Hey .net Flans:

Wanted to let you all know that I've been able to bring "Serenity" back to the Bryn Mawr Film Institute this fall for two screenings to commemorate the one year anniversary of the BDM.

"Serenity" will screen Friday September 29th and Saturday September 30th at midnight in 35mm. Tickets are $5 and you can verify for yourself and get directions at:

http://www.brynmawrfilm.org

Look at the bottom of the page under "midnight movies."

We hosted screenings back in February and they were a blast - I hope we can get even more people this time, especially as there shouldn't be another blizzard!

I should be there both nights and we'll likely have some kind of Flan activity, trivia, etc. Last time we had a huge crowd on the non-blizzard night and a good time was had by all.

Hope to see folks there, for anyone who hasn't seen Serenity in a real movie theater on 35mm, it's a shiny experience...

Oh, and we have 360 seats in the theater - we won't sell out folks, don't worry. So please plan ahead, get off work, etc. and come out and have fun. We don't sell tickets in advance, but it really won't be a problem, I promise. We do have an additional theater w/ another 320 seats if we sell out the first one...

If you have questions I can be reached at:

bhickernell@brynmawrfilm.org

Keep Flyin'.

Hey Ben!

I've already been plugging ya!

So far I will be sneaking out for one night, hopefully both. I'm already telling folks so we'll see if we can't fill all those seats up.

No blizzard this time. :)

See ya there!

Hey, PA Browncoats!

Ben's got some posters on PDF that he's spreading around. Once he gets the link either he or I can post it up here.

We need your help with this. Bryn Mawr isn't an AMC or Regal theater so Ben needs all the help he can get. There's no big huge budget for advertising for him.

If you're a member of any other group, please post there and chat this up.

Let's fill some seats!

Oh, and...uh...bump. :)

I will definitly be there!!!! I was set for the screening the night of the blizzard, but the drive...in the storm.....at night...was a little too much for me. September screening will guarantee no repeat of the snow storm!
I live in the area, so if you can get the poster/flyer up for post, I will do my share to advertise this shiny event.
How about an earlier[8-9PM] screening for the young'uns?

hey peeps:

i should have a .pdf of the flyer later today or by tomorrow...

i'm very computer literate but kind of web illiterate... can i post the file on t his thread? or do i need to host it somewhere else (like a file server) and post a link? if someone already has that kind of thing set up, perhaps i could email them the .pdf and they could link to it?

i'll have it soon and i'll let y'all know...

your help is awesome - kaele's already got it *all over* the net, so good work.

thanks guys.

Say, here's a thought...and I shall leave it at that, just a thought...

Being that there's been a considerable interest in forming a southeast PA Browncoat group, maybe we could get together a little early and discuss it? Maybe even make this our first official meet?? How does that grab you?

I'd love to roll the ball a little further. How 'bout the rest of you?

Ok....I've recently joined the PA Browncoats Yahoo group... There is a ton of folk there. I told them about the screenings and they are all excited... They want to meet and get some food before hand. This would be a good way to get the 2 (if there are 2) groups together. I mean PA Browncoats yahoo is already established. here is a chunk of some of the e-mails I've received on the subject...

I think I'd like to do this too. Gullifty's in Rosemont isn't too far up the road from Bryn Mawr. :)

The following was posted on the Ariel Ambulance Yahoo group by Michael J. Welch. Kinda makes our get-together an ass-picious occassion!

(QUOTE)September 30th, 2006 marks the one-year anniversary of Serenity's red carpet U.S. premiere at Universal Studios. Serenity 'Versary will be what we make it. The spirit of the day will involve these expressions:
gt;
1) "Thank you" to Universal for its faith in Joss and for making the movie Serenity a reality. A few days prior to the 30th, send a letter to Universal Studios in Hollywood. Congratulate them, thank them for making the film, and ask them for a sequel. Show them our numbers.

2) While e-mail is not as powerful as hand written letters, it still helps. On the 30th, please send Universal an e-mail of thanks (like
the letter).

http://www.universalstudios.com/homepage/ html/contact_us/

3) Celebrate Serenity with other fans, and also bring Serenity to the attention of potential new fans. This can be anything from a small get-together in your Living Room to booking a Venue and showing the film for Charity. Just let others know about the Serenifly 'verse.

I heard someone mention Gullifty's... if you guys would like to organize something beforehand for dinner, please go for it - sounds like a good idea. I'll be working so unfortunately will be here at the theater...

