Ni Howdy fellow Browncoats! In case anyone had not heard the Shiny folks over at the Universal HD channel have picked up the BDS for another full run starting in a little over a month.
The show was not originally scheduled to be picked up again after it's airing in 2007 but the influx of fans and traffic to the Universal HD Firefly Fans forum I've been told basically caused the Universal VPs to rethink that position. (My source for this information is the Universal_HD site Admin "A shiny Browncoat in his own right" who I now communicate with frequently since becoming a Moderator for those forums. No pay but the inside info is well worth it!!)
Anyway, Firefly will be re-aired in a weekly format like a normal series and will be shown in its proper order all in HD.
Even if you don't have HD or don't get the Universal HD channel you can join the boards for free and still show Universal (Makers of Serenity) that you want more of the 'Verse and that they should make Serenity 2.

Cordrone,
I don't know if this makes a difference or not....but my husband & I just changed our services to the Direct TV package with the Universal HD. We bought a new HD-TV this Christmas! :smiles:
Firefly never looked so good!
Hmmm....ya think I should write the folks a letter?
Oh- and we did not download the Firefly eps from XBOX Live. It didn't looks as pretty & from what I understand.....writers get 0 dollars from the downloaded episodes.

Best thing to do Spacegirl32 is to join the boards and post that info. The Admin there reports weekly to some Universal VP's and he brings our Browncoat desires and stories directly to those folks during his planning meetings with them.
This is the main reason I'm so very adamant about Browncoats join the site, posting, and such. The folks there can actually SEE us and have been responsive, on a smaller scale, to what we want. It is my notion that they will respond on a LARGER scale if there are more users there. As of 5 mins or so ago there are ONLY 1,736 registered users on the Universal boards and of those 1,736 users approx 1,500 are Browncoats (I'm user #176 and have been keeping count sorta from there). that's not enough for the Universal folks to say... "You know the fan base for this show/movie is big enough that I think it warrants us to invest in a sequel."
However, if there are 10,000 screaming Browncoats then that's a different story! I know that with all the fan sites out here in the black that numbers like that are easy to meet.
The impossible was done once before and I think it can be done again. So please join the 100% free Universal HD Firefly Fan Forums and show Universal that they really should be making a BigDamnSequel. you need not have HD to join the boards folks! http://boards.nbcuni.com/universalHD/index.php?showforum=4

If interest is still there and growing, why can't we go to season 2. Yes josh did finish the story with the movie. Can't we all forget about that as if it never existed. We all know the main reason for it was because it deserved to have an ending. But if it's possible to go to a new season I'm willing to treat it as a one off movie that has nothing to do with the show!!!

DH and I have become true fans of this show. We would love to see new seasons that possibly show what happened after the last season and if it's possible to just look past the movie for awhile.
This show deserves to be picked up and resurrected by someone.

The folks over at Universal HD seem to be responsive to our presence on the Uni-HD Forums. Certainly worth a little effort to get more of us over there I think.

I'd love to see more season myself but I think with all the actors pretty much attached to other projects: Terminator - Shara Connor (Summer Glau), Chuck (Adam Baldwin), Desperate House Wives (Nathan Fillion), and so on that a TV series isn't an option (at least at this point). However, it is very common for TV actors to have a clause in there contract that allows them to do movies (All TV actors really want to be in movies - it pays more and it's actually less work). This does not hold true for other TV shows though, especially if that show is on a rival network. Thus it is very reasonable to assume they could make another movie but a TV series is much less likely.
But I digress, the notion is that a big show of interest by us Browncoats in the show while ON Universals own boards sends a direct message to the VP's at Universal.
Peace,
- Cord

Good thinking, Spacegirl32. Also will they even get a cent from the HD airings? If any writers deserve our support 100% it's them. If they weren't I'd just not even watch them in HD.
@dappa Welcome to the boards. It's good to see enthusiasm like that from new recruits. Oh and it's Joss.. not Josh. Alot of folks make that mistake. I did at first too.

Don't forget Jewel Staite is on Stargate Atlantis now. She's doing great there. Her possible love interest on that show is so different from Simon it's hilarious. Oh and Morena Baccarin is in the Stargate SG1 DVD movie coming out in March I believe. Though shooting is done of course and I have no clue what she's doing now.
I'd be fine if we never see anything else on the big or small screen. I really would love it if it could continue but I'd rather have what we do and not risk the studios pressuring Joss into making the series without one of the actors or obtaining the rights and forcing Joss out if his views didn't match theirs. Then we'd be stuck with crap that ruins our beloved 'verse. And everyone else would be convinced bringing it back was a bad idea and we wouldn't see even a comic book again.

Seriously, though, I wasn't quite getting whether the whole link was just a gag, or a wishful thinking thingy, or how that works exactly. Are there really plans to bring out an HD DVD/BluRay version of firefly? Is that really the case? 'Twere mighty shiny if 'twere!

I just got into Firefly and watched every episode this week, finished last night. I am kind of sad that show is gone, but it made the movie make more sense to me. I say we need a second movie and a third. I am very happy that they are going to re-air these in HD. But will they release them on Blu-Ray, along with the movie? Nice to see that others feel the same way.

I'm assuming that it's going to be broadcast in 1080i, like last time.
Saved as .ts files, the last broadcast of the series was 46 gigs in size.
If it's 1080p it will probably around 100 gigs, give or take 20.
But I'm pretty sure Universal HD broadcasts 1080i standard. If anyone knows for sure, let me know.
