Does Fox have rights to the characters and the whole Firefly universe? Or is it just the Firefly series? I guess what I"m getting at is would we still have Mal, Zoe, Kaylee and all the others in a series with a different name than Firefly?

Not seeing anything about serenity at Sci-Fi wire. Casting a wider net all I'm finding is very old rumors.

Edit: Checked the link you provided. That story is from January. So sadly this doesn't look like the news wwe are all waiting to hear.

Not only is that story from January, it doesn't say anything about it coming to Sci Fi.

But the real point is this: Does anyone REALLY believe that if there were an announced sequel, anyone would have to do web searches to find the news?

It's fairly simple: If there's ever a TV or film followup, you won't have to go seeking out the news. The news will be public and official and unavoidable.

Not so much - (Settle down, redirect your anger to something/someone more deserving, believe me there's plenty out there) we understand the feeling of being so eager for good news that you grab onto the first thing that looks sorta promising and hold on for dear life. You might not even look too close at pesky little details(like a date) in your fervor for hearing what you want to. We've all been there, whether or not it had anything to do with our beloved 'verse. Sometimes you just let yourself be blinded to things in order to get what you "want". Sigh.

We all hope for a Serenity 2, or return of the series.... I'm sure in one format or another that the story will continue. Although if not, atleast the 'verse will never die. Not as long as we're here.

If I'm not mistaken, Sci-fi secured the rights to not only Firefly, but Angel as well. I believe they are only licensing agreememnts, but it's a step in the right direction. Here's a link for it:
