Ok, I am kind of new to the fireflyfans.net community, and naturally I have a few questions.

What does BDM stand for? I saw this on a few of the introductions/descriptions of some fanfics and I have no idea what this means.

What is a Beta Reader? I also saw this mentioned in the forum and I have no idea what it is.

I guess that is it for now. If there is anything else that anyone thinks that I should know, please feel free to do so! Thanks for all of your help!

Wow, I can't believe I'm the first to respond to this. Usually, I show up after all the other helpful Browncoats have cleared up everything nicely.

BDM stands for "Big Damn Movie," another name for the movie "Serenity." You might also see a reference to the BDHs, which stand for "Big Damn Heroes." This comes from an exchange between Mal and Zoe in the episode "Safe."

And for the question that everyone is ignoring: a Beta Reader is someone you get to proofread a fanfic (or anything, really) before you post/publish/submit it. Services can range from spelling/grammar checking to plot advice to response analysis ("what I did/didn't like, and why").
