A while back, I was under the impression that 'Ripper' was a go, on BBC, and would start airing in early January. Now? I can't seem to find word one about it. Nothing on IMDB. A search on Whedonesque turns up a posting from August....What's the deal ?

Whilst I'm interested in this show I have to say that because it's been so long and appeared to be going nowhere at some points that I haven't really been following any kind of updates for it. I thought that I'd just wait for it to actually arrive and then deal with it.
The Beeb aren't always the quickest to get things going. Look at the wait for the Doctor Who movie and then another wait for the newer series to appear.

The last bit of info I could find said that it 'may' be given a greenlight depending on the script.

Personally I wouldn't hold out much hope.

Seriously though, I just now was made aware that such talk about the BBC show dates back to summer of 2001! Damn. And here I thought it was something thought up more recently, as in during the final season of Buffy. *sigh*

You're not actually very behind. This BBC stuff--at least, the latest of it--was a pretty big deal, in the it's-a-definite-go-if-Fox-will-let-us sort of way. I get the feeling that a combination of the writers' strike and the announcement of Dollhouse has gotten in the way of the project's progress. But there has been no official announcement saying the project won't happen or anything.

Oh yeah, the writers strike. Duh. I figured since it was being done by the BBC, that it wasn't affacted by what OUR writers do. That thought hadn't even occurred to me.

To be slightly more useful then, the writers strike doesn't affect 95% of writers over here as they aren't WGA members (Writers Guild of *America*) working on American projects.

Not knowing, but suspecting that to be the case, I figured the strike wasn't the issue. A program scheduled for airing on BBC and all, even if it's a spin off from an American show, should carry on, despite the strike.

And yet it appears to have hit a snag. I was so looking forward to seeing it soon, at least on BBC America.

not official but a friend of mine works in a bookshop in london and tony head came in just before christmas and she asked what was happening with it, I think he said joss was still in talks but that it seemed hopeful. I told her she should have asked if faith was going to be in it cos that was right after issue 9 of the comic where they teamed up
