Congratulations in advance.
I wonder if an elkhound would do well aboard a Firefly?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't disagree on any particular point.
but if it were in space, would it, in fact, know it was an elkhouond? Would it forget?
Oh you must post pictures when the baby arrives. We'd all love to see. I think an elkhound could be on Serenity. Jayne needs a pet :)
I'm sure having an elkhound on Serenity will keep the crew very entertained with there playful leaps and bounds like rubber balls. Oh and they can easily teach the dogs to do lots of fun tricks.
I'm not sure if the new puppy would love or hate River.
Love, because she ALWAYS knows when and where to scratch!
Or hate, because she doesn't have any shoes for him to chew on!
MAL "You only gotta scare him."
JAYNE "Pain is scary..."
Well now Ubu very cute but our little puppy will be named TORA; Its scandanavian and she is a viking dog. Anyhow. our first elkie is named ZAC; strong name. He is our Zac man
ADELE; Well i did think it was one of a kind being an old name and all, but when i named her and took her to an expo, there was another dog named Adele, The breeder had a dogwash client named Adele and there was a dog bowl who someone forgot to pick up with You guessed it Adele on it. She is our bubbie girl.
TORA; Scandanavian, vikings, old, original. And she will be out Little bubbie girl. LOL
Oh and they wear a coat the shade of black and grey. LOL.
The next dog I'll be getting is a Saluki.
Afghans have a wonderful attitude,
like a combination of high-fashion
model and dashing athlete. They
know how totally cool they are.
LOL
Don't forget PRIDE.
Very simmilar to a Saluki, but with more hair.
Oh, I think an Afghan or Saluki will suite Inara right down to a T. What do you think?
There just so elegant like her.
Picture Inara in a desert landscape,
standing atop a dune, her swift Afghan
standing beside her. The shuttle is
parked behind her. She waits.
The dog alerts. Here is the caravan,
coming to meet her.
Hey I can picture it, a beautiful black Afghan. with a white patch on his chest. His name? Voodoo or Black Magik.
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Eeeeeek!
This has all the makings of a serious
plot bunny.
Do we let the doggy play a part or is
he mere set decoration?
We have only moments to decide, as a little
breeze ruffles her hair and his left ear
while the caravan moves up to meet them.
(Could he be a canine Companion, brought
along for a little connubial bliss with
an appropriately noble mate, object offspring?)
I vote PLAY A PART.
The dog can become a valuble member of Serenity.
Inara can teach her Afgahn hound to hunt Adelei Niska down so Mal can continue with some unfinished business (Event's of War Stories)
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
...he returns from the Niska mission
with something in his mouth.
He approaches her, and at her feet he
gently lays an ear.
... Inara leans down and pats him on the head...
Inara: Good boy Voodoo.
Voodoo: Woof woof.
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Inara picks up the ear and gives
Voodoo a piece of Reaver jerky.
As the dog gnaws on the treat, his
mistress wraps up the ear and puts
it away the same way Zoe carried the
Captain's ear all those months ago.
"It'll be a fine bargaining chip when
I pay my rent this afternoon and the
Captain brings up the matter of dog
hair in the shuttle. Dear Buddha, it
even smells of Niska's after-shave!"
"I specifically said NO DOGS ALLOWED!" Mal yells.
Inara says."Voodoo ain't just any dog, his an Afgahn Hound. he hunts."
Mal looks at her and says "Hunts what?"
Inara unwrapps the ear and shos him. "He hunted Niska, gave me his ear and now i'm giving it to you in exchange of a deal."
Mal looks at her he says. "And this deal would be?"
Inara says. "Oh, only half the rent."
Mal is in dibeleif. "Half the rent, just because your dog brought me Niska's ear."
"Yeah." Inara says.
"Well, it does seem quite amusing. I'll let you off with half the rent. but if you think sending that hairy babbon back out to retreive the other ear to get half rent it aint happening."
Inara kisses him on the cheek. pretty nexpected. Mal adds. "And kissing me aint gonna get you half rent either."
While Mal now complaines about the hair all over her shuttle, Inara thinks, that ear of Niska's seems lonely and maybe she'll send Voodoo out to retreive its pair. maybe, with the second ear and some sweet talk she'd bargin her rent to nil....
Hey I see a great story arising, Maybe we should write it as a fanfic, we'll call it?...
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Hehe, elk.
I see a couple of problems arising here.
Can Voodoo get another ear, or will the
henchmen know better than to let him get
near their boss this time?
And....if it works....after the second
ear...*then what does the doggy amputate???*
And...Niska owes Mal one ear (and really only
the temporary detachment of it), so would
the other one be overkill? Would Mal approve?
What will Mrs. Niska do? She's a dangerous
lady when her world is disrupted, and lately
there's been little peace.
Let me get this straight. All this excitment over a dumb dog? Grow a backbone.
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all. ShadowFLY
People get excited when there going to get a puppy, especialy when you have been waiting a whole year and a half for a breed that is hard to get and for a breed as the Norwegian Elkhound, you will find that getting a (bitch) is harder then getting a (dog) due to the breed being male domanant. but a I show the breed, it means a great deal, as she will have"internatonal blood line" from aproximate 5 different countries including Norway, (The breeds origin)and we then have our third showing elkhound. so in response to you question (all this excitement over a dumb dog?) Yes. Not to mention there not dumb.
Well, today the puppy should be born along with her litter mates as today is the due date. So now just waiting for the phone call to say that she has ha the pups. they are ready for pick up in October. When I get picture's I'm going to post them. We have already decided to call her TORA.
I checked out the site from your first post...those are some very beautiful animals! Congrats on getting the puppy! Looking forward to the pics.
While not specifically about elkhounds, any time I hear the words "elk" and "dog" in the same sentence, I think of this: http://www.jerrypournelle.com/reports/jerryp/dogsinelk.html
Be sure to read the whole thing -- truly a classic.
Lol, that one was sent around by my family awhile back. We've always been dog people, so this was right up our alley. As to where my father finds this stuff -- your guess is as good as mine!
Having 5 indoor dogs myself, I know the joy of getting a new one. Born a cat-person, I still really love every one of my boys. 4 lab-mixes and a pure bred German Shepherd. So good for you, Elk.
And fooey on the troll. There's plenty of backbone around here. Grow a heart, if you've the courage.
"Well, here I am."
.
I reckon almost every film and programme would benefit from the regular appearance of a dog!
look forward to the pics!
Congratulations on the baby, Elk!! We look
forward to photos.
And CAKaylee, thank you *so much* for the source
of that "dogs in elk" thing. I've had it saved
for years but the person who sent it to me didn't
know the source -- thought it was true story by
a friend of a friend -- and I never wanted to
pass it around until I knew who deserved praise
-- or blame.
