Glad to see Flyvote is officially fairgame, however, HE CALLED US BROWNSHIRTS!!!! Its browncoats! Brownshirts were 1930s Italian Fascists...not something we want to be associated with.

By the by...BSG jumped up two more spots today and looks to do the same tomorrow. That will but them in the top 30. They're moving fast with almost 500 a day.

All averages relative to Dec 1 first except BSG which is Dec 21 (the day they hit top 40). Midmonth, I'll cut the average to be relative to Jan 1. Or maybe I'll add ave to Jan 1 column... who knows?

Hiya Ace...it was a special "vote date"....organized about a month ahead of time
and everybody was supposed to go onto all the
boards they knew about...and ask friends/coworkers to vote on that one day... even one time. That's what the "big" day was about. Afraid if we use it too often people won't take part.

Actually the Dec 1st vote day brought in 1200 if I'm not mistaken. Our record (the record ) was set when somone on whedonesque.com posted about the site. Shortly there after it dropped off the sites main page and our numbers fell to around 1000 and what they are now (just shy of 1000).

If I'm not mistaken.

I'm sure the Brown Shirt comment was an honest Freudian slip ;-)

Flat top already noted that Xfiles is likely to pass QAF tomorrow, so I wont ;-)

I will mention that BSG is likely to slide into postion 30 tomorrow, so it will then be a "top 30" show.

Trapper John, MD got a bit of boost going into the Top 40, they are pulling down close to 300 votes a day; if they continue that trend for a very long time, they are likely candiates for a top 10 seat.

Not much to note about the Nomination poll; other than...
Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood
has gone from 1135 (tie for last)on 12/26 to 222 today. Looks like it could be the work of a single fan. Wonder who (tries to look innocent; fails miserably)? O shucks, I just noticed that there wasn't a single decent kids show in the top 40, and thought... here's a good candidate when I saw it lingering tied for last place (one vote). Anyway, just mentioning it in passing (tries the innocent look again).

Can we cast negative votes for Barnie?

To be honest, I didn't even notice that it was "shirt" not "coat." I'm just saying. When you're running a campaign to get your fellow fans to vote, you can't start insulting them (vomit? eww...) when they don't meet your expectations.

Not sure where to go with this... probably should just lean back in my chair, and smile... but it seems my fingers just won't stop...

The person who made the original brown shirt misstatement was not a FFF member ... not sure if that helps or not. And said person did appologize, for any who care to keep track of such things.

I personally prefered to interpret the vomit icon as a reference to the brown shirts (who are not commonly considered to have been very nice people; read here if you wish...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturmabteilung
) as opposed to being directed to the person who made the comment. In any event, having said way to much for someone on the periphery of this issue....

BUMP.

Not everyone on this list may know that the main reason Trapper John MD is crawling into the Top 40 is that the star, Pernell Roberts, was one of the original Cartwright sons on, you guessed it, Bonanza. He played Adam, the oldest son, and left the show after a few seasons. So that means Bonanza fans are supporting at least 3 shows: Bonanza, Ponderosa and Trapper John MD. I also know (from lurking on one of their lists) that a lot of them are fans of Star Trek (OS and TNG).

sorry, I've been a little off the weather lately and haven't posted. However I voted even more and Lexx got a nice 253 votes today, while Firefly almost beated 1000! I hope it's not an almost tomorrow.
I'm going to the Farscape bored to offer them a deal now. Gunsmoke is just another motive for me to go there and these newbies from down below look pretty scary with their 300+ per day

The Vomitting was directed at Brownshirts, the muscle behind facism in the WWII era.
Referring to Browncoats, (that's us) a very loose affiliation of folk who don't want the feds interfering with them, who can't even get 500 people to each cast two votes in a day (that would make 1,000 votes, a mark we haven't hit in a while); as among the most structured, organized and oppressive political/military machines in history drew a rather indignant excalmation, "Indeed".
I was attempting to rouse the ire of my fellow Browncoats at being referred to as Brownshirts. Rather like the reposting of comments made on certain other boards that thought they had a chance at beating us, and referred to 'Squashing Firefly like a bug'.

Top 10 + BSG; I -think- I've correctly made the adjustment for x-files passing QaF; but feel free to advise if you think the numbers look odd...

title total dayDelta totDec1 aveDec1
Xena: Warrior Princess 180647 492 23,771 553

Lexx 52858 192 8,610 200
BSG 14690 449 8,732 380

We had a nice above average "close" rate yesterday on both #1 and #2.

