Sloppy seconds? Bah!

NCIS last night was good, best line was probably Palmer's "wet-vac for the Soylent Green", and it was nice to see he's not grappling with Agent Lee (or is it Li?) every single eppy. Not sure if the director was offering LtCol Mann a job at NCIS once her CID tenure runs out, could be interesting to have her as a part(or full) timer next season. Sadly, they didn't show a 'next-week' bit at the end, which means we either have to sit through another block of repeats, or it's being taken off to make way for another show.

Yes Nicodemus it is that time of year for reruns and preempting for special programming.

Last night was the Miss Universe contest. I guess Miss United States got booed. A political thing I imagine. Thank goodness we have these contests to bring people together.

Actually I am watching less TV all the time. I hardly remember to watch the shows I do like.

I missed the last Medium and it was the final episode of a four part series. Curses. Now will have to an eye out for this series to return in reruns this summer.

I'm at work again. We shreaded about 8 years worth of back records. It was fun I pretended we were criminals destroying evidence before the authorites arrived. Then the industrial shreaded broke. It's not as much fun to rip up hundreds of papers with your bare hands.

A study of the tv schedule for the next 7 days has confirmed my suspicions. We're back to random repeats, in particular, Tony's frame-up, so we get Chip (the short-term mustachioed minion of Abby) back, even if just for one episode.

Hey Copilot!! That's exactly the sort of game I play to get through some of the less interesting things in life!! It's good to know I am not the only one who does such silly things!

Hi there NVG!! Hello Traveler!! I miss you men heaps at times - and Hello my twin brother (Kelkhil)!! I took some pics to make into twin emotes for you and Laurelin so I will post those here as soon as I have actually... you know... made them into emotes...

Awwww... Nico - I missed it!! I have been watching much less of channel 10 since Big Brother came back on - it just irritates me to pieces and it's easier to avoid that channel altogether than jump up and down changing or muting the TV (I'm at Mum and Dad's so there's no such thing as a working remote - actually the TV takes about 20 mins on average to warm up and actually work properly so... )

James!!! Where are you going???

How's things folks?

mornin' Imponderables.

NVG - Good to hear about the alone time and decisions and such that were made (from the last thread, sorry)

*glomps Magda*

Traveler - Not sure of your feelings on this sort of thing, and also not sure if your show is on here, but you can check these links and see if you can find the episode you missed:

I so love being glomped - thank you all!!

I feel kind of weird today - not sure if it's my stupid cold that won't go away, or if I am just feeling low on account of a few things that have happened of late... I am confuzzled and weird... but you all knew that about me - didn't you! Either way I feel ever so much better for popping for a cup of water and finding mass glompage waiting for me!!

Hey Traveler - I just realised you were talking about 'Medium' - I am watching it right now - well more listening to it I guess since it's on in the other room and I am on the computer!!

Are we discussing something?

If you tell Mum then I will tell her something about you that I made up... and she will believe me!

But channel 10's showing full-length ads for Torchwood now. Even though, in true style, they've already spoiled things.

This station has a habit of including bits from the very ends of episodes in their ads, and giving away major plots twists, thus their teaser ads for Torchwood gave away the 'twist' for the first episode before they'd even mentioned Jack's name.

Oh, it gets even better MsG. While Dr Who continues to be shown on the same channel that's broadcast it since the beginning (ie, 1960s), Torchwood was picked up by a commercial station better known for Big Brother, Australian Idol, The Biggest Loser (and American Idol, delayed telecast by a few months, shown when they need a reality tv show to fill in the gaps while the others are on holiday).

And worse still (extreme spoilers):

Select to view spoiler:

At the end of season 1 Torchwood (by end of season I mean final 30 seconds), Jack gets collected by the TARDIS, although they never show it, just the sounds and wind, then he's not there. In the previews for the second half of Dr Who 2007 (season 30 if you want to be accurate, since there were 27 or so before it stopped in the 80s), Jack is shown romping thru time and space with the Doctor and Martha. The problem is that due to scheduling, Jack will re-appear on Dr Who in Australia before he's vanished from Torchwood, causing some continuity problems for the casual viewers and the fans who haven't seen internet downloads of the eps.

Well the baby duckies are safe and sound...and we didn't even need to trap them. Happy Wednesday to all!

I had an extra long holiday weekend that left me tired, but feeling very accomplished. Did a ton of riding (almost more than I wanted) with the highlight being cross country schooling yesterday. ( and being the horrible person I am, I was very pleased with the fact that I rode massively better than the obnoxious kid that came along as well. She's sooooo arrogant, without the skill to back it up, that it can be hard to not feel smug. ) I am now all poised to do my very first three day event in about three weeks. Eek!