Am not sure what to do yet before the movie... I think trivia beforehand in the theater with some prizes definitely right before the movie, but I'd also like to think of something new to do to get warmed up say an hour before the movie... I'm mulling...

So I think, yes, there may be some kind of "activity" before the movie, say around 11pm...

We could always just hang out in the cafe', but I'm going to try to come up with something new...

For folks who'd like some dinner, I think a 9pm reservation in the area would be a great idea - lots of good places for grub.

Never been to Gullifty's but have heard good things...

"The Grog" didn't seem to go over well last time - too fratty...

Well, judging by the SNEN showing in King of Prussia, I'm not the only costumer in the area. P'raps we could have a costume get-together? Maybe re-create a couple of scenes to boot? Also, dinner-before-the-movie would be awesomely shiny. As long as it's not something that'll make my stomach go for hard burn, I'm in.

Haha, totally. I've been spreading the signal on LJ and Myspace all day.

Ben, um...not to sound like a moonbrain, but as these are midnight showings...are we talking midnight on the 28th-to-29th and 29th-to-30th? Or 29th-to-30th and 30th-to-Oct-1st? Reason I'm asking is because I'm planning to attend on both nights.

Ha! You got me confused just reading that!

The showings are Friday and Saturday night... so the nights of the 29th turning into the 30th and the 30th turing into the first... Fri. and Sat. night...

When we program them into the ticketing computer here at work we actually program the shows as 11:59pm Friday and Saturday to avoid the same confusion! So Yes, the film shows 11:59pm Friday Sept. 29th and Sat. Sept. 30th...

Does this compute?

I shall look up those screen things and see if I can print up some fun excerpts. Depending on the scene, I'll print out a few copies for the 'players'. I don't have a printer so I'll have to use mom's (Livlass).

If anyone wants to help out, toss me an e-mail with your favorite scene from each episode. That way I won't have to read each script top to bottom to search for stuff. :)

Current pre-show plans include trivia and scene recreations starting about an hour before the show in the theater's cafe...

I'm thinking Gullifty's or whatever it's called. The Japanese place sounds too expensive and from what they were saying on the PA board, the Wild Onion may be a bit too difficult to find. And Gullifty's has an outdoor area if we wanna be especially rowdy.

I know this doesn't really need to be said, but...please make sure we're wearing some form or Firefly/Serenity garb so we can ID each other. I feel lost sometimes. Prime example for those at MR who heard: "Oh, my god! Mom's car was stolen!" (It's still Nathan's fault.)

I'm gonna go up some time this coming week, too, just to make sure I know where I'm going. I get lost very easily...

Heehee, heeheeheeeee. Yeah, I was just thinking this is shaping up to be a revisit of MR - I remember Bucky and Kiera! Now if only we could get Nathan and/or Jonathan into it. Y'all remember Karen the Big Browncoat Mama? She's coming, too.

JAYNESBUNKWOMAN, WHERE ARE YOU!!!!!!

Well, I'm going to arrive completely Maladjusted and I'm going to try to be there early. Should anyone else show up wearing Serenity T-shirts and the like afterward, shouldn't be hard for later arrivals to recognise the group. ;) Looks enough like we're leaning toward Gullifty's at 9 PM. Everybody else shiny with that?

Oh, while we're at it, let's get something clarified: do we want to go straight to dinner, or meet at the theater first and then go eat?

Here's the way I read it: We're going out to dinner (probably at Gullifty's) at 9:00, though I'd like to see if we're going to meet at the BMFI first. After dinner we mosey on back to the BMFI for some fan activities at 11:00, then the movie at midnight. 'Course, it's possible we're not recalling some of our previous plans, BUT.....

I did reply to your post, Sab. FFF.net ate it. I posted it late, late last night and then the FFF server went down for maintenance, so my post never made it onto the board. But apparently its ghost did because it sent you an e-mail.

Steamer, I'd suggest just meeting at the restaurant rather than trekking to the theater, the restaurant, and back to the theater. Having two kids in car seats, I avoid extra stops like the plague. Gullifty's at 9:00. Earlier if you can make it. :)

**************UPDATE*****************

The PA Browncoats are shifting the time to meet up at Gullifty's.

It is now 8:00.

In the PA Browncoats group, we figured that by the time all of us get seated, get food and eat, it'll be a while. And this way we won't be stuck rushing out to pay our checks and sprinting down (up?) the street to the theater. I'd rather relax and enjoy the night.

If you can't make it by 8, no biggie. :) Just show up when you can. And if you can't make Gullifty's, we'll see you at the theater at 11!

