Firefly RPG Project - Team Needed

Looking to assemble a team for an RPG to be made with RPG Maker XP. Game will be taking place in the firefly universe and many talents will be needed, including:

-People familiar with RPG Maker XP or willing to learn it.

-Artists for character sprites and tilesets.

-Midi Music Composers.

-Script Writers

-Voice Talent(May not be needed, but getting a head start just in case.)

-Play Testers (To be used periodically throughout the projext duration)

what kind of rpg are you trying to make? a tabletop or a computer one? just wondering, im just starting with rpgs so i may not be much help but let me know what youre thinking of/working on and maybe i could help a little if theres something i know how to do.

i could do voice recording and play testing but im in england so thats a bummer.

and its a shame too 'coz im really good with my voice, accents, acting, everything, oh well, life goes on.

Computer RPG. It'll be ol-school RPG with 2D animation graphics to ensure compatibility with all systems. I'll try and post a bit more info for you here soon.

It's a computer RPG, very much like old-school Zelda or Final Fantasy. Leraning to play won't be difficult. It's the craft of the project that will be the real struggle.

I don't mind the distance. If you can do computer voice recordings, that is good enough. I'll keep you posted on auditioning process.

All positions are still open. Those who have expressed intrest thus far I have conted with the messaging system on here. But I still am very much in need of people. Also wanted to clarify that the type of scripting I was referring to is Dialouge Scripting. I've got a basic plot down, but I need someone to place good dialouge...I know there are some great fanfic writers out there, so here's your chance to get your writing put into a video game format. ;)

It certainly will be. The project is largely in concept stage, that's why I'm announcing it now...so I can possibly gather the talent and provide them the time. The plot still needs ironing as well as dialouge and level concept. My hope is that I will be alble to locate 1-3 decently talented artists that would be willing to work for the love of teh project and at least one midi composer. If it is looking grim as concept phase is nearing the time for making firt steps, then I may consider raising enough money to hire someone on a higher skill plane I know there are some 2D artists that will do this work for $500-$1000, which can easily be raised, even if I havta go at it alone. Typically guys in art colleges loking to hone thier skills or get early work for portfolios.

The only thing about finding another program,is that 3D is too expensive and hard to locate artists for. And also RPG Maker XP is a really convient tool with a easy, yet fexible system. It also helps ensure that more people can run it with ease. I think we can turn out a really cool Old-school RPG starring characters in the Firefly universe. As it stands this all still in early concept stage and once I've got a solid team behind me, it'll go green. It'll be shiny for sure, and who wouldn't want to play an RPG where you aim to misbehave? ;)

Hmmm, I fancy myself something of a writer (whether or not i am, i for sure need the practice) and if you could send me your plot, or even better a storyboard scene-to-scene, i could try my hand.

To be honest i'm a little worried about commiting to this, I'm usually sorta busy for various reasons. Still... while i usually avoid writing fanfic cause i sorta fear the non-canonical, i wouldnt mind for this here RPG.

Anyhoo, as long as you're not totally depending on me for the whole script, i'd love to give it a shot.

P.S. if you're looking for a bit of my work, i'm afraid i've very little that i want to share, but just let me take a stab at a scene or two and see if you like.

Heh, it'll look like the old Legend of Zelda games. But you're right, anything that would be modern would cost too much money. I can help out with plot/dialog/voices (limited talent here, maybe just one or two characters)/possibly 3d modeling/beta tests, of course

Just a word of advice: You might want to check into the legalities of the project before you pay anyone. You're talking about making a video game without being given the rights by Fox/Universal, which is fine as a fan project, but as soon as you start paying *anyone* you may be on dangerous ground. Just something to consider.

I'll definately take a look into that, thanks for the heads up. Although, long as I'm not selling the game for a profit I don't think they will care to much. I'll mkae sure to cover my tracks though.

I will cover a few of the questions I've gotten multiple times on the project. Feel free to message me with any other concerns.

Q)Will this RPG take place before or after the BDM?
A)This is still debatable, though the current direction of the the plotline would make more sense after the events after "Serenity". Once some of the finer plot points have been settled then we can say for sure where this will take place.

Q)Will you play as Mal and crew or as a unique character independant of the main characters?
A)Both. The main character, temporarily named Kent, is his own person with his own story. Through a series of events he ends up flying with the crew. But this game is about his story and his adventure, not thiers.

Q)What can you currently reveal of the plot?
A)Not very much. As stated before, much of it is still undefined. Once we have firmly decided the beginning, the climax, and the resolution then I will make a prepared description of the game and it's marketed plot direction.

That is the common perception, that as long as you aren't making a profit off it, then it isn't a problem. I think that's more or less true (though there's a gray area where even if you aren't making any money, but you're taking away profits from Fox/Universal because your product is competing with theirs (ie, if Fox/Universal made a Firefly/Serenity game), then they can still come after you). But that gray area aside, the thing to be careful about is how you define "profit". If you pay an artist for their work for the game, then the artist has made money off Fox's/Universal's license without their permission, which I think would put you in the same boat as if you sold the game for profit. I'm not a lawyer, but having to scrap all your hard work because of a Cease & Desist letter from Fox or Universal would be a major downer.

Yeah, that would really suck. I'll talk to my uncle, he's a lawyer and see what his take is. It may be that I have to do it under the table or something...again, art school college kids looking for a fun project might be a resource to tap into. Not sure. I may luck out and find some artists willing to do it for the love of the series...we'll see.

Again, I really like them. I'd really like to see a Simon and river set. And I'd like Simon to have one of his more Core planet doctor-esque outfits...blue's and purples. I'm going to do some comaparisons on the ones we've got and see if any changes are needed.

Ghostown, I'm really interested in being part of the voice talent if needed, and I read your post asking us to email you sound files for the characters we wish to audition for. My question is, perhaps you could give us all lines to say in each character voice, so you have a static comparison for each audition? I'm not sure how to go about recording a line any of them have used in the BDM or the series, just because we're naturally going to have a tendancy to use their inflections.