Ah, but fun isn't often a good enough reason to do something. 'Tis the reason that gets a lot of people into serious trouble.

The reviews have varied. The worst I've seen was the dude from the Daily Mail but then again he does write for the Daily Mail and therefore his opinion is immediately disregarded.

It was just a shock. Seems no one just shaves their head these days unless they are trying to keep cool or are having some health issues.

Lord knows I've been annoyed by my hair blowing in my face this weekend and considered doing the same.

But now ya had to go and ruin it by shaving yours first. Seems I have to settle for a mohawk style .

RIMG did it first!! (And the shock value is priceless!)

Actually I usually go quite short for the summer. I'm just way early this year and I've always wanted to do the cue, so with a long weekend available and some time on our hands, MsQ fixed me up right. Female feedback has been POS-I-TIVE. Not advocating, just observing.

As for the Mohawk, always a neat look but at the same time everyone I've ever seen one in is a scary Martha Fokker. Not to mention you'd have some heritage issues, wouldn't you? I mean us whiteys are just wannabees, but you'd prolly be accused of making some kind of "statement", no? Even if you got nothin' to say?

No no NV a faux hawk ...here I'll show you
Faux Hawk - A haircut that is a mock version of a full Mohawk (see Mohawk definition below). Referred to as "chicken hawks" by traditional Mohawk wearers. U.S. soccer player Clint Mathis was famous for his spiked blonde faux hawk which he wore in 2002 during competitions.

A faux hawk, unlike a full blown Mohawk, has a center strip of hair that snakes down the center of their head and is sculpted into a stiff center spike with pomades, gels or waxes. In the faux hawk the either side of the head is cut close with about 1/4 to 1/2 inches of hair remaining. The sides extend up to the top of the head and merge into the center strip of hair that may extend up off the head by 2 to 4 inches. Depending on the natural texture of the hair, the center strip will be worn lightly spiked or densely curled.

Another version of the Faux Hawk was the messy hawk where the center hair was worn softer and tousled and less spiky. Nick Lachey was known for his version of a messy hawk which was also referred to as messy spikes.

Huh...

Something tells me I'll get my ass kicked just for thinking of doing it because I would in fact be kicking my own ass.

Seems it can be pulled off by trendy, pretty, and little Emo boys. But seein' as I am neither one... yeah.

I hate this part of being a guy. There really is no way to change my look at all. Sure I can buy new clothes, but Wal Mart is the only place in town unless I decide on finding Wezstern wear but the pants aren't too, well, fitting?

A new pair of shoes always makes me feel better but that would require driving to the Tall and Fat store in Reno and gas just costs so much.

Think I'll do some exfoliating with my evening drink after a good workout. That sounds nice.

Faux-hawk! *snirk*

So hair in the self-image versus projectd image arena. People do treat you different. (MsQ did an unintentional experiment a few weeks back. She had to clean up one of our record storage sites--nasty business--and wore jeans to work for about two weeks. When she could dress stylish again--wowsers!--she said it was amazing how many doors would get opened for her.) People who don't know me leer at me (being a guy I'm too stupid to be offended and kinda like it.) Others, usually "familiars" want to rub my head. I get "okays" and thumbs up and all kinds of positive "sign language".

If not for the constant breeze up there now I'm no different. On the inside. So when I had LONG hair, I looked maybe like a slacker and people didn't expect much. When I switched to Businesslike Proper, my banter at meetings was sometimes jarring. Now I'm a skinhead. Not that kind, but just looking at me how could you tell? (okay the eyes would give it away, but not if I was in character!!!)

So Joe, the hawk might give you a fresh perspective. It might also invite attention. Pleasant sometimes maybe not so pleasant others. I have a genuine FBI cap that MsQ got me that she refuses to let me wear in downtown Detroit. Like it was a bullet magnet or something If you feel the need to liberate some hair, go for it. (Eventually the novelty wears off.) But people's expectations of us sometimes change with the appearance we have, accurate or not. Being brown I'm sure you've had a few of those interactions.

Political categories
There are several different political categories of skinheads. However, many skinheads don't fit into any of these categories. The usefulness of these terms is to explain the dominant forces of skinhead political groupings. There are no reliable statistics documenting how many skinheads have belonged to each category.

Anti-racist
Anti-racist skinheads, sometimes known as SHARPs, are aggressively opposed to neo-Nazism and racism, although not always political in terms of other issues. The label SHARP is sometimes used to describe all anti-racist skinheads, even if they aren't members of a SHARP organization. Some anti-racist skinheads have been involved with political groups such as Anti-Fascist Action or Anti-Racist Action. White power and traditional skinheads (especially in the U.S.) sometimes refer to them as baldies.

