Lol! I'm not particularly afraid of snakes. We went and saw The Descent this past weekend, and that was truly frightening, so my tolerance has been built up, hehe. I'm sure having a nice beer buzz will make things interesting, too.

I don't think any movie has ever had the hype Snakes on a Plane has. Ever. It's a saga that's been rumbling on the net for so very long. Hard to believe it's finally reaching cinemas. Sounds like a fun movie too. And I was so sure I'd avoid it!

it's just what it says it is a B horror movie with an A actor...you'll like it. It's nice to see someone make a movie just for funny and not to advance their career or to "inform " the public or any higher purpose. It's just a fun thrill ride:)

You know, I think some day Serenity and Snakes on a Plane will be studied together in one unit in university courses. The role the internet played in both is pretty interesting, but the difference between the Browncoats as a single focused group, and the wide but not very deep "fandom" of SoaP serve as an interesting contrast.

Zeek, I sent you a private message. I may try to slip some Browncoat references into my talk, at least in the way I talk. Anything more, and I'd worry about being mobbed. Probably more than a couple of fans in a crowd that tech-oriented.

I don't quite understand the appeal of SoaP (but that has to be THE best acronym ever). It's a movie.... with apparently one character, no concievable arc or character development (cause the only people besides Jackson are all seen dying)...... que? was? what?

If I was one of those people who went and saw movies, i'd see Step Up, i really liked Save the Last Dance and such. And i'm all for new acting blood.

Well I'm about to put on the first "Pirates of the Carbohydrates" DVD before I see the latest one. Hopefully tomorrow. Just serenaded Desktophippie on another thread because of those gorgeous images of Inara's back she posted for me during my lunch hour the other day. And I just read my post in the "Other Religions Thread" and realized I spelled the word believe wrong through my enter dialogue. When are they going to put spell checkers on these message boards.

MSG, I forgot to tell you about Pulse! Without giving too much away, I enjoyed about 2/3 of it, then it went weird. You might enjoy it; not so many jumpy scares as kinda creepy things. You might feel the need to stay away from the computer for awhile afterwards!

Tristan I think I'm having the same problem with Email notification. So you are not alone with this problem. Or is it, you are alone because of this problem? I'm confused.

Seriously I haven't received any notifications and I know people are posting on threads I'm in.

In the past I would get notifications for replies when I never even posted to the thread the reply indicated.

Did that last sentence make any sense?

I did receive a PM from a Fireflyfan today - so it might be intermittent (the worst kind of glitch to repair...) or maybe selective in whom it plays up for... nah - definitely just intermittent! You guys are way too shiney!

hmmmm... pondering here - I wouldn't ask a SO to give up a hobby they were passionate about, though I would hope that if we were having a family they would take that into consideration and work out the risks and priorities. Then again I cannot think of anything so terrible that I'd be waiting by the phone...

I myself only have creative hobbies, the most dangerous might be bush walking (combined with nature photography) so I guess it I wouldn't like anyone asking me to give up my creative outlets, and therefor wouldn't expect anyone to give up theirs... make sense? (What about you Traveler??? Does it make sense to you????)

And Tristan... I loved my purple carnation on the last thread!!! it made my day!! Thank you!

I'm of the belief that you can't change people, that they can only change themselves. I'd need a very, very good excuse to try and talk a SO out of a dangerous hobby. I mean, unless their life were in pretty immediate danger I wouldn't see myself as having the right to make any demands. Maybe if we had kids or something.

Odds- I'm not sure what happened to clubbing. Somehow it has mutated from fun group of friends going out dancing, enjoying life, etc. into this bizzare everyone get as trashed as possible and see who can hook up with random stranger for random sex act thing... I blame t.v.( they cancelled Firefly and promoted the OC thereby killing the morals of our youth)

Snakes on a Plane was meant to be a B horror movie. There is no point, just snakes(on a plane) and lots of scares, fun quick comebacks,and thrills. It's a popcorn movie.

