Sorry....had to share this bit of news with my "other" family!
My brother and sister-in-law announced tonight that they are going to be parents! Which means....I am going to be an uncle! How shiny is that, eh?
She is about six weeks or so along...the due date is right around the time of DragonCon...so I may be taking a quick trip to the hospital to meet my neice or nephew that weekend.
They got to hear the heartbeat today. The look in my brother's eyes when he was telling me about it was just...it was definitely a "wow" moment!

I am going to be an uncle! Whoo!

Sorry. This is something I wanted everyone to know.

Congrats man. Lucky kid. That would have been cool if I had an uncle who could make me chainmail diapers.

Not to mention diapers with the Independent logo on them. Can you make a browncoat small enough to fit?

From one new Uncle to another, congrats.

Exactly how young is too young when it comes to exposure to Firefly? I'm looking forward to showing the series to my Niece and hopefully making the next generation of Browncoats in the process.

Flash forward some few years...

"At the weekend, we went to Uncle Tristan's house. It is way cool. He has lots of swords and stuff. We had eg and chips, but he made me eat it with chopsticks. Dad says he's a bit weird..."

It's way more fun when you can give them back.

Oh, and ...he has a pony and a plastic rocket... only the pony is a jousting pony, and that plastic rocket is full sized and we can actually fly in it - but he says we can't leave the Earths atmosphere yet coz of the whole plastic melts thing!

She will NOT think the show is weird because Uncle Tristan is going to thoroughly indoctrinate her (starting now, by the way, she can hear you) so that Firefly is reality and everything else is just not as shiny.

She will grow up bilingual in English and Chinese, she will have a healthy suspicion for Big Government and an empathy for the downtrodden, she will be generous when someone is in need, she will be brave when she has to be. She'll be great.

Thank you all! No, they do not know the sex yet. According to the doctors, he/she is about the size of a shrimp right now...so it may be a little while before we know.
This is definitely going to be a fun experience! And yes, he or she will be a Browncoat from day one!

Everything in here had me rolling....Independent-labeled diapers, chain mail diapers, mini-Browncoat, wind 'em up and give 'em back, eating with chopsticks, everything! I had a huge grin on my face reading all of this.

Thank you all again!

Hehe....I'm going to be an uncle to a terrifying space monkey!

There's nothing better than spoiling children who aren't yours and giving them back after sugaring them up!

The chain mail diapers are THE BEST!

"Uncle Tristan, can I please play with the battle axe?"

"Not until you've put all those maces and swords away!"

Short of having one of your own, that's like the best news ever! With the obvious benefits of unclehood v. fatherhood and being born into a Firefly Family have already been hooted about. So that just leaves me with one question: Uncle Tom in Alabama? I don't know, just seems out of place somehow. I'd stick with the Unka T or Uncle Tristan approach myself.

But anyway, Happy Birthday, roomie. I'll keep the bed warm for you if you have to duck out for birthing purposes. (That didn't sound right at all, did it?)

Oh and Magda?

Congrats Tristan. It's always good to be around young ones so that we can feel young ourselves. The best part is when you give them their first drum set. I still can't figure out why my sister got so upset.

Thank you all again!
There will be plenty of Firefly regalia around the child...up until my sis-in-law chases me off!
Playing with all the weapons...yeah, I can imagine that my brother is going to get some interesting calls from the school...hehehe!

And yeah...Uncle Tom in Alabama....that is kinda weird. Uncle T will work out just fine.

Drum set....hmm....