Apolitical
Apolitical skinheads either oppose all politics in general, are politically moderate, or keep their personal political views out of the skinhead subculture. Skinheads on either extreme of the political spectrum sometimes refer to this type as a fencewalker.

Left wing
Left wing skinheads are anti-racist and anti-fascist, taking a militant pro-working class stance. This category includes redskins and anarchist skinheads. The most well-known organization in this category is Red and Anarchist Skinheads.

Right wing
Right wing skinheads are conservative and patriotic, but not necessarily extreme or fascist. This type of skinhead seems to be common in the United States.[28]

White Power
White power or Nazi skinheads are racist, extremely nationalist and highly political. Many Nazi skinheads have no connection to the original 1960s skinhead culture in terms of style or interests. SHARPs and traditional skinheads often refer to them as boneheads.

One out of 5 and yet they are what most people think of when "Skinhead" is mentioned.

Is it dorky that you forgot or that I remember Jonny? Seems it can be taken in either form so how's about we split it right down the middle.

See K, I knew what you're sayin'. Its just that the generalization of "Skinhead" was perpetuated by TV news shows like 20/20 and 48 Hours. I've met more correct Skinheads than incorrect ones. Lord knows when I did meet up with "them" I never seemed to have any problems. Never did understand why.

A friend shared this with me on Myspace. Enjoy.

Hey Jonny, don't worry about the hair thing -

I'm 22 and have a receeding hairline on ONE side of my head. A lot of guys in the service keep the ol high'n'tight, especially when they're younger, but it's just easier to shave the bitch. As long as you got strait teeth, no scars and are minus a unibrow, you're still prettier than me. Yeah, that's not sayin much, still...

D'you see previews for the new Rambo movie? I just saw em... ripping out throats and shooting people point blank with MawDeuce', sounds like a recipe for cinematic greatness.

Also, great dialogue:

"D'you bring any guns?"

"No"

"You ain't changin' nuthin"

Also, has anyone else noticed how ashamed Stallone seems of his physique? He spent all of the new Rocky movie covering it up, and when he finally HAS to show it, he's fucking ripped, at 60 years old! And there's not a single part during the Rambo trailer when he's shirtless. Can you imagine? Rambo keeping his shirt on the entire movie? It's rediculous! It's like being cut isn't enough for Stallone, he's embarassed that he's not totally shredded like he was back in the day. I tell ya, I'd kill to have his physique at 60 right now at 22, the ungreatfull bastard.

mornin' Imponderables.

Not having hair is convenient, both in the sense that showers take less time, and in the sense of having to worry about styling it in the morning. It's impossible for me to sleep on my hair funny, and when it does become possible, that just means that it's time to cut it again.

If a movie reviewer likes a movie, 9 times out of 10 I don't. They somehow managed to find people with tastes completely opposite to mine. The ones with the bad reviews are often the ones I like the most.

NVG - I think a mohawk would rock, though I (and probably a mountain of others) would prefer visual confirmation of said 'do. Not a silly emo-ish one, but footlong liberty spikes. F- those trendy pretty little emo boys (like Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3, see, the conversation is circular).

Mavs - congrats again on hubby getting the job. I know you are all very happy about it.

Hell no, those aren't the fun drugs. (in all seriousness, I would not use such things for body image. I think the only healthy image of a body is what you can attain by natural means, ie, diet and exercise)

Oh yeah, I forgot about the haircut.

The faux-hawk is (I think) also the one known as the Ranger-hawk, although not limited to the Army types. Cole Hauser's character has one in Tears Of The Sun. Also, it may sound racist, but I'm not sure it's possible for a black man to look emo. After all, Goth (and its mutant offspring) involve paleness of skin, which you, NVG, do not have.

Nico, that car looks just like the one I drove in high school - a 1976 Toyota Celica,
except mine was brown.

I need coffee. I am beat tired, though I slept like a log last night!

(HUG) RIMG, Husband is quite happy - and so am I.
EDIT: Ha!

You mean it's not just bleached topiary?

If not for the *urk* skidmarks, it really looks like it was placed there by crane.

Morning Coolerands.

No to artificial anything. Love who you are, not who you think people might want you to be.

Most reamarkable thing about the bald is the incessant heat loss. It's the best air conditioner in the world. Even the buzz cut had nothing on this. *shivers*

There is a lesson to be learned. It has something to do with parallel parking...

Hey all...morning. I shall hopefully be back on later today, but for now, I'm off to plant the courtyard on 3 hours of sleep...on the upside my beloved baby sis arrived in town with her new baby Audrey and I finally got to hold her and such!!!

As for the ponder...nope I wouldn't do it to fit an image, however, when I get the green light from insurance, I shall have my breasts surgically reduced..

Have fun MsG. I'm guessing there'll be lots of photos (of the family, not of the results of the surgery.)