My sweet borther in law is here with us. He drove 7 hours after a long day's work on Friday( arriving at about midnight) and will return on Sunday afternoon, just to spend time with his brother (my husband) on his birthday... How sweet is that:)Plus he brought his dog Kamas to play with our dogs...it's their first doggy sleepover and they are having a ball:)

Oh Jailbait... I remember when clubbing was fun! Dancing the night away with your friends was the name of the game and I liked getting just enough alcohol into me to throw caution to the wind, but not enough to fall over, puke or pass out... now that seems to be the only thing people do with alcohol...

You're so right DTH - it's all because of the Fox executive taking Firefly off... I blame him for a lot of things... the serious decline in clubbing... the skyrocketing price of petrol... the buttons on my remote control sticking... he is one evil dude... (and I am a pacifist )

I've been hearing and reading about Snakes on a Plane for so long now I think I might have to go and see it... it opens here next week I think, but I will have a tough time finding someone to go with me - all my friends are completely uninterested...

I hate working Saturdays - all the freaks who are safely locked in offices (or boxes, whatever) during the week are let loose to roam. And they bring their evil spawn with them...

Dangerous pursuits - husband climbs. He talked me into it, too, so... Oh, and he's scared of snakes, big time, so we won't be seeing that little film.

Though to whoever said Lynda Carter immortalized the role, I disagree. I'm not a big WW fan (never touched a comic of it or seen the show or anything), but I did some research on it awhile back, and the short lived series really cant and shouldnt compare to the half century of WW comics. Lynda Carter may be the only person who's ever played the live action role, but... as far as i could discern, the TV show... the movie joss is writing is not based on that show.

Gina Torres. I don't actually believe she will get the part, or is even in consideration for it, but, I'm thinking that she's the perfect fit. Fits in well, even with the ambiguous skin tone, vis a vis the sister. No doubt she qualifies for athleticism and, well, general hotness and smarts.

I went 'clubbing' the other night - well, i went to see a band in a bar (The Presets, yey!) and i have a different complaint - why do all of these damn bitchy girls think that they have a right to look down on you?!?!?!

The whole place (Korova in L'pool, 'case your interested) was snided with them - they can be attractive or not, but they seem to think that because they may dress trendier or 'know the owner' or whatever they can look down on you (what happened to being friendly?)
I don't know why i care - most of them were so off their t*** on various substances they'd have mush their brains by their late twenties, and they probably can't feel what their faces are doing.

And we were there for the music, and we danced and we were mildly tiddly, and the band was great, it was one of the best club nights i've had for a long while. But I know what you mean about people just spoiling things - like the wazzock who, despite being almost 7 foot tall had a pressing need to always be in front of everyone else, the idiot girls who think they are so utterly marvellous doing little dances and hand signals like they know something you don't know, when really they just look too drunk and very silly, and the token chav who manages to slip past security and get in to try it on with every girl there Like a small dog who chewed his way through the viagra stash. Oh, and the desperate girl who's dressed in next to nothing and dancing provocatively for attention.

I think basically the problem with clubs is that other people go to them.

I suppose I don't see that side of it so much seryn, don't know if it's because male's in clubs don't tend to look down on other male's as see them as competition, and the lasses don't tend to look down on bloke's so much as other girls (maybe i go to less bitchy clubs, but if they'll let me in then i doubt it

) but i do wish i could go out more often, just for the music, but the one band playing in edinburgh I really DO want to see live, always manage to have gig's when I'm working...well, one day, and then i'll be there for the music alone. Plus side to them behaving in that manner is it give's you all manner of reason to giggle, although there might be a school of thought which puts that alongside 'stooping to their level', if no-one else consider's that a pretty horrific turn of phrase.

