We keep on growing! The Proboard is up to 110+ members registered, and we keep adding names to the Battalion Roster here:
http://76thbattalion.homestead.com/index.html

Our dedicated messageboard:
http://76thbattalion.proboards59.com/index.cgi

Seeing as it has been awhile, I'll go ahead and post our basic rules and regulations, along with a few photos so those that have no idea what's going on will get an idea.

We represent a newly-formed unit of Independent soliders at the outbreak of the hostilities (prior to Du Khang and Serenity Valley).
First and foremost, remember that this is a fan-based organization, and our first rule is "Show up. March. Have Fun!"

Our inaugural march will be taking place at DragonCon in Atlanta in September of 2007. Until that date, we ask all recruits to refrain from wearing the uniform in public.

We do have a few rules and regulations that must be met in order to be considered as a member, including uniform requirements and weapons requirements. These will be outlined below. Please be sure to read over all the information and confirm that you can meet all of these requirements before applying for membership. We are not trying to keep people out, but we do want to present a united, uniform Battalion of Independent soldiers, and one of the best ways to do this is to look the same.

There are two basic types of uniforms we will be using: Type A and Type B.

Type A will use Mal as a model:

This "uniform" consists of the following:
•Pants with brown stripes up the sides of the legs – please see below for approved merchants.
•An undershirt – black or brown, long-sleeved. Button-ups are acceptable but preferably without a high collar.
•The red vest that the CO has designed. You may either purchase from him or ask for a pattern and fabric swatch.
•The overcoat that the CO has designed. You may either purchase from him or ask for a pattern and fabric swatch.
•Helmet – needed for parade, but other head coverings approved for non-marching appearances (see below).
•Boots – please see below for approved styles and merchants.
•Scarf – Red for enlisted, blue for officers.
•Dark brown belt – 2” is recommended.

The Type B uniform uses Zoe as a model:

This "uniform" consists of the following:
•Pants with brown stripes up the sides of the legs – please see below for approved merchants.
•An undershirt – black or brown, long-sleeved. Button-ups are acceptable but preferably without a high collar.
•The red vest that the CO has designed. You may either purchase from him or ask for a pattern and fabric swatch.
•The "smock" that is worn underneath the red vest. You may either purchase from him or ask for a pattern and fabric swatch.
•Mail sleeves – please see below for approved choices.
•Helmet – needed for parade, but other head coverings approved for non-marching appearances (see below).
•Boots – please see below for approved styles and merchants.
•Scarf – Red for enlisted, blue for officers.
•Dark brown belt – 2” is recommended.

General notes on the uniforms:
•While in all the battle scenes we have seen on screen the uniforms have seen some wear and tear, our unit will not appear that way. DO NOT distress your parade uniform. This pristine uniform is the first uniform we request you have so that you will be able to represent us properly. If you wish to have a ‘battle worn’ look, we ask that you please reserve this for personal appearances and have this as your secondary uniform.

•Sidearms are left up to the individual (pistol and knife--please have them approved by Command before wearing). You DO NOT have to wear a pistol or knife if you do not want to. Note that all knives will need to be peace-bonded for the duration of any appearance you make in uniform.

•Bags and pouches can help complete your outfit. These are

And some photos of the shindig at the Colonel's this past weekend.
(Please note that not all of the uniforms are complete....it's not necessary to bring this up, we are well aware of it. We got together for fun, and took some fun photos. Just enjoy! )

Nice job on the uniforms, couple of questions though...

I posted this as "Browncoats Uniforms" but I'll repeat it here.

In the pilot the LT. patch is star up with the flat of the patch parallel with the shoulder.

Mal's patch is point up with the star reversed & he has a dark border around the patch...so what gives? Is your information based on something other that the footage which is colfictory?

Also Mals gun in the pilot is a french assault rile & is a bullpup configuration, although I like your substitution.

RojBlake, thanks for the questions.

