I was wondering if there were any other Browncoats in the Finger Lakes area of Western NY, specifically between Rochester and Syracuse?

Darn, no one ever answered this... let's bump it back to the front and see if there are any NY BC's that answer.

Thanks! I'm hopeful that I will find them soon. Perhaps they are all on vacation somewhere fun...

I'm in Roch, and last year at this time, a thread like this uncovered 6 of us.

I'm down in Waterloo. Yeah - I found another Browncoat! I've joined the WNY Browncoats group on Yahoo - but it doesn't seem very active.
I'm hoping to meet some local people and maybe have a Shindig in September sometime. I work every weekend until Labor Day so can't do it until then. I'll post here when I start some serious planning.

good luck with that madamruppy. i couldn't even get people together for a viewing of the BDM when it came out. i go to toronto for all my shindigs/browncoat fandom stuff. they're awesome up there.

Well I will try, if it is a small group we can just hang out here and watch the BDM and eat junk food.
I am ambitious though - I'm hosting a Can't STop The Serenity event next June in Geneva!!! Now that will be fun!

I would be happy to help.

And I would be happy to accept your help.
So far that would make two besides me as my hubby will be helping too.
I've already started my planning but I'm way ahead of the curve according to others on the CSTS site.
At some point we'll have to meet over coffee and I can attempt to scare you away with my clever clever plans.

Well, darlin', I'm originally from Holley, about twenty miles west of Rochester. I'm actually up visiting family at the moment. I wish I could help with the gathering of the Browncoats. Much luck and good fortune with the endeavor.

If you're on Myspace at all, go search Groups for 'WNY Browncoats'. Don't know how active that group is, but leastways it's there.

I'm on their Yahoo group - not very active though. It took almost 3 weeks to get approved for membership. MySpace hates me. AT least my computer - it won't work right for me so I generally avoid it. Sigh.
Thanks for thinking of me.

Not anymore, sorry. I grew up in the Rochester area, but I'm got a job in Texas. I'm only up that way around the end of the year.

Hey, I live in Rochester, just outside of Gates Chili. Let me know what's going on. Be nice to have a lil gathering close to home.

Okay folks. I'm willing to commit to a date for a Shindig at my place. So I'm looking at either September 29th or the following Saturday October 6th (I think that's right). I know that the one is the same weekend as the Browncoat Ball. If all of you are lucky enough to go, I will sit here and be jealous. If not it would give us something to do instead. let me know what you think???

Sigh, no way I'm going to manage a shindig in September. I'm actually ending up out of town every weekend. But October is open. I think I shall pick October 20th. So, if anyone is interested in getting together on the 20th for a BBQ and viewing let me know!

Any Browncoats specifically out of Geneseo? There is a game con there in February next year that I'll be attending. I'd love to meet up with some fellow Browncoats.

There's a whole acre of us in Syracuse! Some are a bit more rabid than others, mind.
My house is infested with two of them, and as soon as son's old enough I'll be twisting his impressionable little mind as well.

Has anyone here been to the gaming convention, Running GAGG out of Geneseo?

I have a suggestion for you guys. Yahoo groups are very easy to set up and you can get an email digest every day of the messages posted It seems a lot easier than My Space.
I spent 2 lovely, cold, snowy winters north of Syracuse courtesy of the US Army at Ft. Drum as a Army spouse. Now I'm an ex spouse now so I relocated home to NC. It was the winters of 1998 and 1999 I think.
Well, I was there for the big ice storm that devastated northern NY. What fun! No electricity for a week in the middle of winter and Fort Drum got it back first. The sight of the ice coating the individual blades of grass and the devastation to the trees and electricity poles will be with me forever.

We get that *every* year!
Well, OK.. maybe only to a lesser degree some years, but waaay upstate gets some doozies winter-wise.
We fled the frozen north about a year ago after 10-12 feet landed on our roof over a week.
Fulton got 3 feet in one day a few weekd ago and the roof of the DOT caved in so they couldn't get the plows out.
You know, the usual.

Hey everyone. I have finally set up my basic MySpace page for my Can't Stop the Serenity screening this summer. Feel free to take a look and let me know what you think if you have time. I am also happy to friend any one who wants to be my friend.
ETA: this probably works better if I acutally add the link

We would love to have you at our event. There is a group in your area, the Central NY Brown Coats. I'm certain that they would love to have you at any of their gatherings.

I'm in Syracuse and have only recently become a fan, but fell in a big way and am dragging as many people down with me as I can. My husband curses me daily for getting him hooked.

I'm sure that he will learn to live with the "horror" of the addiction.
I am sorry to say that I had to cancel my CSTS SCreening. There was a problem with Universal destroying lots of prints and I couldn't get one. However I will be going up to Toronto for their showing on Saturday June 21. I have one person going with me but more are welcome. My plan is to go and stay the night because they have a bit of a shindig afterwards.

Unfortunately, that is the one weekend that I am absolutely busy. Otherwise, I would definately be there. Have fun!

Yeah, we do indeed have a "bit of a shindig" Last year I think we had about 50 people at the shindig afterwards - we had one whole floor to ourselves!
I encourage any who can, to come up. We have some really good auction items- lots of stuff signed by the cast, large and small - including Sonny Rhodes and Necter Rose to bid on and of course, the BDM for a worthy cause.
Add Tshirts, a free gift bag as you come in, and a wonderful crowd of Browncoats, well, what more can you want? :D

Hey I'm in WNY. I live in a little town called Silver Springs (near Silver Lake), which is about an hour away from Buffalo and Rochester. I'd love to meet some fellow brown coats. Unfortunately I probably won't make it to the screening this saturday, but something in September or October, as was previously mentioned, would be cool.

All is not lost. FongLuh, Erik and I (Ironbandit) are working on having a CSTS screening in October, in Potsdam, unless a more accommodating venue intervenes. We are at http://SaveSerenity.org, a website and forum dedicated to any and all manner of guerrilla marketing in efforts to get sequel/prequel of the BDM made. Most recently, a new campaign features WANTED posters of the BDH's to be sent to Universal.
As for the screening, our Registration went in and was acknowledged by the fine folks at CSTS. Now, if we can gather enough BC's and such folk together, and a venue that understands the cause, we just might get this done. Right now, plans are to hold it on 11 Oct, the Sunday of Lincoln's B-Day holiday weekend, or on 30 Oct, the Friday before Halloween, and coinciding with Tim Minear's b-day on 29 Oct.
Might have been on the losing side, but still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I know this is a very old mostly dead thread, but I wanted to chime in, in case someone stumbled upon it in the future. The answer to the MADAMRUPPY's original post is yes! There is a very active group of Browncoats in Rochester. We are the Rochester Browncoats and I am the founder. You can find our active Facebook group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/RochesterBrowncoats/
We also have a Facebook page and can be followed on Twitter and Instagram @ROCBrowncoats.
Two years ago, we held a charity screening of Serenity, and we regularly have fan tables at local cons. We also have monthly meetups where we get together in the real world to talk nerd stuff and other things.
Check us out on social media and join our group. We'd love to have you.
