Kelkhil, just so you know, the link you gave was to this very thread. Here is the link for the previous one, if'n anyone wants it.

Anyhow, I think I will have more Jack today. Straight up, a double I think.

The strawberry/mango concoction sounds like it would go great with a bit of dark rum.

As a question to ponder on, what is everyone's favorite beer/malt beverage? Are there any particular microbreweries you are partial/loyal to?

All good choices, IMHO.

I am the same with only drinking Killians on tap, and we used to have a bar right up the street from the restaurant I worked in in Atlanta that had PBR both on tap and tallboys. Since Miller/Bud/Coors Light/Select/GD/etc all taste the same to me, I go for Milewaukee's Best when going for cheap beer, as well as your PBR.

Beer is definitely an aquired taste. After beginning with hard liquor, I started my beer drinking with the malt beverages (hard lemonade, etc), then gradually got into good beers. I can drink the water beers (Miller/Bud/Coors/Natural Light/etc) if there is nothing else, but I prefer not to. The do make some lovely fruity beers, such as Sweetwater's Blue (blueberry) and Abita Purple Haze (raspberry wheat), and I myself have made a peach wheat beer that was pretty good (not trying to convince you, really just whinging).

Whiskey is definitely good for whatever ails you, and after any week in your shoes (dealing with the kids you have to deal with) I know it will help to take the edge off. At least your school didn't burn down --> http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/02/school.fire.ap/index.html

But but but, dark rum is sweet. Accents the mango and strawberry flavors. There are also mango rums, and strawberry vodkas.

We used to make strawberry-banana and mango-raspberry margaritas, so strawberry-mango shouldn't be too much of a stretch at all.

Jonny, I prefer the darker beers myownself, one exception being Blue Moon, a Belgian white wheat beer, though I go all the way down to stouts and porters in my preference.

I posted a great drink comprised of Pomagranate juice, lemon lime soda, and rum. I added a few orange sprigs ti the virgin version for the kids at work and they loved it.

And I think beer is an aquired taste. The Great Basin Brewing Company in Sparks has a great raspberry beer that lacks the bitter flavor but has the bite of beer as opposed to a cooler. Great drink.

RW Intrusion that's oh so relevant. Swear to Goodness: shortly after my last post on today I go to lunch. I went to the little market with my honey (we work together if I've never explained that before; it's how we met) and I'm trying to decide what kind of yogurt to get (thinking strawberry-banana which seems doubly inspired by my postings today...), when I spotted it. Yoplait makes a STRAWBERRY-MANGO flavoured (for our Queen's English friends) yogurt. I'm looking at it right now in wicked anticipation. (gotta finish the rest of my lunch first. Which includes cottage cheese, tropical fruit mix--with mangoes!--and butterscotch pudding. Did I die and go to heaven? (Uh oh. Cottage Cheese and yogurt and I'm lactose intolerant?))

UPDATE: Whew! Apparently the yogurt got me so dithered, I didn't get any cottage cheese. In it's place, however, I see another experimental food: Sea Salt and Cracked Pepper flavored potato chips. Why am I so adventurous today?

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

RIMG-Drinking Belgians isn't really the same as drinking beer. It's more like drinking Malt Wines. And even that's not an ample description.

MsG-Ever had a Belgian? Er, beer? If not, that would be a good place to start. I can't imagine anyone drinking coffee the first time because of the taste. It was the smell, remember? C,mon all you javaholics, you know it's true. Not talkin' about pansy, flavored, frothy beverages: we mean the thick, black sludge that gets us moving in the morning. Yuck! Bitter! *ptui!*

Beer's like that. And the both make you pee about the same; more and quicker than anything else.

A Tully is a Tullamore Dew which is an Irish whiskey (and a very yummy one at that.)

Johnny - we did talk about the whiskies, and their differences, and for me, any type will do. Well, let me clarify. I don't do blended scotch. I don't like some Canadian whiskey (Crown Royal = good, Seagrams = not so good).

PR - I am glad you are set in your convictions about smoke and drink. I think it is a personal choice that we all make, and as long as that choice does not infringe on anyone else's ability to make the choice, it really doesn't matter to me what the results of that choice might be.

Oh yeah, mornin' drinkers. I think I will start with a double of the house single malt scotch, something at least 18 years old please. Neat.

If you really wanted to you could put just a splash of mango rum in it for me...

Oh - beer - when I was a Bohemian Drama/Acting student I used to drink Grolsh Elephant Beer - but it was too expensive for me once I bought a car and had to run it... I can't really stand beer.. reminds me of what I think dirty socks would taste like if they were distilled...

