As most everyone knows, Can't Stop The Serenity will start approaching fast once we get into the month of March.

This year I plan on setting up a screening on (or around) June 23rd; I plan on starting talks with Fleur Cinema within the next few weeks.

What I'd like to know is how many people are interested; the more interest, the more likely the theatre will be willing to work with us!

I chose Fleur Cinema in Des Moines because the state's capitol is right in the center of Iowa -- making it more accessible to more people.

If as many Iowan Browncoats could respond to this as possible, I'd really appreciate it! Also, if you could direct me toward other places where I could get into contact with potentially interested IA Browncoats, that'd be great. :)

Thanks!

Hi, I'm new to the site, and might not be officially considered a browncoat, but I've been a huge Firefly fan for a few years now, and have converted a number of people. (and I'm from Cedar Falls)

I might be able to attend the screening, but I'm friends with some of the people in the MN group and might go up there for that screening. all depends on how the schedules work out.

Count me in, and I believe I would have a party of 8-10.

Anonymous1, thanks so much for compiling the headcount! It's very helpful, especially since I recently got an influx of emails from various people expressing interest.

I plan on calling either Varsity or Fleur Cinema (Fleur first) this week and seeing how willing they'd be to help us out with this thing. :) I'm really excited to get this started, though the whole money aspect is a little intimidating! I'm sure everything will work out, though.

It looks like tickets won't be too expensive, either, which is very nice. This week will be about negotiating theater size and price, and the possibility of prize drawings and door prizes.

I'll keep you updated!

WE'RE CONFIRMED, PEOPLE.

Thursday, June 21st (that's as close to the 23rd as I could get) at 7:00pm, Fluer Cinema in Des Moines. 4545 Fleur Drive.

I know that Thursday may not be the best day for people, but weekends are really difficult to get booked for these things. I got a great deal on the theatre, too, and they're willing to let us have a table to sell merchandise/hold raffles/etc.

I'm so happy this is actually going to happen!

Oh, and the website's up, as well. Use that link to stay updated; I'll post here occasionally, too.

Been awhile since the thread's been posted in. I still think half a dozen is a nice number. I'm going to widen my net and see if I can't rope some other people into it.

I do have this suggestion, though. For those of us who are the iron core of this (that is, the FFFers!) I think we need little name doo-hickeys. I think I might recognize Pengy from the photo threads, but I sure as blazes won't know anybody else. And I want so very badly to plant a big wet one on Miss Badgergirl for getting this organized (or, possibly, just a handshake).

Great to hear that you're still trying to get more people interested! I keep sending out reminders to all my local folk -- pretty sure they're sick of me by now, heh.

Name tags are a fantastic idea! I'll likely be at the main check-in table (at least around 6-6:30), but I'll be sure to be wearing one! I know that I wouldn't recognize anyone, so that'll be a useful thing to have going. Big wet ones, hugs, handshakes; all are very welcome. I'm just glad this is all going according to plan (with only a few bumps along the way)!

Also, in case anyone didn't catch it on the event website, we'll be having a costume contest in the theatre lobby at 6:15.

I actually sent them a press release early last week! We seem to be on the same wavelength.

I don't actually live in the DM area, so if anyone could keep an eye out to see if it hits the IowaLife section and give us a heads-up, that'd be amazing.

I also sent press releases out to Sioux Falls, the Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Spencer, Ottumwa, and couple other cities in the corners of the state. Wanted to make sure that word got out as far as it could!
