Lots of info over at RPF, The 'Verse, and of course the propstore.uk has pics of two of his movie costumes, complete with gear.

http://www.rpf.invisionzone.com/index.php?

I can tell you the round pouch in the back is a modified US Civil War era percussion cap pouch (available on eBay and from various Civil War reenector supply houses). The slidey cord thing is indeed from a parachute harness.

1.) Maidenhead shirt is color was debated between Olive and Khaki over on Serenitymovie.org . But it looks to be settled on Khaki. Possibly a post-WWII US Army uniform shirt. This isn't exact as there appears to be the remnants of a pocket in close ups of the left sleeve. Also there are security guard uniform shirts that are a close match as well. Just make sure you got one with the epaulets. (If you need the corporal epaulet, message me. I have one left and will mail for $2.)

Closest match I found to the robbery jacket is a motocross jacket, that has been ripped/torn to hell.

2.)I picked up one from a guy leathertech on ebay.

3.)The movie gloves are actually grappling or MMA fighting gloves.
TV show gloves are gardening like you say. Someone on RPF actually just found the right pair in a thread this week but I forget the brand right off hand.

4.)From the movie, pants to me actually look like pairs of Abercrombie and Fitch from 2 years back. The robbery pants relatively cheap on ebay now. The pants when they find Book look to be EMT pants in a gray or a brown (due to the pocket)

5.) They don't appear to be different to me. I just picked up a very close pair of gaiters that are 8" in black from REI.com. They will still need the 3 rows of webbling and fastex buckles added.

6.) For the TV show Jayne uses an Blackhawk Industries Omega series holster. Not sure which fits a Lemat. I have access to a few types and will test them out when my pistol from SJ gets here. Not sure of pouch on his back. Coffin handled bowie

Movie a couple of belt keepers, I assume a another Blackhawk holster (as Wash uses one as well). Still looking for close matches for the pouches. The front pouch is a rifle cartridge wallet, but I am unable to locate a match yet.

7.)
Yep its a riser buckle from a parachute. I have a friend doing leather work work me and he says the strapping he believes is a guitar strap (looking into this).
Ribbon is a UK WWII Defence medal with an Ethiopian cross.

8.)Lemat as you know. Pistol from the movie is a 1911. Chest gun (Phoebe) is an mp5k, also an mp5sd5 , and the movie version of Vera is an Aku-94 with a WWI water jacketed barrel.

So far as his pouches. Most all of 'em look scratch-made to me, but they're simple patterns.

This one's the easiest. You could make it in about an hour with just the leather, a stitching awl, and heavy guage needles and thread. Just sew two panels together with a third flap inside, sewn along the bottom edge. Turn inside out, cut the fringe, sew on the button, and there you go! Just add on a belt loop and various foo-farah and it's done.

These look to be a mix --

The far left pouch should be made similar to the above, with the addition of side panels and no fringe along the bottom. You'll also prolly want to use a somewhat stiffer leather for this one.

The knife sheath is most likely the one that came with the knife. I don't recognize it offhand. The grip/guard and metal thickness is similar to the Bagwell bowies, but the blade is much thicker.
(It's possible if the knife is a rubber casting, it's thicker than the original, and that's why it's not flush in the sheath. Or alternately, they left it out a little to show off. The grip looks like Water Buffalo horn, if that helps you track down a copy.)

The next pouch is, as already noted, a percussion cap pouch from the US Civil War era. Do a search on eBay for "civil war cap pouch" and you'll turn up a few. For Jayne's, they added a snap to the front to replace the stud on the bottom, and may have altered the belt loops to make it sit higher on the belt.

The magazine pouch.. looking at those flaps, I'm kinda thinking it might be scratch made. It just doesn't look "polished" enough to be factory made to me.

Hope this helps.

(pictures are from propstore.co.uk )

The left pouch in the pic above is the cartridge wallet. If you look at the tassles they are just stuck up under the cover. There is one or two shots where yuo can see what look like brass in it.

So far I can only find in brown or with 2 snaps..

Where is this costume group of which you speek centered?

I'm quite interested as I've been working on costumes, and have been dying to find a group.

For my group, we're semi-centered in the realm of Orange County, California. One of our great ideas is to make the trek up to Pomona to do a photoshoot at Diamond Ranch High School, aka Miranda.

That is quite cunning. The Miranda shoot sounds like it'd be fun.

I'm from the LA area by the way. I've got a realy acurate Kaylee costume in the works, as well as River (if I could find the boots I'd be set). Plus I have a friend who's going to prom with me as Mr. Universe with me dressed as his lovebot.

For the TV show....
I got my Lemat the other day from Sloopyjon and it fits in to a Blackhawk Industries omega series holster for a USP pistol. The fit is a little snug so one for a 1911 or SOCOM would be a bit larger and probably better.

I got to looking on ebay and his one belt pouch looks like a M1956 ammo pouch. I just picked one up.