Had a strangly Firefly-related mini-vacation just now - went down to visit the inlaws, who have cable, and without trying saw:
Everyone's favorite bountyhunter, a very young Jubal Early (Richard Brooks) as a minor character in an amazingly bad slasher flick "Shocker" or something along those lines.
Then I ran into the good doctor while channel surfing - trying to pick the locks of Buffy's sister (Michelle Trachtenberg) on some random Lifetime drama. An endeavor I wholeheartedly aprove of (the dirtybadfun, not Lifetime).
Then I run across Wash (I knew I'd seen that actor before) in that astonishingly bad knights who joust to Queen music movie - which none the less seems quite popular. Then again, so is Charmed, and thats also dreadful.
And then, just when I thought the random FF encounters would end - the 200th ep. of Stargate SG-1. In reference to the SG parody show Extreme Wormhole:

OK! Just managed to get online for a while and there's so little happening... that happens when you live a day ahead of everyone else I guess... you're all out partying or sleeping off the Saturday partying aren't you?

Still - partying makes me commnet - Seryn, you're a Liverpudlian! I didn't realise! I lived in Stoke-on-Trent for some time last century ( that really sounds old) and usually went much fruther afield to party - did get to Liverpool one weekend! Didn't get to the place you mentioned but I think we saw a good band... hmmmm memory plays tricks now... I also made it to Chester, Elizabethan city with hot night spots - that was weird for an Aussie girl! Machester - actually I only ever saw football and nightspots in Manchester! And I think I went to Knutsford once - hence I understand the 'Knutsford City Limits' song by Robbie Williams and have to explain to others that those of us who lived in Tunstall (yeah - Robbie and I were neighbours...) would go out of town to club and I think he's been banned from ever doing that agin in the town of Knutsford!!

Hey GrrArg - I am impressed at your Firefly-related weekend - LOL at the comment about 'it did better on DVD than expected'. I always thought of Alan Tudyk in 28 days when he was upset that his plant had died and was begging the shop assistant to tell him it wasn't his fault! I obviously haven't seen that bad knights film... Queen music you say? Might have to see it then...

Gorgeous Phoenix Rose - despair not - I will debate Wonder Woman with you any time - I really only think of Linder Carter as the immortal WW for me because I was a kid when she was on TV and that was the only WW I ever saw... until there was an animated series with all these superheroes - something like 'League of Heroes'? Anyone? Tell me moe about this Alice movie coz I have a friend who is almost obsessed with Alice in Wonderland... if that's what it's based on? I always imagine it to be a centre of culture and partying - though I have never been there myself (about the only bit of Scotland I didn't manage to get to ) Being from Melbourne we're always hearing about Edinburgh in connection with the commedy festival - as we have one here of international signifigance also. Many of my comedic friends have either visited Edingugh or actually performed there on occassion...

"Alice" is going to be based on a video/computer game called "American Mcgee's Alice" in which Allice Liddel is locked in an insane asylum after her house burns down and her family dies. She returns to Wonderland to find it overrun by the royal soldiers, and she hacks them apart with a machete. It's very dark and twisted.
Heehee, I doubt SMG would see this, or that she would pull out if she did.

That sounds so freaky - the whole Alice Liddel goes insane and all that... My friend would love it - he lives in Holland now, but I think I could get in touch with him! I used to have a picture of Alice Liddel as a young woman next to one of the pictures John took of me in my bedroom... it was my 'Alice wall'.

GRRARG: that film would be "A Knights Tale" The historical inaccuracies make me crazy (I spent the whole of Troy going That didn't happen, thats wrong, he didn't die till later, etc, as Ancient Greece is one of my interests), but its is a good film, none the less, though mainly because it has the unfailingly hot and fantabulous Alan Tudyk in it, albeit with a terrible English accent.

Hey all, just popping in to say hi. Hubby and I just got back from Bats Day in the Fun Park ([link] http://www.batsday.net/). We went as observers (aka "Goth-watchers") rather than as Bats ourselves. I'm a reformed Goth as it is.

