My Statistics class is making everyone do a big project, collect data and analyze it. This will only take a moment, I'd appreciate if you could answer (I need to get 100 answers!)

How many years have you been a Firefly fan?

(One of the sets I bought went to an college-student online-friend. We had an agreement: I'd buy him the DVDs so he could check out the show, and he'd see that the DVDs ended up getting circulated around campus. Last I heard, the disks had collected at least a dozen fans just in his dorm, and the disks had moved on to another dorm.)

Just for fun, how did you first discover Firefly?
Heard the initial buzz on forums talking about Angel and Buffy, and watched the first airing of Train Job.

Watched Serenity-Jaynestown at a friends sleep over this summer. Best thing EVER! next came the comic (actually the novelization came first which I slap myself everyday for) then SERENITY shortly after.

Read an article about Serenity in the UK sci fi magazine SFX (who Joss loves! ) They stated that you really needed to see the series before the movie, so i gave up my only chanceto see it on the big screen () But then went and brought it a couple of days afterwards.

Hmm, this one's a tough one. It's prolly about 20 now, maybe more. I pretty much put in the movie everytime someone come over.

I've been a fan since the start. Saw a preview for it on TV and thought "What is this crazy show?". I watched it and loved it.

I heard about it on and off on my lj friends-list and then saw the trailer advertised online. I watched it and was inspired to read a Firefly quotes website and... loved it! So I first got episodes from an online friend and then later bought the DVD set and the rest is history.

first discovered - I saw a couple of snatches of different episodes when they first aired and was aware of it, but never got round to watching properly until after the movie came out, when I just had to!

- Approximately a dozen converts, though the exact number is impossible to determine (some of my efforts have been in online fora and I don't always get feedback).
- Discovered it through a preview article that described the show, then watched the first broadcast (The Train Job). I don't recall where I saw that article, or even whether it was online or in print.

Back when Firefly was on fox a friend who was a buffy angel fan told me about a new scifi series by the creator of buffy, me not being a buffy fan blew it off, i watched train job but part way through it and turned to watch something else, after that i forgot about it until my friend told me about the dvd, i bought the dvd because i didnt want to hear him break my balls about it anymore, the dvd sat and collected dust for a long time until the same friend told me about the BDM so i finally caved and watched the entire series in a marathon session (except objects in space, i just didnt want it to end). from then on i was hooked and a fan, I didnt really start frequenting this site until the first of this year though....

Many of the members of the Traveller Mailing List talked a great deal about how awesome the show was so I decided to check it out. However not willing to just take their word for it and not wanting to spend $50 sight unseen for the DVDs I attempted to rent it from my neighborhood supermegavideostore. They did not have it. And since they have proven on many occasions to not have movies I really like I thought then that I could take a chance on purchasing the set. Best $50 bucks I didn't have that I ever spent.

I first discovered it back in 2002 when my father watched it and tried to get me involved. At the time, I was engrossed in a Friday night card group and was only able to catch a few minutes here or there. I meant to see Serenity but never was able to arrange a babysitter. I borrowed my dad's copy of Firefly that he got for Christmas and was hooked. He, in turn, purchased the Firefly set for my husband and I.

Depends on what you mean by convert. If you mean an active fan that participates on web forums, converts others, etc. then it's probably only a handful (say five). If you mean those I got to watch the show, I'd say a few dozen.

My husband is a huge Buffy fan. He used to watch Buffy all the time and I groaned a self pity groan when he talked about Buffy. I went into another room when he watched Buffy for half a day. Then he got Firefly and I hoped it wouldn't be like another Buffy. I talked about Firefly ever since he brought the show home.

While seeing "The 40 Year Old Virgin" I saw the preview for "Serenity" I said "That must be that Joss Whedon movie, about that weird western series, that looks pretty cool" I ran home, and downloaded the entire series, hesitantly watching the first episode. As soon as I got about halfway through it I said "This is wonderful, I must have it" Having to go on a TDY, I went to best buy and bought it, so I could have it while I was gone. Ever since I saw that trailer though, I've been hooked.

Just for fun, how did you discover Firefly?:
One of my friends brought the DVDs over to my dorm and they started watching them. I missed the first three episodes, but one of my friends came and dragged me down to the main lounge in time to see Bushwacked. We then proceeded to watch all of the rest of the episodes, which too us till 2:00 in the morning. About three weeks later, the first chance I had to get to a store, I bought my own copy of Firefly. Yes, I was an instant convert

- it's only been two - one for me & one for my brother. I've been too BDPoor the last few years which, had this occured a couple more years ago, I'd have been buying one or two a week & giving them out as party favors.

I read the LA Times guide to the new TV shows coming out that year, which they always put out so you know what's what
and, having already become a fan of, both, Joss, and Nathan Fillion and, liking the premise well enough that, even if it was being produced by complete unknowns, I was still going to give it a chance - I tuned in for the very first broadcast moment and... they had me at the moment the (job) note leaves the belly-dancer's hand and slips into Cappin' Mal's. When that episode was done, it was my absolute #1 top must-see show of that year and I have to tell ya... when Fox cancelled it, I had paroxisms of grief that mirrored Kübler-Ross's 5 stages of death-acceptance... as if the show was a living person who was able to speak to me

I've been a fan since it was first aired on Fox, so I guess Fall of 2002

I have purchased at least a dozen sets (I have two in the house right now) of Firefly DVDs, probably more...

I know I've made at least 5 converts, I think I've made many more (my gifted DVD sets did get passed around pretty widely)

I first discovered Firefly when it was reported that Joss Whedon would have a new show on the air, I made sure I watched every episode.

(Optional) Just for fun, how did you first discover Firefly? like I said before, I was Buffy fan, but when Firefly aired, I already had too many TV shows that I watched (I actually taped them at a friend's house because I only get one channel..NBC...at home. It wasn't right to ask the friend's to tape another show). Then after Caleb's appearance, I didn't WANT to watch Firefly...I didn't like Caleb one bit.

Fast forward to January of this year, me with a seriously broken arm that just wouldn't heal. Just the about the only thing I was allowed to do was sit on the couch all day. I had made my way through Buffy and Angel...AGAIN and decided I needed more Joss and that I would give Firefly a chance.

Boy was I mad at myself for 1) not watching in the first place 2)waiting so long to give it a shot 3) missing Serenity in the theaters...course I didn't even know there was a movie...great ad campaign, that.

A friend wanted to see 'Serenity,' b/c he'd heard good things about it. Neither of us had ever seen the series, but were vaguely aware that one had existed. I went with him to the film and was completely blown away by it.

I immediately bought the Firefly dvd set, books, comics, etc. And after I finished with all of that I bought all of Angel. And after I finished that I bought all of Buffy. Well, you get the idea...

I was looking up info on BSG, Buck Rogers and such, and kept stumbling upon the name Firefly. I got an HMV gift certificate for christmas and bought the set on a whim. Spent every Sat. from then on with my wife and our friends watching 2-3 episodes.
Hooked from the opening theme song. Bought the advanced tickets for the movie.

Actually, when I found out it was by the same guy that did Buffy, I almost put it back on the shelf.

1. Sadly, not very long yet...I'm a late-bloomer! I guess only about 2 years, give or take...

2. I've purchased at least 5 sets that I can think of...more of the BDM

3. I don't know how many converts, exactly...I've loaned my DVD set to at least 7 people, and bought some for others...let's say 10...nice round number.

4. A friend at work gave me a copy of his first FF disc and told me to watch it. I've been hooked ever since. Meeting Adam Baldwin at a con shortly thereafter didn't hurt, either! ;)
