I know this might be a stupid question for some but I know of a few NC Browncoats on the boards and I was wondering how many of us there really are

Heya Goddess,
I do believe there are quite a few NC Browncoats. I live in Wilmington, NC. Here is the yahoo group link for fireflync. This group seems to be quite active although I am unable to participate. :(

Thanks MsG!I am in the western part of NC. I don't know of too many Browncoats in this part of the state, but I know that there are regular meetings and screenings in the Raleigh and Charlotte areas.

From Goldsboro, lived in Greensboro, and Charlotte call Clt home. Can ya guess what piratecat stands for. Now in Tucson AZ moved around alot since 9/11. My nep went to Ap state how about them beaten the rank top 5 wolverines. I get to watch northern az loose this week against em here in the low desert. They have my name at the bar for a seat to watch the Panthers. And I have watched ECU twice along with Ap State hilights. I am so spoiled.

Charlotte Browncoats have a Yahoo group too:
http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/Charlotte_Browncoats/
We have shindigs once or twice a month. Plus we get Browncoats from all over NC -- Lenoir, Morganton, Winston-Salem, Shelby (not to mention the folks who come up from Columbia & Greenville, SC). It's a pretty good mix from all over the state.
Heck, we're one of the few states that host TWO charity screenings each year. So, yeah, I'd say there are a fair number of NC Browncoats -- but might not be many on this board.
I hope I see some of you folks around at local events. I looooove meeting new Browncoats.

I'm really wishing I had a car here cause i most def would try to get to some shindigs... I've never been to any

Browncoat lurker in Chapel Hill, NC
And I too certainly wish there were shindigs nearer to me, as my poor cranky vehicle isn't always up to crawling to Raleigh, much less Charlotte...
Can't help but think there's got to be more Browncoats around Chapel Hill, so many interesting folks hereabout.

Arrrrrrr, your self! Southern Miss stole the game Saturday. I'm a UNC alum but live 20 miles east of Greenville out on the rim in Washington, NC, so my loyalties are divided.
No comment on UNC football this year. Especially since ECU beat UNC a few weekends ago. And the disaster this weekend.
BAck to the subject at hand. There's an active Browncoat group in Raleigh and I have participated in some of the major activities such as the Bedlam Bards concert and CSTS. I also keep up with things by using the Yahoo group.
My daughter just started at the local community college and has found a small group of Firefly fans but I don't think they come up to the level of being a Browncoat.

Cool to hear it might be worth a try to revive/create a middle branch Greensboro Browncoats anyone??
As for my conversion requests it seems pretty standard to others i have heard/read. Heard vaugely about Firefly when it first aired but at the time i was anticipating the end of buffy so i admit i didn't give it much thought. I watched the first episode which of course was the woefully inadequate 'Train Job'. After watching it i felt like i missed something and decided to get back to it.
Then i went back to college/work and forgot about it mostly i heard about the variety ad and shrugged a bit, stupid me.

Fast forward about 3 years i was working in a video store when the BDM came out, of course i didn't end up watching it until almost a year later once again a near miss with the Versey goodness.

Finally i watched it at the insistance of a customer who was probably a browncoat but i never learned if that was so, Mebane sound familiar to anyone?? What else can i say i watched the movie once, then with commentary because Joss is brilliant that way and i watched it again. Later on i caught the episodes so i was a fan. or maybe a flan if i was lucky.
Hard burn to 2008 i purchased Serenity as the Collector's Edition and the box set in a deal at Best Buy. idly browsing Itunes i found both "The Signal" and "Firefly Talk" That is when it truly hit. I work 3rd so i plugged them into my ipod and was carried away by versy goodness for a loooong time.
I finally decided to join the site and get more involved when i realized that CSTS featured not once but twice in my area seeing that there was a community there was no choice but to join
So for now biggests plans are to spend both days as a mini vacation in Raliegh at the CSTS screenings and from there who knows.
Sorry about the length folks didn't mean to carry on so.

[qoute] So, why do you write these strong female characters?
Because you're still asking me that question.

My BigBadMan and I have been holding the Alliance at bay just north of Winston-Salem for a couple years now and drive down to Charlotte regularly to hang with the 'Coats down there.
We've got a couple of great activities in the works this spring. One is a Browncoat Campout scheduled for March 28-30 at Morrow Mountain State Park, about an hour NE of Charlotte. For details, contact me - Lumenea@aol.com, or Tanya - tanyamorris2001@yahoo.com .
The other is a Firefly LARP planned by members of the Greenville SC Browncoats for the weekend of April 18-20 to take place at Paris Mountain State Park, SC. Details at www.bigdanglarp.com.

Nah, I graduated in 2000. Moved down to the beach, Wilmywood. I do come back and attend football games regularly tho.
Ahhhh... Hendrix. Good times. U can request (or u could) movies there. I remember seeing everything from "Natural Born Killers" to "The Matrix" there.

Wilmywood ? That's so tacky , so derivative , so uncreative , and worst of all , so 'Left Coast' !
Sounds like an ingredient in Absinthe , or something equally bitter...
Not to put on airs , but FILMINGTON is much more original , tasteful , and sophisticated...
P-D , did you know there's a little untrafficked Browncoat group for our area , with Yahoo Groups ? It would seem that we have enough folk hereabouts to organize some events...We should get our minds together and get the shiny started...

I'm a UNC-Chapel Hill grad (1982-American Studies...BTW GO HEELS! BEAT KANSAS tonight. It's the REAL NCAA Championship game IMHO) but I love Pirate football.