(I posted this at PA Browncoats too)

I just called Gullifty's and made reservations for Saturday night at around 8:30. Since they're busy that time of night for dinner (esp. since it's a Saturday night!), they can't guarantee we'll all be placed together. Here's what I suggest:

1) Call Gullifty's and make a reservation - 610-525-1851. Your party must be at least 6 people for them to make a reservation.
2) Give them your name and tell them you're with the Browncoat group.

The very nice lady I spoke with said they will TRY to place us together, but she cannot guarantee it. Either way, I'm still happy because they'll expect me and I won't have to wait an insane time for a table.

hey all:

it's so good to see so much organizimizing going on!! i won't be there for dinner saturday b/c i'll be working, but i think i can definitely sneak out for half an hour and say hi to everybody.

but i know i have some questions to answer. so here we go:

1) i will be there both friday and saturday night to host fan-like activities starting at 11pm in the theater cafe'. these will include some general hangin'/chattin', some trivia, scene recreations, and if enough folks feel like dressing up, a costume contest. i myself am not a huge dresser-upper, but i have some hawaiian shirts that might see the light of day...

2)the theater will be open on friday about 3:30pm and saturday about 12:30pm to sell tickets. even though it's against our regular policy, i'll say that people can buy tickets for both nights as of opening friday. we're happy to do that for you guys. but we don't do tickets online or over the phone - we're kinda old-fashioned that way - sorry!

i really hope no one's worried about getting tickets. i run the place, so i can guarantee you everyone will get in. we have 360 seats in the theater the movie will be in, and i'll have the DVD as backup to play in the other theater if we go over 360 (we have another 320 in the other theater), but i really don't think we will. i'll be *very* happy to go over 250 on saturday night. please, please exceed my expectations. i'll squeeze folks in, i promise.

on a final note, gullifty's is a great choice and i'm glad you guys are all set up to meet. walking from there is *possible* - it's prob. a ten minute walk. but we also do have plenty of parking at the theater. there's a lot directly behind us owned by us and a much larger lot right next to us owned by a bank but they let our people park there after 5pm, so we have spots enough for everyone if you want to drive on up the road.

this is gonna be fun, guys. i'm getting excited.

oh, i'm gonna start shopping for prizes - any suggestions?

OK, so we've got dinner arrangements for Saturday night. How about Friday? Are we doing dinner that night as well, is it at the same time or later, and are there better chances of getting into the restaurant without a reservation?

I drove up to Bryn Mawr today and found out exactly where I'm going. I ate at Gullifty's and walked up to Mei Mei, an import shop just down and accross the street from BMFI, where I finally got a dice bag for Serenity (Not gold on red, but my 'lucky' dice bag has the chinese character for lucky 8-).

That's quite a hike for a fat man like me, but the walk is doable, and a good idea since I plan on leaving the car there after a few beers... Two dogfish ales, a personal pizza and a burger (Hey, I wanted to try a couple of things, and I hadn't had any breakfast!) came to about $21. I'm bringing chopsticks and going to try their stirfry dish on Friday night. Is that also 8 PM, or is the 'meet and eat together' thing just on Saturday?

(I noted that meals are important in Firefly, we see the crew eating together more often than in any other show I can think of. From the overdose of Chinese martial arts movies I saw for a China LARP in august, this seems to be a major theme in Wuxia, too.)

If I leave about 6:30, or a little earlier, I should have plenty of time to set up the VCR for Dr. Who, and fight my way through waning (hopefully) traffic on 95 North, take 495 around Wilmington and into PA, then up 476 to exit 13 at Villanova and east a couple of miles on Lancaster Avenue to Gullifty's for dinner.

See you there!

a hat contribution would be awesome!

i'm going to make a list of these offers and include them in the prize list... the only thing i should know is if anyone *isn't* bringing their prize offering until saturday, so i don't include it in the friday night lot.

i second malnourished's call - if folks could drop some numbers on us as to who they think they're bringing it would help us to estimate how big to make this party...

oh, and final fyi - the cafe' is officially byob - so you can buy some coffee, but if anyone wants to bring a bottle of wine, that's ok too (we just can't take "contraband" it in the theater).

exciting stuff. it'll be nice to meet y'all and/or see you again. and yes, mal, let's TOTALLY organize a big thank you pic to Universal... if only there wouldn't be a possible lawsuit, it would be *awesome* to get everyone ON TOP of the theater marquee and snap a pic, but i'm not sure if it can structurally hold 100 browncoats!

Checklist for the screening!

