I second that. Anyone willing to wait 40 minutes to read a thread is definitely devoted (or just obsessed, but those two sometimes have only a fine line of distinction).

Hello Savewash:
Sorry I missed us going past the 1000 mark.
Foster is northwest of Omaha. You pass Fremont and Norfolk. Norfolk is where my mother grew up. A much bigger town.
Did I ever tell about the time I was in Wyoming and I saw this town on the road map where I thought I would get gas. When I got there the only thing still standing was the gas station and it had been closed for years. But there it was, on the map. Nobody bothered to tell the rest of the state they were closed.
So there plenty of smaller towns than Foster, but it is special to me because my family has three generations who lived there. I get kind of sentimental about it. Yinyang would say silly.
Loved using the outhouse when ever we visited my grandparents. What a hoot. Cornhuskers rule. Go Nebraska.
And you can't hijack a thread that begins by asking who will be last. You are part of what got this thread this far. So many wonderful people.
Love you all. Happy to see the 1000 mark. That is shiny.

No need to apologize doll, discussion is what these forums are all about.
Bill Hicks was a comedian who was popular in the States in the late 80s and early 90s (he died in 1994). He was very policital, and against stupidity in general. I could go on and on about some of his routines, but I won't.
Marijuana is better for you than alcohol or cigarettes, yet it is illegal. Zero people every year die from smoking it, and it serves to calm the mood as well as ease pain and other medical benefits. For comparison, cigarettes kill approximately 330,000 and alcohol approximately 80,000 per year in the US alone, and neither has even the remote possibility of being useful for anything.
Just think, if everyone smoked, we would all be a bunch of mellow hungry folks. Who cares if you are in traffic for five minutes longer than you want to be? Who cares about the petty little things that cause huge strife in everyday life? Looking at the big picture is more important, and I personally think that if everyone were required to smoke then life would be simpler. I wouldn't mind my biggest worry being whether to order a large pepperoni or some General Tso chicken.
To address your concerns, smoking of any kind is going to be bad for folks with asthma, but there are other ways of ingesting the chemical without the carcinogens. For example, the boiling point of THC is lower than the flash point for cannabis, so you can vaporize the oils out of the plant without having to burn the leaves/stems/flowers. Also, there are painkillers (such as Maridol) that are made from the chemical that can actually be prescribed. As for the migraines, I do not understand, and would love to hear more from you about it.
Other issues with smoking it: Yes, it does make people somewhat lazy, especially if you are inclined to be that way anyhow. It coats brain cells, which can affect memory and increase reaction time, so doing it while performing dangerous jobs where you need to be alert isn't a good idea.
Sorry for the whinging, but I do feel very strongly on the issue, and now you sort of know why. For more information on Bill Hicks and marijuana I have included some links:

Actually for me, alcohol is the one least likely to kill me. And as I usually don't indulge (I tend to be the DD) it's not likely to, so. Actually the indulge time is during PMS. A glass of something makes me a normal person rather than a bitch from hell who will bit the heads off of whippets. The unfortunate part is that I can't do this before work.
For some strange reason the hospital doesn't want us coming in with alcohol on our breath.

I care about being on the road with someone who is impaired in their judgement and reflexes. My brother was almost killed in an auto accident by someone who was high on pot. The guy was too stoned to realise that the light wasn't in his favor and slammed into my brother's car in an intersection.
Using it, and using it responsibly is a big difference. Please don't think I object to just driving under the influence of drugs. I want much stiffer drunk driving penalties, too. Loss of your driving license should happen the first time. Can't get to work? Too bad. Jail time for any injures or accidents caused. Fatal injuries should be tried as murder, not manslaughter.
Impairment is impairment. No one who is impared be it by drugs or alcohol (or a lack of sleep) should be allowed to operate a motorized vehicle. It's an instant recipie for accidents.