No need to be sorry Magda, to each his/her own opinion, though I have never heard it likened to distilled dirty socks. Yecht.

As for the weekend, I am going to a pajama party. The guy throwing it has his own Tavern on his property (a separate building altogether from his house and from his auto shop and wood shop) and he has two major parties a year, the other being a Pimp N' Ho party that was in April (at which there was a St. Andrew's cross, ). There is also a chili cookoff during the daylight hours, and I already started on mine, making the base of a white chicken chili last night.

I think I'll go with a named scotch this time. GlenFiddich. Double. Neat. Thanks Nico!

I just thought about this, and you CoffeeHeads might find it interesting, as I am fair certain that more'n one of you (Jonny himself admitted to it) share this quality. Every morning when I am warming up my breakfast in the office microwave, I open up the big coffee can and take a deep breath in, smelling the goodness. I cannot stand the taste (the froo-froo drinks from a coffee house are ok, though I usually get the ones that are ultra sweet or contain lots of chocolate) but the smell is one of the best that I can think of, at least right now.

Oh yes RIMG... My Mum always says there are certain aromas that the flavours never quite live up to... coffee is one (though I do so love my strong, white coffee in the morning... mmmm....) and oranges are another... mandarines... I'm sure there are others!

Hey SpaceANGL... ah has anyone seen SpaceANGL? Nico - did you see her leave the quantum fridge???

Good Morning All!

*prepares a pot of the Good Stuff*

I love the smell of Coffee when the can is opened first thin in the morning. Smell of beer, not so much. Taste of beer is definatly an aquired taste. It took me quite a long time to really start to enjoy it. I too started out on the hard stuff. Now I am mostly a beer man.

Thanks, RIMG. Though I do have to say, I might limit those around me a little bit. I try not to infringe, er, too much, but I really can't stand the stuff. I tried to date a smoker once. That did not end well. As for drinkers, I've never really been close with one, except I have a friend who used to drink a bit. That's how I found out the smell makes me sick; having her in my car on the drive home is possibly the closest I've come to passing out, the fumes just got to me. I mean, I'm that way with certain perfumes too, but whew! Made me dizzy. I will try to refrain from the "How can to drink this stuff???" comments in the future, though, because I just get weird looks. She's not a drinker anymore, but she still doesn't understand why I hate it so much. Just really, really sensitive, I suppose. Always have been. I'd likely not be a drinker or anything even if that weren't the case, because of my whole 'body as a temple' attitude, but as it is, I don't feel I have much choice. Well... I do, I could make myself miserable, but that's not my style either
Now that I have rambled and you all know a bit more about me than before, I think I'm gonna have me some raspberries with a hint of chocolate! (more drugs of choice )

PR, I don't consider that limiting others' abilities so much as them limiting yours. I smoke and drink, but will gladly smoke (and drink, for the fumes issue you have) away from people who don't like it because, well, karma is a bitch.

Raspberries and chocolate sound divine right now.

Good morning LA29. Sure you can have some Good Stuff. There is plenty for everybody!

PR - I smoke and drink. I try not to smoke in the presence of my non-smoking friends. If I do not know the person I am around I ask if they mind before I light up. No need to be rude and all. Keep up the not smoking and drinking! It is very hard quit once you start and it is very rare to meet some one who avoids both!

*wanders into the pub and takes a seat at the bar*

The Good Stuff! Ah, blessed, blessed Good Stuff!

*takes an appreciative sip*

That's good for what ails you!

I had sips of my parent's coffee as a child, and liked it, but not enough to want it all the time. But my coffee experience really began near Paris. I lived there for a few years as a youngin', and that stuff was everywhere! And yes, it was the smell that got to me first. I think the first cup of coffee I ordered all by my lonesome was an espresso....and since then, I have been hooked!

Magda, I am not much of a beer-drinker, either...but then I don't consider Guinness a beer; it's a food group!

RedLava....y'all only use a half-pint? Huh....maybe that's why they hit me so hard...

RIMG, ah, whiskey, whiskey, whiskey... *sigh*
I have also recently acquired a taste for spiced and flavored Rums, (sepecially the Mango rum!) thanks to Captain Morgan!

PR...treat alcohol as a religion. Some people worship, some do not, but treat all as equals. I am a drinker and smoker that tries to be aware of when I am around those that do not partake, and I act accordingly. Tell you what, I won't virtually breathe on you when I partake. (without alcohol, of course!)

