so i went home for spring break, and i started watching a bit of tv since i have none at school. i ran across an hbo schedule with the movie "Serenity" showing. didn't really hear much about it before, but what i've heard is all positive; "my favorite film" types of comments.

i loved it. it takes a lot for a movie to make it to my "favorite" list, but Serenity's comic moments, colorful characters, heart-pounding action, and realism (no sound in space...only movie i know that has that, or..doesn't have it) made it an easy favorite.

so i started watching the tv show.

i loved it more. i was surprised how interested and entertained i could be by a tv show and its characters. Firefly is like nothing i've ever seen.

my questions are:
1) is there any hope of a comeback of a tv show, spinoff show, or a movie?
2) i'm a bit late, but what can i do to help the show?
3) which idiot at fox cancelled one of the best sci-fi shows in gorram history? (i didn't say the best only because i've made Stargate SG-1 my lifetime favorite tv show, but Firefly's just microns away)

Howdy, and welcome aboard. I'm sure a more official welcoming will come shortly. Your experience and questions are pretty common (as you can see from some of the other threads from new-folk around here). Obviously, we all love Firefly, as to your questions:
1)We're all holding out hope and doing what we can to ensure there will be more (nothing is officially forthcoming atm).
2)Spread the word, get everyone you can interested and motivated for more (there are some great ideas in the guerilla marketing thread), take part in the upcomming Serenity Now/Equality Now events.
3)We don't know specifically who (probably for the best, considering the unpleasantness that would occur if we did) but universally acknowledge the stupidity of the fox execs.

Welcome Browncoat. You're lucky you saw the movie first. I think I would have liked it if I did, but I saw the show first and I'm of the school of thought here that the movie was a total bummer on so many levels.

The only other space movie I'm aware of that doesn't have any sound in space is 2001 and if you haven't seen that little gem you're lucky and you should avoid it at all costs. Longest Film class of my life that movie was.

Glad you enjoyed the show.

As for your questions....

1) Even I got hope, and if you stick around a while you'll know that coming from me that is a whole lot considering I'm a total glass is half empty kinda guy.
2) Plenty of things. Sure other coats will fill you in. I'd imagine anything within the realm of legality (and if you don't get caught, even stuff outside of that realm.... of course I'm not suggesting anything here).
3) I personally feel that the overall message of the show was very contrarian to the current administration and its goals. I believe that it was sabotaged from the beginning, which is why it was played out of order and the season wasn't even allowed to be played out while we're on the 30th season of According to Jim meanwhile.

But what do I know? I'm just one of the resident nutjob conspiracy theorists here.

yea i was lucky i went on wikipedia and saw the table with the Episodes (Intended Viewing Order) before i started so i could watch the tv show in the actual order (never seen a network mess up that badly). i heard the network aired order had some confusing moments...characters doing seemingly out-of-place things...

ANSWERS

1) = = maybe, especially with the Special Edition DVD of Serenity that means Universal might testing out to see if it sells well like the orginal DVD then maybe they might get us our Sequel.

2) = Just spread the word lend out your DVDs to friends, family,ect, buy the merchandise(t-shirts, replicas,dvds,zippo lighters,ect) to make money for Universal, get listening to podcasts(The Signal & FireflyTalk notably) for wyas to help & hear about all things Firefly & Serenity

3) = don't know but I'd like to give him a piece of my mind + Stargate doesn't even touch Firefly in terms of quality & uniqueness or anything else, its not even in my top 10 shows,its my 11th favorite show.

Ummmm, the episodes are in the proper order on the DVDs, so just start with Disc 1.

I've heard of people watching the episodes according to the actual Fox airdates, but then you're just re-constructing the hack job the network did: You'd be watching the "Serenity" pilot last!

Others have answered most of your questions, but I'll add that you can also enjoy the graphic novel "Serenity: Those Left Behind" (amazon.com and elsewhere), the viral marketing vids "The River Tam Sessions" (YouTube), and the "Official Visual Companion" books (one for the Big Damn Movie, one for the Firefly series with a second volume on the way).

It's a tradition around here to hand out a Browncoat to new folks who find their way to our nice boat. Most often it's FollowMal who does the distribution, but sometimes she gets a bit... wistful... while visiting the Captain's cabin.

So when that happens, I dig out my little stash of used virtual coats. Here, this one might fit you pretty well. Just never mind the patches, and those stains aren't what you think they are.

A1) There’s always hope. As an avid watcher of the History channel I've heard sailors from sunken ships say when they are lost in the water, "Once you've given up hope you're dead." SO, we never will give up hope. Right now it's the thing we have here in the black. We hold until we get the show back!Or maybe another BDM.

2) i'm a bit late, but what can i do to help the show?

A2) Well there's always the "Big Bang" theory. Recruit enough browncoat buddies and "Bang" on Universals, F*X or any other entertainment companies door and we will be heard. Hell they know we're here right now. The browncoats keep putting thorns in a lions paw. We are an irritation to them. An irritation that won't go away, and btw it's fun

A3) In my estimation the brains go all the way to the top. Even the stupid ones .For some reason they were out to doom FF. They asked Joss for something, they got it, and then they dropped the ball on their end. That’s not to say I don't disagree with their first evaluation of the show. If was slow at the starting gate with viewer numbers. But since that time the numbers have improved dramatically, so there should have been a reevaluation of the property. There in the blame lies.

Anyhoo, just some lengthy answers to you questions. Sorry I was so long winded. It's just going to be that kind of day for me.

Did you see the joke article that one of the Al Qaeda guys infiltrated Fox and cancelled Firefly? Hi-larious. Every night at the end of the CBC news, they promo their website and the picture is the same one of the Al Qaeda dude. My husband and I laugh every time. It's a little (obscure and disturbing) Firefly moment for my day.

Welcome, new fan!! :D I am relatively new too, only caught on to the series and movie a month or two ago.

Stay tuned to this MB periodically, to hear about events, "voting" opportunities, etc. That's a good way to help the resurrection effort. As you probably saw, Serenity was recently voted "best sci-fi movie" on IMDB thanks to the fan support, which made big waves in the movie community at large, and brought attention to the show once again - every little bit of attention helps. :)

Browncoat - Couple of meanings. Mostly here, it's just a fan of the show, but Mal and Zoe were Browncoats who fought the Alliance in the Unification War.

BDM - Big Damn Movie (Serenity)

BDH - Big Damn Hero(s)

Sure there's a list somewhere. I'm still learning as I go along. I've only watched the show and the movie once so far.
