to ease my way into her life. I don't want it all right now, just the chance for it later. If she ain't ready, I can wait. And I'm not angry, just hurt and disappointed. Thanks to the lovely COPILOT and her point of view I am now even more secure with my desicions. Rather than brooding in my own self loathing, I did alot of living this weekend. I feel real good. May even try for a date with someone other that Ms. Incredible. My have to run into her at some point. Although, I will say HI and be the same shiny person that she helps me be. Wadda ya think BROWNCOATS? Good idea? I think so too. JUst what to wear?
P.S. And they wonder why I have a mancrush on TRISTAN. Smart, pretty, sensative, makes armor, and loves rum.

Sounds AWESOME! Don't sit home waiting for her. Brooding is only attractive in TV heroes,
and even then it gets old quick. And who knows, you could meet another Ms. Incredible (sounds impossible now, but may not always). There's more than one out there, ya know....

I haven't read the rest of the thread, yet, but I just have to stop here and say that MEN ARE BEAUTIFUL. I like all their parts, but especially THE part... Jeezus, I drool every time I watch that "Jayne in the infirmary taping his gun to himself" scene...

Not to be vulgar, but anyone else would fall into the friends with benefits category. We would have fun, but ultimately she would be someone to hang out with that I would have to take in a manly fashion numerous times. I must be careful. There is alot of energy I have saved for that special someone. Must aviod the manwhoring. Must avoid the manwhoring. Must avoid the manwhoring. Oh hell, just flirting with different girls this weekend was nice. Might just have to go out for whole tease night. That sounds like fun.

Do we need to get you two a room?
No, I've completely forgotten whatever it was I was going to say.
Hm, can icomplain instead?
Some pig has gone onto my myspace pace and purposefully wrecked the message that my neice so painstakingly put together on my fridge thingy. I wouldn't have minded so much if they replaced it with another message, but they just deliberatly desroyed it for no reason. I hate people sometimes. That was my neices message!
*sulks*
ok, trivial compared.
oh, thats it, I was going to say NVG - maybe she's not sure exactly where she stands with you? She's possibly a bit uncertain and sticking to the familiar? or she playing with you. (if she is she's a bitch) you of course have the conundrum of not making a fool of yourself for her, 'cause if she is then you end up in a worse position.
Turning to the bonkbuster for inspiration, why not a grand gesture - get her alone, tell her your interested in her but you wont play games, then leave her (just up and go) and let her make her mind up what she actually wants.
Be a wee bit theatrical and very alpha male about it. It might work, if it doesn't, you've kept your dignity.
And by the way, have Ifound you on myspace and added you?
oh, and can y'all read my page since I changed it around?

He's crude, he's obnoxious and he doesn't have a whole pile going on between the ears. He would drive me absolutely demented. If I were on Serenity I'd avoid him like the plague!
LOL. You've listed half the reasons I like him! I guess it's all comes down to what we personally want, or need. I've done the complicated/tortured/intelligent man thing, and I've figured out that I prefer down to earth and easy. Can't stand drama/self-doubt/over-analyzing/etc. Mal's tortured complexity would drive me bananas. Plus, Mal's not hairy. I likes me some hairy.
And I'm pretty crude - ok, I think I'm worse than Jayne, actually - so I'd want a guy I could be myself with. I don't need a lot of fancy romancin' - let's just get down and dirty, gorrammit!
Yeah, and Jayne's tall and good-looking, but I'd like him pretty much if he looked like Badger (who I also kinda like, come to think of it...)
I don't find Jayne at all obnoxious, either. I think he's darling. But, I realize I'm a little odd...
And I like guns.

Yes, the confused Ms. Incredible seems to know my intentions, but I may have to get out the hammer and chisel to make them more defined. She may not what I want, But I at least want her as a friend. I believe some theatrics may be in order. After I do let things be for a bit some misbehavin' and thuggery may ensue. Just need some runnin' partners so I can say, "Lets go be badguys" Need to find some BROWNCOATS in my town.
RUGBUG: Good suggestion. I'd just been afraid of casual relationships for a while. I hate to have unimportant things in my life clogging up the works such. I am the bastard child of a bastard. I never knew my "sperm donor". And I have been truly in love only once in my life. Thats just the beginning. I am afraid because really I have no fear. Sounds goofy, but then again so am I.

Anyone here ever heard of the Ladder Theory? It goes like this:
Men (straight men) have one ladder. All women are ranked on it, according to which ones they'd most like to sleep with, all the way down to the ones they'd sleep with if they were drunk/desperate/last man on earth. Point is, men will pretty much sleep with anyone, under the right circumstances.
Women, however, have two ladders. There's the ladder which ranks the men they'd sleep with. Then the ladder for their "Friends." If you are on the wrong ladder, it is VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE to "ladder jump."
I feel bad when anyone's hopes for a relationship don't work out, but I also feel bad when I see men holding a torch, or maintaining a hopeful friendship, with a woman who just isn't into them.
A wise older friend of mine once said, "In relationships, if it's not YES, it's NO." And that's it. No maybe, no eventually, no if I just stay her friend, she'll come around... If she's in a bar with some slimeball, she doesn't want you. Nothing against you, at all. I personally don't want Mal, either, but doesn't change the fact that he's a great guy.
I hope I don't sound mean, that's not my intent. I think the folks on this board are awesome.

Oh, and no, I just started speaking up. Stumbled on this thread today. I love it! You ladies and gents are mighty.
This is totally off-topic, but I noticed, Tristan, that you have a Ren Faire background. I do, too. I wonder how often the FIREFLY/REN FAIRE fans converge - such as the Bedlam Bards (who did the FIREFLY FILK CD ON THE DRIFT) who normally perform at Ren Faires. And Joss saying that the vernacular in FIREFLY is a cross between Elizabethan and Old West. Interesting.

Um...guns...parts...no, no metaphor at all. Really!
I have heard of the ladder, but I think it was from a comedian...can't quite place it, though.
I have to disagree just a bit. There are female friends I have that I would not sleep with, nor have I considered sleeping with. They are friends and that is all...which is enough for me. On the flip side, I do have female friends and acquaintances that, were I not a happily married man, I would do my best to take in a manly fashion (just to show y'all that I do have lustful feelings every now and then
). BUT, as I am happily married, I can still consider them friends.
Does that make sense? Any other guys in here like that...or any females that have something like the "ladder" theory?

Honestly, you could be right if I hadn't heard things from the past from other folk. I do believe there is a game being played here, and I am still waiting for the right shot. COPILOT seemed to have it pegged pretty well. But your point of view makes perfect sense. It was just out of character for her to do that. Just gotta play the waiting game. There are just too many factors not to hear it straight from her. Just a little truth. I'm not one to leave fires burning. Chances are they burn themselves out, but only after alot of destruction and mayhem. Besides, I have been fighting this fire for (thinks) Nine months. The strange thing is that I don't feel burnt. Is there something wrong with me? Is there something wrong with loving this fighting feeling? Does Paris Hilton really think she can have a musical career? I need chocolate. Who's with me?

Ladder theory?
Yes, I would say it's fairly accurate for me. There are friends and then there are friends with possibilities. Friends rarely become possibilities but sometimes possibilities become just friends. Sometimes friends are only friends due to circumstance (i.e. married, dating) which means they probably should've been categorized as possibilities all along.
I think it has to do with chemistry. Friends are usually lacking in chemistry. If there is chemistry, there is possibility.
Is that vague and non-specific enough for you?
Rugbug: who needs to find more possiblities...and more emoticons.