Hi. First time post here. I've been on the RPF for a long time now. I was wondering... some of you talk about recieving/buying Jayne's gun (from a fan I assume? SLOOPYJON?) May I have the skinny on that? I was going to mod out my Denix LeMat, but if there is a readily available alternative, I'd love find it.

Also, I wonder if any one has identified the coat that Jayne wears in the Jayne's Town episode.

Thanks!

Awesome! Thanks! I think I'll go ahead and mod out my Denix. Real metal is gotta' feel great!

BUT CHECK THIS OUT!

OK, so I was trolling around the on-line surplus stores for an unrelated item while watching my Firefly DVD's. I happened to be watching the episode Jayne's Town, when I opened up a "coats/jackets" link on one surplus site and saw a blob of green with a hood in a little thumbnail photo. I clicked on it and much to my surprise I saw this:

*edit*
Sorry coudn't get the image to work. Here's a link:

Argh! I dunno' why it wont work but here's the link. Just take out the spaces.
http :// photobucket.com/albums/y297/boozee/?action=view¤t=JKT1036 .jpg

I think I have identified Jayne's Olive Drab coat from the episode Jayne's Town! It appears to be a German Parka with the removable lining taken out. I did some further searching and have seen it called a "German Army Parka," "A West German Snorkel Parka", and a "German Army (NATO) Cold Weather Parka." I bought one. I will take pix when I get it and post them for closer examination.

Inexpensive, and they seem to have a variety of sizes in stock currently.

This place will be getting some in soon according to an e-mail from them: (look under "coats/jackets"

The best plae I've found to get a good deal on a Denix LeMat is on Ebay.

Here's another great patch site. Look under "S" titles.

No modification done to the holster.

They don't have the one I got anymore but this is the same with an extra strap to secure the pistol (this is the USP holster).

The ones for light attached pistols 1911 and SOCOM should work as well (and fit better) but they will need to be opened on the end.

There is some of the promo pics for the show where Jayne is wearing East German rain pattern camo pants (strichtarn) but I cannot find the pic right now (in the pic he is also wearing the 'Fighting Elves 28' shirt and in some of them the camoflauge neoprene jacket from the pilot). In rewatching the show, I have not yet seen him wear those pants. I picked up a pair of these at militarysupplyhouse.com as they are kind of hard to find in the US now. In my search for a pair though I saw they popped up tons on ebay.de and ebay.uk.
Other pants I am not positive of.

Also on the TV show his belt has the US Army m1956 ammo pouch. http://i9.ebayimg.com/03/i/06/a0/62/b4_1.JPG

At other times he has a second pouch next to it, black nylon and looks like a velcro top. It looks almost like a single paintball tube pouch but I don't think it is correct.

Looks like a very close match (i've got that same shirt as well), but after the Propstore.com auctions the shirt is more of an OD green.

The UK General Service Shirt appears to be a much closer match but not exact (the buttons are different, it's not ripstop, and missing the right sleeve pocket).

Hi gang, remember me? Things didn't go so well lately on this costume, but thanks to a bunch of friends getting back into the goove of things thanks to Pirates of the Carribean and Firefly love, I've got back on track with my Jayne Costume. I'm still waiting on the knife I ordered since it's backordered from bladematrix, but I'm in the market to get all the firefly clothing for a next year convention or some random sci-fi convention. Amazing how much difference like minded people can do to a persons morale when they're feeling low.

I got a very close match on Jayne's pants from the movie but.... they are shorts. Hot Topic on the website has a pair of grey distressed shorts that have the same pockets, zips, and wierd cargo pocket that Jayne wears when they find Book dying.

No manufacturer info or name on the shorts. Just an imprinting of a sparrow on the interior. I contacted HT corporate and they said that they purchased them as a store brand. I suggested they'd make a great pair of pants.

I'm having a hard time finding a parachute release assembly for the price I'm willing to pay right now, so I don't have a ref on the width.

Thanks!

I accidentally deleted my whole post, which went through the whole process of finding the patch. Needless to say, he wears the same coat in "Shindig" right at the beginning and later when they meat Badger. The patch is a German Police patch from the Rheinland-Pfalz area and can be seen here:

Let me know if you find one so I can get one too. Also, what jacket did you find to use? The closest I've found is a M-65 Field Jacket. It seems almost perfect except Jayne's seems to have this fur on the collar that mine lacks.

Hope this helps!

Jason

Hi Jason!

I am trying to help a friend of mine put together his own Jayne outfit.

I showed him the pic of the patch you linked above. He said it's close, but instead of a gold lion, there is a gold star-like design in the center.

Hi. I found that out after I posted. I went here: http://mercsgoodgirl.livejournal.com/53263.html#cutid1

and found someone who figured out the patch and made their own. I found some sites that will make it, but they cost a lot unless I can find a bunch of people to buy some as well. If I can 10 people, it would be $14 a patch or $94 for one patch.

No help, but you aren't the only one looking.

No one has found this being currently sold.
The thrift shops seem like the best bet.

Thanks Mike, it is a sweet jacket and I'll keep googling away. That thread does have quite a good match though. Hmmmm.
Damn I want it!