* If you've got anything to donate to the prize pool, please contact Bentor78 with what you'd like to donate and try to get it to him this week before Friday.

* Set aside your Browncoat attire, tees and orange hats so that you don't inadvertantly wear it this week and it remains in the laundry basket during the screening. LOL (This one's for me!) If you don't already have some, check out your local Hot Topic store, they've got some shiny new shirts for us Browncoats.

* Call Gullifty's and make sure they have a table reserved for you. Mention you're a Browncoat so they know to try and seat us together. I've made mine for 8:30 so I've got a chance to meet up with everyone and chat for a few minutes before we get shuffled off to individual tables.

* Call your friends and make sure they all have a ride to the theater. Arrange car pools if necessary.

* Try and get ONE more friend who has not yet seen Serenity to come to the movie this weekend.

*Post reminders on the boards that you frequent. People that we told a few weeks ago won't remember, so remind them that it's coming up!

Yeah, for those that won't have reservations, 8:00 would be best. Then we won't overwhelm Gullifty's too much. You know how you go to a restaurant and you wind up waiting wether you reserved a table or not. I figued if I made my table reservation for 8:30, I could chat and relax before we need to separate off into our individual tables. :)

That and I am usually late to things, so this is kind of like a time buffer in case I don't arrive at 8. LOL

Sorry for repeating myself on the thread - if anyone gets fed up of the spam, let me know. But, well, if I can't find a ride I can't go, and if I can't go I can't see our beloved Serenity on the Big Damn Screen, and I can't try to win a cunning hat of my very own. You'd do the same, you know you would!

So here's how it is: My ride dropped out at the last minute. My companion (heh) and I can get TO the theater by train, but the ruttin' trains don't run at 2am to get home for some strange reason. And I'd need to steal a Lassiter to afford cab fare from Bryn Mawr to NE Philly (near the Street Road / Roosevelt Boulevard exit of the Turnpike).

I've been looking forward to this for a good six months, since the Serenity Saturdays screenings in Telford when I first found out I'd missed the previous showing. I'll be pretty crushed if now the time actually has come, I miss this one too.

Please, if anyone knows anyone going even vaguely in that direction with a couple spare seats in their car, please please take pity on a Browncoat in distress.

Thanks,
Stuart.

hey stuart:

two ideas:

1) maybe you could rent a car? it wouldn't be that much, right, a cheap one for one day? like $30? (although maybe you don't have a license - merde!)

2) if you come out via train, i will make an announcement to the entire crowd asking if someone can give you a ride - odds are good that someone could.

3) failing that, i live in center city. i could give you a ride to center city and maybe you could catch a cab to the NE from there?

NOTE TO ALL: Anyone able to post on Whedonesque yet? I'd love a reminder to go out...

Keep flyin' - we should get the print here at the theater to check out soon!

Ben, thanks for the ideas and the offer of a ride to downtown if all else fails. Renting a car doesn't work because neither of us has a valid license right now. But the other two options sound great: with a few hundred browncoats, *somebody* has to be from the NE ;) And having a fallback if not is very reassuring.

Ironically I already am in the situation of possibly needing to get a cab from downtown on Friday night for something else, depending on the timing of some other things. So I know it's fairly expensive but I do have to have the money set aside for Friday night. If it turns out to be unneeded then, I'll definitely take you up on that offer on Saturday. And if not I still might - hey, it's Serenity, it's worth it!

Thanks again,
Stuart.

Shiny!! Can't wait to see ya there! (The library ladies are coming on Saturday, FYI...)

Ooh, that reminds me - Ben, here's a partial headcount. I know of at least three other people besides myself coming on Friday night, and on Saturday night, five or six. Hope this helps.

Hey Folks:

The film arrives tomorrow night to be built and pre-screened - last time we got a perfect print. Here's hoping we get another beauty.

Tickets went on sale for members today!! Wohooo!

None sold yet, but I sure hope they will soon.

It's not going to sell out, guys, I'm telling you, so don't worry, but since I'm on tomorrow through Saturday I will say this: If anyone wants to buy tix in advance at the theater, feel free to come in and I will sell them to you (even though we usually only sell in advance for members).

If the Box Office person gives ya trouble, tell 'em Ben said you could buy 'em. The Box Office is open tomorrow, Thursday, from 3:45 to 9:30, Friday from 3:45 to midnight, and Saturday from 1pm to midnight.

Cool stuff. One final time - if anyone could post on Whedonesque it'd be a huge help.

Thanks!

-Ben
