What habits have YOU picked up from Firefly?

Not from necessarily watching too much (since that's impossible), but just little things you do now?
For instance, I don't wear belts, but I loop my thumbs in belt loops and let them hang down as Mal does with his belt on several occasions. If I don't have a belt loop, I put my hands in my back pockets in the same style Mal does at the end of Our Mrs. reynolds when he walks away from Inara.
Also, I now find myself eating fruits very, very, VERY slowly, and for a reason we should all know why.
What about you? What other Browncoat habits are there out there?

Phrases. Every now and then I'll slip into wild west talk, complete with y'alls and I reckon's. Not to mention the Chinese swears.
It would be bad enough if I lived in the US, but I'm Irish. People stare.

Haha, I do that too. I used to do it purposefully sometimes, but now I find myself unconsciously doing it.
I live in the uS, but I get stares 'cause I don't live in the south. ;)
Well, I'm on the border of the south. But that's not the point.

Nothing all that interesting... Just humming the Firefly theme song or the FOB song when I'm not thinking about what I'm doing.
Oh, and bursting forth with a rousing chorus of The Man They Call Jayne every now and again.

I've picked up the habit of always wearing a brown coat no matter where I go, just in case I see any purple-bellied Alliance.

Well, since I am an ABC (American Born Chinese), swearing in Chinese is nothing new, although I do it in both Cantonese and Mandarin. Yeah, childhood was tough. Learnin' two types of Chinese and English all at once. Well anyways, I do have a tendency to not make contact with the roof of my mouth with my tongue while saying "Goddamit". Aka I subconciously say "gorramit" instead.

Quoting's the big thing - I'm fairly certain I'm forced to grab my head and mutter, "This must be what going mad feels like" at least once a week, not to mention various Chinese expletives that are useful for driving when there are sensitive ears about.
And every time me or one of my Browncoat friends/relatives does something absolutely terrifying while driving, it's customary to just look at your passengers, smile, and say, "It's okay...I'm a leaf on the wind!"

I think a little bit like the characters talk, and sometimes it slips out (although I try not to - no one at school understands me when I burst out with, "Shiny!"). And, on occassion, I draw parallels between the real world and Firefly, even though it should probably be the other way around.

And I completely understand that; I do the same thing with the comparisons. I get this look, and my friends kinda go, "Let me guess. Firefly?"

Well, it's more of a habit from BATTLESTAR, but in a roundabout way it involves FIREFLY.
I memorized one of the chinese swears from the show and tried to use it on a regular basis. But it became too much of a hassle to spit a whole mouthful out at a time. There's a reason why they're called four letter words.
So I watched the first season of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and liked how they replaced "fuck" with "frack." So I decided to instead of say fuck, to try to say frack instead so as to cut down on swearing. But I still like to say fuck now and then.

I say 'Shiny' a lot at school that even my non-Browncoat friend says it now.
I also have a tendancy to swear in Chinese and say 'Gorramit' because teachers don't generally approve of swearing. I'm not even allowed to say 'sucks' in my IB English class. I have to say 'Hoovers'.

Also i am gonna start watching it with subtitles on in hopes to pick up on some chinese swears. And i also use southern language like i reckon and ain't and conjure and things like that. And i quote the show nonstop and i think like they talk all the time. But i am sure i will pick up alot more!

Sad to say, but other than dong ma? and some other little words, the subtitles don't cover the swearing (or maybe it's just that I want to be able to pull a long string of Chinese curses out of my mouth).

I'm from Arizona too and I think that those are definitely going to get added to my vocabulary as references for snowbirds. Those are just wonderful. I also like "reaversnacks" but that will have be in my own head most likely cuz most people at school are not browncoats yet.
I've developed the habit of desperately wanting to quote all the time, and occasionally slip in gorramit or shiny, but no one around me cept my sis really knows what im talking about so i have to keep them in my head. Hopefully the rest of my friends will see the light soon though, and then theyll get the references and ill get fewer strange looks.

well let's see here, Firefly has basically taken over my life. i cannot get through a converation, however short, without a quote. I tend to break into chinese swearing (whether real or not) and, well, lets just say that the number of fan shirts I own is now more than the number of my other t-shirts. So I wear one nearly every day. And when it's chilly, the browncoat comes out and stays on for as long as I can bear it. I am always online doing something firelfy related, whether it be researching, writing, reading or looking at pics. I try to recruit anyone and everyone to the show and this site. Yes, my life is Firefly and I'm not mad.

