My average time was 0.1784 seconds.
And bear in mind that I am sleep deprived.
Wait... maybe that makes me more alert. Hell if I know.

Yes, yes it does. Which is why I'm not asleep like I should be.
But it does not make me twitchy. Twitchiness and jumping the gun on that game costs you three seconds.

Morning one and all! Happy Valentines to those that like the holiday... Happy Day to those that don't.
We have a fun tradition at work where a co-worker cuts out words/Phrases from magazines and puts them on hearts. The words describe each person from out department, and there is one heart for each of the 18 of us. We then spend the day trying to figure out which heart represents which person. 'Tis a fun game, sort of teambuilding and makes the day go by quickly. (some words on mine last year? "Broke, whatever makes you happy, Free Spirit, Completely Real, This body can swing again, Ouch"
) 'Course there is usually a picture of a horse on mine, so I'm one of the easiest to figure out.
I just tried the sheep game. Let's just say I suck. I kept jumping the gun and assessing myself a 3 second penalty. Enough times to end the game before all 5 sheep tried to escape. But I did get a few within milliseconds of their departure.
I finally figured it out, but I mouse with my left hand, and click with the middle finger of that hand (mouse is on the left side, but I haven't changed the buttons to be "left-handed", they're still right handed) so I was slow at first. Then not so much. Got Bobbing Bobcat with both hands.

Yet another reason Georgia is a meteorological anomoly:
Yesterday it was close to 70 for a high. Today, when I left for work, it was breezy and 50ish. When I went to lunch, however, it was barely 40 outside, not even considering wind chill. I mention this not because of the temps, which I relaize are warmer than most of the rest of y'all, but because it was actually colder at lunch (11 am) than in the morning (6 am).

So good to be back.
We got a decent ice storm - no work on Valentine's Day. We had junk food, played video games and lounged around in the pajamas for a long time. Why can't every day be like that?
So I shovel this incredibly heavy snow/sleet crap off Dora after the plows come through, (I park not in the driveway, but on a parking pad near the front curb)and some time last night, another plow reburies my truck to the wheel wells and it froze. Dora was stuck this AM, even with 4X4. Had to use a crowbar to chisel away the ice.
(I think I owe Husband big time!

I am also of the opinion that we (the younger/youngish Browncoat Babes) have grown up being taught to embrace our sexuality, to revel in it.
Women of my "era" were just starting to feel this way in the 80's. Women of PR's/ DTH's era have always known this to be true.

I thought it was more that women weren't suppose to enjoy sex. Some of those attitudes are still prevalent today. Women who like sex (too much) are nymphos or sluts. Men who like sex are fulfilling the biological imperative to sow their oats and are "studs."
Oh, and good morning to you all.
I'm hoping I don't break the board again. It really is starting to seem like my posting is the magic bullet.

I am incapable of independent thought on the subject. I am incapable of objective thought on the subject. I am incapable of thoughts on the subject without risk of insult, arrest or ostracization. So:

Yup in the Middle Ages it was seen as normal for a woman to enjoy sex...then King James and a variety of popes came along and "poof" sex was for procreation, women weren't meant to enjoy it, etc..
Also King James is the one who "edited" the bible to include the phrase thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. It wasn't there before...kinda makes you wonder what kind of mom he had, doesn't it??

Mornoin' everyone.
So yesterday was horrible. I'm stressed out, it was V Day and I was alone AGAIN, and I found out that I might not be going to D*Con. I'm so upset that I don't even know why I'm at work.
To avert from the last (and biggest problem right now) I wish to divulge why I hate Valentines Day.
I've gone out of my way since the fifth grade for someone and never have received anything in return. Even during my engagement it seemed like there was always some BS in the way.
I feel real bad because I was a total grinch yesterday and should strap on my ass kissin' boots for those closest to me. I just feel so shitty on the 14th every year that I mostly disappear or work myself to exhaution. One year I actually slept the whole day (aside from eating a sandwich and using the bathroom). There is seriously something wrong with me and it really presents itself on that day. I just felt so ugly yesterday and the effects linger for at least three days.
Here it is. I've told no one of this yet, but I more than likely will this evening.
I've come to terms with the fact that I'll never marry, have kids, or even fall in love again. It might sound asinine for me to say this, but I believe it. Just because I've accepted it doesn't make the fact any easier. There is something missing, some key component that I can't seem to find to quell that feeling. I feel like an addict in long term recovery that can't find the pieces they'd lost long ago.
I don't honestly know what else to say or feel right now. I'm getting back to work.