Whenever we go to Disneyland, we have a point system for things that we see -- a point for a family all wearing the same shirt, a point for a couple wearing the bride and groom Mickey ears, that sort of thing. There's a whole sub-set of the rules especially for Bats Day, where we count elaborate parasols, and Baby Goths all decked out, etc.

Kinda got me thinking how cool a Browncoats day at Disneyland would be. Dunno if I'd dress up or just go to count the number of fantastic costumes, but it'd be fun either way.

MsG: It's offical...I have a low tolerance for being stuck in a 'workshop' that has extremely little to do with me -- got so bored at one I sat in it with a computer trying to create a SIOP (sheltered instructional observation protocol -- originally made to teach those who are learning English as a second language) lesson plan based on the sample given us (didn't work, because I couldn't remember the way to write the plan). (I think that if you and I were both in the same workshops bored, we'd terrorize the instructors. )

SBDB: Hi. A beta tester is someone who is tests a program to find any weak points in a program (attempts to "break" the program) so that they can be fixed before the program reaches the average person.
I think you might want a beta-reader, someone who reads and double checks spelling, grammer, and continuity/general knowledge errors when writing fanfiction.

PR: Good vibes coming from my place. Question for you: What kind of job are you looking for? (Beyond the "it pays the bills and a little extra") If you want something that works with students/children, you might want to check with a school, they might have some jobs that you can fill (clerical, teaching tutors, aides, etc.) if you ask (it's about that time of the school year when they look for people). Or, you could try your former high schools Career Counseling center, or check the employment boards at the nearest Junior College/College/University (and maybe the campus paper -- used to see job leads there).

But yeah, mostly "pays the bills" is what I'm looking for. I'd love to work in graphics, and I've applied, but considering how many people in this area have degrees in graphic design, I tend to get passed up for those, too. Even though I'm a very good designer despite the lack of formal training. Doom. I'd settle right now for a job that wasn't too tedious and mind-numbing and had benifits; paying dental out of my pocket is getting really damn old.

Best I could find in my "quick and dirty" search was on ebay. You might want to check in the women's section using a combination of long sleeve, asian, anime, and/or shirt in the search.

Google's more for looking up information (and froogle isn't too hot in my opinon). Might want to check out other types of online auction pages.

Have you thought of applying for a different kind of job in a graphics design company instead? Maybe going for a clerical or office role? That way instead of your lack of formal training working against you, your interest in it will work in your favour. And once your foot is in the door you'll have the best opportunity ever to find out how to get the role you want without having to go back to school.

Ah, no, maybe not looking forward to the Alice movie so much, i was sure it was originally a book - movies based on games always seem to turn out a bit pants.

But its bound to be a visual treat.

Yes, clubs in Liverpool are ok,ish, maybe. I think Korova's pretty new, the problem is they're limited by music style, and therefore by clientel. The majority of them are scally dance music venues, where the sole aim is to get as pissed as possible and rub yourself against something. Avoid those like the plague. To be honest you probably would cattch the plague there.

Then there are other low key places, that play more eclectic mixes, which i tend to like, The Jacaranda is cool, and Hannahs, which has a jazz night as well, then indie/alt. stuff, then very niche stuff, like korova, which is electro etc. The problem is the people in them, it goes from one one extreme to the other, you either have to negotiate drunken, retarded, violent morons or snobby, elitist, to-cool-for-school idiots.
Oh and then theres the raft of 'celebrity' hangouts, catering for people who get paid too much and written about too much for what they actually do, and their attendant butt-suckers and groupie hopefuls. Again, plague be here.