We are basing our patch orientation on this:

From the pilot episode. Yes, there is debate that the costumer wanted it the other way, that this was a mistake, that it is shown the other way in other scenes...but for the sake of the 76th, that is the way we are wearing it.
As for the weapons, we did talk about Mal using a different weapon in The Message, but as everyone else used the G36, that is the weapon we went with. If you'll look at the photo of Mal and the photo of Zoe in the first post on this thread, you'll see they both have the G36K. It was the common weapon of the Independents.
Not quite sure what you mean by "colfictory"...not a word I have come across.

This probably does not answer your question properly, but I can only speak for the 76th on this matter.

Sorry make that Conflictory which may also be misspelled.

The photo you show is right after he takes the patch off the lieutennant so that's why I say it's in conflict, also (this is my opinion) it seems to me that it makes more sense to have the star upright. Does anyone make the patch with the dark border?

Also as far as the weapons go, he uses a french rifle in this sequence as well, not that it matters my view was that the browncoats had to make do with what they had, much like the Confederate army of the Civil war/War between the States of our 19th century.

It could also be because Mal is a senior noncom, during the VietNam war many sergeants carried the CAR-15 which was essentially a short version of the M-16, the patch difference might also be for the same reason since any insignia other that the Independent patch is noticably absent.

I've now got three recruits signed up all on my lonesome. :)

That, and the CO's got my order for coats and vests for me and Daisy. Getting more and more excited about D*C every day.

My car'll be interesting riding down. Three 76th'ers all in the same car. Gonna be popping Firefly into the DVD player and will actually be able to watch the entire series on the ride down.

I must find some way of decorating the car... Any ideas?

Hey Jimi; my husband will be in Australia on a motorcycle rally; we've got critters-dogs/chickens and lots of motorcycles; so, I'm trying to find someone to stay here for the weekend; which is difficult as it's a holiday and folks like to be off doing their fun stuff; so I may end up driving down early, early Sat....and returning that night if I think my back(or lower regions) can stand the journey! I'll know closer to the event. Husband has lots of rather valuable bikes lying about and not all belong to him so somebody's gotta be here to keep an eye on things.

Ho-ly- crap. I had no idea how big this thing was going to be. Way to go, Tristan, only someone with as much energy and dedication as yourself could have ever pulled this off.

I wish I could say I've missed you all the past couple of months, but to be perfectly honest I didn't even remember my home phone number untill we got back last week. But everything's coming back to me now, and I'm proud to remember that I wear a brown coat in the civi world. The way things are looking, I might even make it to Dragon Con, though I am currently pending a possible ART 15 for Assault (probably wont go through). Best thing is, I got so much hazpay and enlist-bonus money saved up, I could get myself a fully decked out 76th BRG uniform inside of a month. We'll just have to see how things turn out for me. As for you guys, I'm gonna browse around a little, see what's been happening while I'm gone. I should be on for the next couple of hours if anyone wants to shoot messages back and forth.

My coat is almost done!

The CO has said he's going to work on getting my coat and vest off to me sometime either later this week or early next week. If I can't find some grosgrain for my pants (which I haven't ordered yet), he has also said he's got some for my stripe. Been looking to lose a little bit of weight before the pants get ordered. (Gonna wait another month of two. Dropped a few pounds as it is. Yay!) Since I'm going to be paying for the coat and vest, it'll be easier to space out the purchases.

I'll be getting three pins from Zephyr for me, PVT Shen and PVT Black. Check should be sent today or tomorrow. Just need the beret...

My holster is on the way! I've now got an itch to head to the sporting goods store and check out some niftysweet airsoft pistols. Beretta 92 in black is appealing to me. I am considering using some copperish paint to 'verse it up, but I am not sure how it'd turn out. Maybe when I'm feeling really brave.

Slowly but surely, my uniform is getting done.

I'M SO EXCITED!!!

My crests from Zephyr are in the mail on their way here.
My sister's boots from Artcat are on their way over here.
My holster from Mircea is in the mail on its way here.
The colonel's still a few days away from finishing my coat. (No rush, sir!)
I ordered grosgrain for the pant stripe from ebay and that should be on its way too.

Add into that my Sharpe's Rifles DVDs and I've got quite a few packages coming!