It is most likely part of an allergic reaction, but the migrane portion was always an issue even before the asthma had gotten as bad as it is for me today and the actual pain from it is worse than my PMS migranes. The asthma is most likely the result of my mother being a heavy smoker when she was pregnant with me. (My brother doesn't have asthma, but is prone to bronchitis and pneumonia for the same reason.) I know a few other asthmatics who also get migranes from pot smoke, so this may be linked in some way.
For every object that can gain entry to your body or touch it, there is a percentage of the human population that is going to have either a sensitivity to it or an out-and-out allergic reaction. My point is that saying that 'everyone should be required to have this' is just as bad as saying 'no one should have this ever.' Perhaps a sentiment of 'anyone who wishes to indulge should be free to do so provided they're not infringing on someone else's right not to,' may be more in order? OMG! I'm being politically correct! AAAIIIEEE!!!!

I respect the idea that this should be available to folks for medicinal purposes, and if you want to recreate, fine, just please keep it away from me which is the same thing I request of folks who smoke cigarettes. (Weirdly enough, cigars don't affect me. Dunno why.)

Yea Savewash, cities change. I live just north of downtown Milwaukee and they are building highrise condos everywhere. I can't imagine who they get to pay the outlandish prices they are asking for them. They no more than finish one 30 story building and they start another one. The city is even clearing land for more. But the more people you have and the higher cost of the condos means more taxes for the city. So I can't blame them. It is just so congested already. We have three major collages near downtown and the housing is mostly large apartments or condos.
I know what you mean about this thread. It took me two tries to get in. Then it take a good three minutes for it to open. That is why I'm not posting as many pictures as I used to. It takes to long.
I never lived in Lincoln, but when I was only 4 years old I lived in Omaha.
The last 40 years have been in Milwaukee. I can hardly believe I have lived here this long. But I am a draftsman and Milwaukee has plenty of industry to keep me busy so I stay.

There are good and bad things about that. I just need to concentrate on the good ones. (At least we don't have highrise condos here yet.)
I don't know how anybody has the patience to get into this thread anymore, but I guess I'm one of them! How do we do it? It IS fun, though.

I know. If anyone would have said I would stay here that long I would have laughed at them. Just bringing it up gives away my age. But you get acustomed to the cold winters and the insane collage students staggering down your street trying to find their way home after a night out. I think they stay in groups figuring someone will remember the way. But do they have to sing at 3am in the morning and walk down the middle of the road. Well it keeps your driving skills honed.

You make a very good point here (and I am so very sorry to hear about your brother, I hope the accident was not too serious). Most people I know and/or have experience with driving under the influence are extremely paranoid due to not wanting to get caught/arrested. I do agree that personal responsibilty is a major factor, whether driving under the influence of any substance (legal or not, some prescriptions can mess you up just as bad or worse than drinking and smoking) or even driving tired. Hell, I know folks who don't need to be on the road when they are fully awake and alert. Boggles the mind.
I also like the point about losing the license after the first time and not being able to make it to work (which would go for any drug, not just alcohol).

I have very mixed feelings on this. I worked in a pool hall on campus at Georgia Tech when I was there, and at some point in my time at school they decided that they would ban smoking in said pool hall because it is a public school and therefore a government building and they could do that. Buisness suffered, which was bad for me. Secondly, I am a bartender, and last year in Georgia they banned all smoking in any establishment that you didn't have to be carded to get into (I work for a family restaurant chain). This very much impacted my actual income in a very negative way. People tend to drink more if they can sit and have a smoke with it, which I prefer to do myownself, being a smoker of regular cigarettes as well.
On the other hand, I do see the concern you have for the ban in

Hmmm. Some interesting discussion since I was here last.
I just saw a Bill Hicks thing on comedy central. I agreed with most of what he said. Actually, he sounded a lot like my dad as far as the stupid people and pot vs. alcohol thing goes. My dad had smoked marijuana and sigarettes for many years. He quite both at the same time about 7 years ago when he developed an asthma type illness. Not enough actual air to the lungs so he kept passing out. Actually a very cranky man for a while. Quit pot, sigs, and coffee (didn't taste right without the other flavors) all at the same time. *shudder*
As to the comment about allergies, yeah, my dad is a good example here to. He was a heavy drinker when he was young (and by all reports, a mean, angery sofabitch drunk) despite beeing allergic to it. He liked drinking a lot and may have become an alcoholic but the reactions got to the point of give it up or die. He chose the living thing.