For the nominations...
The Little House on the Prairie has caught on fire... they've been running over 149+ votes a day for the past three. To be honest, I thought "Combat" was going to pass them and be the next top40; however, if they can keep up the vote rate and Combat does not rally, Little House will be the next top40 entry.

Space 1999 should pop into the top 10 of the nominations list tomorrow.

Mr. Rogers continues his slow climb up the charts.
Sesame Street is, and has been, mired at 21 votes for a while.
The Electric Company hasn't been paid in a while and still only has it's original nomination vote.

... Personally, I never watched the Electric Company much, I would be hard pressed to vote for it. On the other hand, if I saw that Sesame St. was starting to move... well... I just might vote for that.

This is another show that might get more Bonanza support once it gets closer to the Top 40: The star, Michael Landon, played the youngest Cartwright son, Little Joe.

I propose The Avengers, Tru Calling, Supernatural, The 4400, there are more. Are you interested? Propose ones of your own as well. What happened with Drive? I think I didn't see it in the list, perhaps they didn't accept it as it's not aired yet?

Another western? LHotP is a western? Well, ok, I suuppose it is, but I have to admit, I never thought of it as a western because I don't like westerns and I -do- like LHotP ;-) Haven't been voting for it on nomination 'cause I only get one nomination vote, and I'm working something else.

Drive... I believe it isn't a TV show... yet. TV vote is clear they won't accept ballots for anything that isn't a TV show, so until it broadcasts it's just ... a plan?

As far as other shows... heck, if there's something in particular you want to boost, and I like it well enough, I'll vote for it. For instance, I wouldn't likely vote for Avenger or Supernatural; haven't seen 'em. 4400, on the other hand, I've enjoyed considerably (been getting it on DVD as it releases) and would vote for.

Currently, I'd like to see a decent kids show move up into the top40, like Mr. Roger's Neighborhood or Sesame Street; I've been voting for the former but could get behind the latter. On the flip side, I can always set that aside for a bit if there was some other "action" that caught my interest.

Averages relative to Dec 1 except BSG rel to Dec 21.
Our numbers were down a bit; but our close rate is still above general averages relative to 1 & 2.

As there's been some discussion regarding sci fi shows that might be worthy of support, I've run thru my nomination data; these are sci fi shows (at least, I recognize them as sci fi or am presuming they are based on the title; feel free to add or remove based on facts) that in the top 100 of the nomination poll (there 1500+ shows in the full list; I'm not looking at them all ;-) )

Title ; RecentActivity ; PositionInPollList
The Bionic Woman ; 0 ; 87
Highlander: The Raven ; 0 ; 76
Smallville ; 8 ; 73
Quantum Leap ; 12 ; 72
Battlestar Galactica - TOS ; 3 ; 69
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea ; 0 ; 66
The 4400 ; 5 ; 61
Supernatural ; 21 ; 60
Heroes ; 22 ; 38
Twin Peaks ; 0 ; 27
Space: Above and Beyond ; 0 ; 19
Futurama ; 5 ; 14
Space: 1999 ; 70 ; 10
The Avengers ; 22 ; 9

If you see something there you think ought to wiggle its way into the top 40 and aren't already doing something with your nomination vote, have at it!

RecentActivity... this is a -very- rough, quick and dirty average of the shows last 3 days of activity. I may have mentally made a minor mistake; but the zeroes are zeroes; and anything else is probably +/- 2.

I've bee voting for Cowboy Bebop since the new year, kinda as a way to see if I could get one in the top forty all by my lonesome, even if it took awhile. If we Browncoats are all going to endorse another show to bump into the top forty I think it'd be best if we picked one we could all agree on. I'll second Sesame Street.

Not bad, I see you've taken it from "tied with many at 2 votes" (about position 800) and moved it up to position 304.
I've been watching the stats for a while, and it's... pretty much impossible to do that. Too many shows are getting over 24 / day so unless you have a way to get more than that by your lonesome, it isn't going to happen. What you -can- do is get a show into the top 20 or so of the nomination list on your own; but as you point out, that takes a very long time.

Well, we are Browncoats; I'd be happy if we came up with a short list of 2 or 3 ;-)

I will observe that Sesame St still hasn't gotten any additional votes; I'm sticking w/ Mr. Rogers (and I think I might have picked up a little help with my earlier post, if so Thanks to whoever!) until I see something else -happening- I can get behind ;-) But Sesame St would be a cool option.

