So, I work at a Starbucks inside a SuperTarget. Every morning, the same man comes to the doors of the store about fifteen minutes before we open and proceeds to pound on the door for those fifteen minutes. He then comes in, we give him his coffee and he goes on his merry way.

This morning, I was training a new employee. Unbeknowst to me, our district manager was coming for a visit. And she is ALL about guest relations. I mean, if she hears you badmouthing a "guest", even in the breakroom, there is disciplinary action. So, I'm trying to explain how to open the shop to this new girl, but she is very distracted by this man pounding on the door.

She finally throws up her hands in frustration, and says "I can't take it anymore! I'm going to find someone to let him in." I'm pretty frustrated at this point, so I snap back "Or, you could just keep the door locked and keep the coffee hungry maniac at bay."

At which point, I hear a very distinct "ahem" coming from behind me. The district manager is standing there staring at me, and I'm desperately trying to figure a way out of what I've just said. Then, mercifully, she says...

"I believe the correct term is "power-hungry." And don't worry, I could never yell at a Firefly fan."

She walks away, and the new employee turns to me and says "What's Firefly?"

Enter me.

Totally awesome.

LOL! Classic.

That is awesome that somebody at random knew a Firefly reference when they heard it. Most people just look at me cross-eyed.

That is all manner of cool! Not only did "district manager" show self restraint in admonishing you in front of said trainee, she did it w/ the presence of mind of working in her Browncoat status too!

Minor Firefly moments abound almost daily for most here, I'm sure. Before checking out fff today, I posted on a non-Firefly board and used 'gorram' in my reply.

Thanks for sharing that w/ us.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

That's great! I haven't had any random Firefly moments yet, basically from fear of the blank stares I'll be getting. Maybe next time I feel like saying gorram I'll say it, maybe discover another Browncoat.

Can you count a desire to kick 98% of the people I have spoken to today into an engine as a Firefly moment?

Hehe. I just this afternoon said something like "As soon as I get done, I'll be on my merry."

Noone asked what I meant. But I'm not sure if that means they "got" it or just tend to ignore my wierd statements in general...

Had a weird Firefly moment both today and, sort of, yesterday at work. The office supplies free fruit for employees. It struck me while I was halfway down my elevenses apple this morning that I always cut them up, without even thinking about it.

I could quite happily throw my co-worker out of the airlock into the cold vacuumn of The Black!

But I have 2 major obstacles:
1 - No airlock
2 - No cold vacuum os Space!

Gorram, pass me another clip!

I caught one of the people I was working with on work expreience on a harry potter fan site, so I told her she was doing it all wrong, and spent the next half an hour explaining what browncoats were, and why she should watch Firefly. At the end, she showed genuine interest, and said it sounded really good and she would check it out.

Oh, Smartbutdumbblonde, I just noticed your tagline. Does that mean you are Firefly fan and a ferret fan? I myself have some of the wee heinous beasties, which is why I ask.

And on topic - I use Firefly quotes all the time, but at work I'm usually in an office all by my lonesome. So no one to use them on here. I also threaten to go all Brock Samson on someone from time to time, (a Venture Brothers reference for those not in the know).

Yep, I am a ferret fan ever since I was really small, and I asked my dad a stupid question, and he replied: break-dancing ferrets (cuz he's weird like me), and it has become a long running joke in our house.
I have always wanted one.

So you don't actually have ferrets? Funny your dad should say "break-dancing ferrets," because ferrets will do this little dance thing when they are really happy. It's called the Weasel War Dance among ferret owners, but I've oftened refered to it as break-dancing, because that is sort of what it looks like.

Ferrets are truly wonderful and funny little pets to have, but they are also a lot of work. I encourage anyone to research what's involved before getting one. Wouldn't trade mine for anything though. They have to be the silliest creatures in the whole 'verse.

It's always fun to find another browncoat, especially in the workplace! They're sadly lacking where I am.

Smart though your boss was, I also think you deserve praise for applied Firefly quoting. Those versisms come in so handy sometimes.