Big Hugs to NVG!
Valentine's can be a great holiday if you're with the right person. It can also be pretty crappy if you're with the wrong person or you have high expectations. It sounds like you place a lot of value in the day and those around you don't recognize it. Do they know how much it means to you? Even friends can tell you how much they love and appreciate having you in their lives....
As for never getting married, etc. We all go through stages like that. I'm further along in life and am currently feeling the same way. I think I will be alone forever. Most of the time I'm fine with that. Ocassionally I get sad thinking that I am going to be wrinkled, alone and too old to do what makes me happy...which is ride. I'm fine being alone now when my life is so full, but what happens when I'm 70 and life is about sitting around all day?
And then I get realistic with myself. What exactly am I doing to get me to where I want to be? Sitting around waiting for Nathan to knock on my door just isn't going to get me what I want. (
) Yeah, I tried the internet (not to get Nathan, mind you. I'm a silent myspace Nathan stalker
), but in a half-assed way. There were plenty of date options, but I was pretty unenthusiastic about all but one. I think you guys heard how that turned out. I get all down and out about not being attractive and no one would want me and I'm going to die alone, but really it's just me. I'm living the life that was modelled by my mother and inadvertently brought up to live (single, independent woman). If I don't make some changes to MY mindset, I will live that life to the end. It's about ME not them.
So I say, broaden your horizons, make some drastic changes, actively seek out what you want and it will come to you. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but you will get there.
Edited to say: Eek, my post is all 'you can do it' obnoxiousness. Please don't think I'm dismissing your feelings: They're completely valid. I think I got a little "me, too!" and got carried away with the 'whys' of where I'm at....Bad Rugbug.

NV- This may sounds odd, but you need to move. Not permanently, just for a year or so. Get out of that place and find something free and joyous. You have been tied to so much responsibility and stress for so long you have given all you had. It's the equivalent to sharing a scuba tank and you keep giving up your share of the oxygen to anyone else who seems to need it. You never keep any for yourself and now you're dying... Get away and go somewhere with nothing to hold you or drag you down. Find some people that don't want anything from you and make friends. Spend a year doing for yourself, NOT for anyone else. Be selfish. Eat what you want, go where you want, date women who treat you well and kindly. Feel appreciated by co-workers and others. Then , after that year, decide if you want to move back. WE LOVE YOU!

King James the first of England and sixth of Scotland was about as straight as a shoelace.
but his court full of pouting young men might have been popular with some members of this site xD

NV, when I read your post, I couldn't help but think of what Rugbug has just said out loud. Broaden your horizons, make some drastic changes. I have come to think of you living in a small community - have you thought of moving to Reno? Meeting people not normally in your current sphere?
EDIT: msg posted while I was typing this - with nearly the same thought.

"poof" is british slang for a gay man (is it just men or does it apply to women as well?)
just men.
it's odd though, in scotland it doesn't always have alot to do with sexuality, the tea i drink at work, for example (depends, but generally lady grey) is generally described as 'Sam's poofy tea' by everyone but me, and i'm fairly sure the tea hasn't been having it off with the teabags behind the back of the closet coffee...

Ooooooh, I learned something new today!
Sounds like it's used much the same way as 'fag' is here. If some low-brow thinks something is 'girly' (like lady grey tea) they might call it 'faggy' and it's also a rather degrading term for a gay man. It's one of those words that is really really insulting if you use it and aren't one yourself.
(I do know that fag means cigarette in europe, though! Ain't language grand?)

'Tis that way here as well. Things that are perceived as feminine, but being used by men are 'queer' or whatever the term of the day is (some are pretty harsh and I have a hard time even typing them). The metrosexual guys are often labelled "gay" because they do/use things that are perceived as female behaviours/traits.
But, there are no corresponding terms for masculine articles in use by women. Guess women have a LOT broader definitions for what is acceptably "heterosexual" behaviour. It's not until we start wearing comfortable shoes WITH boxy t-shirts and a flannel and cut our hair into a mullet that people start thinking of you as a lesbian (whether you are or not). Lipstick lesbians keep everybody guessing.

That's not true. It can be a lot less extreme than what you're talking about and still be considered 'dykey' by many. Short hair (especially with a T-shirt) or being mechanical or a hard drinker or a sports fan etc etc etc... And of course the love of comfy shoes. My dad once told me I had dyke shoes. There's a reason he was the last person I came out to.

well, poof isn't generally all that offensive, most of the gay blokes i know happily use it to describe themselves, and don't take umbrage at it being used around them.
but yep, i think we've gotten over the pan-atlantic confusion and we're all working off about the same hymn sheet ^^

Big difference is that they would take umbrage here. There's a lot of reasons for it (the violence directed at gay men might be a big part of it, just maybe) but they definitely use it themselves. I remember laughing soooo hard once when this gay guy I knew was teaching my gay (then) step-brother how to walk in heels and he was going "Swing your hips a little. Hold your head up. Now hold your arms like this. No, like this. Just be a fag!" and they were both grinning like idiots. But if someone else had said it, I think they would have gotten glared at.