How about a nomination push for Futurama? It was a space show on Fox that was constantly preempted by sports and was unceremoniously canceled before even airing all of its episodes. Sound familiar?

It gained fan following and hence DVD sales were significant. Again, familiar.

I liked the writing on Futurama. There were some rather clever jokes that it would take someone with an IQ higher than room temperature to understand. Thats room temp in Fahrenheit, 72. Which I think is the IQ aimed at for most of network TV. For that matter it could be an IQ as low as room temperature in Celsius...

Perhaps get Futurama boards interested in the vote. They vote for Firefly and nominate Futurama, and so do we.

Getting interest from Futurama's board to vote for Firefly? Futurama's currently pulling in 5-10 votes for a while (they haven't broken 20 since 12/26; the earliest data I have); that's one or two people... First, you need to get Futurama's board interested in voting for futurama! So... I'd say we vote for Futurama on it's own merit and not worry about any tie back unless Futurama fan base ignites with some "support from other quarters".

Rule of thumb, I (being a stubborn browncoat) don't vote for shows I don't like; and I don't like shows I haven't seen... so... hmmm... -if- there was a consenus to go with Futurama for a nomination run here, I'd be willing to break down and buy season one on DVD for ... $22? (quick google shows this is not an unreasonable price goal) ; then assess after viewing.

I've updated FlyVote for helping cast votes for the best TV show of all time. The new version is 1.2 and includes a count of your votes. FlyVote is available from http://www.usbmicro.com/misc

"Stuff The Ballot Box for Firefly at the TV_Vote page using FlyVote. With FlyVote you vote, then you will be reminded in an hour to vote again. No more missing votes when you lose track of time.

FlyVote opens the TV_Vote page when it starts. After voting (for FireFly, of course) you put FlyVote to sleep for an hour with the click of a button. FlyVote will pop up after another hour to remind you to vote again.

FlyVote provides a random quote from Firefly when it pops up.

FlyVote is available for Windows (98 and up), Mac, OSX, and Linux. If you have any feedback for Flyvote you can contact flyvote -at- USBmicro -dot- com."

Testing is always time consuming. Please let me know when FlyVote is working for you and when you are having troubles.

And - most important - vote for Firefly!

Hey Slowhand: I think it's a combination of folk jumping on the voting board early, plus Bonanza; lots of people grew up watching that show and it's really familiar. BUT Firefly (also a 'western') had only it's tiny, not-a-whole-season to inspire/attract; so yeah, we're voting against an "old guard" type of program; but we're doing very well. I think I started voting in October and Firefly was below Roswell...so as more of us come on board and vote regularly... we're doing VERY well!

The count is reset to 0 when the program first runs. It is reset to 0 each time that it runs. It increments the count each time that it wakes out of sleep.

You can keep it running - I vote, yawn, and grab some sleep. FlyVote pops up sometime after I wink out and patiently waits until morning for me to vote again. But that's because my PC runs 24/7.

I haven't tried putting FlyVote (or a link) in a startup directory (again assuming Windows), but that should work OK. And a shutdown with FlyVote running shouldn't cause trouble.

Thanks for using FlyVote. Can't stop the signal!

Well, I think I have this right... new top10 + BSG format.

title total dayDelta aveJan1 aveDec1
Xena: 181689 530 548 551
Bonanza 150351 604 675 644
Firefly 119388 894 906 871

Roswell 56431 132 144 131
Lexx 53240 215 209 200
BSG 15477 399 418 381

The aveJan1 is the average number of votes per day a show has gotten since Jan 1; likewise for aveDec1 except it is since Dec 1 (except BSG, which it is relative to dec 21 (day BSG hit top40)

I found this is really the data I like to see for the top 10; it gives instantaneous and a moderate time frame average and a fairly long time frame average on votes. Hope you like it.

For nominations;
Mr. Rogers continues to climb (and thanks for those who have sent your nomination ballots that way).

Futurama still getting < 5 votes.

Little House is being rebuilt by scads of volunteers; they are getting 180/190's now.

No other significant action to report.

just to correct something from derangedmilk earlier in the thread, Vote Day (Dec 1st) did see 1350 votes (the highest amount so far) the problem being that it was overshadowed by achieving that exact amount a few days earlier. so we have twice hit 1350