Oh, you don't even want to KNOW how often I burst out into laughter. XD For instance, I forget what exactly we were talking about, but in my British Literature class my teacher mentioned Robin Hood, and said, "You know, that entire rob-from-the-rish, give-to-the-poor scenario?" And it took ALL of my willpower not to burst into the chorus of "The Hero of Canton."
And I mean all my effort - my friend even asked me, "Do you have to go to the bathroom or something?"

Speech cadences, mostly. Seems I've become just a mite more poetical.

SHROUDED: thats just hilarious! I tend to burst out laughing when Im in a waiting room or some place quiet because my mind just kind of wanders to Firefly. Of course I get the strange looks when I do that and then they scoot a few chairs down. But oh well, they'd laugh too if they knew all about it.
Of course, Firefly jargon tends to creep more into my own vocabulary. It drives my husband nuts. I'll be talking normally and then all of a sudden I'll start saying "ruttin", "undo fussin", and "be on your merry". He shakes his head and rolls his eyes. Then he asks if he can have his wife back now.
I also got really interested in guns, which is competely out of character. I've never even fired one but I recently bought a beautiful 12 gauge pump action shotgun. I dunno why... but when I saw her I had to have her. The hubby refuses to let me name her Vera.
Kaylee's voice pops into my head whenever I'm eating an apple, and now I can stomach eating energy bars because I just pretend that they're molded protein or a big supplement bar.
Whenever I pass by the clothing store "Woolies" I have to go in because it has perfect "River" wear.
Wow, I think my obsession maybe getting a little weird. Oh well, its fun!

I'm so into Firefly, my butt glows in the dark.

Haha, when I slip into old-western slang, my mom rolls her eyes and goes, "Stop talking like Firefly."
If I were you, I'd start callin' her Vera behind your hubby's back.
he'd never know, 'less he snuck up on you someday.

Phrases or a way of speaking. I'm not sures of a what else I pick up. But I've gotten into the bad habit of naming my things after the cast (like Jayne does with his weapons).
Now, you've got my interest. Lots of people have names for cars, but what are you naming, and what's their name? I'm mighty curious.
Well, my laptop's Jayne, my car is Hoban "Wash" Washburne, and my PC is Zoe (Like a Motherfuting Tank)
Funny thing about Wash...

*Thinks about Wash-the Car*
Me: "Damn it! Why did I have to name you Wash?!"
Bud: "Don't think about it"
Me: "I can't! Gahh!! WHYYY???!!!!"
*Talk about something else. Silence again*
Me: "....Damn it!"
I was like this for a good solid couple of months.

I can understand how Wash the Car would be very difficult to drive home in from Serenity. Although, it must be reassuring now to know that Wash lives on in your car.

Indeed. Though I worry how I can transfer the essence of Wash whenever I need a new car.

Myself, I've only picked up a couple, being as I'm relatively new to Firefly/Serenity (although I like what I've seen so far).
My main one is saying "I am a leaf on the wind" any time I'm up against some particularly stiff competition in any of the games I play (but mostly in Initial D v3 or UnWheel).

My husband and I are both huge fans so we quote the show frequently to each other. I've started asking my children about terrifying space monkeys whenever I find that a bomb has exploded in their room. Although, in retrospect, that may be why they're having nightmares.
And lastly, I've noticed that lately I am drawn to object that have Asian flair (clothes, decorative items, even dishes). It's not intentional, more subconscious. But I'm pretty sure I picked it up from all the beautful things on Firefly.
