Wow!

I have to say that I always thought River was somewhat attractive, but maybe it was the off-the-freakin-map insanity of her character which turned me off. Personally, I loved Kaylee's face, Inara's body and Zoe's attitude. (Not that I'm objectifying women in any way here... okay, maybe a little )

After seeing some of the pics on this thread though, I may have to re-evaulate my initial thoughts on Summer's undeniable appeal.

IMO, Summer has incomparable eyes and a smile to die for. There was a quickening of the pulse when I clicked over to this article, there was. Gotta say I'm a little bit disappointed with her character on 'The Unit' of late, though. I guess I just want my River back.

Summer is defintely beautiful. I loved her work on Firefly, and if you read the article early on she mentions that she filming a new pilot on Fox.

Glau: Well, I'm not supposed to say yet. It's supposed to be a surprise. But it's killing me, because they've announced some of the other characters, but I'm not supposed to say. My character is a surprise. It's a pilot.

I'm suprised that nobody has said this yet, but Wha-wha-wha-wha whatsit all about? So, yeah. Also, Desktop Hippie made me laugh. I'm happy that Firefly is being remembered by the mucky mucks over at IGN. I dunno about this whole 'hottest' thing. I mean, I absolutely love Summer, I mean, River is absolutely one of my fave characters. But still, I mean, she has the body of a 14 year old. To me, she still looks 14. I just can't think of her as in a is she hot or not type of thing. The whole time I was watching her on the 4400, I was like, she's in love with Kevin? He's old enough to be her, I dunno, grandfather? And I'm not one of those people who think everybody older than them is ancient. I mean, I happen to think that even fifty is still pretty young in the scheme of things, but still....

In my understanding, attractiveness can be divided into "sexy" and "cute". I, myself, will take cute over sexy any time. Especially since cute girls are sexy (and it's very often not vice versa), at least to me. There's nothing wrong with, say, Angelina Jolie, but Alyson Hannigan is far more appealing to me.
And Summer... Summer is INCREDIBLY cute. I mean, like, wheeeeeeeeeeee-cute! Over-cute. The Empress of Cute-opia. Cute-a-lishious. You get my drift.
As a matter of fact, I don't like her "style" pics that much, but I could stare at snapshots of her or behind-the-scenes footage all shiny day until my eyes would turn to raisins. A picture of her smiling is much more interesting to me than one of Pamela Anderson flashing her boobies, or (yuck) Paris Hilton. I'd rather have a smile brighten the room than a titty.
Also, a woman turns me on far more if I find myself looking more at parts of her body that aren't a man's obvious choice... I've seen my share of fine boobies and bottoms in my time (must have been a good boy in my last life), but it's stuff like a small wrinkle showing at a smile, or the way Summer points her toes when she's lying down, or flappy ears, or shyness, or a sparkling in the eyes that make me all fuzzy and warm inside. Dong-ma?
To finally get back to the subject, I wouldn't call Summer a "babe", because in my view, that would be more like an insult to her. I like her just fine the way she is, un-babed (without make-up, fancy clothes and photoshop), and there is nothing sexier than that.

Yes, I do have a fanboy crush on her. Bite me.

Agatsu - I see where you're coming from there. I think it's down to one's personal definition of 'sexy'. I mean, personally I use 'hot', 'sexy', 'babe' etc. simply if I find an aspect of that particular woman attractive, regardless of if that espect is traditionally considered 'sexy', or more toward the 'cute' or 'pretty' department. I agree with what you say about the "style" pics, they ain't her best. Still nice, but not the best shots of her. Her eyes and her smile are har best aspects, so any pics emphasising those characteristics are the best. Still, any pic of Summer's a good pic of Summer, if you ask me!

It was a TV movie about an alien substance resurrecting a mammoth in a museum. It's intentionally cheesy (obviously), and it ain't half bad, and quite funny at times. Summer is excellent, of course. She plays a scientist's daughter.

While I do prefer larger breasts (and all the rest that implies) (ladies, you know what I mean), I've also got an intimate working knowledge of just about every female body style you'd care to imagine. I can say this without fear of contradiction: They're all wonderful.

A woman is beautiful -- or not -- and it's got very little to do with her physical body. All the girls of Firefly are beautiful in this particular way, even though (or especially because) they are different from stereotypical female characters on TV. They are not, as my wife puts it, just 'tits and lip gloss' trotted across the stage to attract prurient male interest.

...Okay, so Inara's got the lip gloss, but the rest of them are definitely not 'T & LG'.

(NB: That was a joke, not a slam on those who've undergone a mastectomy.)

So, to sum up succinctly: Yes, I'm a fan of well-endowed women, to include curvaceous hips and as much tummy as it takes to get aforementioned breasts; I acknowledge that others may prefer slender (as a board) women, and welcome them to it (more buxom women left over for me); women who are either smallish by nature or by circumstance are not less womanly or less desirable; a woman is desirable based on an intangible mix of internal and external characteristics (there is no secret recipe for success, so just be yourself).

While I do prefer larger breasts (and all the rest that implies...ladies, you know what I mean), I've also got an intimate working knowledge of just about every female body style you'd care to imagine. I can say this without fear of contradiction: They're all wonderful.