Actually it has to do with patient safety. There have been cases of accidental patient deaths due to incorrect meds given by hospital personel who were impaired by either alcohol or drugs. It's actually grounds for immediate dismissal from the hospital I work for.
I work in billing, however, where the only damage I can do is bill the government for the wrong amount and get the FBI to come call.

Glad to hear they're being cautious. It's the folks who have had enough not to be paranoid who tend to be the problem whatever the substance they've had. These are the folks who get others killed.
My brother was lucky--he had his seat belt on (the cops said he'd have been in very bad shape otherwise if not dead) when he got broadsided.

Yeah, I know. Tiredness is a major problem and another one I have no sympathy for. (Yep, more personal bad news...my sister and her 3 month old were killed by a driver who fell asleep at the wheel.)
And, much as I hate to say it, there are a number of older folks who should not be driving either. I've seen several accidents caused by the elderly driver not seeing well enough to be driving and not hearing the horns from several other vehicles warning them.
What this country really needs is a much better and more relaible public transportation system. The problem is we're so fricking huge, it's a gorram nightmare.

I worked with a habitual alcohol abuser who had a restricted license--he was only suppose to be allowed to drive to and from work--who was still getting picked up on DWI's. He was a nice guy but I really wish the judge had thrown the rutting book at him because nothing else was going to make him change his habits.Quote:

That's been my philosophy for quite some time. I just don't get the whole sticking you nose in someone's private business thing that so many folks seem to indulge in. It seems to be everyone's favorite sport at work (my thought about that is that if they have time to worry over what so-and-so's wearing, they don't have enough work to do and I'd be happy to give them some of mine.) This is even my philosophy in regard to religion: if it's not hurting anyone then it's none of my rutting business

I don't know if I can still get into this thread. My computer does strange things when I try. But here I am hoping this post will take hold.
Tell Phoenix Rose I am going to look for Invader Zim at Best Buys and if they don't carry it I know I can get it at Amason. There are several seasons so that will be a lot of viewing.
This may be my last post. But will continue to try.
Love you all

Some to hum to while making your next post.
AT LAST
At last, my love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song
At last, the skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped in clover
The night I looked at you
I found a dream that I can speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill I've never known
You smilled, and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
For you are mine, at last
Glenn Miller Band
If my memory serves me right this on one the last episodes of "Two Guys and a Girl". One of the guys knocks at a door and a woman in red opens it and drags him inside. They proceed to dance to this tune.
They changed the name of the show when they quit hanging out at the pizza joint.
This song seemed appropriate for this thread.
Penguin good to see your still with us and RiverisMyGoddess too. RMMC still pops in. I still can, but there are days this old computer wants to complain. I just knock it with my trusty computer repair hammer and here I am.

Good to here from you. I wasn't sure if you were still hanging around. I know I have had some difficulties getting down here myself. But than it opens up and here I am. I'm sure there are probably others who will show up that I forgot to mention. It took a lot of people to do this. I have enjoyed all of your posts. It looks like I can still get down here. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I return! Goddess bless cable internet!
Traveler, I hope you found Zim! I am rewatching it, actually, having borrowed it from GorramnDoll.
Tag, seriously, there are lots of other discussions going on, this is not the only one. True, it should have been in Talk Story but hey, it's way more fun this way because it could drop off the GD page at any time!
Seriously, we've got 12 TPBM threads going, don't see you bugging them. Go start a thread about something you want to talk about regarding Firefly and I'm sure we'll all be there. I'll be there with bells! (assuming I see it)

Hi, Traveler. Yes, I still make it down here once in a while, when I don't mind sitting around for a few minutes waiting for it to load. I know I've got it easier than others with cable internet, but some days it seems to take a long time anyway. (Our cable went out last night for over an hour.)
You probably won't hear much from me next month because I'll be trying to write a novel for National Novel Writing Month. (And I think I'm crazy now!!) I'll be lurking here occasionally, though, when I want to take my mind off the novel and see what my friends are up to.
I feel like this thread is almost a second home because it was there just when I needed it (difficult time at work) and it's seen me through a lot. Everybody's had fun, which made it fun for me, too. Keep having fun, everybody! We're all in this together.

