I just signed the petition. I am actually a new fan. I saw the movie a while ago and just recently got the series set for my birhtday. Whoever cancelled this show is a borderline moron (and the "borderline" is questionable.)

I don't get it. Even if it's only a straight to DVD movie every couple of years, they'd make at least some money.

I would have thought making SOME money would be better than not making it.

But think of the cash that is needed in the first place to make the film. It's not a questions of just sending it straight to DVD, infact that would be worse than if it went to the cinema first because it's a question of profit. Serenity didn't make any profit when it was first released, hence why they are reluctant to make another. The cost of doing the stunt work, the sets and special effects for this kind of film is just too high to do it on the cheap.

Since I didn't "discover" the movie or the tv series until a few months ago, I never had the opportunity to throw dollars at it when it was first released. I'm sure there are many of us in this situation who could be counted on as revenue for a theater run release of a sequel. Since then, I have bought two copies of the Firefly show and a copy of the collector's edition, and I never buy anything! I rent from Netflix.

Didn't make any profit? It was number 2 in the U.S. the first week of its release. It made a profit. Just not as much as Universal would have liked.

New to this forum, Semi-new to Firefly, but learning fast. Signed the petition. Question, though, Fox owns the rights to Firefly, yet Fox gave Joss the Go ahead to sell Firefly and Serenity to other companies, as far as what was said in "Done The Imposible." Or was that a misnomer?

I agree with HK, we, Browncoats around the world, need to unite and get behind one petition, movement or campaign to get Firefly/Serenity back.

Guys took a look at www.savefirefly.org for more info regarding efforts by a group of us who feel the same way.

But, yes, definitely thank you for doing this.

Just giving this thread a bump since the event hosted by www.savefirefly.org takes place tomorrow (err... Monday, March 2)! They ask that people send postcards to Universal on or around March 2, and it sounds like the blue gloves campaign I've read about that took place a while back.

Hope people take the opportunity to participate in this! I didn't find out about the campaign in time to order postcards, but I'm going to print out a few myself anyway. They'll just be a day late. :)

I'm just hopeful that Firefly will be like BSG. It wasn't that well understood on its first run much like Firefly. But after a few years they did a re-imagining and it went fantastic and ended with its head up. Maybe some years from now a network could see the potential that Firefly had and will do a remake or something that will run for some time and will actually end in maybe 4 seasons.
