I thought it was alright, I think Jennifer Garner is a great actress and I love her in Alias but I never understood how they could make a movie essentially viewable for all around a character who was supposed to be a prostitute and an assasin, I felt they sort of lost sight of who the character was suposed to be. Still an entertaining enough movie though but not one of my favourite comic book movies

I thought it was pretty good. The only problem was the powers that just sort of came or went depending on whether she was supposed to win or lose at the time.

I liked it, but I thought it could have been better. It looked and felt more like a really good tv movie instead of a really good cinema film. I thought the bad guys were cool though.

That probably explains it. I thought the effects were cool though, especially the forest fight scenes. Nciely done.

I also thought Daredevil was pretty good too, surpisingly so considering it contained an Affleck and a Ferrell, and not the funny Ferrell.

Just the addition of a very interesting 30 minute sub plot and lots of pesky dialogue (including some good stuff with Matt's father) that the studio wanted cut out, plus: in the director's cut DD never sleeps with Elektra, which makes more sense IMO.
But the theatrical cut moves much faster...

Just got Elektra : Director's Cut last night.

I liked the original better than the theatrical cut of Daredevil when it came out, and the director's cut is a small, but noticeable improvement upon the original release. The editing is smoother and tighter, and some added flashbacks are very welcome...and it looks positively STUNNING!!!
AND it comes with a comic book to connect Daredevil and Elektra, AND hours of extras on the second disk!
My only negative comment is, why didn't they put the cameo of Affleck back in; I thought it was GOOD!

If you is a DD fan like me, it be totally worth it.

Not a great movie, but lots of fun, and Terence Stamp is always cool to watch.

I bought that one, I'm a fan. The 'extended' cut is the same ole' one they showed on Sci-Fi, with the cheesy, bad, over-explaining narration. Some of the scenes are fascinating to see, but Lynche's theatrical version rules, and the recent re-release is visually excellent! Much better than the previous one- worth the upgrade IMO.

OH! And I just remembered, Christophe Beck did the music for Elektra- a Buffyfan reason to get it right there!

Milford, I don't know if you'll see this, but there was something quietly mezmerizing about Elektra to me. The imagery was lush, and while the climax wasn't an explosive doozy, it was a good end IMO.

What was the point anyway? I still haven't figure out what the hell was going on. So Elektra who was actually Daredevil's love interest comes back to life, and instead of going to find the man that she supposedly loves, decides that she'll become an assassin for hire. And I’m supposed to give a shit about this broad, because she changed her mind about killing her target? So the hell what? Throw her ass on Death Row with all the other assassin’s for hire. Now then there are the bad guys, whose point is...what? And some old blind bat is the good guy, whose point is...what? Then there is some little kid who happens to be the real heroine who’s going to save the world, only she’s not – she’s just some bratty kid. Stupid doesn’t even begin describing this movie.

You obviously have a concrete view of this most abstract film; I find it a visual marvel, and a nice character study enhanced by a first-rate star...no masterpiece by any stretch, but fun if ya take it that way, much like Fantastic Four.

I think you’ve been duped. There was nothing fun about Elektra. Its two hours of life I’ll never get back. And Fantastic Four isn’t even comparable to Elektra. If for no other reason, then that it had a discernable plot and characters worth caring about.

It was 99 minutes of cool fight scenes and beautiful photography at the very least. Yeah, FF was miles above it in the conventional narrative sense, I'm just sayin' Elektra was no 'Cat Woman', that was BORING, the ultimate cinematic action-flick sin. E had SOMETHING going for it, appreciated by some, and not by others is all.

The Professional was a movie about an assassin. He only killed “the competition” too, but that movie didn't tried to insult my intelligence by pawning him off as some kind of righteous good guy. So she decided not to kill a child. Wow! Let’s give her the Nobel Peace Prize. She only kills adults that the bad guys don’t like. You could say the same thing about every hitman for the Mafia when they knock off police officers who won’t go on the take or jurors who won’t acquit. In the end though, Elektra saves the life of a child who supposedly will save the world. The fate of good in the world rests on a decision of some assassin who decides not to murder a child? That’s a pretty bleak statement, but it’s one that has potential to work. It’s essentially the same theme used in the Professional, but more effectively. The problem is that in Elektra it just doesn’t work. There is far too much that is confused and poorly presented. It had the potential to be a great story, but the way it was told ruined any hope of that.

Some of the fight scenes were good. I never saw Cat Woman. I dodged that bullet, somehow.

Everything in your post was valid, from a certain point of view. But I'm a fan of the comic upon which DD and Elektra are based, so I'm willing to cut them way more slack than you are just to see them brought to life. Sort of like Firestarter...not a GREAT movie, but again, I'm a fan of the book, so....

But I've noticed a pattern with ya dude, it seems 'heroic' is synonymous with sacrifice for you...you liked The Gift better than Chosen for this very reason- a hero has to experience extreme loss, or death to BE a hero it seems...you must have really liked X-Men 3, heh heh!

Yes, Elektra had some really cool photography, but there was no point what-so-ever. I agree it was beautiful, but it was hard to watch as it didn't have a solid sequence of events.

Well, it was Matt that was head-over-heels, I don't think Elektra was. But she still liked him, there was a scene about that somewhere. That would make sense if she had to hide the fact she came back to life, but I don't think that was said anywhere in the movie.

I am a fan of the Tragic Hero, it is true. I admit that. (I think Joss Whedon is too.) Heroes should struggle for some right cause, and in some cases a Hero must redeem him or herself in order to be a hero. Maybe that’s something of an old-fashion Aristotelian view of Heroism, but I like it. However, I’m not wed to it. I could have seen Elektra as a hero, but the story just didn’t put the pieces together well enough.

And Yeah, I liked X-Men 3. All of the X-Men movies were really good.

oh chris, off topic but kinda related, I was looking at buying F4 today and there's an 'extended edition' with 20 minutes extra in the film, or for the same price I could get a 2 disc regular edition with extras and deleted scenes and stuff. do you know what the difference would be in the extended one? what would you go for? I have the extended edition (across the pond here it comes both ways on the same disk), and it has lots of cool stuff added to it, but there's one scene where Mr. Fantastic makes himself look like Wolverine for a second that should have been left out (IMO)- I guess it's just do you want a brisk pace to it or not- the regular version moves along pretty fast, but the extended version would be my choice overall.

You know, I liked the imagery too. There wasn't a lot going on in the film, and it looked good that way. There was a simplicity that wasn't sparse, like the forest battle scene for example. I liked it too.

It actually had a fairly original plot.
The main character (I forget her name) is fairly well developed.
It had the most adorable kitties in it

There was cause-and-effect in the movie
The science is realistic