In addition, in her dorsal nude scene in Mal's cabin ("I swell to think of you in me" *gulp!*), the attentive viewer can see that Ms. Hendricks carries a little extra subcutaneous fat at her hips. Right in my personal roundhouse, as the baseballers say.

Personality-wise, she may not be as attractive, or she may become irresistible.

It should be noted that I am also more attracted to dark hair and eyes. Therefore, I am predisposed to appreciate the facial qualities of Morena, Summer and Gina (in no particular order). The most attractive actress on the planet, in accordance with all my previously enumerated tenets, is Paz Vega (Flor, of "Spanglish", http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0891895), who is acutely under-discovered in the motion picture industry, IMHO...

P.S.
While I most closely relate to the character of River (hence, my avatar), I find Summer's taped appearances at various CONs reveal her as somewhat overly self-conscious and shy. She might be more self-assured and personable out of the limelight; but based on my brashly assertive personality, I couldn't see us lasting more than 5 minutes in conversation. And that's a damned shame. She strikes me as a perfectly lovely young woman; but, I'd avoid her like the plague, strictly in order to avoid crushing her apparently delicate psyche. Sooner or later, I wind up rubbing everyone the wrong way. In Summer's case, I suspect it'd be much sooner than later. I'd not inflict myself on her for much more than a brief greeting.

P.P.S.
Also, keep in mind that I'm happily married for 18 years this April 5th, and old enough to be everyone but Gina's father. I'm speaking strictly academically, here. BTW, my wife has brown-black hair, dark brown eyes, tends to blush deeply when aroused (in either the good or bad way), and is *ahem* prodigiously bosomed. By which I mean, I have been truly blessed by a generous God, who knows and loves me well, despite my flaws...

I am deeply introspective by nature, and yet totally comfortable/compulsive in sharing what I ascertain about myself and the world through such introspection. Gaining and sharing Knowledge is the only goal in life worth pursuing (possessions, physical perfection and fame/glory are fleeting and ultimately worthless). How can humans know each other unless they know themselves first, and then completely disclose that knowledge with others, any and all others?

So -- even though I know you meant no slight by the comment -- I make no apologies for 'sharing' without reservation. In my book, it's the only way to be.

As I state in my Profile page, I was once 'painfully introverted'. But, I recognized it as a stumbling block to my complete development (or 'Enlightenment', as Eastern philosophers would have it) and banished it by force of will from my personality.

Being outspoken is hard at first, for those of us predisposed to shyness. But it gets easier as you practice. Total honesty is crucial, to my way of thinking. I don't 'gild the lily', and I show the good and bad, side by side. I'm not perfect, but I'm as honest as I can humanly be...

Being me isn't all peaches and cream. Not by a long stretch. People should know that. Being an open book can be icky, even under the best circumstances. Still, 'faint heart ne'er won fair lady'.

My approach to life (gaining and sharing knowledge) has allowed me to accomplish some truly astonishing things in my life; things that most humans could never hope to accomplish with a more conventional mode of behavior. Ergo, I'm satisfied that my philosophy has been appropriate, for me.
(NB: Even if people frequently misapprehend the motivations behind my 'forwardness'.)

Being an insufferable egoist (i.e., a human being), I highly recommend my philosophy to everyone. As my Mom would say, 'Misery loves company'.

Then you are a far braver person than I right now, since I gave up being forthright once I received more flak than the Allies air forces had to fly through during the Second World War. That and in the case of my father, it was like trying to educate a concrete wall: only bruised myself trying to breach the surface

I'd have to know what kind of 'horse' you were specifically talking about. Girls? Or just being openly vocal in social situations, in general?

...Really, though, it's the same principle in either case. Just open up and tell people how you feel, what you think is best about the world, and what you think could use some improving. I mean, you consider yourself an introvert, so you must spend a lot of time thinking about things that are important to you. Share what you've found with others. Listen to what they have to say and compare/contrast with your findings.

But being forthright also means being rejected sometimes. When you express yourself, when you honestly reveal yourself to others, some people may take a instant dislike to you. Fair enough, yeah? The good news is that you find out who you're compatible with -- either a specific female or an entire social clique -- early on in the experience, instead of dragging things out for an extended period of time by keeping your true self bottled up.

The good news is that if you're with the right people, you'll find that they're tolerant of others' ideas and notions. That's why I'm so particularly fond of this website. Most folks in the world only want to be communicated with -- give and take -- without a lot of extraneous BS. But you can't really communicate with others if you're hiding in a shell, can you?

One more piece of advice: You're good enough for the world. You don't have to get 'better' to merit the companionship of others. Just open up and share yourself, warts and all. Other folks will accept you because everyone's a little self-conscious in some way or t'other, and they'll share themselves with you in return. Everyone wants to be unconditionally loved, and we should readily give that which we hope to receive.

As for those who don't like you, when you open up: Well, it's a big world, is it not? Plenty of room to just slide right past each other, if it comes to that. Important: Never chase after someone/group who isn't excited to associate with you. Be polite, but never change or try to hide who you are, deep inside. Remember, you're good enough, just the way you are.

That's about all I can think of, on such an open-ended question...

I hasten to add that you must know yourself, first and foremost. This is the hardest part for young people. You're still learning who you are. Take your time in the discovery; there's no hurry. You can still be honest about yourself, though. If you don't know something about yourself, just say, "I don't know". That's honest, and people will respect you for that. The right kind of people will, anyway...