Its very hard to find a club that plays the music you like, populated by fun friendly and accepting people, who ain't there to feed their own insecurities by acting like they are better than you, and instead just get on with the tasks of dancing having fun and enjoying themselves.
The closest i ever got was one called the Krazy House which was rock/metal/goth stuff mainly, but on the upper floors they often played stuff like the Foo's, RHCP's and their sort, which are great to dance to. Occasionally they'd even play older stuff like Bowie or Madness.
But that stopped, I tried going back after returning from collage, but it wasn't the same - i felt like i needed to be handing out nappies, the average age was so young (i have no right to complain, seing as i started clubbing at 15, but..) and the whole place was like a very dark dirty badly scripted episode of The OC. Drama! oh my god kids these days can't function with out it! break ups make up drugs cheatings, flirtations! all dressed up in technicolour melodrama. Eldorado was never this bad!

and the dirt! plague it may not be but dysentry and hepatitis were a distinct possibility.

but the problem being, that though i go to manchester to see bands, clubbing there is not a good idea, as safe travelling is an issue just from liverpool, and chester? past eleven, the place may as well cease to exist as far as public transport officials are concerned.

Gorram lack of car!

but the point is, i'm limited to liverpool, and doubt i'll find the perfect club with out opening my own.

Sometimes a weekend is just that 6 String... and yeah - mine was quiet and non-eventful, except for my baby doll turning 5! (I'm her nanny, not her mummy) It's sometimes just a relief to be able to stay in bed and read a good book or stay in your PJs like Phoenix Rose and I did () ... sorry to hear yours wasn't so good though... I have only ever warned someone off one of my exes once, and that was because he had a foul temper and hit me. He only did that once mind you, since I immediatly hit him back and then broke up with him.

The girl in question said I must have provoked him. I could have argued further I suppose but I figured she wouldn't listen. They weren't together very long, though I never asked why. Once he's an ex he's in the past, unless you stay friends which I have manged to do with two of my exes.

I have to tell all you wonderful ladies that you are a very beautiful lot. GND seems to have a problem thinking highly of her looks. Every so often she gets down on herself, and I have no clue why. She's got all the right parts and personality to match. I just don't get it.
So I thought I'd tell y'all that you are all an attractive bunch. Just think folks should be sincerely told that more often.

And Hippie, you made me laugh, I just wanted to mention that, though I too was reasonably sure that NV hadnt actually eaten any animals.

I've noticed this phenomenon in a lot of women. What causes it? There are plenty of beautiful women who get down on themselves about their looks. It's rather annoying to try unsuccessfully to convince them they're crazy.

Hi Dancingneko -- Thanks so much for your response. I will try e-bay, thank you. I was afraid I would make it into a holy-grail of a search only to find out that Target carried them.

With regard to men, it always seems that a great guy comes along when you don't care about being in a relationship, when you're focused on something else.

And whatever that something else is, it takes your mind off anorexic 16 year olds on fashion mags (who are irrelevant) and boosts your self-esteem.

I know you folks know all this already -- just adding my 2 cents.

It's a sad joke in psychology -- if you want to study eating disorders, go to a country right before they start having fashion magazines available. A country with no eating disorders (such as bulimia and anorexia) will start having cases within a few months. I'm not on a crusade here, but I thought this was worth noting. (I like Jane, myself)

Morning...well actually almost afternoon for me and definitely for many of you....

Whitefall, I PM'd you on Friday. You didn't get it? Drat. Not a big deal. I was just bein' sensitive.

NV: I think women get down on their looks because we are judging ourselves against magazine and movie standards. Those women are airbrushed perfection with teams of people and scad of money to help them look that good. Then us everyday girls think we should look like them.

I've recently noticed that many of the celebrities look like very normal women when first starting out. Their skin wasn't perfect, their body wasn't amazing, their hair wasn't as shiny as polished gold (or bronze or whatever is really shiny). They were us, then they got some money and a stylist, a personal trainer, a cook and a regular facial appt.

It matters little that men think we're pretty, we are holding ourselves up to much higher standards, our own version of what we think beautiful should be. Thus, you get insecurities about looks.

To the other ladies: If you are not like this at all, good on ya. Hope to be there one day myself.