Wikipedia is the source of course. And say, I'm sorry about the "Brit" reference. I tend to file things (and people) under the general heading of "UK" and then forget to attach the appropriate subheadings as needed. I even did it to DTH once. (By "did it" of course I don't mean did "it". Which is not to say I'm a poof either but...goodness this gets complicated.)
Oh, and PR, you didn't mention lumberjack shirts. And I've seen (at least some of) your shoes and I'd have to say they're not "dikey". "Clubby" maybe, but not dikey. Unless Clubbing and Cruising are interchangeable these days. It's hard to keep up. (really, no pun there, unless you're pervy)

Yeah I think most slurs ( be they racial or otherwise) are all about the delivery, the intent, and the person who says them.
PR- speaking of coming out you should read Neil Patrick Harris's press release... basic gist is " I don't know where these ugly rumors that I am straight are coming from. Let me assure my public that I am definitely gay. I hope this puts and end to the rumors." Made me laugh:)
British slang...took me about 20 minutes the other day to explain the whole fries/chips/crisps thing to someone. Still not sure they get it:)
It really doesn't seem that hard

Maybe because I'm from the Automotive Capital of the Earth that was, but my personal favorite has always been the bonnet/hood confusion. But it's darn neat they have parallel etymologies.

Okay, so maybe not "no corresponding terms", but certainly very few. Or maybe I'm just not that educated in that area. How often do you hear "dykey?" You even had to put it into quotes. Even the number of different terms for gay men is astounding. For women there's, what, dyke and lesbo?
For example: A nicely dressed (defined as sort of stylish, but could just be nice fitting jeans and a little t-shirt) woman at the sports bar pounding beer and cheering on her favorite team...does she get called a dyke? Nope. She gets plenty of male attention and probably more than a few of them want to take her home.
Nicely/stylishly dressed guy in a tea house, sipping his favorite blend (do they blend teas, I really don't know
) is 'faggy, queer, homo, limp wristed', etc.The labels are much more present and readily applied to men.

My current 'every day' shoes:

And these are considerably nicer than the shoes I had when I was 16. I've always gone for the more square shoe because I have square feet. They're also fairly wide for their size. And I like comfy shoes.
Even the 'clubbing' shoes are big and round in the toe.

These say "Dyke"? Maybe because of living and working in Ann Arbor for the last 30 years, they say comfortable to me. Comfortable says "dyke"? I must be completely out of touch with those what slur. Of course, being dykey doesn't make anyone my enemy anyway. *shrugs* Never liked labels.

Oh man, I feel better. As for who'd I rather be hit by, I'd say Rosie. Just for the sheer fact I could take it like a man and not laugh. That is simply ego destroying for a fella who wishes to lash out and inflict pain.
Possibly alot of the feelings I've had in the past few days are me trying not to return to the codependant self I'm so used to. I do and do and really don't wish for acknowledgement, but I really coulda used some yesterday.
And rugbug, you are right to say what you said. I actually have been doing that, but I was in fear of the fact I might be stepping back into the door mat role. That actually scared me. Ok mine aren't that bad Jonny:) In fact mine are cute enough to wear sandals:) I'd guess those feet belong to a dancer who danced until about age 30-32 Sadly I only danced until age 19. So mine aren't so hashed( yes I said sadly as I'd gladly trade prettier feet for the dance career I was supposed to have)
A Mary Jane shoe is one with a strap running across the upper bridge of the foot
examples

and wikipedia says
Mary Jane is an American term for a kind of strap shoe that typically have low heels, rounded closed toes, and a buckled strap across the instep. They are often made of black patent leather, although some current incarnations can be in a wide array of colors and are also made of canvas or suede.
Traditionally Mary Janes are a variety of shoe worn mainly by girls, but historically have been worn by boys as well. In modern times they are worn by women of all ages, however, while Mary Janes may be considered formal for girls, they are considered informal when worn by women

Can't stay, have to fly, but I had to say two things.
First - I can't believe no one has mentioned The Operative in 'Kinky Boots' yet!!!
Second - NVG, a soul like yours is not meant to walk through this life unloved. She's out there. Don't worry. You'll find her. Stay happy, okay? And I echo everyone else on the explore and enjoy and have fun and stuff. Going somewhere else might be a good idea for a while. You have a lot of history where you are. Every now and then you need to break free and just be someone else for a bit. I know, I know, says the girl who's barely set foot outside Dublin, but it's still true!

As for the comparison of a well dressed woman slamming down beers and the men wanting to take her home... Yeah, but I'd probably want to take a well-dressed tea-drinking man home.