Hey, all, it's Friday!

*does the happy dance of joy, trying not to spill his coffee*

LOL @ Guinness as a food group.
Although it is very filling (I have heard it described as a glass of bread) it actually has less calories than a similar volume of skim milk.

Pity we didn't get to meet up at D*c this year Tristan, I had a handle of Jack and no one to share it with (well, besides this chick I met named Psycho).

I like the description of alcohol as a religion. Very nicely done there.

A chick named Psycho? That could be interestin'!

Religion may have been a bad comparison, but it kinda fits. As long as everyone tolerates the practices of everyone else, without overt or hidden derision, all things should be well.

But dearie, it's a bit like cheese. The best cheeses smell the worst and the closer the smell is to unwashed feet the better. Beer is supposed to taste like that to let you know how manly it is to partake of it. If it tasted like it was extracted from some pastel-colored flower, the effect would be lost entirely.

So LA29 been meaning to ask about something. You said you were from NY, is it NYC? And if so do they have those fish fry things. Been a while since I was in NY State (since my Grandma died when I was 15), but there was a fast food place that made these fish things on hotdog buns that were the bomb. Weird BBQ Tarter sauce stuff. I hate fish and I used to eat these things by the dozen.

Kelkhil,
Yup, NYC it is. Brooklyn to be exact.Sorry I've never heard of the fish/dog thing.Maybe it was at nathan's ? Sounds like something they'd have. But there are so many independant places I'd not know where to start looking.

You may be the first Brooklynite I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Personally, that is. Movies and TV have made me feel like I have some sort of roots in the Big Apple, Brooklyn included. In a way I do, I guess. My mom and grandparents did the whole Ellis Island thing just a few years before I came along. They got off the boat just like the cliche says.

Anyway, I pretty much knew where your loyalties would fall in the pizza debate, but it's nice to know you acknowledge the competition.

I was borned and reared in the Thumb of Michigan. If you were to draw a crosshairs over the Thumb you would find a tiny burg named Cass City there. When I was four we celebrated the Centennial. Seems there were high hopes for the town in 1864: it was named after the first Governor of the State, Lewis Cass; and they called it a City. A hundred and forty two years later and it's still a village. Population somewhere between 2000 and 2500 depending on the source. I now work at the University of Michigan, home of the Big House which boasts a consistant attendance of more than 100,000 every home game for decades now. That changes a man's perspective.

Things to do? We had the movies which usually were out for several months before coming to town, and the bowling alley. Adults could also go to the taverns for entertainment and fight fuel. Coming to Ann Arbor was like going to a different planet. Colorful characters? They are manufactured in Ann Arbor and exported to the world.

Now I live halfway between Ann Arbor and Detroit. In the country. Not too different from back home really but here I have the option of getting away from it. Back home, well all the towns were pretty much the same only not as good. What I have in the here and now is peace and quiet. Horses across the street, cows down the road, five dogs in my back yard, occasionally a deer runs by or a pheasant flies out of the tall grass next to the road.

That's more than I've told anyone else about me. Thanks for asking.

mmmmm... well I am glad Kelkhil got over his identity problem... It's nice to have a couple in here again isn't it?

Hey - MsG! Tell MisterG that we want to see more of him in here from time to time ... although if that will keep you off line...? Let me re-think that one...

Hey LA29!! I cannot wait for you to take me to Coney Island... after D*C next year!! Thank you for the pizza too - we do have the best pizza in the world in Melbourne - but I am keen to try NYC pizza too!

RIMG - the smell is just the same as the taste - in fact I think the smell is a little better than the taste of beer... sorry...

Tristan - the funny thing about Guiness is that I remember drinking it and liking it when I lived in England 11 years ago - but when I tried it recently ... not so much liking it! Might still have to try an Irish Car Bomb though... and I can see why it's a food group - high in iron and all that too!

Edit: Sorry ShinyKitten! I adore thunderstorms too - there something so... I don't know it's like the world is giving itself up to the heavens when it is approaching and then it breaks and it's just so much bigger and more powerful than you are! *shivers* and the black black clouds - yes - I do like thunderstorms!

But... But they're so tasty

Sorry to hear the weather won't get all fun and violent. It doesn't get that way here much, either.

And yes, four places at once is quite a trick to pull I'm doing good though, thanks! How are things with you (in general)?

*edit* Oh! Goodnight!

Not a problem Magda, and for those desiring body-shots off BDH's, we have access to the cloning machine for a limited duration, so you may create clones of whomever you wish to use.