Hello PhoenixRose:
I have to admit I hesitated geting Invader Zim at Best Buys because it said Volume instead of Season on the cover. But when I looked it up on Amason they said Volume as well. So I will return to Best Buys and pick up all three volumes.
I just got my car back. Do you believe in Karma?
I have needed a new pen for paying bills and writing the odd letter or greeting card for some time. I kept putting it off or forgetting. I mean I only need a cheap BIC or something. Well I skid my car into a guardrail on a rainy day and do $1500 damage to the right fender. I go to the bodyshop and get an estimate and schedule to bring the car in. Before I leave, I sign some contracts and wavers. Well the person doing the estimate says "Keep the pen." A $1500 pen ain't to bad eh.
If TAG and others think this thread is a waste, than they should lurk some more, because this thread is top shelf. I have enjoyed our ramblings here. I am also glad you are still able to get down here Phoenix. Sometimes I have a difficult time just getting to this Fansite. We are either too popular or my computer is just trying to be pigheaded.
But Penguin is always here. I'm begining to think he will be the last one who can still get in this thread. I guess it pays to be King of the Mythical Land Iowa. Although RMMC just got more memory for her computer, so I'm not about to make any bets on this.

I never heard of brats when I lived in Chicago. Then we move 100 miles north to Milwaukee and everybody is eating them.
Everybody who goes to a sporting event in Wisconsin brings out a grill and cooks up brats and then they boil them in beer and onions. Some people throw such large parties in the parking lot they never make the game. Its called tailgateing. I assume from years gone by that the stationwagon tailgate was where the condiments were kept.
Major edit.
Just heard "Medium" is returning on Wednesday nights. Can you tell I love that show. I thought they killed it. I think someone realised it had a fan base. I wish Fox would realise Firefly has a fan base.

Hello Penguin:
People keep implying we are using up bandwidth with this foolish thread.
If bandwidth is a problem, wouldn't Haken delete all those threads in Troll Country. Are they not wasting bandwidth.
I also do not consider this a foolish thread. I have enjoyed our posts. I know this website is supposed to support Firefly, but there are dozens of threads here that have nothing to do with Firefly. And I enjoyed our posts here. All of you have been so nice. We have teased and joked and shared. Is that foolish? I see threads with people screaming at each other. They point vertual fingers of blame at each other. That is foolish to me. I have made friends here. Is that foolish? I have learned about Australia from Magdalena. I have learned about Invader Zim from PhoenixRose. I learned Savewash has lived in Nebraska, my home state. Is that foolish? If people joined the friendship of this thread instead of calling it foolish maybe they would see what I have. Good people having a good time. What ever becomes of this thread, know I have fond memories of what we did here.
Take care everyone;

No need to get indignant....
I never said "bandwidth." And I didn't say "foolish," but there's no point in arguing semantics.
Merely asked an honest question pointed towards concerns for a site that's already having what seems to me to be more and more frequent problems with loading and the whole not crashing thing.
Didn't think I was being offensive.
Sorry for asking.

Quote:I was only joking like, but really theres some hefty bandwidth used on this thread, it takes some time for it too load, especially with all the pics and the like, but that's bandwidth on the client not server side as the biggest download is the images which aren't resident on fff's servers.

But seriously, you've got over a thousand posts, you are the longest thread in fff.net history. Why not declare someone the winner at the end of the thread and move on to round two? I mean straight loading really long threads is just soo painful...

I'm not sure how one long thread is so different from a whoooooooole lot of shorter ones. I mean, the archives go back for years (which is shiny) and nothing is ever deleted, even if it's totally offensive. Maybe that's the problem with the servers lately.
I can't post here much anyway. I guess if we are murdering the bandwidth, that's for the best.
Oh, it was fun times, though.

Quote:Think about the Forsaken threads, if they were all in the one same thread the whole forsaken history would be downloaded on each thread view. If they're in seperate threads only the latest posts are downloaded. The major concern is client side I think, it just took me ten minutes to get here what with browser stalls and the like and I'm on a 2mbit line.

Hello Hell's Kitten:
I said I would not post here anymore, but felt I owed you an apology. You did not call our thread foolish or imply any wrong doing.
It was a culmination of posts lately that said we were causing problems with the site that prompted my response.

So again I apologize to all. I understand that you all have this site's well being in your thoughts.
